Highly recommend and although you warned me can't guarantee 100% gluten free as you also prepare gluten food in same area I was not glutened and are sensitive so was worth the risk �! Very impressed you used a seperate chopping board for gluten free! And the staff are very friendly and welcoming!
Had the chicken sandwich and it was fantastic! What was even better was the service, not often that you go to a place where you feel so welcome! I am not from hokitika and was only getting a sandwich to take away and I was welcomed in and asked where I was going to even though they were really busy, the way the customers were spoken to and the charisma of the man making the sandwiches was not only entertaining but such an uplifting environment. I will definitely be back to this place whenever I can get to Hokitika! Would love a sandwich shop like this in the north island. Thank you for your kind service �
OUTSTANDING sandwiches. We grabbed the Coaster for lunch and the ingredients were so fresh and vibrant, tucked in beautifully soft bread. A full managed to be the perfect amount for us to share. Refillable coffee with a board telling you where the beans are from and its notes. Really lovely staff who make an effort to remember names and a great local-feeling atmosphere. HIGHLY recommend to anyone passing through/staying in Hokitika.
Best sandwich I've had in NZ. Had a veggie half thinking I'd eat it and move on. It was so good that I had to have another half. Chose the med special, also amazing. Highly recommend. Staff were lovely too.
This is a very unique place indeed. Joseph the owner has knowledge to burn. The atmosphere is great and options in sandwiches to burn as well. Can eat in or take away. Don’t ask for a expresso or Flat white as they have filter coffee only but coffee that is changed weekly and is from different places from around the world, but is made in nz. Look at the photos especially the Real Food black board that explains everything about this place.
Amazing sandwiches (better than hyped places we’ve tried in Auckland). Got ‘The Beef’ and ‘The New Yorker’, loved both. Fresh ingredients and great staff. Worth the 30 min wait.
Sandwiches are fresh and tasty, you can really taste each element of the dish and they’re all really good. The portions are really generous too, I think a half sandwich is more than enough to feed one with decent appetite. However, given it’s popularity, it’s a bit of a long wait (45 mins), but the staff would ask you to go walk around the town and come back later, which is nice. Do check it out if you’re in Hokitika as it is the most famous place in this small town.
Incredible. Super fresh and very tasty. Great vibes and not a long wait time at all on a rainy day. Dine-in and takeaway possible. Would easily come again to try out all their other sandwiches and milkshakes.
I understand the fuss about this place, the sandwiches are amazing! Freshly made and the ingredients are perfect. All of the options sound great. Decent portions too...half was enough for me! Definitely going again.
Great and big portion. We should have just ordered 1.5 for both of us. The ambience is nice. Could feel the staff are working happily. Super friendly and polite.

This was the best sandwich I've had all year and definitely the best sandwich I've had in New Zealand. My partner and I were traveling through, and stopped just by chance and were so excited we came back the next day! The staff was so friendly and helpful, we ordered more then we could eat and they helped us pick the better sandwich to take with us, plus wrapped it up for us. I would fly back to New Zealand for this sandwich alone.
I highly recommend stopping by to try their sandwiches! We arrived 10 minutes before they opened and they told us we could wait inside while they finished preparing everything. The food is delicious and with fresh ingredients. And for my part, thank you for trying to communicate in Spanish, understanding that my English is not the best! Graciass 😊
