When visiting Kawakawa have a coffee at the fabulous Railway station Cafe. Wonderful home baking, try the banana and chocolate muffins. Enjoy views of the vintage railway and the beautiful garden at the back. Your purchases will support the Vintage Railway Trust to continue their good work restoring this historic railway.

Set in a former railway station in Kawakawa, now a heritage railway site, the decor is funky historic.
I ordered a latte and they offered to make it for me in a glass. Perfect.
Their cabinet food is amazing. Some wonderful slices. And the blackboard menu is distinctly Kiwi, but the helpings are enormous!
And the service was fabulous. Warm, friendly with heaps of arohaa.

Very delicious food at a decent price, I really love the homemade fries.. the beef patty in the burger was delicious all I can suggest is add a tomato to the burger as well... Otherwise highly recommend and nice staff also

We were there about 20 mins before a train left and it had a bit of a nice busy train station feel, with families sorting out tickets and guards grabbing a quick coffee. The only problem was service a bit slow. A happy place.
food was good but easily replicated at home. Service was great. Pretty trains.
I love the Railway Station Cafe. I often stop on my way through Kawakawa. Easy parking, nice tables inside and out, great food and such lovely staff.
A cute former railway station which has been turned in to a cafe serving the usual suspects.
We only ordered a couple of snacks so csnt comment on the food too much but what we did get was tasty and good value. Their iced coffee was pretty perfect.
The cafe has a slightly weird make up on the inside, if seems a former railway station doesn't make for a simple cafe conversion but once you find your way to the counter and order there is adequate indoor seating and a tonne of space on the platform.
If you're lucky you may even get to see a train come and go as we did.

Standard fare and drinks available. Visited around 15:00 on a week day and kitchen was closed, only drinks and cabinet foods available. We were only after drinks so not a problem for us.
Chocolate cap was delicious and beautifully poured. Partner enjoyed his banana milkshake.
Clean toilets, no wifi, and plenty of seating; there are a couple of tables inside and several outside under an awning so would be nice even in the rain.
No steps so wheelchair and pram accessible.
