Staff went out of their way to accommodate our dietary requirements - thanks to the chef for making us yummy grilled chicken sliders!

Awesome service from the staff (one of the front staff remember me when I came back two days later). Loved their french toast. Will come back to try their dinner next time

Delicious food and very good coffee! Very impressed by the customer service as well. Special mention to Martiza. Thank you very much. I had the avocado on rye toast and it was very tasty. Thank you chef.

Lovely atmosphere, we dined early so not busy. Waitress was excellent, professional and unobtrusive. My main was simply divine. Lamb with delicious greens. Would recommend. Dessert was an unusual deconstructed cheesecake, nonetheless delicious. I recommend Straits Cafe without hesitation. My second time dining here. :-)

Breakfast is fairly standard hotel buffet fare and met expectations. Barista coffee was horrendous. Have your breakfast and get coffee over the road.

When there tonight 12th March big mistake, apart from being over priced food it rated as probably one of the worst ever. <br/>Husband ordered rib eye steak, totally dry and over cooked he was hungry so he eat it. I ordered free range grain feed chicken Breast with cauliflower. Was not what I got.<br/>I got a piece of wing and it was just a piece of dry up of bone. Then there was 3 pieces of dry white stuff the size of a .20 piece. You know those dry dog biscuits you get it could have passed as one. Then there was grated up thigh bits mixed with cous cous, not sure what happened to the cauliflower. The side was French fries which were chips soaked in oil and again left in the oil for too long. And a serve of carrots with hazel nuts. The carrots were over cooked and were as black as the ace of spades. I was hungry but was not prepared to abuse my body in that way. It cost us $102.50 for this meal and when I ask the manager if this was chicken breast I didn't really get an answer. And when it was obvious I wasn't eating it he just avoided us. We left and the bar man came out and said have you finished and I said I haven't even started. Told him what we didn't like, all of it and that it was over priced burnt food, he said sorry but while nice it was not his job the manager of the restaurant should have asked the question he was the one who served us. Can't complain about the service there was none. First day in Christchurch, hope this is not the standard at other venues

We had the opportunity to have breakfast here when we stayed at the hotel.<br/>The buffet spread was good and the coffee was quite good with options to choose from.<br/>The interiors are tastefully done and the restaurant is sunlit in the morning giving it warmth and a welcoming feel.<br/>The service was good and the staff was courteous.

We are Christchurch locals who wandered into this cafe one evening for coffee, and were very impressed with the lovely, warm atmosphere by the fire, the professional, friendly staff, the quality of the food and coffee and to top it off, great value for money!  We will recommend this cafe to others, and definitely be back!

I had the opportunity to try their morning buffet. The food was pretty good... So was the overall ambience of the cafe. I'm not able to recommend any specific dishes through.

Decided to forgo going out in the cold to fancier restaurants and settled for the hotel's cafe and I must say that we were pretty impressed with the quality of food presented. The cafe was small but cozy and service was good. We had the slow roasted carrots with macademias, mash potato with redwine gravy and nasi goreng with satay and rice crackers - it was one of the best asian dish we had in Christchurch!

As the hotel restaurant, Straits is very appropriate for the Rendezvous. It definitely fits in with the unenriched styling of the hotel.<br/><br/>Fortunately, Monday evening at Straits was quiet. Even though it isn't a large venue, the abundance of hard surfaces amplifies the background noise, so a full house does become a much noisier affair.<br/><br/>The venison dish that I had tonight was an accurate rendition of the menu description, and was cooked well. Despite being an enjoyable meal though, it just wasn't exciting and lacked any "wow factor."<br/><br/>If you're after a convenient meal, then Straits is a good choice. But with the Christchurch rebuild bringing more competition back into the CBD, there are a growing number of options available that are providing a more memorable eating experience.

Good. This was the only place I could find open near the Quest where I was staying in central Christchurch, with the earthquake repairs on going it can be hard with limited choice. I was pretty happy with the meal here, had a beer, a glass of Waipara Pinot Noir, and the Canterbury Lamb Ragout for main. To finish off I had the soft centred chocolate cookies with espresso ice cream for dessert and it was very tasty.<br/><br/>The service was efficient if not overly friendly.

Very disappointing. Lousy ambience, very small and expensive portions and poorly trained waitstaff. The waiter did not allow tasting of wine, just plonked it in the glasses and re-sealed the wine bottle. It was red wine and it needed to breathe. <br/>
