I would just like to say a special thanks to Simon and Kate from Shads Restaurant for a wonderful afternoon hosting our service club. We were a group of about 80 persons and Shads accommodated us specially on a Sunday afternoon.
Due to staff illness they were short handed but they never let it show, I have never seen a family work harder or faster together in my life. The food was delicious hot and plenty of it . The new premises are fantastic and beautifully set out. It's evident you put your heart and soul into what you do. Keep it up guys!!!!
Good variety of foods with clearly labeled allergy alerts (gluten-free, dairy free). Good variety of deserts, too.
There were booths, big long tables for big parties and smaller tables.
The waitresses were very attentive, and plates were cleared almost immediately.
Price was reasonable and felt accurate at $42.50 for adults and around $16 for our eight year old.
There is a bar at extra costs.
There were clean toilets.
Overall, a recommended outing.

Went tonight for the American themed buffet. I have an 8 month old and I was taking her food with her but they were very accomodating. Staff also dressed in theme which was neat!
Staff were friendly and regularly cleared tables, there wasn’t a point where plates were piling up which isn’t the case with places like Marbles. One of our party is American, and his partner has also lived in America and they both thought the chefs did a great job! Variety of food was great - brisket, wings, drumsticks, hotdogs, cheeseburgers and a selection of slices, hot apple pie, custard etc. The onion rings and fried chicken were big favourites at our table! Cocktail was on the pricier side, but it was also massive compared to your usual tiny ones you get at restaurants so worth the money. For $50 it was a great dinner! Overall, we’d go again!
I am from Wellington and my son and I treated my brother and his 5 kids to dinner at Shads.
Prior to booking in, I looked up at the reviews and found some to be quite negative but we wanted to try it out anyway.
I can say that we absolutely enjoyed it and it is an awesome family restaurant.
The staff are friendly, helpful and polite.
There was plenty of space, a variety of food and dessert selection and the kids gave it 2 thumbs up.
Looking forward to going again when we are back in Hawera.
I would suggest for those who gave negative reviews to go back, maybe they would have a more pleasant experience.
If Shads were in Wellington, it would definitely be my go to restaurant.

been twice now, both time food was amazing- for La cart, inside is very nice and warm, great for kids as well.
only let down was the wait between drinks. would of spent way more on drinks if had come around faster. other then that food was really good and you get what you pay for. will be back again- would just order 2 drinks at a time lol
Spend is high for us but that's because we try everything and drink alot.

Had menu dining. Beautiful meals. Quite expensive, but worth waiting for. Chef is fantastic. Lovely new place. Great Cafe during day, decaf coffee too!! Choices of cabinet food are priced really well. Lovely u can go after work for coffee and cake tue-sunday.
Came to shads tonight for first time since the new one opened. Absolutely loved the whole lot. Food was beautiful, we will deffintly be back again
