I have been to chanakya every week lately and found the food to be of a high standard, fresh and very tasty. The service has always been top notch, nice family run restaurant with a clean environment. All the dishes that i have ordered so far have been excellent. The chat, idli and dosa are fantastic. Very uplifting food.
A quaint little place hidden inside a complex. But hands down one of the best meals we have had outside India. We ordered Papdi Chaat, Mysore Masala Dosa, Idli and Veg Biryani. Every item was awesome and finger lickin good! Esp the mysore masala, coconut chutney and sambhar was delicious beyond words. A hidden gem in Christchurch which is a must try.
Affordable and quality food means that place is super busy at dinner time. Might require bit of waiting to be seated as only few tables available. But worth every cent! Will definitely recommend and visit again next time.
The food is great. For an Indian who loves eating authentic Indian food it is wonderful. Just like home!!!! Highly recommend it. The dosa is so crisp and always great. The food quantity is substantial and at a great price. Waiting a while means the food is being prepared fresh
Great food at a great price. Always tasty, never had any issues with the food. This place is my go-to for Friday night takeaways. Happy to support such a great New Brighton restaurant!
Great place! the butter chicken is the best ive had! Lots of flavor. And the menu its big with lots to choose from Really nice bread too i highly recommend
Must try!!!! Amazing Indian food for a very reasonable prize. Available on different medium of spices. I love their Channa samosa, egg plant Salan and chicken dosa.
Best Indian food I've had in Christchurch, and so affordable too! They sell dosa as well which is hard to find in chch, the most delicious masala dosa i've had and the dahi papadi was so good

Small and tidy place, making me recollect eateries of the same ambience in India. Best idly we have tasted as yet in Christchurch. Biryani - unique and tasty, a bit less in quantity compared to other restaurants. Chaat was good. On the whole, food is very good.
Excellent food that's full of flavour and the owners are super friendly. Reasonably priced aswell. Will definitely come back again and definitely recommend to others
Basic chat items and idli dosai are really good.
Especially the samosa chat and idling really really worth the money spent.
Biriyani was decent compared to other Indian restaurants.

The Young lady with the short hair serving me was lovely and sweet and helped me choose a Beautiful Vegan dish (Eggplant Salaan)

Such a great little place!
Have been going here since it first opened. Traditional, delicious food served by the owner herself and her husband who seems to be the chef. They have a very small restaurant but we enjoy sitting in there always as well as the odd takeout.
My hope for this small but busy place is that they get a bigger establishment with toilets for customers to use and more tables to offer in-house dining, as they really contribute a destination for New Brighton which is fantastic for this community!
Small hidden gem with delicious food and customer obsessed. Amazing service. We ordered Mysore masala dosa, Idli , butter paneer ( best paneer I had, looks like they make fresh Paneer) , lamb biryani cooked to perfection. Away from home during vacation this place gave us the comfort with delicious food. If you are a big group , take away would be better option.
Food is really good. Tastes like authentic Indian food. We had a chance to try the dosa which was amazing! Will definately go again. Only thing the is place is tiny and usually there are wait times on tables. Wish they expand sometime. 🤞
Ordered sambar and egg plant curry, the best authentic south Indian food I have tried in NZ restaurant. Amazing flavours, loved it :). Keep up the good work guys 👍
Tried lunch here for the first time. Got a lamb saag and an eggplant dish. Both were wonderful. Great value to at under $10 per dish. Looking forward to going back for dinner.
Great authentic Indian food. My favourites are the dahi papdi and chilli honey cauliflower - they are delicious!! The dosa is the best I've had in Christchurch.
The paneer and spinach curry was a bit too sweet for my taste but others may like it.
I ordered a lunch chicken jalfrezi (medium hotness) takeaway. Packed with vegetables and meat. Extremely yummy flavour, not too much salt. Great portion size for $8.95. Very friendly man behind counter.

I have got recommend this place from my wife's friend, and I must say I like it. Small but nice vibe. The man who works here is extremely welcoming and nice. The food is great and good price. It's nice having a great Indian place in town. Highly recommend.
