Review Urban Verge - Epsom

Took my coeliac fussy 4yo for breakfast and the staff were so knowledgeable and friendly. They brought my daughter her gluten free breakfast which was so beautiful and clearly had a lot of care put in, even separated as per fussys request. The adults had GF eggs bene which was amazing and the coffee was so good we bought extra to go. Also a kids table complete with lots of toys which is a goldmine to find in itself ! Highly recommended and we will be making this our regular whenever we come to visit Auckland

Wonderful cafe with friendly service and a diverse menu. I love the vegetarian breakfast, with Halloumi cheese, mushrooms, eggs, sourdough bread and more. There is a gas fireplace in the main dining room, and two different outdoor areas (with blankets for when it is cold). I've eaten here several times in the past two weeks (Aug. 2023), and I found the service and atmosphere so enticing that I keep coming back for more. The scrambled eggs I had twice were perfectly cooked and delicious. There are two different restrooms (upstairs and off the back patio, downstairs). Sometimes parking can be a bit of a crunch. I've parked on residential streets in the past and took the short walk to the cafe. This is one of the many delicious "Littles" I have found in Auckland (including Little Jimmy on Manukau Road, and Little Bird Kitchen and Little & Friday (bakery) in Ponsonby neighborhood). Highly recommend this spot. Note: Only open for breakfast and lunch on most days, and may have adjusted hours for "Winter trading." - Check hours to verify.

(Visited and reviewed on 4 October 2023) I had the salmon bagel and caramel milkshake here. Both were delicious, and my mum had the chicken burrito bowl, in which the presentation was out of this world! This could be the cafe with the nicest food presentation in Auckland! Worth coming here again!

Our food was so yummy and fresh. The smoothies were also delicious. The staff were so lovely and accommodating especially with us moving tables twice and our very noisy baby the front of house lady was super nice to us! We loved our food and was shocked at the big portions for the price, super happy about that. This will now be our new favorite local go to!

The best coffee in Auckland! Stopped into this friendly place on Manukau Road (just opposite the entrance to Cornwall Park) for a late breakfast while walking the Auckland Coast to Coast trail. Superb coffee and an excellent Eggs Benedict. You can sit out on the street and watch the world go by, grab a table inside, or sit out the back on the quiet, shady terrace. If you're passing, I can highly recommend Little Urban.

Lovely place with a selection of cabinet food and menu items for breakfast and lunch. I tried eggs Benedict which had beetroot cured salmon and smoked tomato hollandaise sauce . Very delicious. Highly recommend! Good coffee also ❤️

I've had food from Little Urban about 4 times. At least 2 of those times have been delivery via uber eats. I am recovering from an injury and ordered a delivery today. I wasn't paying attention to the order notes when I placed it and a lovely staff member quickly called me to make sure I got what I wanted. The coffee I ordered was great and the waffles were delicious. I really want to highlight the care that my order was prepared with and the attention to detail. Thanks to the lovely person who went the extra mile to call as well.

Lovely little cafe, came here with family for brunch to celebrate my partner's birthday. Food tasted amazing, and we couldn't help trying a bit of everyone's meal ;) Drinks were superb, especially the smoothies. The artwork on the wall was gorgeous, and we looked up the artist on our phones. Would absolutely return to try something else here, maybe for lunch or dinner...

Come here if you want non-existent service. Seeing another table getting seated and served AFTER you. Come here if you want to get the wait staff's attention only to watch her flirting with the next table for 5 minutes straight.
If you want to pay to be ignored, I'd recommend getting a cat instead.

Thai Chicken salad, while tasty had zero ‘salad’ and peanuts in it which were not advertised and was luke warm at best. The service was non existent and additions to requirements of our meals ‘side of scrambled eggs’ were met with disdain and confusion. Really poor overall with tables left with dirty dishes on for half an hour and barista was having a bad day - surliest I’ve come across for a while.... perhaps just a bad day overall???

A very spacious venue with both indoor and outdoor seating options, quick service and a very urban-like feel.

We had breakfast here this morning and really enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service all fantastic. Highly recommend coming here.

Very rude owner, if it is the guy at the counter. He was argumentative, he won’t survive in the industry for long if he doesn’t change his ways. Worst mocha ever. Hot cooked food is okay. Salads were good. (Thai chicken salad)

We ordered and paid for our coffee. When we left, the guy inside ran and yelled to us to pay for the bill. Because we were so shocked and speechless he repeated that we need to pay for the bill in an accusatory and a bit racist manner. We were going to clarify everything when the lady inside apologised and said it was a mistake and the guy went inside. They should check first before accusing customers. This left us shaken. Won’t be coming back again.

Went there yesterday for a brunch catch-up with a group of 6 work colleagues, this was first time for all of us and none of us lives locally! We reserved a table and as soon as we arrived everything was good, we ordered coffee and our meals, it was around 1:15pm so wasn't very busy! Within 5mins the coffees came. Lovely coffee but then we waited and waited and waited...after 45mins (at 2pm) we enquired about where our meals were, then we were told that our order had been lost and we had to order again. The women/supervisor who came over was very unapologetic considering this is relatively small cafe and we were in full view of where u get served (right in front of the cashier & by the entrance). She asked the staff in front of all of us who took the order etc. (immediately I felt sorry for the staff). We ended up order something from the cabinet as we don't want to wait for another hour or 45mins for food! It goes beyond belief how a party of 6 people in a not busy cafe in full view can get so neglected. You took our orders on a piece of paper and didn't even follow up or find it odd when we were sat there for 45min with no food. The icing on the cake is when the supervisor said we don't need to pay for our coffee but didn't communicate that to the front cashier who then proceeded to question us on why we should get free coffee. All of us were so disapointed with the experience, I had better customer service at McDonalds drive through at 3am.

Stopped here to grab takeaway coffee and muffins before heading to the playground at One Tree Hill Domain just across the road. Disappointingly we realised our hard earned cash had been wasted on burnt coffee and muffins which tasted so old they were inedible. The pigeons at the park were not so fussy as us and ate them within minutes.

My daughter and I had lunch here today. The service was quick and friendly. My daughter’s Eggs Benedict with bacon was lovely. The eggs looked gorgeous. My Mezze plate was very average. Some of the elements were nice - the ?quinoa salad and some little savoury croquettes - yummy. The tomato and cucumber salad had possibly been in fridge for some hours, maybe overnight, had that waterlogged appearance and taste, dolmades very average and the tzatziki on the turn. I gave feedback on settling the bill, so hope they can freshen up that option.

Came here with my family of 5 and we were all really pleasantly surprised! I have no idea how this place has low reviews? The service was good, great coffee and food was perfect! It was such great value for money and all of us were really happy with our meals! We’ll be back :)

Friendly staff, excellent eating place for the whole family. Was quite busy when I visited but still they managed to get our food out fast! Menu is pricy but good quality food

Was really disappointed. The staff were really unfriendly and disinterested. Ordered a savoury muffin and hot chocolate. The muffin was dry, stale and tasteless. My hot chocolate was milky and weak. Certainly not value for money. Would not return or reccomend.
Was recommended this cafe by someone up the road as we were early for a wedding. I stood at the counter while the person chatted to a woman discussing her private arrangements. I stood waiting for atleast 5 minutes. No apology when she took my order. Staff not friendly at all and for the most unwelcoming.
I had the white chocolate and raspberry friand which tasted oily. You know when spray oil has been used to coat the tin. Tasted so oily you couldn't taste anything else. Coffee was weak, won't recommend.

Good place for coffee and nice environment. Had breakfast and a black coffee. Enjoyed. I would try something else in the menu next time. Recommended.

Food and coffee was good but will not be returning due to lack of service- owner himself was rude and made us feel very unwelcome. Use to be a much nicer and family friendly cafe when it was previously owned by Remi and was frolic cafe. Will rather venture out to royal oak mall and enjoy brunch there.
Leanne Schou
Stopped in for a coffee hoping that with how good it used to be under the Frolic management that things continued in the same vein. Nope. Coffee was ok, didn’t bother with the food as the place smelt so bad, like a cheap takeaway that we didn’t bother.. so sad to see as it used to be awesome for families and friends, will not return and seems by other reviews that others agree.

Popped into this cafe mid Sat morning - place was empty. A good selection of cabinet food however we just had coffee 3/5. Staff friendly enough.

Excellent café! We’re from overseas and each time we travel to Auckland we come here for their Eggs Benedict! Anyway before it was called Frolic and today it is called urben Verge... changing name has not impacted the quality of the food ! I love it and will come back again!

Staff was friendly. My sisters and I had the big breakfast, crepes and "big benedict". Crepes was yum and fruits were perfect. The big breakfast was filling but the hollandaise sauce on the Benedict was too buttery. I don't think it's necessary to call it "big" as it's not. Good coffee. Okay prices.

Had a beautiful brekkie here on Sunday - 3 of us had the Eggs Benedict and Hubby had the big breakfast. All meals were superb as was the coffee. Service was prompt and staff super friendly, couldn't be faulted. Am going to put out the suggestion to kids to bring me back for Mothers Day. I see there's a complimentary glass of bubbles included. Sounds a good plan to me. Well done Urban Verge

Pretty dissapointing. A star for the timely and friendly service and another for the atmosphere. Beautiful location, nice venue and a cool place for kids to play. Food arrived pretty quick, water was chilled; unfortunely the food was sub optimal.

I ordered an eggs benedict with bacon, and it was literally just bread, eggs, few slices of bacon and hollandaise sauce. For $19.50 it was a total ripoff, and looked like it was whipped up in 3 minutes. Looked basic, minimalistic and did not taste to justify the price, and seemed at odds with it’s location and stylish urban aesthetic. Though recognisably an eggs benedict It tasted basic and boring. Luckily the portion size was enough to feel full.

So the food was alet down. If the price was way lower I’d return for a budget meal, however this cafe is trying to be something it’s not with the stark ratio between quality food and price.

I used to be a regular visitor at this place but since the ownership changed, things are pretty average here. This is my second visit after the change of the ownership and once again the service was terrible. Firstly, no one smiles here. Then they goofed up my husband’s order. Please note the guy serving us didnt even apologise once. We had to wait for nearly 25 mins for our order even though the place was quite. Then finally the food arrives and it wasn’t good too. I suggest , please do not visit this place unless you are starving and have no where else to go!

Soul food at its best. Super friendly waiters and owner. Yummy healthy food and great coffee. They even have a coffee to go service. Best value for money and free parking
Julia Louise
Friendly staff and good, fresh food. Food came out very quickly. Options for gluten free and dairy free folks. Nice little area for kids to play on the back verandah.

We decided to have breakfast here today. Never again. Terrible service (how could you forget to serve one of your few two customers a drink they ordered?). Food was equally disappointing. For $21, you get a Prawn & Avo salad which = a bowl of shop bought salad leaves topped with a few cooked frozen prawns, sliced cucumber and avo plus shop bought dressing. For $21.50, you get a smoked salmon ‘Big Benedict’ = 3 thin slices of STALE sourdough bread topped with a few slices of smoked salmon, topped with 2 cold poached eggs smothered in horrible, synthetic tasting, shop bought hollandaise sauce. The eggs Ben were so awful I didn’t eat them (although my husband did because he was still hungry after his prawn salad).
This place needs a change in ownership to save it.

The service is absolutely shocking. The staff were unfriendly, rude and condescending. The food is nothing special. I had the corn fritters which was enjoyable, however others at my table were served cold, overcooked and unflavoured food. Due to the horrible service, I will definitely not be returning.

Very friendly staff with good wholesome food. A nice weekend lunch! Staff were very attentive to my wife’s dietary requirements. Would definitely visit again.

Had a pretty decent breakfast here, nothing too special about the menu but the servers were nice and the meal prep time was pretty quick. Wouldn’t mind coming back here to try other items.

Very warm greeting from obviously experienced staff. I had the special salad which was tasty with chicken and plentiful enough. (Last salad at frolic was tiny). Partners blat was good and she finished it for once. Nice place, still, out back for children to play though it will cause issues later as she was so distracted from eating we’ll have a grumpy toddler to deal with this afternoon. No coffee tried this time.

My brunch here was average, nothing special. We ordered the big breakfast and bacon & eggs. I really didn't enjoy the coffee at all, I'm not sure what coffee they use but I didn't like the taste and couldn't finish it. Staff were okay but seemed distracted with whatever was going on in the kitchen. They took a while to take our order and forgot chocolate/cinnamon on the cappuccino. The ambience is nice though, right across the road from Cornwall park. I would probably go back for the cabinet food.
