We came here for takeaways around 5 pm. Although the interior gave the impression that it was winding up for the day, it was certainly not the case. We ordered a whole heap of food which they were able to make for us with no fuss, and they even gave us the recommendation not to get the ramen as a takeaway option due to the mess factor on the commute home. It was a delicious spread of Japanese food!
I'd totally come back here again should the opportunity present itself and we're back in the Sydenham area.

Their Donburi menu also is great! My favourites are the Tempura Veggie curry & the Karaage chicken don.

The chef provide fresh ingredients each day and promote different combos, my favourite is eel combo. The price is reasonable and affordable, also, this restaurant provide FOOD in good quality and enough quantity. Most of Japanese restaurant in Chrisychurch are expensive and low quality such as the one next to H&M, me and my 2 other friends went there found out things cannot even be called as sushi, and turned out we cost $207 at last. BUT, IN SESAME YOU WILL BE FEED BY YUMMY DISHES AT AN AFFORTABLE PRICE, BIG MEAL COMBO COULD DO AS 35 PER PERSON SOMETIMES. GREAT JOB FONE BY CHEF

Best takeaway I've ordered since in New Zealand. Ordered a Vegetarian Bento Box + Spring rolls. Everything was perfectly cooked, seasoned and fresh. Included soy sauce + sauce for the spring rolls which was also perfectly balanced between sweet and slightly spicy. I can't say enough good things about this amazing restaurant and the owner was super friendly on the phone and personally. 10/10 Recommended !! :) Arigatō Gozaimasu !

We enjoyed the food. Ambience was slightly lacking as in no music and wasn't any free water available for those dining in which we found quite odd. Service was a pass (just) Had those extra little touches been in place would have scored you a close 5.

Love that the takeaway options on rice are in cardboard boxes.
My only comment would be however cute the individually wrapped sushi is it seems so wasteful :-/

While there is of no doubt that the food is fantastic but the service and the rude staff underpin this.
I have had appalling customer service on two occasions now.
One occasion my 15 year old son asked what happened to food that is not sold at the end of the day.
The staff member was extremely rude in her response and just now I placed an order and got told after a 5 minute wait that it would be another ten minutes
I said I was in a rush and got a very rude response.
This is not called for and will not go back

A bit of tranquility among the crowds.
The day marked my last day of the 2nd year in NZ and I thought I could go somewhere quiet and treat myself with lunch time pleasure. It could be a hell of a mission around the area as hectic as Colombo Mall.
I saw this Sesame Sushi restaurant, which must be just open, almost missed it as it's shyly located but close enough to see from the main street. I walked in and got surprised by the neat presentation. Naturally lit by the sunshine the dining area is bright and spacious, I guided myself a quick tour before the lovely servant greeted me with a full smile. At the corner wall hangs a huge flat TV playing the latest MV by coldplay. A perfect place to celebrate my anniversary!
I took a seat and settled myself before browsing the sushi selection. I had to say the gently placed sushi rows made my mouth watery, what's really nice was that I could choose my own sushi one by another and put them in a fancy tray. I took about 10 sushis, all different ones and enjoyed the music. A great lunch break indeed.
