This is a great restaurant… we had: beef, lamb and venison… all excellent. The wine was excellent and good value. And the Philippine waitress was really friendly and helpful.

Hotel restaurants can be a mixed bag, but Gumption was great - very glad we checked it out during our stay. Service was good, food was delicious, and prices were reasonable.
The breakfast buffet was also great.
The only downside was some mosquitos hanging about.

For starters we had the bread board and tomato bisque, everything was very tasty with amazing bread.
The steak was cooked perfectly and was very tender. A range of sauces and sides are available with the steak. You can choose 1 sauce and 2 sides.
The mac n cheese side was delicious and I highly recommend!

My experience with this restaurant was as part of a group tour package. It was faultless! The food options, presentation, and service were wonderful for both breakfasts and dinners (lunches were not included, but if they were, I'm sure I would be even happier 😁)

This place is underrated. We went there in the afternoon for high tea, the girl served us ( Moannoa?) was really nice and attentive. Atmosphere was cosy. High quality of food. Scones were baked to perfection, they really paid attention to the details for the sweets, and you can tell the chef who made this put their thoughts into designing the menu. Would like to go back to try their dinner.

One of the best kept secrets of the new Christchurch dining scene, this restaurant opened in March as part of the ex-Millennium Hotel now dubbed the Distinction Hotel. Beautiful decor with a comfortable atmosphere, the service was spectacular! But most importantly the food was absolutely breathtaking. Generous portion sizes, fresh ingredients, mouthwatering presentation and skillful seasoning and balance of flavours. This is my new favourite restuarant. Will be back for sure.

Asked for a rare steak and it was solidly blue (cold in the middle...). Too hungry to care or raise it with the restaurant. Otherwise everything was good. Service was amazing.

The Snakebite
I really liked the food and service on a recent Saturday evening visit to Gumption. Both entrees and mains were great and I liked the ability to choose two sides + a sauce to match your main dish. Service was excellent and wine refills were constant without having to ask. Spacious modern restaurant. Wine list by the glass had some good options. Excellent overall.

The breakfast buffet was very good and the staff friendly and helpful. The background muzak was comically terrible - popular hits sung in the most lifeless way possible. I rarely notice music, but this was something special.
