Review The Elmwood - Christchurch

The pub looked really good - with a great atmosphere. We had an early meal in the restaurant - chicken parmigiana was good for the price and service was very attentive. Keen to come back some time soon.

My husband and I went here last Saturday with a 40% off voucher. He loved his lamb rump and oh my goodness I LOVED the spaghetti carbonara! I get it nearly everywhere I can and this is definitely up there with the best. So much bacon, fantastic amount of Parmesan. First time I’ve never been able to finish a pasta dish as there was such a generous amount. Such lovely staff, one in particular…maybe Brook? Amazing customer service. So friendly and accommodating. Only down side is we live in Wellington 😫 But we we definitely be back when we visit next! Thanks so much!

Just had my Christmas party for work at The Elmwood. All the managers were so accommodating to all my staff. The food was absolutely brilliant and the service was impeccable 👌. Definitely will be back. Thank you to all the team at The Elmwood.❤ - The Freight Hub.

Great atmosphere for a pub but not really conducive to chatting with your fellow diners at your own table. Unless you go on a Sunday. Food has been fantastic on both occasions 😁

Food was very nice, generous helpings and reasonable prices. My crispy chicken waffles with maple syrup were excellent, and my husband's roast beef was tender, and a very generous serve. Would definitely go again.

Courtney you are one on a million. You deserve a paid rise Your service and customer focus was 10 out of 10. Meals were all enjoyed by all and a good size.. Panhead IPA super charge was beer of choice.

A group of 6 of us dining in and each choosing differently. Food was great and good quantity so no one left feeling hungry. 'Doggy bags' were taken by 3 because there was just much to get thru. Dessert enjoyed by 2 and good coffee enjoyed by another 2. We have been before and we will go again.

I went there last week with my nephew his wife and 2 children is I live in Blenheim my nephew told me this is the place he went to always he said it was wonderful at all I can do is say it was great lovely family sort of laid-back restaurant it was lovely I know now when I come back to Christchurch I will more than happily go there again a great place

We had a family reunion there in the end room which was ideal for it. Cost was reasonable for food and drinks with no charge for the room. I highly recommend it for get togethers.

Really impressed with the quality of food and reasonable prices. Definitely not typical pub grub. Great atmosphere, tastefully decorated interior with lots of character. Staff were lovely too.

Most of the staff were great, but there was that one. Tilly is the cutest pub dog ever. Great food.

Even quiet at lunch time about 1pm.the food quality was pretty good, coffee also good, and staff is kind and lovely girl. :-) recommended

Went on Wednesday night for a beer and bowl of fries. It was a good vibe from walking in the door. the service was great .Good selection of food on offer , Specials every day , good portion size of fries . Great, they don't have those small metal baskets that a lot of places serve fries in . well worth checking out

Great place for lunch. My gluten free pizza was great just wondering why it was $27 yet appeared $24 in menue and no mention of extra costs? Otherwise very enjoyable

Bar staff were lovely and polite. My husband had the open steak sandwich which was ironically closed. Steak was good quality and cooked well and the onion rings were crispy and tastey. I had the Hawaiian chicken burger and luke warm hot chocolate. The only thing that the burger has going for it is the bun, the pineapple tasted off and was inedible, I'm not fussy so I just pulled it out instead of sending it back. The chips tasted like the cheap ones from the supermarket and the sauces equally as cheap tasting. It was very popular though so obviously people like it here!

The menu aspires to be far above the reality of the food. When you see a $10 garlic bread you hope for more than a small 4 slice loaf that is still frozen in the middle. The platters are poor value, and the mains rarely live up to the descriptions on the menu. Steak came with mashed potatoes that were both gluey and full of lumps, a Guinness pie was a watery broth in a bowl with a pastry lid. The quiz host and bar staff are lovely though.

The wife dug out another one of the Grabone vouchers she seems to accumulate.  So off to the Elmwood Trading Company we went.  First impressions were that this place is a dump.  We advised the nice young guy behind the bar that we had a booking.  He didn’t check any reservation book or anything, he just asked where would we like to sit.  (I later realised that he was the barman, order taker, food server, clean upper and pokie machine re-filler.)  Two areas to choose from to dine.  Main bar area adjacent to the TAB machine, or the “restaurant” area out back.  We chose the restaurant area.  Just so you are aware there are no windows in this area but there is a large TV to watch the sport on!  For our dining experience the options included such fine delicacies as “Gourmet Dogs” (The Original Dog - American frankfurter, fried onions rings, melted mozzarella cheese, tomato ketchup and American mustard or Pork Dog - Pork & herb sausage, aioli, cabbage & apple slaw, onion marmalade and American mustard or Breakfast Dog - Kransky sausage, with bacon, melted cheese, fried onions rings, fried egg and sage and onion marmalade).  Alternatively we could have had a burger!  We both chose what appeared to be the best option which was the “Chicken Supreme at $30.00 - Buttermilk marinated ham & cheese stuffed chicken breast crumbed and fried, with your choice of 2 sides and 1 sauce.  The sides I chose were buttered steamed veg of the day and steamed potatoes in garlic butter.  I went with a mushroom sauce.  The other half went for the same except she went for a garlic butter sauce.  The meals were average but did get a massive steak knife to cut the chicken with.  Would have felt ripped off at $30 a pop, but as she had a voucher it was a two for one deal.  Felt sorry for the lone ranger who seemed to be doing all the work.  Will not go back again.
