Review Zampelles Tea & Coffee Shop - Lower Hutt

Everything was delicious and well cooked. Service was also great. Will definitely come back here again. Soooo worth it and would definitely recommend. Update Oct 2022: Still 5 stars. Consistently great food and service 👌🏼

Went to Zamprlles Lower Hutt yesterday. Apart from the usual good service there was the loveliest young man bringing out food/clearing tables and sweeping floors. He was so cheerful and polite and as we were leaving wished us a nice rest of day and hoped to see us again. He would be an asset to any business.

Such friendly service and great meal. I had bacon and eggs on toast and was impressed with the serving size. My teen had French toast and staff were happy to make a small tweak to his order.

Food was delish, service was great. The french toast had more bacon but bestie ate some of it before i could get a pic of it LOL

I have visited this Cafe often, over many years, when visiting the region. A variety of wonderful food is on offering; both hot and cold beverages and sweet and savoury food. It's usually always busy, especially around lunchtime. Because of a rise in cost of living, the prices have also risen.

Love this place. I am fussy with coffee but this coffee 10/10. Food really good.

Today I had my 1st visit to Zampelles in Queensgate Lower Hutt my husband insisted we should eat there S he has been a few times before. This is the cleanest well organised eating place I have been to in Wellington I highly recommend this place just to have coffee too Excellent staff & serivice to. We have a Zampelles in Johnsonville absolutely no comparison. See you again Queensgate. ✅

This is our favorite place for Sunday brunch. Their chips are the best in town. We used to always come here for chips. Unfortunately today's one are really soft, not crispy at all and looked sad. When I told one of their lady staff, she was very kind and took the food back to ask if there's anything they could do. Then the chef came out and very kindly explained the situation that their supplier somehow couldn't supply the nice chips. Which I totally understand as I work in a food place where this kinda situation happens all the time. They offered us refund. I'll say it's a really nice experience seeing how they handle this situation really well with very nice attitude. Hopefully you guys can have the nice chips back and we'll definitely come back every Sunday for the best chips ever.❤️

The staff and service here is really lovely. I came in for brunch and ordered the mince on toast and a green smoothie. The green smoothie was delicious and a great size but the mince on toast was a bit of a let down as it tasted like they had taken the same filling from a meat pie and put it on some toast. I recommend they consider adjusting the recipe a bit. Their cabinet food also looked very tasty and it's a nice place to go after shopping at the mall.

Amazing service, food and vibes!! This cafe is an absolute 10/10. Went here to meet up with some friends and was amazed!! I had the avo on toast and the ingredients were so fresh, beautiful soft bread, zesty haloumi and the best avo smash i’ve ever had. The coffee was exceptional and the service impeccable. The friendly staff and fast service here really make this cafe worth a visit! (also would recommend grabbing a few treats from their cabinet on your way out!)

I have used this outlet for a number of years and always thought them overpriced.   However I recently had cause to complain that a food item was mislabeled and instantly bought an argument with the boss.  He finally followed me back to my table and offered a replacement but the damage was done by then.  Will not be going there again.

Really lovely food and coffee, however the service is really lacking. Whenever I go in there I feel like they don’t want me there and no smiles or anything. I’ve been in customer service for many years now and hospitality and it’s just unacceptable

Zampelles has got to be my favourite cafe the staff are brilliant after being away from New Zealand for the last two years I could not wait to go there again the staff were the same and they even remembered that I am a smoker they said we will bring it outside to me in the same table I sat in every morning for about 5 years

Had a lovely experience the staff were very friendly, the food was delicious and the prices were a bit high, but definitely worth it. Would definitely recommend this as a breakfast spot.

Was having a coffee and sitting in a corner by myself, working on my laptop. I was sharing the set of 3 tables together with another group of customers at first. After an hour or so, the cafe had been mostly empty for some time now but I was approached and told off for only having one purchase and for staying for more than an hour. He was very displeased with me and told me that this was a 'place of business' and 'not a meeting place'. He also told me off for being there the previous day and causing his staff to leave work late. I was there until a little before 6pm, which is the closing time and there were other customers. I would have left earlier if I was asked to as well. <br/>Very unwelcoming and poor service from this man (although the regular staff were friendly).

Just a fantastic cafe to visit. I perused the cabinets which to my delight, I found the most delicious chocolate and caramel slice. Just to die for if you ask me. I would even consider giving my left arm for it. The customer service is lovely. There are 2 young boys that look like they're about 16 years old. Just the most lovely boys. They both make very delicious coffees. However, I think the girl on dining room forgot to sweep the carpet making me cringe at the lack of cleanliness. Overall, the experience was stunning and being in my late 120's it was the perfect atmosphere.

Lovely cafe .gorgeous food and fast service. Never knew they were here as little hidden in the corner but worth the visit. Freshly baked muffins were amazing.

The service is just the worst. Food is flavorless and overpriced. I don't mind that much about the food but the service is so poor at the point that I wouldn't go even if someone pays me for that.

Time to kill at Queesngate so ventured back for an Ultimate breakfast and a mocha. Twenny bucks all up and great value for the money.The meal was good -  eggs nicely cooked, a decent wad of bacon and two small decent sausages to accompany the hash browns and toast. The meal isn't looking for a Michelen star, however it is great value when the pricing structure is considered. The cafe was reasonably busy and in my late-40's I was the youngest there. It was pension day and they seem to have their target market well tied down - fixed incomes looking for simple well-cooked food at the right price.The mocha was also one of the better ones I've had of late, and I've had a few. Maybe they've taken on board feedback.

Went here for brunch this morning with my mum. We both had coffee and shared a piece of carrot cake. The service was nice and quick and the staff are lovely! My coffee was nice, but not the nicest and the cake was amazing!

Worst customer treatment I have ever experienced. Treated like dogs, physically harassed by owner, then bucket of water thrown on us, by owner. Only bought a coffee and a pie? Don't sit in their seating, that no one ever uses because you'll be physically assaulted and have a bucket of dirty water thrown on you. Don't eat here, the owner's a right fool. I hope he goes out of business you piece of shit. If he'd asked us to leave normally and treated us like human beings, then I would've been fine with it. But you sir, are scum on the earth. <br/> <br/>

A convenient cafe, but not somewhere I have been tempted to eat. Lacks ambiance and character. Tables small and too close together. Coffee adequate in my view, but not outstanding. Opens early though which is in their favour.

I have been here many many times and haven't had any bad experiences. I LOVE the lemon muffins. Especially the fresh, hot ones! They are to die for. I always want to eat 3 a day and they are just delicious I rate 5/5 yum!!!! Definitely go back. :)

Today we opted for the ultimate breakfast & poached eggs on toast. Basic but cooked properly. Better than the Johnsonville Zampelles.

I have been here on a number of occasions and haven't had any bad experiences. Just be aware that this place is very busy with a lot of noise and limited spacing. I doubt you'd find a better mince and cheese pie, definately worth hiking over town for. Coffee is good, but again no wow factor. Find milkshakes a bit tasteless, needs more flavour, but it could just depend on who you get serving you. Staff are always ready to serve you. They also make a great cream cheese, chives & bacon muffin as it has plenty of cream cheese.

An overall appalling experience.<br/>Hygiene, coffee and service are all lacking in standard. The staff are generally friendly, though they are far from helpful when you ask for extra utensils or napkins.<br/>The coffee was served in a cold cup, the crema was very thin and the body of the espresso was bland.

This cafe is very convenient. Went in for the first time last week and the staff is very friendly. I ordered a mocha and their cups are humongous so it was a treat! I also had the paninis and it was divine. With the adding of green salad to the panini was a bonus as it didn't make me feel guilty but overall the food was divine and to go with it all a chocolate cake.<br/><br/>Despite the cafe jammed packed it was very good and I would like to continue my visits there.<br/><br/>Bon apetite

This place can best be summarized as simply appalling; the staff consistently lack compassion and fail to keep general hygiene standards on their service. During ‘quiet hours’, this is especially unacceptable; however, this service has not improved over the duration of 2 years. Recommend the service of any other food place in the Queensgate area.<br/><br/>Thank you for noting that “non-customers” are those folks in the process of considering ordering from the menu WHILE waiting for public transport.

Will not go again. This is the second time they forgot my order. Not the best place, but handy.<br/>Today they weren't busy and ordered a coffee while I waited for a friend. The 2 tables by the window were dirty so I moved the clutter and sat watching for my friend. <br/>Staff were standing around talking.<br/><br/>Twenty mins later and another woman had received her coffee so asked where mine was. They had forgotten...again.<br/><br/>I was told if I hadn't sat at a dirty table they would have bought it to me. But...I wanted to watch for my friend and put the number clearly so they could see. Why aren't tables cleaned.?? They weren't busy. <br/> No apology at all. I asked for my money back and a friend and I went elsewhere for a late lunch.

Absolutely disgusting phone service. Very unprofessional and rude. If this is the type of phone service provided I would hate to think what sort of personal customer service is provided. Your staff need training. Person who answered my phone call had no communication skills whatsoever very rude and abrupt then hung up. How rude. I will not be recommending your cafe. In fact quite the opposite

My partner and I stopped here for brunch one weekend whilst waiting for the mall to open. It was fairly early so only a few patrons were inside.<br/><br/>We shared an omelette and a strawberry and whipped cream pancake dish with a large mochachino to share since we had already had a light breakfast.<br/><br/>Service and decor were ok. It's just a cafe, so there's nothing special about it. The drink was fine, although a bit on the sweet side. We couldn't really taste any coffee in it, but the bowl was large enough for both of us and then some. The omelette was very poorly executed. It was watery, greasy, and flat. There was nothing to it at all and probably worse than I could do at home with on eye closed. There was no attempt at presentation or flavour, just grease, salt, and a slab of scrambled eggs with mushrooms and cheese inside with some burnt toast on the side. It was actually a chore to finish and we needed generous amounts of tomato sauce to make it palatable.<br/><br/>The strawberry and cream pancake, on the other hand, was a great compliment to the coffee and in hindsight, that's all we should have ordered.<br/><br/>It's probably fine for a drink and light snack to go with your drink, but for a meal, you might leave feeling disappointed.

Went for brunch yesterday. Service was great, prices was OK but the taste of the meals are below average. I had macaroni cheese, it was too watery, not enough cheese and the breakfast had all cheap ingredients and priced $13.30. Should have better stuffs in it.<br/><br/>I will go there for the service and the coffee, food need to improve

I think that this cafe is quite a good choice for a family meal out, especially on a Thursday or Friday night, as that is when they have their delicious roast meals.
