Fabulous food. The chowder was incredible, the garlic mussels so tasty and the staff were delightful. So pleasant to sit outside on the cool day in the sunshine and enjoy the peace and quiet whilst eating delicious food
Very fresh mussels and recommend to have a taste.
Extra mussel is $2 each. We only ordered half dozen, should have ordered the whole dozen. Love them, the staff are very friendly and nice too. The chowder is very creamy and rich.
We came back again fo next day,tried another restaurant called “Mussel Pot” decided to come back, I do recommend Mills Bay , best grilled mussels in town.😊
Great service, location and food! I really enjoyed the mussel tasting platter and I would recommend anyone driving though Havelock to stop and check it out yourself👍
Very nice local mussels, it almost makes you feel like eating seafood overseas. Just too expensive, considering 12 mussels (1kg) for $22 (which used to be $18.5, still expansive)(and can buy at $5/kg in Christchurch). A fair price would be no more than half of the current one.

Absolutely mind blowing experience, the mussels are so fresh and so good, I actually changed my opinion on mussel in general, it made me enjoy and love eating mussels. Their freshest mussels taste tender, even a little crispy no less, their food is something I often miss when not having it.
Ps, be aware of their very limited business hours, only a few hours (basically lunch time only) on a few days in a week, so do your homework before going, to avoid any disappointment.

Been here a number of times. The food is always delicious, good mussels and some raw options at times. Oysters and mussels are always fresh and tasty. The croquettes are the best!! Highly recommend this and they’ve changed the bread they are served on which is a game changer. We’ve tried most of the stuff on the menu and all of it was well prepared.
Staff are friendly but food generally takes a while if there are a few people. Worth the wait but just be prepared we normally aways wait 20-30 mins.
Yet another top score spot for Chasing a Plate. This place has stunning food. What a beautiful lunch in the sun. By far the way best mussels in Havelock - (the mussel capital of the world). We had the tasting platter and grilled garlic mussels. Every mouthful was delicious and we can't wait to return. Thai curry mussels were our favourite - but all were amazing. The ONLY place to get mussels in Havelock - Mills Bay!! ... and their FISH is totally amazing - have had better chips - but their fish is simply superb!! Mussel chowder is superb.
Only downside - Seating for customers is limited to a few really uncomfortable metal stools. A few outdoor tables and chairs would make a huge difference.
Freshest mussels ever I have tasted. 5 out of 5 is not enough. It is the best place of its kind in NZ. Loved to see their pride and passion about mussels. 👍 👍

Great little place with fresh, creatively cooked, delicious mussels! Should definitely stop by if you get the chance. The curry/satay and garlic butter mussels were a highlight for us. This place definitely deserves a lot more attention!
