Review The Station - Christchurch

We were looking for another Korean Bbq and found this place in Papanui. The place looks old outside, but the vibe inside looks like local korean restaurant in k-drama. The buffet price is $32 dollars which I think is cheap compared to other Korean buffet. The selections are smaller but the quality and taste is really good. We loved the marinated beef and pork. The beef was tender and not chewy. The pork is not too thin which is good. The side dishes selections are great. We loved the seaweed soup. Didn’t try the kimchi soup and miso soup as I was already full. The service is nice and accommodating. We will definitely come back again! 👍

Buffets are dime a dozen, but this one is a tad better than most just when you thought, you've tasted everything to be had at a Korean BBQ buffet. Great and generous side dishes like the well-seasoned tofu cubes and the glass noodles laced with a hint of butter. There are some slight misses like the uncharacteristically bland fried chicken wings, but I guess you can always dip into their selection of sauces. I normally skip soups (makes you full too quickly), but have a go at the Kimchi soup which was surprisingly refreshing.

The best restaurant ever it’s really good I give it 100% of stars. If I had the chance the best quality ever service. I wish this business can be promoted because the food is good and the service is good and really nice people and the owners are really nice. I will be definitely come back to this restaurant.

Loved this little place, had never had Korean BBQ and what a friendly way to start. Amazing sweet crunchy chicken wings. Nothing overly spicy just a lovely hum. Sdo wish they offered a dessert option on their buffet but no stars lost for it. Amazing price $32

Visited the resto twice, once for dinner and once for lunch. There was a young chap serving us during dinner time, and he was very enthusiastic about introducing the dishes. Made the whole dining experience better as well. We ordered Samgaetang (ginseng chicken soup), japchae, hot plate sliced pork with squid, and a fish dish. Yummm… The next day we came back for lunch as we brought guests to try hot soupy stuff on a rainy day. The young chap wasn’t around and the owner seemed a little more unapproachable as he didn’t smile and talk much. Overall experience not bad.

Food is good but don’t have any service. Looks like self-service restaurant.

Good food with affordable pricing. This restaurant used to be a train station, hence the unique looking layout inside. Parking spaces available near the restaurant.

Meat lover will love this place. Sweet soy chicken is very nice and variety of sources are provided. Korea BBQ is always fascinating. Hope server is more helpful. Other than great to go with that price.

Dude this place slaps 👌🔥 the food is fresh and delicious. I gotta say, they change the food trays every 25 minutes when it's empty so that's amazing! My favorite thing to eat there 100% is the prawns and the shrimp. Ugh! That's my kryptonite. The beer is pretty expensive tho so drinking water was ok. Wish there were more options for beverages. The place looked clean and cozy, only thing is, is that it is kinda smaller than your average buffet, so if you're planning on going with a family of 5 or so, it'll be kinda troublesome. But I went with my gf and we both enjoyed ourselves and indulged in some fine Korean BBQ! I would highly recommend this place, and for the price, you really can't beat it!

Our favourite place to eat!! Excellent food, lots of veggies, gorgeous grilled pork ribs and stir fry beef bulgogi. Absolutely love stir fry chicken noodles!! Selection of 6 korean appetizers is served for free and you wouldnt want to miss trying them as they are very unusual and authentic. Great owners and staff! Highly recommended!!!

One of my all time favourite Korean restaurants in Christchurch. Beautiful food, the seafood pancake is a must try! They also have a number of side dishes - these are all refillable on request!

Great food fantastic service warm and inviting.
The waiters were so helpful and wrote a nice note for my homestays, so that when they got back to Korea there families could understand
Thank you

One of the best Korean restaurant I’ve been since coming to Christchurch. Food was amazing, I would definitely suggest trying their popular dishes from BBQ beef, chicken or squid. Also try their ice-cream made from scratch while you watch them make it!

excellent food and service. great atmosphere. Food came very quickly, however no compromise on quality. I would recommend to anyone looking for Korean cuisine in Christchurch.

After two weeks of travelling in South Island it was great to find a good Korean restaurant. We had the Stir Fried Spicy Pork and Spicy Tofu Stew for lunch and both were very tasty. The six varieties of side dishes were delicious as well. The service was attentive. It was a bit chilly today and I think they noticed us feeling the cold and without being asked to, brought a huge heater and placed it next to our table, a gesture I really appreciate. I'll gladly return again next time I visit Christchurch.

If I could rate this place a 0 I would... I have been a couple of times and the food has always been average, the service slow and tardy. On my most recent visit with a couple of friends (not by choice) I had the Korean Style Curry - Chicken Cutlet. The serving size was good, the taste, again, average.
6 Hours after eating at this place I fell sick - The worst case of Food Poisoning I have ever had. I was crook for 3 days. I do not recommend dining at this establishment, unless you want a side dish of norovirus.

Took my little fussy eater there for dinner it was her first time ever trying korean food, she LOVED it ... Food was delicious, service was great, portions were decent and not to mention all these little salads dishes (free refill) and to finish this amazing experience we had OG ice cream .... Lovely finish to a delicious spicy meal.... Definitely will be going back

■friendly
■good atmosphere
■varieties
■easy to park

I came down from Auckland this weekend and chose this restaurant.
I was right. The staff is friendly and keep serving side dishes.
Of course the main that I ordered was perfect.

Went with a party from work and ordered the spare ribs. My party was happy with their food but my spare ribs were sent straight back to the kitchen! The meat was like leather and literally un-chewable!
And it was really, really cold inside! Would not go back.

After a few days of travelling South Island and in need of some Asian food, finding The Station was surely a treat. It has high quality and delicious food, with a couple variations that I don't normally get: Bibimbap in a stone bowl with raw beef instead of cooked and chargrilled spicy pork bulgogi with grilled veggies underneath. The flavours were authentic (as far as I'm familiar.) Good amount of side dishes with refills, and the seafood pancake had big pieces of seafood inside. I like how they do not cheap out on ingredients. It's a bit of a rare location and not overly heated, those are the only downfalls.

Really good Korean & Japanese food at very realistic prices. Ambience is lacking but the food and service more than compliments this.
We ordered from the Korean menu and were not dissapointed. The service was spot on and the food delicious. Even the children enjoyed it all, including the spicy dishes. The spare ribs were exceptional with the boy giving them a 10 out of 10. I honestly can't remember tasting better.
Word of warning - that is a train coming through the station, not another 6.4

mhm... Spicy squid & pork tastes so sweet and spicy, goes so well with rice♡ My bf and I love the spicy seafood tofu hotpot too, so perfect for a cold winter night! We are happy repetitive customers :) Ernie Huang

Great authentic food - a really well kept secret cheap eat with BYO! We are so lucky having this in Papanui. I went past a few times but there was no menu on the door and so was never sure.

Also great setting in the old Papanui railway station

Service was excellent (which you don't expect for the price). Morally bound to write a review but tempted to keep it secret

Very good food. We came a bit late at lunch time. The restaurant was supposed to close at 3 pm, but the owner still accommodated us friendly. Food was served fast. The price is cheap as well. If we didn't leave to home tomorrow, we would certainly come back again. At the end, we finished all the food. I like spicy food.

I had high hopes for The Station and the food did not dissapoint! It was amazing. Unfortunately the same could not be said about the service. When our group of 20 arrived we were told that I had called a couple of days earlier to cancle the booking! The staff didn't believe that this was deffinatly not the case and refused to admit any mistake on their part. Very unprofessional, I'm glad there was no other booking and they could fit us in, although we had to move around tables our selves.

Fabulous, fabulous and hugely popular last night with my two wellington foodie siblings. The proprietor is fantastic with his patient and accurate description and recommendations from the menu. This is a really tasty meal - not many left in the city I can tell you. Surroundings and ambiance the best. Never been let down by this gem of a restaurant. AND - brilliant pricing. Unbelievable actually.
What?
Fantastic!
Based on the two prior reviews, I ate at The Station tonight.
Decor is average, but the service and food are wonderful. The waiter explained the food well, and also the various Korean beverages.
I had the spicy chicken, which was simply excellent. The kimchi was some of the tastiest I have had, too.
I was not sure about the Korean cold sake, to be honest, but once the food arrived (only a short wait), I got it; the sake just worked with the food. Definitely worth doing the Korean thing all the way, rather than drink Euro style wines as one would so often do.
The Station is on a par with De Coree in Palmerston North, Great food, great people, great prices. What more could you ask for?

A perfect place for dine out!!! I love the layout of the restaurant where you can see trains go pass every now and then while eating.

I had spicy chicken dish and my partner had sweet soy sauce marinated pork ribs. The main dishes were served with a few side dishes and 2 bowls of plain cooked rice. They were full of flavour and absolutely delicious! Oh, we also had a bottle of berry wine and a plum wine. They were quite sweet which I loved because they were so refreshing.

This place has been busy every time we went and it is very lively. Great food and friendly staff, what can I say more.

Can't get much better than this! I don't rate things highly unless they deserve it. The service was fantastic and friendly. The atmosphere and decor was unique and rewarding. The food was soooo tasty I think my taste buds were having a party. It was soooo good we're taking family back there tomorrow night!
