We visited this fabulous restaurant for the second time since the new owner’s have taken over, and were once again wowed by the beautiful meal, and great welcoming customer service received! I would recommend the ‘slow cooked Massaman Lamb shanks’ and also the slow cooked Beef cheeks. Will definitely be making this our favourite Thai restaurant in future.

We had friends visiting from flood ravaged Gisborne who love Thai food. I had never been to Erawan Thai before but had heard good things about it. Wow !! it was great, in fact my friends said it was the best that they had ever had and that they had never meet such a friendly and efficient waitress/owner. Really nice atmosphere and a large central fire place to keep us warm on a cold chch night. Good value, fantastic service. "I'll be back"

Didn't know this place existed until we were driving along googling 'Thai near by'... we only live a few minutes away! Absolutely brilliant, food came out quickly and piping hot! Lovely atmosphere and service.

Pretty nice ! Good service, decent size portions, nice garlic and pepper stir fried beef... but the money bags and curry puffs weren't as tasty as I can get from other thai restaurants. However I was happy to find some thai iced tea on their drinks menu !

I have only been to one other Thai Restaurant that would be equally as good as Erawan in Christchurch. I never left anything on my place. The taste of my Seafood curry hot plate was delicious. The fish cakes had a nice bit to them. Price very affordable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back there.

Delivered by Uber Eats. The dishes were full of fresh vegetables and generous amounts of meat. Delicious. One of the best Thai meals I’ve had.

Erawan Thai Restaurant A little bit of Thailand without leaving the country, right from when you walk in the door warm welcome from the staff inviting an authentic Thai ambience and the food here is amazing traditional Thai food some of the best Thai food I have eaten outside of Thailand, Very highly recommend, we will be back

We shared a very lleasant evening with friends. Food and servuce were good. The atmisphere is pleasant, expressing traditional Thai culture. It was a bit cool because the fire was not working.
Dan Summer
Really tasted Thai cuisine. We were not dissappointed with our dishes ordered.

Very delicious, classic Thai dishes; Nice restaurant setup; romantic atmosphere! Must try in Christchurch; 10 mins away from city center

Excellent food and very good staff. Just hurt a bit when the process went up substantially and we then had to buy rice separately. Highly recommend the spicy beef with chili and basil, and their pad Thai.

We came in for dinner the other night and it was really good. The jungle curry was tangy and spicy and the massaman creamy. Chicken satay was delicious and I loved the little heart shaped rice. The service was attentive. An enjoyable meal for sure.

I have been going to this restaurant for years and I absolutely love it. Very tasty food ( green curry and tom yum soup in particular-although the pad thai has proven itself average) and generally really friendly staff. Sometimes the level of spiciness is inconsistent which can be a bit annoying but overall it’s well worth the money.

We checked the menu online, found it was going to cost about the same as our usual place (which has gone downhill since changing hands). We were horrified when we got the menus after sitting down, to discover the online menu was wrong and it was going to cost us over $20 more than we had budgeted for. We had missed the First Table option as it was sold out..... which was odd as we were the only ones in the restaurant for the first three quarters of an hour. The food was lukewarm, but the massamam curry was superb. The pad thai looked good but the noodles weren't the usual type and were slimy. The satay was overly sweet and our daughter didn't like it. The final meal was the fresh basil chicken. My husband asked for it to be kiwi-hot... but it was mild when it came out. Overall.... food not hot, cost more than advertised, and was just generally a rubbish experience

My wife and i visited on the 26-03-2017. A sign on the window read New Chef and New Menu, sounded tempting. We ordered money bags entree to share and mains of chicken pad Thai and satay pork and vegetables. Oh how i wish i had seen the ratings and reviews on here. I have been to so many thai restaurants, that i truly couldn't count how many, however this food was the least tasty and unpleasant Thai food i have ever had in a restaurant i am sorry to say. The money bags were like plain potato and seasoning possibly lots of msg. The Pad Thai was incredibly flavorless and the Satay was simply strange and seemed to have lots of tomatoes and ingredients not normally in a satay. Decor and ambiance was actually ok. Service was not very welcoming or friendly and not even a free meal voucher could get me to return.

You know a Pad Thai is fancy-good when it's enclosed in an egg-shaped ball, but beware, for that special salad is literally just a pile of tossed carrots with selected garnishes that are fairly close to the major players on the colour wheel. This place gets a 3.5/5 for their orange-but-unrelated-to-Donald-Trump agenda.

We ordered two meals to takeaway. Service was fast and the staff were very friendly. The rice portion was minimal so this could be increased. They are not the cheapest Thai takeaways around, however tonight they most certainly appeared to be created cheaply. The green curry and the Chili Basil both had the same mixture of carrot, beans, pumpkin and bamboo. The beans looked like they were straight from a frozen bag. The Chili Basil had no basil in it and the sauce just tasted like a generic soy and honey combo with a lot of reconstituted dehydrated garlic in it. We were not asked what chili heat we wanted in the green curry and the chef defaulted to hot which wasn't too pleasant but the overall flavour in this dishes sauce was good.

I phoned up for a takeaway of garlic chicken with cashew nuts and was surprised once got it home on the plate. The vegetables were underneath the chicken (usually a stir fry has meat & vege stir-fried together did seem stir-fried to me at all. There was a little dribble of sauce pretty much a waste of $16 very bland and tasteless. Will not be back :(

This is a great restaurant with authenticity in its dishes. We've been there twice now, with this second time being just as good. The kitchen did a magnificent job of the chef's special and both meals were fantastic. Sure, the language barrier can make things interesting here, but it's a Thai restaurant guys - it's almost like being there, especially if you dine outside.

Great food, good/friendly service - will definitely keep coming back.

A favourite for thai takeaways. We have never dined in but have had a drink while waiting for takeaway and it seems like it has a nice atmosphere. Food is so delicious

A rather interesting experience. Food was great, good size portions, tasty and well priced. Service was a little slow, one waitress didn't speak hardly any english, but tried hard. The other one was very inexperienced, didn't know the dishes, was wearing heels and complained to us about sore feet, and took our order on her knees. Another couple had the joy of having a moth squashed on their table lol. The atmosphere was pretty good, however they need to block off the pokies room a bit more. All in all, I would go back for the food, and being BYO, I suggest with the drink prices that you do take your own drinks.
Rougette
yummy and they do great gluten free meals

I just read the only review in Hammersley's and had to write something to the contrary. We dined with a group for a special occasion late 2011 and I found the atmosphere, decor and food just delightful. They were busy and everyone arrived at the same time however they did well to accomodate and everything out on time. Nice people, I think if you have to wait anywhere for longer than 5-7 minutes you should ask for attention. We are going back in May..cheers
Katie
We have been to this restaurant for takeaways and to sit in for a meal. Each time we hav dined in the service has been disappointing. Last night was no exception. We booked a table so they new to expect us. But on arrival we were rushed to our table and after more than 20mins of being seated we had not seen the waitress again...no water was brought to the table, no order for drinks taken and no menus provided. this has happened before, although last time we actually got the menu to look at! We tried to get attention of staff but no one came over and after another small group arrived, and were provided with menus and asked of their drinks order by a different waitress and drinks..... we had had enough and left. We were looking forward to a nice night but that didn't happen at Hammersleys.
