Our first time there and it was a very pleasant experience. Clean and spacious restaurant with a takeaway waiting section. Food was on point, very yummy, but portion could be slightly bigger for the price charged per dish. The service was excellent! Food was served in than 10mins after ordering. There was 1 waitress that proactively took our almost empty water bottle and swapped it for a full one! Before i even raised my hand. Only the parking could be very limiting.

First time dining here, authentic Chinese food. Amazing taste, clean environment and good service. Reasonable price to feed the family, will definitely go back again. The web site is up to date, the menu is available on the website.

November 2022 Have been back to China Kitchen, Papanui a few times since June, for lunch with family or to collect a takeaway. Latest was beef fillet and vegetables with rice. So yummy. Go try them for delicious, fresh Chinese food. 🥤🍚🍲🧃🍽 😀 10 June 2022. As always Stella and the China Kitchen team, were awesome. I drive from South/West Christchurch to them, every time I want to eat Chinese food. Well worth the drive. Ordered 4 dishes for 2 of us, so ended up with a takeaway of left overs. Superb beef fillet dish, wontons, garlic & chilli prawns and a lamb dish. So yummy. All that and fizzy drinks were very reasonable at $50 for each of us. Such a clean and tidy restaurant to eat at. They are in Papanui, close by the service station, near the Northlands Mall. If you haven't already, go check them out, for lunch or dinner. 👍😀

An excellent Chinese restaurant with a comprehensive menu and a pleasing wine list. I had the Yang Zhou Fried rice - (barbecue Pork with Prawns) which was absolutely delicious, and a glass of Astrolabe Charonnay. Suoerb, fast and friendly service. We knew it was a great choice when we walked in the door because the smell of the food was very nice indeed.Highly recommended.

Dumplings are always good. Very good selection of spicy / non-spicy dishes. BYO. Bottle Store nearby. 👍should have taken photos of our meal tonight. Excellent. Chicken and Spinach plus Pork and Chives fried dumplings to start then chilli beef & rice plus spicy chicken & rice for mains. $60. Excellent food quality. ⭐

I come here regularly and has never been disappointed. Good food and rather fast service if you come ealy enough so the kitchen is not too busy with the take aways. You get real chinese and asian food for good price.

The food is absolutely delicious!!! Very authentic and fresh. Full of flavour. Staff are all very friendly and welcoming. The only downside we found was that the dine in experience wasn't fantastic as the restaurant is so small. Its always busy because of how good the food is so its very very noisey. Hard to have chat with the people at your table because your having to talk louder and work harder to hear each other.

The sweet and sour pork very tasty although a few more vegetables wouldn't go amiss. The chicken and vegetables excellent. The staff pleasant and friendly but a little slow to register diners' presence. A customer after us quipped 'I thought you were never coming' as he had a longish wait despite the restaurant being near empty. The front door is left open to the busy and noisy road, not good. We have eaten there before and will probably do so again as the food is so good and among the best in Christchurch.

Update of Nov 25 2023: still a very good place to have a great variety of authentic chinese food. Love the wonton soup on a cold day. Update Nov. 10/2022: Have never been disappointed. Always good quality food, good service and reasonnable prices. Good place to have a large variety of chinese and asian food. For our first visit we just tried dumplings (very nice),, crispy prawns (too much crumb to my taste) and the sweet and sour pork. One thing to know is that the main dishes are not coming with rice. You have to order the rice on the side. Which then make the main dishes rather in the high prices. I will go back to try the duck dishes and also the soups (pork and prawn wonton soup). The decoration is quite simple and the place is quite tidy. Still a very good place for a tasty dinner. Update April 27/2022: This place has become our favourite chinese restaurant and we go there two or three times a month. All dishes are good and tasty. Never had any bad surprise. Update Septembre 09/2022: upgraded my rating to 5 stars. Service is even better and the food is still very nice and tasty. My favourite dish is the fresh tofu and veggies on rice or the Singapour stir fry.

Very disappointing. The "fried rice" was just boiled rice with veg and chicken mixed through. It lacked flavour, had no sauce or seasoning. To top if off it was barely warm.

One of the best Chinese places yet that I have found in Christchurch. I ordered pork and chive dumplings, fried rice, sweet and sour pork and old school wontons!! So goooood!!! Piping hot and just so full of flavour. Will be ordering from there again. Thankyou “China Kitchen”

A huge improvement on the Chinese we bought last weekend from another place. The sweet and sour pork was amazing. The satay chicken had a lovely flavour but i prefer it a bit stickier and my flatmate prefers it a bit nuttier. The chicken fried rice with cashew was nice but I would be hard pressed to call it fried... The wontons were pretty standard.

Have been here for many meals dine in and takeaway in the past and it was very good indeed. But last time i got takeaway it was not so good,its a pity because they were a favorite of mine. There are plenty of cheaper eatery's in this area now. The prices have gone up a lot and the menu on here has the old prices,use the menu on their web site. Was also over charged by $5 as well,didn't notice until i got home. Ordered three mains at ($22-$23 each) these were$19 last time and a dozen of there famous fried dumplings at ($17) $12 last time. The mains were as per normal,but the dumplings were rubbery and not fried enough ether,they were also lacking enough meat filling. I've had these many times before so i know what they should be like,not famous with me anymore !

For 2 dishes it cost $34 and it is honestly the WORST Chinese food I have ever had. The noodles in the chicken chow main were dry and lacked flavour (I had to add oyster sauce to give them flavour) and the chicken fried rice with cashews was dry also and the cashews with rice was an odd combination. For food of this price I would expect it to be brilliant but it was not.

This is the best Chinese restaurant around. Food is consistently good, ingredients fresh and seasonal. We usually get takeaway because it's always busy in the restaurant (which is a good thing).

The dumplings here are really good. The service and atmosphere are great and it's cheap! Would definitely go here again, highly recommended for anyone wanting good quality food.

Great food at very reasonable prices. Fast and friendly service. The dumplings are delicious and the garlic chili prawns on rice are the best! Even though this restaurant is out of the way for me as I live a long way from it, I eat here regularly as it is worth the journey.

This is a place where you pay only for delicious food. The atmosphere is no frills, the prices are low, and the food is perfect. We got the dumplings, prawns and spicy beef soup. Would definitely go back again!
