Review Castle Rock Cafe - Christchurch

Amazing food at a fair price. The meals were not small and definitely filled you up. I got the fried chicken and sweet chilli waffles, nothing to complain about at all, they really hit the spot 👌. Other pictured meals are the Angus beef burger (with added bacon), the Castle Rock salad, and the big breakfast. Very tasty meals, 5 stars for sure.

We had breakfast there yesterday, I had a large hot chocolate, very well prepared and tasty, we all had the $10 weekend specials, there were 3 on offer, I had sausages, eggs, and chips, the girls enjoyed the other two $10 specials, the menu was very good, eggs bene, big breakfast, etc, we will definitely be back, yum.

The big breakfast is huge! So cheap too and great quality.

We stopped in for breakfast. Ended up with the Big Breakfast, well worth the $10. We left with full tummys. Service was quick and polite. Cafe was clean. Would happily go back there again. Good range of food on the menu as well as the Big Breakfast.

I came here once two years ago, and it was dark without much food. I saw the ad in FB and just had a visit today. It is much over my expectations! I had waffle chicken and absolutely love it! Cabinet has great variety of food, and my friend had a panini she said it’s nice too! The free fruit tea is defiantly a bonus! Highly recommended.

This cafe is amazing place in Christchurch. Very healthy and delicious foods and nice brewed coffee ever in Christchurch! Also there are very friendly staffs working in the cafe. I will definitely come back soon to have a cup of coffee and foods!

Had a great breakfast there a week ago - excellent menu, both of us were really happy with our respective choices (big breakfast, and omelette), no canned music (which so frequently makes quiet conversation impossible), coffee was great, staff extremely friendly and competent, we look forward to making regular visits!

This place is a must try! Awesome staff, amazing, tasty and well presented food. The coffee is on point every time and hands down the best Salmon Eggs Benedict I have ever tasted! This place truly is 'well worth finding' !! :)

Fairly overhyped? Staff didn't seem on their game/very cheerful today. A couple of items on the menu weren't available (seasonal produce) which leads me to suggest they may need to take it off the menu. I ordered the eggs bene with bacon, gluten free. If they make their hollandaise in house then kudos to them, it was perfect. However, the eggs were horrendously over poached, which they knew about and gave us an extra egg - which was also over poached. The hash balls are definitely a must try if you do visit there, I could totally eat a huge bowl of them. I would like to give these guys another go - the breakfast bowl sounded great.

The staff were lovely and friendly with really good service. The portions were big! Great value for money. I wish the food cabinet had written what each food item was but the staff was more than willing to tell me. The cabinet dessert looked yummy. The potato rosti hash brown were different and tasty

Must be one of Christchurch's best-kept cafe secrets. A little off the beaten track in an industrial area of Heathcote Valley, but well worth a visit. The service was fantastic. As soon as we arrived a friendly waitress brought us menus and took coffee orders. The coffee was excellent - decent strength and smooth taste. The food was brilliant as well and delivered very quickly. I had the apple cinnamon oat pancakes with berry compote, Greek yogurt and maple syrup. They tasted great and it was a pretty hearty breakfast (I almost struggled to finish the last bite). My breakfast companions' Eggs Benedict also got two thumbs up. I also appreciated the quiet environment (the background music was kept to a low volume).

Looking for a child-friendly lunch spot near the Gondola, Castle Rock popped up on our radar. Tucked away on a back road in an industrial area, it really is a hidden gem. It definitely lives up to the child-friendly rep - upon entry we were offered our choice of three different types of high chair!
The food here is hearty, comfort food style meals but provided plenty of choice for both the vegetarian and lactose-intolerant members of our group. Coffees and shakes were generous serves and well-received. Service was quick and friendly, although the number of customers flying through meant that we were not revisited after our meals were brought to the table.
I have two little nit-picks with the place. First of all, the interior of the cafe is packed with tables leaving very little room to move around. Leaving strollers in the car if you can would be a wise choice. Secondly, despite having lots of both indoor and outdoor toys, the doors are easy for toddlers to maneuver and the outdoor area is not fenced, making it harder for parents of toddlers to relax completely. While we'd definitely return, the cafe is perhaps best for those families with non-mobile infants and those with older children.

Oh my goodness, the food is to die for!

The atmosphere is great and the setting is perfect. They've got a beautiful little garden hidden away too.

They've been nominated for best cafe in NZ this year and I can see why. I'll be back, over and over.

What a place.

We went to the Castle Rock Cafe for brunch today. We go out for lunch every day and expected this to be another wolf in sheeps clothing. What we got was friendly, professional service where the customer is king. We got the sirloin steak and hubby had a filled bap. I was asked what kind of cheese I wanted, I chose blue and was fronted with a very pretty plate that was loaded with flavour and freshness. The bap was generously filled with fresh ingredients and was good value as was the Philly cheese sirloin. The coffees were just right, well made and the right temperature.....too many establishments are serving lukewarm coffees that quite frankly are no reason to expect repeat business. This cafe is deservedly busy and is now our new local. Highly recommended and deserves it's accolades.

We come to Castle Rock every Wednesday. I look forward to our visit days before. This is my happy place. This is the best cafe in Christchurch. Why? Great prices, great coffee (Supreme), best of all, amazing service that's consistent. This place is a must.

Excellent service, friendly staff and great coffee. Very impressed. I am gluten free and the staff bend over backwards to help, and vary the menu to accommodate. Must go back more often!!!! Would definitely recommend

We have never had a disappointing visit here!! It is by far the best cafe in Christchurch!! Awesome service, amazing food and really good coffee. Child and pooch friendly too :) Would definitely recommend this cafe to anyone, especially for breakfast (they have the best mushrooms!!) or if you're wanting a new 'local'. I am a vegetarian and they cater any meal I want to suit my needs. It also has a cute outdoor area, good indoor/outdoor flow and a cool vibe. Love, love, love Castle Rock :)

This is the best cafe in Christchurch and you know it before you even walk in. On the door they say no bikers.

Absolutely awesome - we revisited one of our favourite local cafes only a few days after the earthquake. There they were open and serving fantastic coffee, fresh food and lots of love up to everyone who walks in the door. The weekend breakfast menu is good quality cafe food - eggs and trimmings all round (the mushrooms were fab), fresh breads, pancakes for the kids - just what the doctor ordered. This place is an oasis, treat yourself.

The atmosphere is good, staff friendly, however, I consider they have a very poor selection of gluten free foods. And I was told the cous cous salad is gluten free, which it isn't unless it is special GF cous cous. Usually there is only 1 GF option - always a variation of a roast vegie salad.

Amazing food, wonderful staff, in a stylish environment. I love eating here.

I've been to this cafe now at least four times and each time have been delighted with the food, the excellent service and the child-friendly atmosphere. Toys for the children, colouring in pictures and pencils and the food is well priced.
A hidden gem!

This place is fantastic, staff who love what they do and have thought of everything. A great wee spot to enjoy breakfast or lunch away from the hustle and crazy prices on the high street. I say no more- check it out!! they even have sunglasses to borrow on sunny days
