Review Gold Star Bakery - Hillcrest

I must say Gold Star Bakery has literally THE BEST egg sandwich ever. Cold from the chiller and just like mom makes. I'll definitely go back for this new favourite.

Good selection of food at reasonable prices. However, prices have definitely crept up in the last 12 months - about 2 years ago this place was the cheapest on the shore. Not anymore though. Pies and sausage rolls are usually good, although every now and again you get a bad batch. Sweet treats are nice but I don’t rate the bakery items (buns, rolls, etc) as they sit out in the open all day, usually with flies around. Place is pretty dirty and could do with a good clean. Overall, a nice local bakery.

Tasty pies and well priced .... filled rolls and filled croissants are filling and priced well . Bakery selection is full of all the goodys. Would recommend for the feeds

Great selection of food always something there. Parking is usually almost right in front of the door.

Local bakery there's a great range of food items that you can choose from.

I walk past here during my lunch break. I like the variety of food offered, the savouries and not a bad price either. Fast service, no waiting.

Probably my favorite bakery on the shore. Pesto pizza bread is awesome. Coffees are good and the steak, jalapeño and cheese pies are nectar. 👌

Got a Chicken Cranberry and Bree Pie, chicken was soft and beautiful, and finished with a slice of their banana slice. $2.50 for a big slice and tastes like nanas banana cake 🥰

I was introduced to this well priced bakery with excellent food in Sunnybrae by my FBIL (Favourite Brother In Law) around 2012; and have been visiting ever since.😛 Yes; they really do have the best Pepper Steak pies and yummy Custard pies.🍮 Highly recommended. 😊 Dec 2022 As per many days, I went again today and can absolutely verify that their Pies are The Best! My Favs are the Pepper Steak followed by the Curried Chicken and... Big Hint: These piquant pies are made with Flaky Pastry; so best to NOT eat them in your car. 🚗

Great food very busy

Mainly buy pies from them. Excellent range. Have tried their filled rolls, cakes and all top notch. You would have to be extremely picky not to find something you liked. Having consumed over 400 of their pies I guess I like them. Just did a trip to Brisbane. Their pies are expensive and they are rubbish. They should come to New Zealand and learn.

I like the feta and spinach pie, hot cross buns are good to.

I have a massive soft-spot for Gold Star Bakery as they are seemingly the only bakery on the Shore (or at least the only one I have found) who still make chocolate crackles. A couple of months ago, we went on a giant crackle hunt from the Hibiscus Coast to the Harbour Bridge and just as I was starting to lose all hope, Gold Star came to the rescue. Of course, since this discovery we have been back many times - their crackles are the stars of the show (in my eyes at least), but their other food is also well worth a visit. In particular, their butter chicken pie is another reason we keep coming back and they have a great selection of filled rolls as well.  They also have an insane range of desserts and treats, from all your usual classics to more custom creations. GSB have quickly become one of our favourite bakeries on the Shore. Please don't stop making the crackles!

I am one of the workers at the shop and just to not let any customers get confused with the prices that has been changed awhile back i will list them down now. All the pies are $3.50 each with plain steak and mince being only $3.00 while all the sweet slices are $2.00. Our prices may vary next year but please don't ask us to give you the same price of what you have seen on the menu listed in the website because a few customers has forcefully demanded the prices they saw on here. thank you.

Hands down, the best bakery in Auckland. Well-packed fresh sandwiches, meaty pies, coffee and real cream donuts. All at a great price. Do it!

It has good sandwiches, muffins and other bread. At really good price. But doesn't sell coffee and closes too early. It would be nice that they will close at 6pm.
