Review One Good Horse Parklands - Christchurch

The horse racing themed restaurant was a hit with our crowd. The kids play area was the definite winner...inside and the parents could easily keep an eye on the kids from the position of some of the dining tables. Very helpful attentive staff.

Food was awesome, vegetarian options for me and partner enjoyed the shanks alot, everything was gobbled up, loved that they did a kids platter with fruit and veg and not just fried options for kids. The drawcard was the indoor playground alongside the restaurant for us to come here and did not disappoint our young daughter at all, great playground. We will definitely come again.

This place was a great place to visit for families and large groups .Has a large play area inside. We were a large group so had a little wait for our meals. They arrived soon after I went and asked if we could have the children's meals brought out. I had Seafood Chowder. It was delicious. My son couldn't even finish his meal of Pork Ribs. The only thing I would like to mention. It would of been nice to be offered more drinks while having our meal.

Has a really good play area for children aged 2 and up. With an easy climb up to the slide. They also have a TV in there playing movies to keep them entertained when they need a break from playing. Really handy if you are able to get a table close by so the kids can come and go as they need to. The food is really good also. They also have a good children's menu with a variety of things to choose. Really great value for money.

It was quite busy so service was a bit slow but we chatted away the time and enjoyed the meals. Six adults and three young ones. Now I love my Sticky Date puddings. This one was the biggest AND the BEST i have had. Price good too.

Too much bacon in fettuccine, also very hard. Nice waitress, seemed new. But she was caring and consientious-Kaitlin. It would be good if she Introduced herself. Yummy garlic bread and delicious seafood chowder. My young kids loved the playground..ensure u book a booth and near to. My dad didn't specify seating in booking n my3 and 5yo kids were sprinting past main thoroughfare n son fell off his chair 2x. O my. But we def heading back there one week soon!

Dined here for the first time last night for my daughters birthday. Walked in as a group of 7 not realizing how busy it was. We were happy to wait in the bar for a drink before dinner as that's what we were going to do anyway. Our table was ready within the time we were told. Meals came out fast & were amazing. We will definitely be coming back again. Flawless service. And a great family atmosphere.

Good pub food in the One Good Horse. Took a while to get used to the old leather sadle smell. Pizza was tasty with a thin crust. One of the few places with a playground for children to play in.

Absolutely delicious food... chill relaxing and very happy helpful staff. Even a kids playground. Everyone in the kitchen work so well together its truly like magic watching them.. 10 out of 10 team.. I will be back and will be telling everyone I know to go dine in to..😊😊 Sapphire..

Food, drinks and service were excellent! On Sundays children under 14 eat for free with a paying adult, so our sons kids meal burger, chips, drink and icecream sundae were free. Great restuarant with awesome atmosphere and lovely staff.

Six of us dined. We had a variety of meals from burgers to pizzas to ribs. To be honest they were all 'ok' but not enough to rave about. The problem was the noise as there were many kids in the restaurant. I have nothing against kids but we wouldn't go back here for a meal because of the noise

Every time we travel to christchurch we always make a stop at one good horse! Such good food and the kids love the play ground, everything is great there highly recommend especially if you have kiddos.

Always a popular spot in Parklands, very family friendly with their big kid's play area and kid's menu. Hats off to the kitchen staff who pump out a serious number of meals every night! The food is your pub grub style fare, with large portion sizes and yummy meals. Burgers and steaks are good here too.

Went there and played XGolf they have 5 screens and seemed to work great, a good selection of courses from around the world to pick from

Went here once and that was the first and last time. My niece ordered a pasta however she didn't order a strand of hair with it. Told the waitress, she had taken the pasta back to the kitchen only to hear the head chef say, 'a hair? I'm not fucken cooking another one'. The girl looked over and asked him what she should say, he looks over I'm glaring at him and he just mutters and cooks another one. The way the head chef speaks to his staff is absolutely disgusting. I work in hospitality in a kitchen too and not once has our boss spoken to us in such a manner. It can be stressful in the kitchen but everything runs smoothly when ya keep your cool and everyone works together. After seeing the way he speaks to his staff and OPENLY bitches and moans that everyone can hear him? Yeah nah I'm good I won't be dining there again or he'll catch these hands. He is a downright arrogant prick and I hope the waitress who he kept verbally abusing in front of customers left.

It’s an ok restaurant, but what I found very strange was because we didn’t book we had to wait in the bar for a table for about 30 min, although the place was almost empty. Very strange. Had the worst fatty, greasy chicken burger didn’t attempt to eat it only the bread roll.

Really terrible experience at OGH tonight.
We have been going to OGH for years for our family birthdays and have always booked a booth, it’s never been a problem. Earlier this week I did the same - booth booked, no problem. When we arrived tonight I was told that they didn’t take bookings for the booths and that none were available. I looked over and saw they were all free, and asked if we could be seated there, and was told they were all taken - by groups who hadn’t arrived yet. Utterly confused and hugely disappointed we left. Kids crying their eyes out in the car, so I went back in and told the manager (who said he was also the owner) that the kids were both crying in the car and our birthday celebration was being ruined - could we please have the booth that we booked and was clearly available. He was completely unmoved and refused to let us have one of the booths (which were still all free). Simply the the worst customer experience I’ve ever had anywhere, family birthday ruined because of an owner who has no idea how to treat customers. Needless to say we’ll never go back and would never recommend to anyone.

As far as the food goes, there wasn’t very many options. But as for dessert, now THAT was amazing. Highly recommend the Snickers Cheesecake, it was to DIE for. 😍

Fabulous play area for the kids... but unfortunately that’s where it stops. I ordered a pulled pork burger and the pork was so wet and soggy that it soaked right through the brioche bun it was served in, to the point that I couldn’t even pick it up anymore about halfway though... it was just a sloppy mess. My husband ordered fish and chips, which were also really average. Coleslaw was bland and blah. A squeeze of lemon juice and some seasoning wouldn’t go astray!!!

It’s such a shame, this place could be so wonderful if there was a menu overhaul with simple, delicious, well cooked & presented food.

Went in for a Saturday lunch, got there before everybody else, so we had great service - love the atmosphere there, My foodie family were impressed with their lunches and although tasty, my wedges were just too thick. But well worth a second visit next time they are up.

We just drove by and saw this nice kinda an antique place hid behind other building.s. At first we were not sure whether to go or not. So we both decided to go in, but actually the atmosphere was not that bad. The cocktail prawn was delicious followed with Venison was devine. We both were amazed how the foods were so good that we had to dine in there again😄👍👏

I like my salmon main. The skin was crispy. The salsa was sharp enough to balance the sweetness of the mashed kumara.
But my partner's chicken breast is a mess.
The slaw was overwhelmed by the onions with barely any dressing. While the chicken was simply too dry. Nobody wants their chicken to be undercooked but the chef went a bit too far this time. It was dreadful to finish such two big pieces of dry chicken breast with that onion salad, oops, I mean the slaw.
Honestly I would make a complaint in the face if it was not my grandpa-in-law's birthday.

Oh my goodness!! You want to be wowed then you need to come here!! First time tonight with our 2 boys! We were greeted and seated straight away! SERVICE WAS EXCEPTIONAL!!! ( we were served by Agnus) Kids were served soooo fast!! That never happens!! .... And then our meals came ... Well way to blow our minds!! My partner gt the slow roasted pork hock and it just literally fell off the bone it was that tender!! I got the pork ribs and wow I was expecting more bone then meat but man was I wrong!! The meat was so tender aswell, the sauce was to die for and even the slaw had to be eaten!! I can not rave about this place enough!! The food, the service, the atmosphere EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING!! If I could rate this higher then 5 I would!! Will be here regularly!!!

Arrived on Sunday night when it wasn't very busy. Asked the lady who greeted us if we could just sit by the bar for a minute but have a look at the menu while we got a drink...no menu came so then we asked to go sit at a table..sat where wanted so we chose outside as it was a lovely evening. Great for the children as they could play outside happily without disturbing other patrons.
My husband ordered a second drink which never arrived so went up to the bar himself to order it and the waiter replied shit I forgot about that.
Waiter then took our orders. He was very polite and told us the specials.
I asked what the pasta was like and he replied very nice and recommended it.
So on his advice I thought I would try the pasta, which my friend did as well.
Meals arrived quite quickly although my husbands was a good few minutes after all the others....weird as it was pizza the same as one others at the table) . Then my friend and I had to ask about three seperate times for pepper ( in hind sight this was not needed)
Then waiter asked would anyone else like pepper would the children like some on their meals?????? Why????
Began eating the pasta and was instantly blown away by the heat in the pasta, it was a big overload of chilli. Was so hot it burnt my friends and my mouth out. The waiter came over politely and checked how the meals were and when I said the meal was incredibly spiced and is it normally like this as he hadn't mentioned on recommending it that it was a very spicy dish. He said yeah it is hot...he then said I don't mind it hot I am used to spicy food, then he suggested milk to help with the burn. We accepted the milk but this did not go down well with pasta and a cold beer. Very weird solution to a over spiced meal.
Once finished the meal and the waiter came to clear the plates I said man that was hot my mouth is burning go he replied next time if you want to order it you can get it with less chilli just ask and we can not add as much!
Surely I would think try and cater for most peoples pallete and have it mild and ask would you like it extra spicy and add more spice. I was disappointed that when I asked the waiter how the pasta was there was no mention that it was a spicy dish.
Overall good atmosphere kids had fun and enjoyed their meals and my husband and friend enjoyed their pizza but my friend and mine meal was totally destroyed with the heat from the well overloaded chilli. If this was my first time visiting our local restaurant I would probably give it a miss and try elsewhere but luckily I know I have had other nice meals there before....disappointed tonight sorry one good horse!!!!!

Nice new revamp to the place
beautifully done. Place is really nice, food was good and nicely priced. 4 of
us cost $180 in totally and we ordered entrees, mains and desserts and drinks.
Eton mess was really good; The Pork spare ribs were really enjoyable huge
serving, the fries were nice and golden and the salad nice fresh crisp love a
good simple salad with good fries! Huge serve of meat in the roast. The service
was great the atmosphere was great a real family restaurant but also good fr a
chilling out grab a meal kind of place with some mates. The downside…. Possibly
don’t sit 4 adults in the kids section, we couldn’t hear each other talk and
possibly ended up being louder than the kids - upside to that.... the kids went home after around an hour with all the families so we had the corner to ourselves.... But the service was awesome,
friendly and attentive, very professional yet casually relaxed so we could
enjoy and relax. Love the Artists all over the restaurant and we had a blast
being artist ourselves! Recommend for a
nice relaxed, well serviced night out.

I booked through Menu Mania but it pays to phone and check the next day as I did and surprise surprise they had not checked their emails and had no record of our booking.
We arrived 20 minutes early and were asked to wait in the bar, 20 minutes after our booked time a waitress approached us and apologized for the delay and when we asked for complimentary drinks she was quite happy to supply them.
The service overall was great, the food was average-good but it was apparent that there were a lot of people in the restaurant.
Would recommend the prawn twisters but not the loaf bread which had possibly been microwaved and was stodgy and hard as it cooled. Other meals had were the fish and chips, Cajun burger, Boss burger and the Lamb salad.
Eaton mess was the only dessert ordered and was disappointing - crisp meringue- not much cream-lots of juice and berries - where was the chewy meringue??
Overall a pleasant night but would probably choose another night of the week to go other than a Saturday.

Awesome atmosphere, with a lot of thought inducing decor from yesteryear horse racing. They also have a great range of meals and knowledgeable waiting staff.
Super friendly staff, combined with decent prices can't be beat. Cheers

I have dined at One Good Horse for both lunch and dinner on numerous occasions and love it. The menu has a great variety, is very well priced for the portion sizes and the staff are always very attentive. I love their outdoor area and the horse/racing theme as the decor is done very well. I don't live in the area but feel it is definitely worth any travel to dine there.

Well we took our two daughters 8 and 12 and our extended family inclduing our elderly parents. The interior was very cool .The kids loved drawing their horses. Service was faultless, food was varied, reasonably priced and fresh, and delicious! Impressed with the kids meals as they were fresh and a little more like wee meals than the standard hot dog or chicken nugget and chips!
We will definately be back again. Only fault would say it was a little noisey but was very busy!.

I absolutely love One Good Horse! My partner and I often go there, either by ourselves, with a child, or in a group. Very child friendly.

Fantastic & interesting decor, friendly & knowledgeable, happy staff (from what I've seen) I'm yet to fault it. Meals are of a generous portion for the price, consistent in quality (hat tip to the chefs out the back, whom I might add, always have a smile for you and seem genuinely pleased when thanked for a good meal)

I had the Goat Curry special a few weeks back - divine!

Keep up the good work, One Good Horse, I'll be there this Sunday for a feed :)

I went with my family for a Birthday lunch on Sunday.

All family members enjoyed the experience and the food was exceptional.
I have health issues with gluten and my needs were met by the caring staff helping me make choices that my diet required.
Thank you

Our family group of 9 went to One Good Horse for lunch today - Mother's Day. It was our first visit. What a treat! The fitout is exceptional. The service and food could not be faulted. The menu is clever as it caters for all tastes, including children. We will be back again as soon as possible. Hats off to whoever put it all together - it is a winner!

Went to 1 Good Horse with a group of 4 ( all over 50). I picked the prawn twisters as a starter, followed by the pork hock. The prawn twisters were a great start to the meal. But then came the pork hock! In my view, everybody in the world should have the ability to try this :-). It was one of the best main course meals I have had. My best mate also had this and we were both salivating, looking at the plate. The meat fall off the bone and the taste was great!
The interaction, looking at the open grill was also a great talking point. Will be back!!!
Rob

I took my horse mad mother there for dinner tonight and it was great, great food great staff and didn't cost too much. This was the 3rd time we have been there and we can't wait to go back again. The choices of meals is great from healthy to not healthy lol.

Don't let the car park fool you this is an excellent place to enjoy a meal. The service staff were really knowledgeable and professional, the decor intriguing and the food was super good. There were five of us and the fussy fish eaters thought their meals were great and I thought the chicken burger had the tastiest, juiciest, mouth watering amazing piece of chicken I have eaten this century! So nice to have a whole dining experience of wonderness.

I was so impressed with One Good Horse. We used to come here with our kids when it was Woodpeckers and it was fine. The food is absolutely fantastic now! From the garlic bread through to the dessert, it was all wonderful. i had the prawn linguine and it was excellent, the brulee was fabulous. Our whole party was very impressed. Service was great, friendly and not intrusive. We will definitely be back soon. (20/02/13)

(28/02/13) And I did come back. And really wish I hadn't. The food and service was as good as the first time we had been but when we were leaving I was stopped at the door and informed I hadn't paid the full bill. I asked what hadn't been paid for and was told a dessert and the main special of $40. I said we certainly had paid as I remembered seeing the special on the bill, and we had a voucher for dessert. I was asked who had been at the till, I couldn't say as I hadn't physically paid, so I went back to the table and picked up the docket to prove what had been paid. I was the informed by the woman at the till that she "didn't appreciate the sarcasm". I'm not sure how showing that I had paid is sarcastic but apparently at this restaurant it is. This totally ruined my night, I will never come back.

Went here for Valentines day and the atmosphere was nice with candles and changing lights. We were seated in a dimly light corner and it was all very romantic and there were enough spaces around the tables that we could have an intimate conversation without anyone overhearing us. It was a quiet and nice atmosphere.

The service was great and the staff were very pleasant. My partner had the steak with chips and salad, and he said that the steak was cooked perfectly and the chips with the gravy sauce was exceptional. I had the sicilian pizza, which I didn't realise that it had more meat than expected and was quite spicy. But the base was very nice. If I knew it had that much meat I would've ordered a vegetarian or margarita pizza but nevertheless it was still an alright pizza if you like meat. We shared the creme brulee for dessert with poached fruit. The creme brulee was perfect and delicious while the poached fruit was apricot and had the essence of aniseed, which I didn't like.

Overall it was a good place to dine especially since I have high expectation than usual for Valentine's Day but One Good Horse was a fine choice and I will recommend and will be back. Worth the drive all the way to Parklands for this restaurant.

i went to one good horse last night after hearing from a mate last week that it was an experience of a life time.
so I took my partner along and we entered into what it seemed like a dreamworld for jockeys and horse lovers. saddles on the wall, pictures of old school races and so much life to the restaurant.
I had the prawn cocktail for entree and was delicious. the only negative was that i felt guilty for treating myself. service was very good. The ribs for my main was perfect and i would get it again when i go back. really good to see what woodpeckers was. and how it has changed to One Good Horse and how it has improved with the quality of the food and service. Top marks. would recommend One Good Horse to everyone.

Had a fantastic meal here today. Sat at the table right in front of the Chef - fascinating listening to the service!
We had the Seafood Chowder and Prawn Twists (prawns wrapped in filo, with Asian dipping sauce) for entree. That was followed by fish of the day and carbonara, with afogato and creme brulee for desert. Service was excellent and so was the food. Will definitely be going back, sooner rather than later.

No bar service, waited for 15 minutes for drink, wait staff just stare in dream like at roof, keep putting hand up to get drink, gave up in the end. Steak over done, chips cold, salad was bland and too much of it. Wouldn't go back until they had bar service, 2 person table way too small.

Fabulous food, great atmosphere but very uncomfortable chairs. Suggest management look at getting some chairs for those with more than stick like proportions as the shape at the back of the chair digs into ones hips and my proportions are not overly ample!!
