Review Thai Silk Restaurant - Hastings

We were visiting Hawkes Bay, and found that this place topped the Google Reviews for Thai restaurants. We didn't have a booking, and I'm hindsight were lucky to get a table. Was a solid stream of guests all evening. Fresh and new decor, Friendly staff. Chicken Penang and Chicken Pad Thai were ordered, delivered quickly and consumed. All of us rated the food highly, and would definitely come back again.

We have a very nice lunch at this restaurant. I ordered spicy seafood. It is really spicy and taste good. The service is very fast.

Nice food and yummy taste. The salad sauce is perfect to go with beef and appetizing dishes are not oily. We have a great night there.

Tasty food, recommend the Spicy Duck. Super friendly staff and food was quick to arrive for a six person party. Would 100% recommended.

Hoi Pad Ped. Mussel is green curry. With coconut milk. Better do a reservation for dinner.

My favorite Thai restaurant. Love the Crispy Pork Red Curry paired with their coconut rice all the time.

Consistent high quality food. Can get extremely busy at times.

The food and service is first class But a reminder that we came between 5 and 6pm ,i.e early enough to miss the rush hour. Dated atmosphere , close seating , so gets louder and louder but if ghere just for the food there is a takeaway counter attached to main dining room ...

We all totally enjoyed our meals (group of 9). Thank you! I had the braised beef soup main which was very tasty with beautiful tender beef in it. I also tried the duck curry which was amazing with just the right amount of spice.

It's probably high time I contributed a review on this place, as my partner and I have been eating there on a regular basis for several years. There may have been a change of ownership over that period, but the transition appears to have gone quite smoothly as we have been warmly welcomed by the same friendly and familiar faces each time. Over the years we have mostly noted consistency, both in the quality of the menu (in comparison with other Thai/Asian restaurants) and the level of time delays in receiving our meals. I will add, however, that last night's green curry was let down by slightly undercooked potato, usually presented perfectly. The negative comments posted here (below) are certainly relevant as we too have experienced delays in waiting for meals, though usually only, as we have found, at peak times and dates, such as Mothers' Day and Christmas, etc - when the restaurant is full of diners. I believe this problem would be expected at most restaurants as staff generally struggle to cope with increased diner numbers despite extra staff. I would certainly not recommend taking children along to THAI SILK on such seasonal occasions (due to the wait), nor would I suggest an expectation of a quick meal before a movie deadline. Pop along mid-week and you should be pleasantly surprised at the quick delivery of meals. Overall I still rate this eatery as one of the more pleasant dining experiences in Hawke's Bay, provided one is prepared to allow for seasonal difficulties in timely meal deliveries.

Delicious food with a wide selection on the menu - great service, minimum wait, nice atmosphere. This is a favourite - never been disappointed.

We also dined Mother's Day evening and yes they were extremely busy as you would expect on Mother's Day and if they weren't busy you would wonder why!!! The waitresses were very pleasant and were working very hard to attend all the tables. Yes there was a long wait for meals but as I said they were full. I would suggest a more fast food restaurant for families with children who need to eat fast on these type of special nights. Great restaurant, great staff and AMAZING food would recommend to all. Thanks Thai silk for another great evening.

We booked and went to dine here for Mother's Day (today). Six of us arrived at 5.30pm, we were served 15 minutes later by a not very friendly waitress. We ordered a simple entree and our mains. Entree came out quick (simple, easy roti breads which weren't cooked properly). <br/>However, we waited an hour and a half with no staff advising us of any delay or offering drinks. I asked how long away our meals were, and was finally advised they were just finishing off another table then ours were next to be cooked! We had had enough of waiting by then, my kids especially were fidgety and hungry. It was past their bedtime (hence why I booked early!). We paid for drinks and entree and left. We were not the only table. Two other big groups left at the same time because of the wait! They ruined our Mother's Day!

Fortunately Thai Hutt was closed so we went across the road to Thai Silk. From the moment we walked in we were impressed, - beautiful decor, extremely clean and tidy and well presented staff. The wait staff were very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We had a fabulous meal, fresh ingredients and very tasty. We will return!

I have eaten at the Thai silk 20+ times and have never had a bad meal, sometimes service is a little slow but the food is always great. Would definitely recommend it!

My husband and I have eaten at Thai Silk many times. The food has always been good and nice and hot. Service has always been pleasant and fast (never have had to wait very long at all). Very enjoyable.

It was a terrible end to a birthday for me, after ordering over the phone we were told it would take 40 minutes to be ready. Arriving there 60 minutes later to pick it up, we were told it was not ready and in fact had not yet been started. We were then instructed that it would be started immediately and take 15 minutes. 45 minutes later we walked out with the food.<br/><br/>Extremely disappointed with not only the very long time it took to prepare, but at the portion sizes as well. <br/><br/>Definitely not going there again as this is our 2nd bad experience and wouldnt recommend it.

Unfortunately we believe this restaurant is under new management yet cant say for sure! We were recommended by family, yet were advised that the place had had a recent refit. This is Xmas 12. We were not served by any Thai, Kiwis in Thai outfits! Suffice to say, we were very disappointed and would not return here! <br/>As soon as the taste of old oil on the prawn entree (overfried too) we should have taken note and left!<br/>The request for a fish dish without it being deep fried was not able to be offered! The crispy pork was so dried out and fried to beyond a joke and served in a gluggy sauce that congealed on the plate as we ate! The chicken dish was bland and not the usual Thai delight unfortunately. So very very poor!

Only had takeaways from here, food is nice, took 15-20 minutes wait, decently priced. Only drawback is non microwave safe containers for leftovers

We go to thai silk takeaways alot, their curries are the best thai curries in hastings - we've tried many many other takeaway places. We have been into the restaurant 1ce last year and it was just as good - even more selections! We got our food very quickly and they were lovely. We were finished and on our way in just an hour!

It's unfortunate about the poor reviews people have posted earlier, I have dined here twice and thoroughly enjoyed it both times<br/><br/>I definitely recommend the banquets / set menus, great for tables of 4 or more so you get a taste of everything.<br/>We live in Napier so don't often dine in Hastings but definitely recommend to others

We had a wonderful evening at Thai Silk with neighbours recently. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the food tasty and beautifully cooked. Our second visit to Thai Silk and this one just as good as the first.

I got the Pad Thai with chicken, very average, all the chicken was at the bottom so initially i thought there was no chicken. <br/><br/>Also I got a king prawn chilli dish that was an oily mess.

Worst service ever! So freaking slow! Took 45 minutes for our entrees to arrive and then another 45 minutes for our mains. Very disappointed. Food was pretty good, but portions were very small and the curries were very watery. Horrible place to go for dinner.
