Review Ichiban Teppanyaki - Lower Hutt

Great food Great service highly recommend it 👍 These guys understand that it means to provide top experience and services at the reasonable and fair price. We have been back here more than 10 times over the last 8 years and I can truly say every time I look forward to the next time. Bringing friends and family with is always fun because you get to witness the joy and fun that comes with the food here and there are also many photo opportunities with the fire and the throwing of the eggs and the rice bowls. If you are in Wellington, this place is a must visit for the food.

Overall enjoyed the food, watching the chef cooking our selections fresh etc. Just a pity they served our entrees after our main meal.

All of the food I had here was delicious! I loved it so much! My family, my older brother's girlfriend and I came here for my older brother's birthday and it was awesome! The staff were very friendly and our chef was incredible! My brother didn't catch the rice but he caught the egg perfectly(The rice went all over the table🤣) I love this place and it's definitely in my top three favorite restaurants of all time! I will definitely recommend this place to all my friends and will certainly be coming back here again! Thank you so much for a great experience!

It looks tame outside, but the inside decoration is so Japanese and atmosphere is welcoming and cozy. The BBQ is juicy and fresh, recommended the tempura even the tempura ice cream !! The fire show is fancy ! Good value of the money.

Soooo fun, when they get to try and catch an egg in a bowl (which i managed todo, i caught it in the small bowl), they also ask you if you would like to catch a small bowl of rice in a rice bowl in a bowl in which you hold in your hands (i couldn't do it, i couldn't catch the small bowl of rice in an empty rice bowl in which i held in my hands)

The Greatest Restaurant in the Hutt, maybe Wellington. Im so disappointed I've just found this place when it's been going for years. It's an experience, heaps of fun, and the food is great, Just don't wear white.

We found the food rather ordinary and lacks flavour. The positive is that the BBQ dishes are made in front of you so it’s fresh. Other than that, the food is a bit pricey and the dishes are not very large. The price reflects the entertainment rather than the quality of the food. <br/><br/>We had no issues with the service.

Always a pleasure dining here, have been going for years. I’ve never tried any of the main meals, but have tried multiple Set Menus and always enjoyed them. Tried the Seafood Set Menu tonight, was boss AF! I think the price is reasonable and reflects the quality and service.

Very cool atmosphere! And the dinner entertainment is awsome. This place is awsome, really stands out in the hutt as a unique way to dine. Only thing i can fault is the price. Its a little expensive considering there is the possibility of leaving still hungry like i did. All in all though i would recommend if you have never been before to go and enjoy the experience.

Such a unique dining experience, and is most enjoyable when you are with a group of friends or family. The food is delicious, however portion sizes are a bit small. Overall, great experience.

Very different dining experience from most places.<br/>Set meals and certain dishes are cooked right in front of you and some are interactive where you catch an egg or throw the chef something. Very unique and entertaining. As for the food, it all tastes good, cooked well and have good portions.<br/>Prices are a bit high but you pay for the experience as well as the food.<br/>Great overall experience and would definitely recommend.

First time at this kind of place. Totally worth getting a babysitter for 😉 the chef interacted well with the customers, made us laugh - it scripted for sure but still ran smoothly. <br/>No need to bring your winter woolies here!

This place must have new owners. We haven't been for a number of years but went recently and it's is so bad now. Presentation is terrible. My 7 year old daughter makes better sushi at home. Rice like clay glue and just no care. Random bits cut this way and that way and all over the place. Looked like a dog's breakfast. Such a shame as it used to be okay.

After we all ordered we were then told they had no fish! This ruled out every Entree except spring rolls! <br/>We then tried ordering Mains and were then told they had no lamb (among other things) so all we got was chicken. <br/>There was no compensation for not getting the other meat dishes on the Set Menu, no apology, the Waiter was rude, did not clear any dirty dishes, refused to supply water and had very poor English. <br/>Going to a Japanese Restaurant and being told they have no fish would be like going to an Indian Restaurant and being told they have no curry, or a Steak Restaurant with no steak!<br/>I asked for the Manager but he/she never fronted up.<br/>We have been here many times over the years but will never return, or recommend to anyone. It is an absolute disgrace.

We brought the Groupon deal for our very first teppanyaki experience and we were happy with the choice. Our meat selection of squid, prawns, steak and chicken were all fresh, tasty and cooked perfectly. Possibly could have a tad larger portion of each of the meats or just make sure your not starving when you go. Otherwise enjoyed our dinner and would go again!

Went here last night. Terrible service and value for $. Food not great either. Pretty bland and average. The chef on the grill was entertainment but didn't make up for the tasteless food. I could make better at home lol. Not a very nice restaurant. Won't be going there again.

This place is revolting. You need to look at the photos I've uploaded of the sushi we got. Keep in mind, this is supposed to be resturant quality Japanese. It USED to be good. It must have changed hands or something because its a joke now.<br/>We are a family with young children so rarely go out or get takeaway. It was my husband's birthday so we thought we'd have a treat. The takeaway was supposed to take 20 mins- it took 50. Kids and husband waiting in the car...<br/><br/>Next thing- check the bags, missing one dish. Omgoodness, I was about to flip my lid having to wait so long. Went back, explained I'd been charged $20 for a sashimi which was missing. He argued with me and insisted on seeing the bill...<br/><br/>I was tearing up by this point. Kids and hubby in the car, 2 year old needing to go to bed...<br/><br/>Get home, open the containers. HIDEOUS.. this place was really boutique in terms of sushi/sashimi a year or so ago.<br/><br/>I should have ordered mass produced Pierre's from the mall.<br/><br/>DO NOT waste your money! Our dinner cost $95. NEVER AGAIN.<br/><br/>P.s. The place is sadly filthy now. So different to what is was a year or so ago. The floors are slippery and dirty and the fish tanks are dirty. I was watching the poor fish as I was patiently waiting for our dinner and the tank was empty apart from a couple of fake bits of plastic- these people just don't get it. I lived in Japan for 7 years and understand the importance of beauty and attention to detail.<br/><br/>This place is a joke. I'm really upset I wasted $95.

if i could rate this place any lower i would. So to begin with asked the server if what i was going to order would be filling considering i was paying 28 bux for it she said it would be for sure i am used to this being said to me and being disappointed so i ordered an extra rice all up 33 bux. the guys makes the food in front of us that was pretty cool don't get me wrong but for 33 bux i could of gone to an all you can eat buffet and got the same rice and noodles only for half the price and as much quantity as i wanted it did not taste that different and it was actually so over sweetened that i could not finish my noodles only had the rice with a small piece of meat. then here is the kicker, the guy does a trick were he throws an egg and im expected to catch it throws it, it breaks and i get egg all over my new $100 pants i bought two days before honestly i was speechless. over all food was below average "entertainment" was below poor considering i came in for food and left with egg white all over my pants and an empty stomach. Ended going to KFC and getting chicken, NEVER EVER WILL I SET FOOT IN THIS PLACE AGAIN. highly do not recommend it. PS i really should of took notice and ran when i saw some other people who had just finished their meal leave with their plates still half full....sorry for the long post but i am extremely mad about my pants

We are from Auckland and now I will spend my time to share my worst Japanese dining experience ever!!! Honest and Sincere!!!!!<br/>I ordered 50 dollars seafood combo and my husband ordered salmon sashimi and raw seafood sushi<br/>First we had the sashimi and honestly that was ok compared with other following dishes, the salmon was a bit unfresh and we can taste it but like I said that was fine. <br/>Then we had sushi. OMG the rice seems cooked over one day and they are very sticky and disgusting seems like sour rotten rice cake and we ate the seafood on top with washabi and soy sauce. And that cost us 14 dollars for thin pieces of seafood. <br/>Ok here let's talk about their well-known teppanyaki. <br/>We waited almost half an hour for chef showed up after our drinks were given. The chef seems very unpleasant and inhopistal for cooking us food and he brought this black FULL of old stains and granulated clothes to set the stove with oil and used frequently to clean the dishes after they are ready. I mean COME ON, Ichihan, don't you guys just hire a professional cleaner to wash the clothes and rinse them well? That was totally uncomfortable and disgusting to observing everything while I was eating. My husband also puked. The chef explained the clothes are NEW and CLEAN, they said all the others are the SAME. JESUS guys, if you noticed the same or even think about it that clothes contain millions of germs and stuffs were adust over serval times. <br/>Ok now I will talk about the food. They are all too salty. Basically the teppanyaki seafood are tasteless, they put as much as salt and soy sauce to cover the unfreshness and over cooked. <br/>There are some little things too we were totally unhappy about like the coke we ordered there was no sparkling or bubbles donno whether they opened the can for too long or they just bought a large coke and put it so long and the seafood miso soup, the shrimps were still half raw half cooked in my bowl (eeew, that still made me wanna throw up if you can see how disgusting they were). <br/>Seriously!!!! This dining experience is full of disgusting and awful. We noticed the season a lot of costumers came here because Ichiban are doing coupon and voucher online. However we spent 87 with full payment and had such horrible time. <br/>Just an advise, if you love Japanese food or Japanese style teppanyaki and also you are just happened to be in Auckland. There are a place called Daikoku, the CRAYFISH combo is only 59 dollars with much bigger, delicious, fresher and variety of food and good service and wonderful experience. Nobody paid me anything or give us benefits for saying anything above. Just an honest expression of what I had today and that cost us almost 90 dollars for two people. OMG please don't go this place if you don't have COUPONs<br/><br/>And you are very welcome.

I love coming to this restaurant. The food is simply amazing, their takoyaki is my absolute favourite, the ingredients are always fresh and prepared to perfection. Excellent customer service, staffs are friendly, helpful and patient when it comes to big crowds. Highly recommend.

Really nice place !!! Great service and entertaining, awesome food. The Orange Roughy fish and flame steak is beautful, also the size of the prawn is very big. I love the entertainment their and it is a great please for a party.

I dine here more than most of my favourite restaurants. It is clean, fresh food. Made with love from very entertaining bunch of chefs. The owners have restaurants in the city and in Lower Hutt- next to United Video. I love that everything is consistent....quality, friendly, moderately priced. Their BYO policy is a bonus. I go here alone or with friends and always feel welcome.

Entertaining and enjoyable. My first time at a Japanese restaurant and I loved it. The food was great, we had a fabulous dinner. Would definitely go back.

My experience here was a first and a last. The food was flavourless and wouldn't even be able to satisfy the hunger of an ANT let alone a human being. The soup was practically unedible, it had seperated and tasted foul. However the only thing that i enjoyed was the service and the salad. Overall I would strongly advise to save your money and not dine here!

We enjoyed a delicious meal here, we really enjoyed the food and entertainment, also a yummy (and potent) Kamikaze cocktail! It was our first time experiencing teppanyaki and we enjoyed every minute of it. Our favourite was the steak cooked with red wine and garlic – so tender and juicy. The fried rice was the best we have tasted! Everything tastes so hot and fresh as you are eating it seconds after it comes off the hotplate. Loved it.

The food was fantastic, the service was great, and the price was fairly reasonable for what you got out of it. <br/><br/>I would definitely go again, it was a fantastic experience.

We love this place and go as often as we can. The food is fabulous and the staff are really friendly and entertaining. They look after the kids and everyone has a great time. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because the toilets could do with better cleaning.

Awesome food, great service and entertaining. Would highly recommend if you are after a tasty meal, quite simply the best in the Hutt Valley. I have been here a number of times now and the food is always consistent, absolutely no nasty surprises at Ichiban.

Well the outside certainly lets it down. Inside, this place is fantastic! What an awesome experience. Darn good fun, worth taking the whole family. Very entertaining and its surprising how filling the food is. It was cooked beautifully, the chefs are very talented, they have made the presentation of food a true art. Will become a regular!

I love this place!!! Friendly chefs and amazing food. Everything is so delicious. We visit it really often and are always impressed. Going with the in-laws next week - I'm sure they'll love it too!

This has to be the best value for food and entertainment yet!. The food is something that you would expect in a award winning restaurant . Everything melts in your mouth!!. I have not tried better squid anywhere else in the world. These guys have nailed the art of cooking to perfection and it keeps it interesting for the kids, watching the chef at work. Every time I want to impress people I take them here.Prices are good, service is great and you get a free show.Great food well prepared and they are just to friendly.Highly recommended on my list .Reason I don't give 5 stars I would have liked a bigger variety.But very entertaining

I'm a chef, and have dined at Ichiban on several occasions. The food is delicious, and the service is friendly and entertaining, as they flick and flip the food on the hot plate in front of you. Highly recommend it as a great dining experience.

Thought the food and the way that it was prepared was amazing! Was really entertaining and makes for a great group dining experience. The staff there are also very polite.

My experience with this place has been confined to take-out, and that has been limited to sashimi.<br/><br/>We have enjoyed the sashimi here and would certainly suggest that if looking for sashimi in the Hutt that you give this place a try.<br/><br/>There is a comprehensive menu with dishes from all over Asia. I am afraid that I cannot report on these. <br/><br/>Pricing for sashimi is fair and looks OK for other menu items as well.<br/><br/>Each time the sashimi has been freshly prepared and does not appear to have been stored.
