Nice food with amazing service. I can't say the food is best( pretty good no problem at all) but I was so pleased the way treat customer here. They are very helpful with the menu and also polite to ask to start to cleaning floor. Because we all finished our meal just talking and having a Chinese tea. Even owner was kind and care good customer service. I was so impressed and felt good. Love to visit again and will try dimsum at lunchtime too.. Recommended Chinese restaurant.

Just enjoyed a delicious dinner at Daphne’s. We ordered fried eggplant with pork stuffing, garlic and chilli green beans, and half crispy chicken with capsicum and spring onion — highly recommend all these dishes! Too much food for the two of us but we are excited to enjoy our leftovers tomorrow. Very friendly service and a warm and cosy atmosphere too.

Myself and my family love coming to Daphne's over the years. The food is always on point and full of flavour 😍 Worth our money spent and we never leave unsatisfied ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Yum cha menu has a great selection and the amazing staff work really hard to provide for customers. Such a lovely atmosphere 😊 They also have private rooms you can book for birthdays etc and B.Y.O. Only suggestion would be to put the heaters on prior to lunch setting as it gets a little cold specially if you taking the kids but the lovely tea does help keep you warm.

We're regulars for over 5-6 years now. They've always had great food and amazing services. 小笼包is the best!

I liked the food. Not all hit a home run but 3/4 the dishes did. The sweet and sour pork, mapo tofu, and beef fried hor fun were good. The one thing that I really didn't like was the wait. Of 4 tables filled, with no more than 4 pax each table, we had to wait half an hour for our dishes to be served. I really wonder how they cope with a restaurant full of customers.

We were there about a week ago. The portions to price ratio was more than fair. Typically, we order three dishes for two people but thought we'd order an extra dish because we were really hungry. Turned out, the extra dish was more than we could eat. I really enjoyed the beef brisket noodle soup as shown in the images. It was $14 and enough to feed two semi-hungry people. It was busy when we arrived for dinner so the service took a little longer than expected. The dishes and came out quick though.

My family and I had our dinner at this restaurant for the first time. The experience was fantastic! The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. Host Daphne made us feel really welcome. The prices for the food were reasonable, and our meals arrived promptly. Heard that they also do great yumcha. We're definitely looking forward to coming back again!

Service good. Food average 30/08/22 So have been back a few times since last review. Service still good. Improvements in good. BUT!! Frozen mixed veg and seaweed in hot and sour soup?? Please stick to tradition. On a side note. Anyone who hasn't tried durian should come for the durian puffs at lunch time

So far, one of the best taste Chinese restaurants that I have visited in New Zealand. The restaurant have many selections, and the favorite here are their dim sum. The food tastes good and the service staff are efficient and friendly.

Brilliant meal, great food, really good service and so friendly. Highly recommended

One of the best Chinese restaurant in Christchurch. Very well presented and food options are overwhelmed. The Peking duck in my favorite meals in this restaurant. The village taufo on hot plate also very very good.

The food is always amazing and the staff are incredible. They made sure a young group were drinking enough water and had a safe way home, really outstanding stuff

Daphne's has been our regular Chinese restaurant for quite some time. Always good food and excellent service especially from Daphne herself. My favourite dish would be the grilled fish, egg plant and the salt pepper prawns.

Amazing food every time! It’s nice to go on a Thursday night when it is not so busy but it’s a great restaurant and the manager is lovely. We have been coming for several years and it’s always great.

We haven’t been to Daphne’s since we moved back to chch and have been looking for a great Sichuan place to try. Daphne’s was great - we could have had it a bit spicier but the flavour was just as we like it! Will definitely be back.

My husband always go here. Great price and great food. I like their manager, she came twice to service us. I didn’t expect that in a Chinese restaurant.

Went here for yumcha the other day, service was quite slow and dishes took a long time to come. Most of the dishes are overpriced and the quality of the food is below average. The siu mai is artificial with no shrimp inside and char siew bao is not authentic. Will not be returning again

I've been meaning to leave a review for awhile now.. Daphne's is a great place to try something a little different than the ol' run of the mill Chinese food (Try the 'hot and spicy chicken salad' and the shredded pork pancakes.
YUM!!!

This Chinese restaurant used to be our go to for Yum Cha, but it's not as good as it used to be, I think they increased the use of MSG as our mouths got quite dry afterwards the last few times we had Yum Cha here. Their dinner meals are still decent though. The lady owner whom I assume is Daphne is very friendly.

Daphnes is the Chinese restaurant I always imagined. It extremely great value and busy atmosphere catered to everyone looking for a cheap, mostly healthy and great service. Considering how busy it is there the service is very good, always helpful and caters to my allergies. I've been there twice and had 1 takeaway which I ordered one of my favourites go to meals in CHCH, the delicious Chicken in a hot pot. The meat is always tender the veggies are always fresh, the presentation is average but is always served steaming hot. Daphnes is an ideal place for large gets to gathers for great Chinese food.

We planned for dinner and thought of giving this place a try since it was close to our home. Being a South Indian by origin I had very little exposure to authentic Chinese cuisine. However I would go by my instincts and rate the food by the taste. The Chilli beef was the best, spicy pork fillets was classified spicy and the waitress had a disclaimer but I would reckon most Indian foods are equally spicy so we were good. The hotpot chicken and chicken with barbecue sauce were also good. Ordered a medium bowl of rice I felt it was under cooked. The food was served quick and we paid 90 dollars for all of this. Finally I ordered Chinese ice tea which I thought was some authentic Chinese tea but got a canned iced tea which was not that good. Overall it's a good place for a nice meal.

Value for money. I love their ma pa tofu must try dish. Service is not so good but the food is top notch and also the lady boss she is very courteous and generous. Compared to joyful i would prefer this restaurant.

Good food, decent portions, good ambience, and decent portion sizes. Strongly recommend their tofu sizzler. The behaviour of the waiting staff is excellent. They also have dim sum/yum cha option, which is also good.

Friendly lady boss that remembers us, because we are repetitive customers ;) Food are good enough, big portion, decent price, fast serving especially dimsum/yumcha during brunch time. One time I had a bad but funny experience with the service from one of the waitresses last year, I'd take that as she wasn't well experienced yet so I won't blame her. I requested that waitress to help storing a birthday cake for my bf, and bring it out with lighted candles after our meal and I told her it was a surprise. However she still managed to bring out the desserts plates and a cake knife before the cake was even out, and on top of that she lighted the candles infront of us on the table. LOL.. Well clearly it didn't turn out as a surprise anymore, we all had a good laugh about it and the waitress didn't even have any clues why we laughed. haha.. Oh well despite what has happened, my bf~ which is my hubby now are still their repetitive customers. ;)

Its ok...food nothing to rave over...confusing entrances & neither that inviting...the main entrance had tanks of Crayfish but tanks didn't look that clean...seating quite close together..waitress had no people skills or was not very polite, she delivered the green tea & water to a table of 10 but only 1 teapot & 1 water jug so we had to ask for more, jugs not refilled at all during our lunch...went up to the bar & ordered a soft drink, the same waitress served me as she rubbed her face & smoothed her hair & then proceed to open a can of drink & handled my straw as I was not even offered a glass, I asked for a new drink due to the thought of some cross contamination on my straw...place a bit untidy especially behind bar area it looked unorganised & dirty...I also noticed that the Maitre D (if thats what she was) paid more attention to her asian customers of which there was a lot, than to the Europeans...over all experience the rating is deserved

Me and my family went there today and had yum cha. the food is ok but seriously what the **** the boss add $20 more on my bill. They are really dishonest, they shouldn't make money like that way!
Went here with a group of 15 or so. We had booked earlier but when we arrived the staff were very disorganised and confused and not ready for us. We waited a while and were finally seated around a table in a very cramped corner. We ordered a lot of dishes to share and they were all absolutely delicious which was a redeeming factor. It was fun to try new things like black fungus and tripe!! The sweet and sour fish and beef stir frys were particularly good!
Victoria
I agree with the reviews on here, it was strangely busy for an overpriced, bland restaurant. Most of the dishes at our table were ok- my tofu dish was terrible (bland, cool and watery). The only stand out dish on our table was the honey chicken, which was really great and everyone enjoyed. We had a table of 8 and not everyone ordered (the portion sizes were at least quite large) and it came to $23 per head. I wouldn't choose to go there again; for the price there are plenty of better restaurants in the area.

MMMMM om nom nom, all 5 of my senses are satisfied! the colourful way the perfectly cooked duck was presented, the way you could hear a scrumptious crack as you hold it and feel it's tender moist meat. It's dream inducing aroma before it comes in contact with your mouth, tasting of euphoria. A+

The food is tasty and the service is excellent, so everything is comfortable. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Loved the Peking duck and we often have the whole fish with pickled vegetables which is just wonderful. It is so nice to be greeted personally by Daphne and generally the service is good throughout the evening. Parking is good out back and they seem to be open when we want to eat. I like that they are so accommodating about special requests, we wanted a whole baked fish in a slightly different style to that on the menu and they did just that, and it was delicious.

If shark fin soup was not on the menu at Daphne's I would be able to return and enjoy another great meal. However, I was horrified to find this fantastic restaurant supports the inhumane method of slicing off a shark's fin. The fish is still living when this happens. When it is thrown back into the sea it is still alive. It will either drown , bleed to death or get eaten alive. 100 million sharks die this way every year. They may just starve to death but however their miserable deaths occur their lives will be worth a $100 bowl of soup.
No reputable restaurant could possibly support an unsustainable and cruel industry like this. We will return to Dapne's when shark fin soup is taken off the menu.

The staff are very friendly and obliging and the setting is plush. Unfortunately the food is below par. I found it quite tasteless and bland. Also, the prices are quite high. You do pay a premium for dining here. I have tried Daphne's out a few times due to the location (I live in Avonhead) but I don't think I'll be going back soon (I'm always willing to give a restaurant another chance!).

Food was not up to the standard and the one price in the menu card and charged more for the food When I asked the staff they said price has increased and ask me to pay higher price .Very disappointed and hope not to go and eat from their.

What can I say but that this often busy bus-tour patronised restaurant has completely disappointed me more than once? For the price I would wish for something approaching the Emperor level cuisine I have greatly enjoyed elsewhere; or at the very least that it should at least approximate such heights. But none of these dishes are to be found at Daphne's, nor any of the finesse required to approach their ilk. Instead, Daphne's is the same o same o Chinese available at several other places nearby, but worse and significantly more expensive. I have only found overly oily, unrefined and imbalanced food with cheap vegetables entirely unworthy of the price asked. I shall not return.

This is probably the best Chinese currently open in Christchurch, and yes I have been to most of them!

I had the Peking duck, which I have had in Beijing, and it compared well!

The fried dumplings were also delicious, as was the turnip cake. I had been going off Sui Mai and wasn't going to order it as the last few places I have been they were not exciting... here I really enjoyed them again. Congee excellent. The only dish to disappoint were the combination fried noodles, they were only average.

I will be coming again (and again)

What an amazing place. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The meals are superb. Thank you very much for catering for 80 guests in one block booking and putting on a wonderful banquet. Thanks also for catering for my food allergies and being very understanding. Was in Christchurch for 7 nights and eat here 4 as it was so wonderful.
