Review Porterhouse Grill - Manukau

Evashan Thavar
The food was excellent. Scallops were fresh and done perfectly. Buttery and melt in your mouth. My prime rib had great flavour in the seasoning, a tad underdone from my med-rare request but only just. I did not like the pepper sauce that came with it but the flavour of the steak on it's own was excellent. My partner had the cheddarmelt with a salad and enjoyed it. She really enjoyed the vinaigrette on the salad, said it was zesty which helped cut through the richness of the cheddarmelt. For desserts, we had the chocolate berry cake and lemon tart. The tart crust was really hard and the tart was bitter in some spots but other than that it was really good. Staff are friendly, though you do have to call them over if you need something, they do not follow up. The only real negative I'd say was my partner pricked her finger on an exposed nail under her chair.

I had an eye fillet with creamy mushroom sauce and mash potato. Also had seasonal vegetables for the side. I ordered my steak medium rare, and it was perfect. My kid had a kids steak, and she loved it. The staff were very kind. I think this is one of the best restaurants in Auckland.

Loved the atmosphere, portion size is massive for someone like me with an average appetite. Service was good, I suppose visiting as a part of a big group is somewhat challenging for both parties. Oreo cheesecake was mind blowing and their in-house lager was interesting.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality here despite being part of the mall! We ordered the NY strip, t-bone, beef cheek, spiced salmon and some sides. The steaks were cooked to a perfect medium-rare and tasted great with the mushroom and garlic sauces. The salmon was also quite tasty, although the portion was a bit small. The beef cheek was the real star though. So tender it just fell apart and didn't even need a knife! For the sides the cauliflower bites were great, however the potato skins were a tad too oily and didn't have enough potato in them. Big serving size for both though. Service was good not great, although that maybe partly due to our waiter being new. Food came out fairly quickly too which is always a bonus. Overall a good experience!

My experience at dining here swung from one extreme to the other in several areas. The staff were really attentive and happy to turn the music down a smidge so that us oldies (in our 50’s) could chat more easily, but bless, the poor waitress didn’t know that Chardonnay was a white wine, and tried to serve my brother’s merlot to my sister-in-law. The plates for 3 of us were cleared away while one was still eating, which always just feels wrong, even if you want to give them credit for clearing the ‘done’ dishes. But no real complaints here. The salt & pepper calamari was probably the worst calamari dish I’ve eaten in my life. They say it is flash fried - well - the rings are sooooo thin, I think they’d be overcooked even if you had them in the pan/fryer for 5 seconds. There was no flavour of the calamari, just the dried crunch and flavour of the burned ‘dusting’. I was so disappointed and was now dreading my main. But what a contrast. The Roquefort fillet was perfection. It was amazing. My brothers both had the lamb shanks and apart from saying that the shanks were a little anaemic and could have done with some browning at the start, they were very happy. We will return - but definitely won’t be ordering the calamari again.

We didn't get a chance to eat here but the staff were very gracious in allowing us to sit underneath their heated seats and chill for a bit - in addition to using their facilities. Kudos for the excellent customer service. We'll be back soon to enjoy the food as well!

Located in Pakuranga, Auckland this special home of food was a great choice. Steak, assortment of seafood and other choices ensures everyone has something to choose from. Friendly staff and a popular good food, you'll be best to call ahead and secure your seat. The layout helps to give you a range of options, so if it's a nice out with the crew, date night or a family feed, you'll find plenty of room for you and co.

Amazing food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere. All round great place to dine

We had a wonderful dinner date at Porterhouse. Staff is exceptional and the food is amazing. We had to thank the chef Doug and his staff for the delicious food. Berry pudding was divine. Best place to go if you want a food coma. Loved the garlic bread and buffalo wing's.

If happy hour could start at 6pm would be nicer. We had friends over for dinner from USA and they wanted to eat a good NZ steak. No better place than Porterhouse Grill. 2 more staff on the shift would help share the load. Staff were looking quite fatigued almost at the end. The young man and the younger girl on the Tuesday night were still smiling and 5stars for them and their positive attitude towards our table.

My family and I had a really amazing time at Porterhouse tonight. Our waitress was Melissa and she was so lovely! She made jokes with us and made sure we were looked after! Thank you for such a fun and special night

This is a fantastic steakhouse. The steak was great, perfectly medium rare and the steak sauce was just as good. My dad had the chicken fettuccine which was brilliant. The chicken schnitzel was a shade dry but that's a very finicky complaint about an otherwise good dish. The service was very pleasant and responsive. The ambience was pleasant and a lot of effort has gone into giving it a good appearance. Definitely worth the five stars.

Came in without a booking and was seated immediately! Nico was super friendly and made sure we were alright along with a few other staff. Even though it was busy, it felt like I still had good personal time with my partner. The food was very good, I got the chicken burger with mushroom sauce and my partner got the shrimp linguine. Amazing place to go, would highly recommend.

The food was really tasty and the cocktail happy special was on point 😊

Im gonna add 5 stars because the service was fantastic and the pork belly was really really good. We went there with no booking on what was a super busy Valentines Day (silly of us to think that was sensible at 6pm too) but the lovely Front Of House did his best to squeeze us in. we managed to get a table and were able to celebrate each other with little to no planning. Thanks again Porterhouse team.

Beautiful food, both in taste and presentation and fast friendly service made extra special by the wonderful Nico. Looking forward to returning to try more, but can recommend the lamb shank in a rich sauce with dreamy mash and the salmon which was cooked perfectly, and the most melt in your mouth beef cheeks. It’s not particularly cheap but it’s definitely value for money and was worth it. Good ambience too, it was very busy but had no impact on service and they promptly seated us with no reservation. Thank you! Great service and quality food 🙂

I was looking forward to eat in this place, in my personal opinion the service was good, the food was great, tons of flavour and well done, the place is comfy, the menu have enough varieties, the drinks were nice I enjoyed my experience here, the creme brule was really good. My only problem is that with the delicious steak they serve one single and fantastic onion ring, then you order a side plate of onion rings to enjoy a little more, and bum they serve this onion rings that you can get at frozen department in the supermarket and tastes pretty plain.

Been here a couple of times mostly cause the proximity to where I live. Bit on the pricey side though so wouldn't recommend if you're on a tight budget. Fries are on point and the garlic mashed potato is pretty good too. The vegetarian pasta had some pretty thick lumps of cheese in it and though I love cheese it made it a bit cloying and overly greasy. <br/><br/>Service is pretty fast and atmosphere is nice. Good spot for families and couples alike

It took so long for our food to come to the table. The people who came 20-30 mins after us got their food first. Really not happy. Wouldn’t recommend if you don’t want to wait for your food for an hour and 15 mins.

A kid friendly steak house. We like their duck, too. There duck salad is very yummy. Another must try dishes is potato skin
James Daniels
Nice food,cold beer, good service
Nicole
Salmon that was ordered was such a small piece and was raw - also cold. My sister also told the waiter that her ribs needed to be extra hot as she is pregnant and it was cold not even warm. Ribs were also not braised correctly and had no taste. Such poor quality food. On top of that there were two extra cheese cakes added to the bill that we did not order. The only thing that was nice was the mash. Won’t be going there again.

Wow what an experience, just love the new owners and what they have done to the food, staff and the resturant is amazing. Service is just amazing and the food, o my gosh the food is just so good! Porterhouse Grill thank you so much, you guys rock!
Kenian Fatherley
Food was pretty average here. Steak I requested medium rare turned up blue. Had to be sent back. Scallops on top were cold in the middle and yuck. Wont be wasting any more money going here.

Staff 4/10 I felt we were not served as attentively as other or even spoken in a good manner to perhaps bcz we seemed young (this is not an excuse though) <br/><br/>Environment 8/10 beautiful, relaxing & clean <br/><br/>Food 7/10 some dishes were decent while others were below average for the price you pay
Nyriva Cullen
The staff were so lovely and friendly I was waiting for my friend and I think they noticed I was waiting for awhile so they have me a free bowl of popcorn 😊 the food was really good only problem I had was with my steak. I asked for medium I got medium rare other then that everything was lovely. Especially the scallops thank ladies for the awesome service ❤

What can I say...Great steaks, excellent serving size and very friendly service. While the prices are on the steep side, it’s actually pretty standard to what you would pay anywhere else for a good meal. We had the New Yorker, the eye fillet and the scotch and they were perfectly cooked. Scallops for entree were fresh and deliciously prepared and the setting was comfortable. We’d go back for a hearty meat based meal.

Was a little disappointed. The food was expensive yet average taste. And the portions were little but you can expect that from a porterhouse. But the atmosphere and service was very good and helpful.<br/>Maybe wouldn't come back just because of how expensive it is for the food to be okay...<br/><br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Food: 3/5<br/>Pricing: 2/5<br/>Atmosphere: 5/5

Went in today for lunch with my partner not busy at all, food was on time. We ordered the chicken schnitzel very bland no flavour and the waiter coughed on the food by accident I’m guessing but you could have put the food down first? Which put us off. My partner received clean cutlery after eating entree except for me I had to use the same cutlery and the entree plate was not removed while we were eating our mains, they didn’t ask us how the meal was, staff talking loudly about personal matters will not be back anytime soon.

Dinner on a Monday night was disappointing, over the last 3 years and many visits we have found the service and food has deteriorated, the t bone was more a wedge cut which coloured from grey thru to light pink, not a medium rare to be sure! Chips where soft with no crunch and the staff seemed more interested chatting and playing on phones. Only 2 other tables occupied, guess most people know to avoid?!? <br/>
Cookingkenny
So so. Got told when booking we couldn’t book at 12 as they were busy, instead we had to book at 11:45??? At best the restaurant was 1/3 full on arrival. Steak was perfectly cooked. The fries were bland. Ever heard of Agria? Service wasn’t good but the cashier was very careful to remind each and everyone of us of the option for extra tipping with eftpos. “Please read the instructions, green for yes yellow for no.” Yellows all round. Stop asking for tips in New Zealand. And if you desire one make sure you go over and above the barest minimum service.

Honestly have nothing to fault at this place, everything was delicious even there salad which came as a side. Friendly staff and bonus my kids loved there meals aswell. Definetly making this place our new spot

Deleted my +ve review from a few years back! I understand it has new owners so a new review was due. The place is still clean, modern and tidy. Came in for lunch and seated ourselves. Ordered a beer and a cocktail to start. Took over 15mins for the drinks to arrive.  Ordered the squid with fries and duck breast salad. The duck breast was dry and the dressing in the salad did not compliment the duck. the fries tasted like they'd been reheated. We waited for one and half hours for two easy to cook dishes, we weren't happy. The place was not full and it looked like a skeleton crew was in operation? I'd eaten lunch and dinner here many a time before under the old regime. Seems like the new owners have come in with a new broom. Here's hoping it will improve!

Been here a few times before and usually the service is alright and food is good it’s just the wait for the dishes even if it’s not busy. Went Monday evening for lunch the atmosphere is always good, spacious and tidy but getting the attention of waiting staff wasn’t the best as it looked like they were more happy to chat with each other than check on their customers. When it came to order dessert they forgot two of our orders, they put it down in their system but it didn’t come out of the kitchen. In the end we ended up saying to them not to worry about the two missing desserts but to take it off our bill. For the prices they charge I would expect better customer service. I hope they get it right in future or risk losing more customers, I would have to really think twice about going back, but wish them all the best.

Great deco and furnishings, clean and tidy with ample seating space. Lovely cocktails costing $13.50, tried the avalanche which was delicious and well made. Highly recommend that drink. The garlic loaf is delicious as well, tried the ribs with mash for dinner but unfortunately I didn’t care too much for the ribs. Wasn’t made to my liking although it was quite tender, well made and plentiful. Great restaurant to dine in though.
Munchies
Very nice restaurant on the outside of pakuranga mall. Great for lunch or dinner. Nice ambiance for dinner with the famz or dates. <br/>Food is pretty good i love the potato skins that come on the side with most meals. <br/>Daily lunch specials available at cheaper prices. Service is high standard and have never had a problem when visiting here. Staff are friendly and food is good.

Porterhouse is my go to steak place. You can always rely on getting a good steak, and their mash potato and sauces are amazing. <br/><br/>I also really love that they put an onion ring on top on every steak. It’s a small touch I look forward to every time.
EyeVan Ho
Very disappointed. The environment was nice. Spacious and modern. Food was very average. For that price I would rather go to Lone star (despite lone Star isn't the best place for steak but it's steak is still better than porterhouse) Steak was bland so needed the sauce. It was a little bit burnt. Sauce was ok.. but again needed more flavour. Fries were rubbish, thick and mushy fries and they weren't crunchy. Service wasn't the best.. they weren't rude or anything but just needed to be more attentive to the customers instead of standing around and chatting.<br/><br/>Overall, really average place and won't be coming back especially because of its price.

Restaurant always looks smart and spacious and we weren't disappointed with the perfectly cooked sirloin and mushroom sauce. Sadly service was not at same level. When asking about specials I was directed to a board outside and my older lunch companion couldn't remember what was rattled off to us. Also offering salads, vege side dishes at time of ordering would be appreciated. No tips here sorry.

Porterhouse’s food is fantastic. Go there a lot and love the food!! Steaks are fantastic. Love the kumara mash. Puddings are delicious. Don’t mind to pay for good food. Is it South African owners?

One of the best place to have a perfect steak fillet. The meat was cooked to perfection and the service is great. Restaurant is spacious and comfortable. Parking is a breeze. What a place, what a little gem in the heart of Pakuranga. Well done and keep up with the good work.

very disappointed in the food 2 of us ordered the steak and it came under cooked and luke warm. I sent mine back and when they  bought it back it was still luke warm. For the prices they charge I expected alot better. We wont be going back. One good thing was the service.
Orient Express
Porterhouse Grill is an eyecatcher in the sleepy Pakuranga Shopping Centre. To the best of my knowledge, it is also the only steakhouse in the Pakuranga area. The price point has always made me hesitant to give it a try but the reasonably priced lunch specials ($15-20) changed my mind. <br/><br/>The Porterhouse Special is a sirloin steak that comes on a hotplate topped with a large onion ring. I requested a medium but mine felt more like a medium-well. The quality was good as I didn’t need to spit anything out but it was bland without sauce and the meat was lean so it was not as juicy as I feel it should have been. The Beef Schnitzel, which also used a sirloin cut, was much thinner and more pleasant to eat than the steak. The crumbing was okay – not too overwhelming but a bit lacking in crunch. As with the steak, the quality of the meat was good. As far as gourmet burgers go, Porterhouse Grill’s lunch special was a bit on the small side. It used Thousand Island dressing and relish as the sauces. It was nothing special taste-wise but by an okay burger.<br/><br/>Each of the above items came with a bowl of fried potato skins and a choice of pepper or mushroom sauce. I enjoyed the skins very much as they felt like a cross between wedges and chips (crisps) which was unique to me. The pepper sauce upon initial consumption tasted creamy and then the peppery taste kicks in later which felt unnatural to me. The mushroom sauce was also creamy but did not have such a strange interaction.<br/><br/>We were immediately seated and served water upon stepping in but our water was not refilled at any point. One of the orders of mushroom sauce was replaced with pepper sauce but this was rectified immediately. The aesthetic and décor is very nice and the restaurant is extremely spacious.<br/><br/>My experience at Porterhouse Grill was surprisingly disappointing as I found the overall flavours underwhelming. Assuming my lunch experience is indicative of what their full priced items are like, I wouldn’t even give dining at Porterhouse a second thought. I wouldn’t go as far to say the food was bad because it definitely wasn’t but it isn’t sufficiently good enough to warrant hefty price tags.

Honestly, I love their food and it’s the first steakhouse that comes to my mind when I’m craving a heavy meal, so I’ve been delaying writing a review hoping the service I had come across would only be a one timer thing. I’m Asian, and so is my mum except that her English isn’t as fluent. We’re Korean so it’s not like she’s got a heavy accent that’s incomprehensible, just that her tenses may not always be 100% accurate. The girls working there, from what I’ve always come across look to be young European girls and it’s always so evident that they look down on my mother every time we’re in there. They’d see her putting her hand up for order and deliberately ignore her, correct her English in front of her, pretend like they can’t understand what she’s ordering despite her literally pointing to what she had wanted on the menu and glanced over at our table from time to time and continue to giggle with the rest of them and it honestly infuriated me as her daughter. Though I was picking up on this I thought I was just being overly sensitive and taking it the wrong way but my sister-in-law said the same thing to me privately after we got home so that mum wouldn’t have to hear this bull. It’s the 2018 why are they still being racist? I’ve been crossing my fingers for change every time I walk in but I just come out with a deeper image of racist waitresses. Their food is amazing and it’s definitely not the chef’s fault that service is seriously letting them down. I’d love to give more stars but I just can’t.

We ate dinner at PG tonight and were suitably impressed.  The steaks and sides were delicious and well cooked, the service was okay albeit a little slow at times, overall a very nice time was had by all.  I had the lazy sirloin which was massive, the bearnaise sauce and chips were very nice

Pleasant staff. Food cooked to perfection. We came in for a small family birthday dinner and left deliciously satisfied. Thank you for a great dinner!

I’ve been to so many restaurants around Auckland but this one was an experience like never before. Must admit that the service provided on the night that I went on was really poor. The restaurant wasn’t too busy despite it being a weekend and there weren’t many walk ins either so I’d assume that the service provided should’ve been excellent however I was disappointed as the manager on duty was quite rude and very unprofessional with no respect for his customers. The food was also average for the price we paid. I guess the only good thing about this place was that it was spacious but the manager really needs to learn customer service skills and come up with solutions for unhappy customers instead of bringing in his ego. Would not recommend this place to any of my friends or family to be very honest. Date night turned into such a massive disappointment 👎🏻
Eileen Shakana
Do really enjoy the service and atmosphere but scallops were a bit raw, my calamari was just the average one youd find which wasnt amazing for the price.

Stopped by for dessert with two young daughter and Boss. Asked for 3 waffles with vanilla ice cream I must say i did enjoy the large waffles but thought the ice cream servings were too small. Wasn’t too impressed with the service as our waffles came out 3-5mins apart as if they only had one waffle maker lol but waitress made up for it by apologizing. Still I will be back to try the steaks as everyone’s been here recommends there steaks.<br/><br/>17/06/28<br/>Finally had a proper 3 course meal here and it was the bomb. Really enjoyed every thing I had. Nice portion meal sizes will definitely come again.

Good afternoon.<br/>The owner / manager shows no respect to the lovely team of young waitresses who works there.<br/>I was so disturbed by his behaviour I could not finish my meal.<br/>I asked him about the values of the business and how he sets up coaching and mentoring conversations with his team.<br/>He didn’t know what I was talking about. No acting with integrity or respect.<br/>Strongly if you uphold values of respect and integrity, don’t eat at Porterhouse.

One of my top 5. Always come here when i get the chance or if i got the mean munchies.. lol Everything is on point. Love the steak combos. Food is always HOT when served.. porterhouse never fails to disappoint👍🏽 solid as spot! I reckon they got the best ribs too

BAD..BAD..BAD... The service was poor and I would like to say the food was good except I did not get any!!  And not for the first time in the text I will use the word "incompetent", plus poor, sloppy, unprofessional, lazy and useless. We were thinking our food was a bit slow arriving considering it was only 5pm, not many other people in the place and we only ordered simple burgers. After 30 min of waiting for our adult and kids burgers only, we asked a waitress who went to check but never came back. Waited another 10 minutes and asked another waitress who came back in another 5 min to tell us the kitchen never actually got order and it would at least another 15 min!!!<br/>We decided to pull the plug and leave as the kids were hungry and grumpy. <br/>What really pee'd me off was they still charged me for our drinks!! Yes, we are probably legally required to pay for what we had but surely three cokes, an orange juice and two cheap kids drinks could have been over looked as a gesture of goodwill considering the Porterhouses incompetence cost us at least an hour of our time, grumpy kids and the cost of pointless drinks. Plus we had to find another place.  Maybe different if we had more expensive alcohol but it would have cost them no more than a couple of dollars for the drinks. One would think at least one of the 3 or 4 waitresses walking around would have clicked that the table still does not have food ,and where was the waitress that seated us and took our drinks. Normally they ask how things are going. Yet nothing.<br/><br/>I can't get my money back but I can at least tell anybody that will listen not to waste there time and money at this place and if I was the manager I would be booking a few places in the Dole queue for some of his \ her staff!!!!<br/><br/>Not impressed.

One of my favourite restaurants to grab lunch at! I always enjoy their lunch specials where the portions are worth the price and definitely fills you up. Along with friendly staff, the place is spacious and has comfortable seating that will accommodate any number of guests. <br/><br/>I always either get their lunchtime schnitzel with mushroom sauce or their lunchtime burger special that's served with potato skins. Would definitely like to try out the rest of their menu next time. <br/><br/>Food 7.5/10<br/>Service 6.5/10<br/>Ambience 7/10<br/>Price 7.5/10

Was a bit worried after some of the reviews but this was one of the best steaks I’ve had in Auckland. Great, friendly service too. Will be back for sure.

We went there for team lunch. I liked the buzzing atmosphere. I ordered lunchtime schnitzel which was delicious and good size. Recommended for lunch.

Poorest Customer service in NZ!!<br/>Came in and lady told us my 6yr old son is not allowed to eat his slice of pizza from outside! What a shame!<br/>Went out and not to eat here anymore!!!
Bhoy Hopping
No matter how good is your food if your customer service is poor its nothing. My son was just finishing his slice of pizza waiter came give us the menu and told us not allowed to bring food. Not all kids like to eat steak be considerate next time. First time ever being told not allowed to eat in the restaurant especially for kids. Not good enough!
Bhavya
Been here a few times, and absolutely love their steak and sauce options! This is my go-to place for steak cravings. Good selection of wine as well with good ambiance
LOONA
I’ve been here a few times since it first opened and initially the food was very pleasant, good service and atmosphere. The last time I went recently I asked to ordered a pasta dish that wasn’t on the light lunches menu but wasn’t specified as a dinner only menu and was rudely told by staff that it would be “impossible” to make before 5.30pm. I decided on the fish and chips which was honestly disgusting. There was so much oil in the fish it was the only thing you could see and taste I couldn’t stomach all of it. The desert was good although I would be surprised if they could mess that up too.
Jing Zhou
Very poor service. Took 50min for kids meal ready with burnt fish. Been told that's how the fish and chips cooked in this place:( Find other better place to eat.... Do not waste your time and money here

Went for lunch today and the food was delicious. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Good value for money. Will definitely be going again.

It’s hard to classify this place. Stated as casual dinning, people with shirt and shorts are shown in the same room, which is a bit strange to me. <br/><br/>The decoration and dinning environment was very good, with good menu choices and reasonable price. The food was not really appealing, I would say, just average standard. The wine list I saw was consist of supermarket-level cheap wines. The steak I ordered was cooked well, but the meat was in average quality. Not well-marbled with some chewy tendon left inside. <br/><br/>The staffs were friendly but the table service was not good. The main dishes were not come together for my table. One of my friend was not even finished his entree when his main arrived. <br/><br/>If you seek for good steaks or a good 3-course dining experience, not go this place. If you look for a casual place for steak or burger to fuel you up, it may suit you.
David Rawson
Burger bun was stale and it took forever to serve the meal. And then we were asked for a tip (after waiting 30mins for the meal)! Such a pity since the location is good
Ryan Xu
It takes too long ;( It’s been 45mins and still no food. Bad place. Why is it taking so long tho ? I am really hungry :( It seriously takes so long !!!!!!!!!
Hilary Campbell
Nice place! For main I had the sirloin steak with mashed potato and peppercorn sauce. The steak was cooked really nicely and the peppercorn sauce was amazing and there was heaps of it. For dessert I had the new york cheesecake, it was nice but nothing special and the icecream with it just seemed like it came straight out of the tub. The service was a bit slow, and disjointed . Overall great mains , would love to come back :)
Braden Hunt
Overall this experience was poor because of the expectations caused by their prices and poor serving staff. <br/><br/>To start with the food, I ordered a calamari entree (and was asked by my server how I’d like it cooked...), and ribs. The calamari was ok but because it was heaped together in a bowl by the time it got to me any crunch it may have had had disappeared. The ribs were pretty bland, had been tossed in an oven and that was about it, no idea if there was a dry rub (couldn’t taste it if there was), and they were drier than my grandmothers chicken breasts in the 90s. Served with some chips in a stupid holder on the side (piles of room on the plate they could’ve sat on) and nothing else (is a bit of coleslaw or something too much to ask?). <br/><br/>In the end the table was piled with dishes as the servers didn’t come round clearing often, and we walked away feeling somewhat ripped off. I wouldn’t mind paying that kinda money if the service had been up to scratch and the food worthy. I can’t say I’ll be rushing back.

Good points: <br/>Layout & decor, relaxed setting, generous portions, good price for a glass of house wine, dinner menu is always great with something for everyone<br/><br/>Bad points:<br/>Wait times are generally at the longer end, lunch menu is disappointing<br/><br/>Latest visit -<br/>Stopped in for lunch. We tried the duck special with polenta, the saucy burger special & the chicken aioli sandwich.<br/><br/>The burger was great value at $11, the portion was big and it was tasty! Don't care much for potato skins but my sisters enjoyed them. <br/><br/>The sandwich was average - just a sandwich with toasted bread nothing special.<br/><br/>The duck was way overcooked and sent back to the kitchen to be redone. They were happy to accommodate and redo the duck. Unfortunately it came back and was still not cooked well. The fat hadn't been rendered enough so the skin was chewy and inedible but we'd waited so long initially that my sister just tried to get through it. The polenta on the plate was really nice & buttery but beans were way overdone. <br/><br/>Will be back again but won't be for lunch, only dinner!

Good location, nice ambience and friendly staff. We tried the lunchtime ribs, chicken schnitzel, beef schnitzel, fish and chips and Samwise Gamgee (cheese toasties) for lunch. They are nice but not exceptional. The lunchtime ribs was way overcooked and a bit dry though I love the potato skin on the side. The price is reasonable and will still try the other dishes from the menu.

Excellent food here! Been twice - first time was for dinner and it was delicious! We got the Buffalo wings to start and they are some of the best I've ever had, perfect amount of spice (and I like them spicy) and I also got a chicken salad which was really good. My partner got steak which he said was good! Also came for lunch and got the chicken burger which was massive - well worth the money! Only 2 downfalls - the u don't serve buffalo wings at lunch :( needs to change! Also my waitress at lunch time was very sour - didn't smile once and more grunted than spoke. High recommendations for the food though!

Been wanting to try this out for months now and finally I went with my friends. I ordered the scotch fillet with garlic mash. In my opinion, the steak was really good but for the price, I have had better. For me, it was a one time thing. The price turned me off but I guess all the steaks in a fine dining restaurant are the same price range. Service was really good.
Seow William
The food was not good that as expected , but not too bad . Its took a slightly long to wait for food and the steak served with low temperature sizzling plate, the deep fry onion look like a very dark oil to fry, but it's still crunchy. Overall the food was not much excited.<br/>The service was nice, the staffs here were friendly , you may see a smile on their face .The environment here was comfortable.<br/>The price was reasonable and absolutely recommend<br/>if people do not rush in time to go.

The food was absolutely amazing ! Best well done steak ever and that garlic mash was just perfect . The lamb shank was also cooked to such perfection. Couldn't find a single flaw in the food , atmosphere or staff . Thank you ! Will def. recommend to others and will be back again !!

Food was really good. Pork belly was very tender and steak cooked exactly as we wanted it. Service could have been better but all in all, not bad.

We came here for my mother-in-law's birthday, as the place looks like it has a nice romantic ambience. The restaurant was completely packed on Saturday night, booking is definitely required.<br/><br/>I liked how you could choose how well done you would like your steak, and choose your own sauce and sides. <br/><br/>The service people were friendly enough, however, the biggest let down of the night was how long it took for the food arrive. We expected there to be a wait, but we did not expect it to be more than 50 minutes. <br/><br/>Everyone enjoyed the food. My father-in-law's spare ribs were cooked to perfection and absolutely falling off the bone, the sauce had a nice sweet tang to it. My husband said his beef cheeks were well cooked and not overly salty like how the beef cheeks from other restaurant. My mushroom & cheddar steak (I ordered medium) was sealed on the outside, and still slightly pink and very juicy on the inside. The sauce was creamy and divine. I also liked the huge onion rings which were sweet and crunchy. The garlic mash was slightly bland for me.<br/><br/>For desserts, we had creme brûlée and sticky date pudding to share. The creme brûlée had a perfect crispy sugar top; and the sticky date pudding had nice gingery flavours, which went really well with the soft serve and the butterscotch sauce.<br/><br/>All in all, the food was definitely delicious. Was it worth the long wait? I am not entirely certain. May be worth coming earlier, or during weekdays.

Came in for lunch today and the service was really slow considering how empty it was<br/><br/>I have been here a few times and the garlic and cheese loaf is one of best I've had so it's a no brainer start a meal off with one. So cheesey and full of garlic it's absolutely amazing.<br/>For mains we ordered their cottage pie, pork belly tacos and the chicken schnitzel.<br/>The cottage pie was below average in my opinion..didnt have much flavour and was packed with too many peas and carrots rather than meat.<br/>The pork belly tacos were a 5/5. It was seriously delicious..the pork was cooked well and the flavour combos worked together perfectly.<br/>The chicken schnitzel paired with their mushroom sauce was delicious.<br/><br/>

I've been to the porterhouse grill several times for lumch. However, this time during dinner I feel that I didn't receive the regular service that they provide. The young female staff were very poor and need improvement. The food wasn't even that great. Very disappointed at the service.

I've been visit this steakhouse at very beginning when they just opened. However, our recently experience were very disappointed and I can tell the quality of food and other things are going down. <br/><br/>The ribs we ordered were over cooked, I just cut the burned edge and it's still acceptable. The cocktail's size was very small and the first cup I got just taste like pure water with some mints. I complaint with the staff and she said this is what the Mojito is.......Then, I complaint with the manager and he made another new one for me----A real Mojito. <br/><br/>When we pay our bill, we saw the extra charge for the sauce $4.5. It is also our fault that we didn't look at the menu carefully. There was a new staff served us and asked which sauce do we prefer, she never mentioned about the extra charge to us. <br/><br/>It's pity to see such nice restaurant getting worse.

Enjoyed myself a Delicious and very hearty Pulled Pork Sandwich with a complementary side of appleslaw. I need to try what else is on this menu and so should you!

We actually come here a lot, normally we have nothing but awesome things to say about the food and the service but today I was really disappointed in the customer service from the manager, I felt as though because we're Maori we didn't get the same treatment as the other tables. We made a reservation and when we walked in, we didn't even get looked at from the man. We were told to take the left corner, carelessly said. Was pretty upset as I seen the other people be walked to their table, they even got their water poured for them. As a waitress and manager myself I'm very disappointed.... to the young lady that served us she was absolutely amazing and was really helpful. Overall experience wasn't that great, wouldn't recommend to anyone.

A place that many have raved about in east Auckland and lived up to the expectation. <br/>Joined by three other guests tonight, three out of four of us ordered a steak and the other person ordered lamb shanks. My steak was cooked perfectly and was complimented by a beautifully smooth bernaise sauce (my favourite with steak). The lamb shanks were also seasoned and cooked perfectly. <br/>I feel like this is a restaurant where you truly get what you pay for and the service we received was fantastic! The lovely waitress was warm, genuine and checked up on us frequently enough. <br/>My only criticism would be the amount of time we had to wait for our food which was about 45 minutes. Although, I can understand that for it is a Saturday night after all. <br/>Overall, a good experience 👌🏾

I had pretty high expectations coming here, as my friends had raved about how good the steak was. I ordered a rump with Bernaise and garlic mash. The rump was okay a little on the rare side which is normally okay but it just didn't taste right. The garlic mash was luke warm which didn't help either. The fries looked great but were actually soggy even though the photos look like they were crispy. Lamb shank was really tender so plus points. The onion rings were also very tasty and crisp. I will say their Bernaise and blue cheese and garlic sauces are delicious would rate a 5/5. I had an entertainment card so we got 25% off the bill which was worth it. I should mention the waitress was so lovely and warm we really appreciated her serving us. The manager was also very accomodating and got us a table within 3 minutes even though the place was really busy. Unfortunately the food and wait time of 35mins ish was not great.

Went for lunch yesterday. Food was okay...but over priced for what you get. <br/>Unfortunately found service was a little slow, not impressed with the staff. ..a bit of a wait as people were waiting at the counter either to pay or be seated.

Not my first time visit, always had great experience!Been there this Saturday 5:30ish for my son birthday 4 kids 4 adults, booked table days ago requested two high chairs all went well until we seated for 10 minutes no water on the table no waitress approached,so we have to call for attention.<br/><br/>Orders were all went well, did not repeat order and i mentioned about water she ensured will bring it shortly. 2 minutes later she was giggling with floor manager, and water still not served. Kids meals came first which was really helpful and thoughtful,to be honest the meals were divine steak beatifully cooked i would give 5 out of 5!Meals came altogether as i requested, asked for steak knife been ensured will bring shortly and mentioned water again. 10 minutes later i have to asked for steak knife and water one more time, this round got what we needed, very disappointed. We were checked during the meal by a different waiter whomwere very gentle and warm. <br/>After meals kids got little left, asked for takeaway, waitress said we need to pack our own,a little surprised and felt unhelpful,as kids were all finished and a little tired.<br/>Overall great food within all Eastern area, staff need some training, whole floor service a little messy. Will return back for food. Food 5/5, Ambience 4/5,service 3/5.

Had dinner here with a friend and it was overall an enjoyable experience with just a couple of small to moderate let downs.<br/><br/>Firstly the service was very pleasant throughout, a friendly waitress, staff were prompt and attentive without being intrusive. The food also came out reasonably quickly.<br/><br/>For entree/starter we had a garlic ciabatta loaf and fried calamari to share. The calamari excellent and tasted fresh with just the right amount of crispiness and without being too oily. The garlic loaf was not as enjoyable however as it had a rather strong "doughy" taste.<br/><br/>I was slightly disappointed that they did not have an eye-fillet bigger than 200g so I ordered the 300g New York Strip cooked rare. The steak was excellent and cooked to a good level of consistency inside and out.The seasoning on the steak was done very well which eliminated the need for the sauce as I feel that a well-seasoned steak should be enjoyed without the sauce in order to get the most out of the natural flavour and quality of the meat.<br/><br/>A  surprising letdown was the fries that came with the steak. The outside wasn't particularly crispy and the inside was dense and dry as if they weren't cooked thoroughly, and they lacked any sort of flavour. I felt that was simply unacceptable for a restaurant in this price bracket. Most takeaway places manage to cook better fries. I hope this was just a one-off.<br/><br/>Really wanted to give this place a 4/5 considering the the overall positive experience and the fact I would happily come back, but I felt that the fries was a let down being something seemingly simple that was neglected.

Birthday lunch for our son. Very attentive staff, very comprehensive menu both food and drinks. Not overly busy but food served in good time. Lovely waitress. Will be back

I am impressed with the style, service and food for this new establishment. The meals were generous in portion but did not dissapoint with food taste. Reasonable price. Great for families. Would recommend.

Visited this place on a late Saturday evening. They advertised they opened till late so we thought being that we rock up around 8:30 that there would be no problem in serving us. It took a good couple of minutes of us standing at the front counter for staff to actually notice and come over and serve us. We were seated and advised that the delay was due to staff checking if the kitchen was still open. We had the deep fried mushroom balls & cheese garlic ciabatta for entree. The mushroom balls were divine & I would consider going back for those alone. The garlic bread was also very nice. We had mains of Rump & Squid rings + Rump Caesar. The meal came out in a timely manner. Steak was cooked beautifully to our liking. Overall the meal was nice but questions over the service we received. Would consider returning to this place.

Such an awesome restaurant that I would highly recommend! Took my parents out to experience so Western cuisine and they thoroughly enjoyed it. The waiter was really friendly and checked on us to make sure everything was okay. Food portions are quite large and we only ordered 1 entree, 3 mains and 1 dessert (but it was so delicious). The food was prepared pretty quickly as it was early evening so there weren't many tables to serve.<br/><br/>We ordered the fresh oysters which were on special - with 3 dipping sauces to please everyone, the Scotch Fillet with cracked pepper sauce - an amazing complement to the steak, the Caesar Rump - although became a little tough since we asked for it to be well done, the Porterhouse Burger and the Death by Chocolate. The dessert was my favourite dish and would recommend all chocolate lovers out there to try it!

We come here all the time when we want a decent steak but can't be bothered getting super dressed up to go into town (right around he corner from home). They do tend to overcook slightly so if you want it medium rare, ask for rare. But it still tastes great despite the overcooking. Not so much of a fan of the BBQ glaze they now put on the meat (changed in the last few months), but I have the black pepper sauce which is delicious and makes it all better. They're really good with swapping sides depending on what you need. All in all, a place that has good quality meat, cooked well, and adequate sides to accompany.<br/><br/>Oh and the starters are actually all really good.

Visited Porterhouse Grill last Saturday 01/10/16. We walked in to the restaurant during a non busy period around lunch time. The staff did not notice that we had walked in therefore we did not receive any service. I had to approach a staff member to request service/menus. During the meal, the staff failed to check up on their customer to see if everything was going well or if we needed anything. Again, when we required extra service we had to leave the table to request this. Additionally, we ordered extra mushroom sauce to go on the side however when we asked for a takeaway this was not given to us despite the fact we were charged for it (we only realised this once the take away box was opened at home). Very disappointed in the service!!
Birgit Rahm
A bit disappointed. We were a large table and service was slow to non existent. Water never got filled up. No side plates even after I asked for them. My steak was medium to well done despite having asked for rare. Couldnt tell the waitress as she was never around. Other people on our table seemed to enjoy their meal.

Went here for lunch on the weekend and my what a disappointment it was. After getting seated we waited 15 mins for the waitress to come and take our order. The restaurant had only about 7 - 8 tables occupied so it wasn't that busy. 45 mins later and after seeing that the nearby table got their food despite arriving 20 mins after us, we decided to ask one of the waitresses what was happening with our order. She said she would go and check. 5 mins later the original waitress who took our order came out and said to us that our order didn't go through the system which just sounded like a load of bull and we decided to leave. We were extremely disappointed with how they handled this. So coupled with a half assed apology the waitress then totalled the bill for our drinks. Will never go here again or recommend to anyone. Absolutely pathetic service and useless staff.

Came here on a Sunday night which was a lovely time, wasn't too loud and the ambience was great. Got a table easily without booking. Our waitress was great however our food did take a while to get to us considering that it wasn't very busy. <br/><br/>The steaks were great, cooked exactly the way we asked for. Probably one of the best steaks I've had. Reasonable price and portion size and the sides were great too. Nothing bad to say about this steak house :)
Medium_Rare
Came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was quite crowded, but nonetheless we were really warmly welcomed by the waiter and the rest of the service was consistently attentive. <br/><br/>We ordered a steak with ribs combo, with mash on the side, and a bowl of onion rings. I asked for medium rare, but it looked like I got medium instead. Fussier eaters be wary, but personally I wasn't going to be up in arms about it. The black pepper sauce was just the right accompaniment to the steak as well. The ribs were tender and came right off the bone, and the sauce that came with it was sticky and well flavoured. <br/><br/>The mash was slightly chunky, which I thought gave it a good texture, and was peppered with a mild garlic flavour. It was a great serving size too--despite it being a side to the steak, it was actually quite a large portion. <br/><br/>The onion rings were surprising--I'd expected frozen onion rings that were mildly refried, but they looked homemade and were super crispy and enjoyable. I'd have totally reached for another bowl if there were one. <br/><br/>All in all, I would totally come back for round two! <br/><br/>Showstopper: Affable staff & good portions <br/><br/>Overall grade: A

Great food the best steak I've had in a long time, excellent service, child friendly, accomodating venue. Couldn't ask for a better place to eat in pakuranga!

We went to dinner on Friday night and I am glad we made a reservation because the place was full. The atmosphere is nice and buzzing with a lot of people having a good time. We ordered the cheesy garlic bread for a starter and it was full of flavor and lots of cheese. I had the ribs and they were fall off the bone tender with just enough basting, I don't like an overpowering basting sauce. The chips were nice and crispy. Other members of the party ordered the chicken schnitzel and in all honesty, it must be one of their top dishes. It was beautiful chicken breasts, well crumbed and not oily like a lot of other places, it was also a very generous portion. Another member had the rump steak and it was absolutely perfect and tender. My daughter order the steak from the kiddies menu and even that was quite a generous piece of steak and very well cooked. The only let down was that they did not put her order through with ours so she had to wait a bit longer for the food. All in all a very good experience and will definitely go back.

Good steak. Good service. Unique dish presentation. Highly recommend. A bit pricey but very worth it. Interesting flavours. Good for a splurge night

Slow service and I mean slow! Took 50 minutes to get average steaks. The huge redeemer was the sticky date pudding wow. That dessert is the stuff you would come back to just for that.

Came here for lunch a couple of weeks ago and first impression was wow, what a fancy place! Unfortunately the food didn't match its high end ambience. We ordered the lunchtime ribs, chowder and the calimari. <br/><br/>The highlight was the ribs. The meat was falling off the bone and had lots of flavour. Would've been nice with more sauce. I had the potato skins instead of normal chips and I'm glad I swapped. The potato skins were crispy but, I still preferred Burger burger ones. The calimari was average, I've tried better and the chips were nothing special. <br/>The chowder was nice and the bread was a nice touch to mop up the soup. <br/>Service was great and atmosphere was great too. Not a bad place lunch but prepare for a pricy meal if you're going for dinner.

place is very clean with lot of space. love the seating. will be good for group gathering.<br/>seating area is good for kids too. <br/>staffs are friendly. seafood chowder is very delicious. i ordered rump medium rare, it was a bit to chewy for me :) had sore jaw after eating :) but the mushroom sauce is excellent <br/>

Great choice of $10 lunches, place is very upscale and there is my choice in the area for a reuben sandwich, bbq ribs, burger, mayo chicken sandwich, etc.. potato skins are delicious and service is great too
Elle
The atmosphere, potato skins and their friendly staff are the only redeeming qualities. I have been here a few times now and each time it has been very underwhelming for what I have paid. The potato chips have been undercooked 3 out of the 4 occassions that I have been there. Steaks were ... steady. Most of the dishes use a variety of ingredients that do not taste fantastic together. The burger I had was extremely greasy. Okay for an evening drink.

We've been to Porterhouse Grill multiple times now - their consisted great service and food is well worth the slightly above average wait times and awkward filler conversations that people have when there isn't much to talk about! The servers are always super attentive and nothing is too difficult for them. They are how servers act in the US and Canada when they are scouting for tips, something that is obviously non-obligatory in New Zealand, so kudos to them!<br/><br/>This is place where you will never run out of garlic mashed potato. So don't order any as a side, because there will usually be plenty of it with some of the mains that you order. This can then be shared out amongst your group.<br/>I have tried a few meals here, but the Chicken Filo definitely stands out. Also make sure you try out their shakes, which are a delicious sugar hit.<br/>One occasion where we visited, they accidentally threw the salad out after we asked them to pack it for us to take home. So they very nicely made up a fresh one for us.<br/>Will definitely keep coming back for special occasions - we live nearby so it's good have a high quality diner in the area.

Dined here last Saturday night at 7pm. Place was so busy which is good.<br/>Ordered 3 steaks and a pork belly. One eye fillet was lovely 2nd not so good but eatable but the scotch fillet was like chewing on an old gumboot ( I imagine). When speaking to the owner he basically tried to fob off the problem as he stated that half the steak was eaten( was so busy no one asked if our meals were ok) half was also left as it was just too chewy! he offered a free desert. No thanks. So he took 7$ off the price of a 30$plus steak. Come on!!! So bad. Yes your restaurant is busy at the moment, but mark my words if you carry on with that attitude and serving gumboot steaks your customers will not return.<br/>On the positive the pork belly was amazing and our young waitress was an absolute pleasure, the owner just needs to get a grip and stop being so pretentious.

Tuesday night and steak was on the agenda. Calamari starter was good. My steak (scotch) was overcooked, friend's steak (eye fillet) was perfect. One would expect a mid $30 steak would be cooked well, especially for a placed categorising itself as a steakhouse. Steak was quickly replaced with something better, but had to eat my steak after my friend was almost finished. Expected to eat the baked potato skin but was tough (chewy). Dessert was a NY cheesecake. Portion was large but lacked any flavour. <br/><br/><br/>Service - Table booked for Porterhouse Grill and were shown to our tables promptly. That was the only time service was prompt. Menu variety was vast. Good selection of steaks to choose from. 10 minutes after deciding what to have, we were searching for a attendant to take our order and finally got the attention of one after waving him down from the bar. Manager dealt with overcooked steak quickly and was apologetic. Service needs to be more attentive.<br/><br/><br/>

Enjoyed a fantastic meal at Porterhouse Grill on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant setting was classy and spacious. The amenities were of a high order and the service was brilliant. <br/><br/>I ordered the steak and rib combo with mushroom sauce and garlic mash. I was allowed to swap the rump for a scotch fillet which was a great gesture. I was impressed with the medium rare steak which was juicy, flavoursome and complemented perfectly by the mushroom sauce. The ribs were also amazing and had me craving more, despite how filling the meal was. The mash went well with the meal but I did not find it matching the excellent grade of the rest of the meal.<br/><br/>Some issues from the group I dined with were the time it took to serve the meal and the pricing. I felt the quality of the meal and the fact that I was full and satisfied were justifiable. A beer/ wine and some good banter while we waited was fine by me.<br/><br/>Overall it was a fantastic dining experience and a place I would definitely revisit!

Last night Saturday 07 may 2016. Had some dinner at Poterhouse. Food was great. They where super busy all the sudden. Toke a while for our food to arrive. Must longer then normal. Dessert come out super fast. I order the waffle forgot to say not to pour syrup wich was way to much syrup for me. The only problem I have with the restaurant they don't have. any vegan options. like 2 options for vegans.
Elaine
Very bad service. We waited for 1.5 hrs to get our food. Our son has serious food allergy to egg and wheat. We told the waitress many times to be careful. However, the food finally came with the onion rings with gluten on top of the steak. We complained about that. The cook just took out the onion rings and didn't cook the steak again for us. We wouldn't recommend to others.
Karen
Highly recommend! Lovely staff and amazing food. <br/><br/>I was really craving a nice, juicy steak and I was not disappointed! With plenty of options and combos too, you can't really go wrong. <br/><br/>I chose the calamari and steak combo which I think it really great value as you get a side also. I was stuffed by the end of it and very satisfied. The only think I can fault is the calamari rings but this may be down to personal preference, the coating wasn't as crispy as I would have thought or liked but they were still good none-the-less.

Absolutely loved the quality of the steak and was at a very reasonable price for its quality. Had the rump steak and was cooked just right. Looking forward to coming back :)

The reason im giving a 5 is because of the fantastic customer service we received, the food was decent as-well but was very happy with the way we were treated, we didnt have a reservation but the young lady that greeted us when we arrived for very nice and still was able to get us a table even though it was busy which was fantastic, they immediately provided a high chair for my son (hes 1 year old) and they provided menus and some water really fast, she was very patient with us as it took time for us to decide what to order, the lady cud see my son was hungry so i liked the fact that she went and see the chefs and was able to get his kids meal out to us first to settle him down that was great common sense for her to offer to do that so i was impressed and she even got him some colouring pens and paper to keep him entertained,  the young lady had worked all day and it was almost 9pm by the time we finished dinner and she was still very polite and smiling the entire time so this was excellent, overall the food was good and well priced and the service was fantastic.<br/><br/>we will be back  :)

We've been as a family to this restaurant 3 times now and we are never disappointed. The service is excellent and the food is Devine. Our steaks are always cooked exactly to order and that ranges in my family from Blue to well done. I'm told the non steak menu is great too.. Kids love their desert !
Dean
The steak is the best to offer in Auckland. Medium rare, so soft and juicy. Side of potato mash, as I don't like chips, vegetables are also an option. Nice decor. Ask for a booth, nice and cosy. Prices are reasonable for a good steak.

Top of the Steak places superbly located in Pakuranga! Been there to have their $10 lunch specials as well as lunches and the odd dinner too. Good food starts with a good wine, the well matched wine carries the meal through & accompanying the mains all the way till the dessert. Very happy to say here is a most satisfied customer. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The seating is very tasteful and the decor is classy with some great lighting; bright enough to read the menu, dim enough to distinguish what you eat! Their steaks are one of the best in town. The Chefs cook them exactly as you ordered the meat is juicy succulent aged rightly and supremely melt in the mouth quality, the accompanying sauce is top notch, presentation very good; and if you are game, do have their desserts! Overall I recommend book early, they are really popular & pray your order does not get mixed or forgotten. Life can get hectic in such places, but that would not stop me from getting a great steak meal at this place. Their menu changes from time to time so its a great idea to try new items, if you love burgers they have something great for you. Potato skins are quite unique if you are into those, and yes their accompanying onion rings and roasted potatoes are absolutely lovely. Sometimes I wish they'd place a few more Onion rings, its a good thing really, the desire for more.... Tells you its a really great meal. A bit pricey, but if you wanted anything steak-ordinary you would have bought it from the supermarket and cooked it at home. Overall deserves great praise for a delightful meal with superb quality steak meals.

We called in for a light Thursday lunch and chose from the Specials BoardI chose the Chicken Mayo Sandwich and was disgusted with the quality of the meat which looked more like gizzards than chicken.     We hope our comments to the wait staff are passed on.      The great presentation of the food does not make up for poor quality - and Specials should not be of inferior qualityWe have dined here twice before with friends - so this was really disappointing

Potatoe skins are off the hook delicious. Definitely recommend as an entree or bar snack. Cheese and garlic bread was delicious, so hot and cheesey! Buffalo wings were good too. Had the pork belly and blue cheese salad for a main, and it made me sad. It was one of those salads where everything is on top and all the salad is underneath but the bowl isn't big enough to mix it all through. This seemed more like a salad you would take to a picnic and serve with big salad spoons. Was not easy to eat and I wish I got the chicken one. <br/><br/>Really wanted to try a thick shake but I was so full. The desserts sound like a stoners dream. I think I will go back just for one. <br/><br/>Atmosphere was good, service was friendly and fast. I think the lights should be dimmed for dinner, was quite bright.

I'm a huge steak fan, was seated waited half an hour for someone to even take our drink order I had to go to the bar and ask to be served waited about 40 mins then a waiter came and told us there was no more pasta and my partner had to re order it took another 40 mins for the food to come. Only thing that saved it was the fact everything tasted amazing mine had been rested a little to long but still want to try it again the steak was the best I've had ever.
Taran
The food was undoubtedly delicious, I got the Hawaiian burger, lots of food but good food. The only thing is that we went on Thursday night and maybe it was busy but still doesn't mean the service should be slow. We placed our orders and waited and waited for our food for almost an hour!
Susan Webster
My husband and I dined here last night and unfortunately would not go back again.  I understand it was a Saturday night, 2 weeks before xmas and they were busy, however, waiting for over an hour to get steak and chips was not good enough.  We love a good steak and looked forward to tender steak.  My scotch fillet was NOT tender, it was disappointingly tough.  We were also disappointed to not get any greens or salad with our dish - steak, chips and onion rings was all you got.  How much does it cost to add a small portion of lettuce and/or tomato?  Won't be back.

6 of us dined here last night..... what a lovely experience. Entrees were ordered by all 2 prawn cocktails, 2 calamaris, 2 crumbed mushrooms. I had the prawn cocktail while it was nice it was pretty basic compared to the devine salt n pepper calamari i got to try, even the crumbed mushrooms i was told were devine too. So my bad on my entree ordering... However i am not the biggest meat eater but the medium well eye fillet i got for main was spectacular soft tender and devine. My husbands rare eye fillet was medium after us advising him to send it back he didnt but thats how i would of cooked it at home so he has eaten like that before even tho not his preference and im not a trained chef. Our table was very happy and look forward to returning again. A must have is trying the Jellybean cocktail fantastic so glad i wasnt driving... staff and service was excellent, what a nice gem in Pakuranga.

Dined here for a Christmas work function!<br/><br/> Let me say the decor of this place is very modern and clean. It's a very big restaurant and can cater for many! Large booths, large tables, and smaller tables, very well planned out and spacious great for people wanting to dine and have conversations!<br/> Very please with the service, staff are very attentive especially since I arrived when my table were receiving their mains haha. I ordered not long after and just as everyone finished their meals my Sirlion & Scallops main came. <br/> Very quick in my opinion, I was pleasantly surprised ☺️<br/><br/>My main was absolutely delicious, creamy garlic sauce with two scallops and a decent sized sirloin steak. The onion rings here are SO GOOD! Beautiful crunchy batter full of onion goodness. My fries however were rather mushy, I wish there were crunchier.<br/><br/> Over all, everyone on the table enjoyed their dishes (party of 10). Food came out all together for them which is nice, mine came not long after as I ordered when their food came. <br/><br/> A tad on the pricier side in my opinion, my main and drink came to $42~ but all in all, I'd give this restaurant another go if I'm in the area! And I'd recommend you go in you like your steaks!

The food was Ok but service from the wait staff was really bad, waved around for someone to attend my table but nobody responded, the young male waiter saw me waving but walked away, not once but twice which is totally unacceptable. With no good customer services given, you will lose your customer.

Had a nice nightout a few months back with my partner's family, although the meals took some time to be delivered the food was delicious. Can't wait for our next visit :)

Got a seat on a Sunday night, not too busy but restaurant was fairly full. Quick and friendly service. Steak was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing so juicy! Would probably come again just because they do amazing steaks!

The food here is delicious and fresh, I love their steak and baked potatoe with sour cream &garlic butter. Staff are always friendly. I have been here a few times since opening and dinner time is always quite full and lunch time during the weekend is quite full. Booking is quite essential. The only downside is the waiting time. No matter if they are fully booked or if we come in for late lunch/early dinner with only 3-4 tables occupied the wait is always unnecessarily long. I think I would come more often if it wasn't for the waiting time.

Porterhouse Grill is located in Pakuranga mall where I used to work. I went there when it just opened up, and got their light menu which i really enjoyed. <br/>I went there with my boyfriend last night and we got ourselves a calamari to start and steak for him. Ribs for me. The ribs was alright, some part was really dry and rest was fine. Their garlic mash is very yummy. My boyfriends steak was cooked to perfection. It was still juicy inside and was a perfect medium rare. However he was a little disappointed at their garlic sauce. Overall it was good, and pricing is good too. Staffs were really friendly as well.

I’ve dined here on multiple occasions now and have had mixed experiences each time. <br/><br/>Pros: Stick to the steak! - they definitely do this well. My eye fillets have been cooked to perfection each time (the mushroom sauce is gooooooddd). The cheese and garlic bread too is yum! Generous amount of cheese topped on a sourdough like bread. Yum! Modern, rustic decor that perfectly suits the restaurant! Plenty of seating too which is great. Great lunch specials too - i love how they change it often enough :-)<br/><br/>Cons: Although there has been an improvement in the standard of the service, personally I think the service is still poor. No communication between staff. Sometimes multiple people will ask to take our order, check ID and sometimes no one will greet us despite all standing there free. Food takes a while to be served, even when the restaurant is half-full. <br/><br/>

I came here for lunch with my beautiful sister. She told me this place was yum so we decided to come and try it out. I got the calamari with chips and she got the chicken burger with chips and garlic bread to share. I really enjoyed our meals as it was a big portion with a reasonable price. Would definitely come back here again!

We came in for a midweek lunch - while not earth-shattering, the food was nice and the service was friendly and efficient. We wondered why only three tables were taken in such a huge place .We returned the following Saturday at 12 pm, ordered and waited. No food seemed to be coming out of the kitchen at all. At 12.30 we finally saw our two ordered meals appear at the pass. There were four staff: three were fiddling with tills or polishing glasses, and one was on the floor taking an order. When she'd taken it, she went by the pass ignoring the food that was there. The kitchen staff rang the bell for service three times, with no visible effect. Several more meals appeared at the pass and a server took those immediately to a table, still ignoring our two meals that were sitting there. We saw the kitchen staff shuffling them around under the lights trying to keep them warm We finally received them ten minutes later, at which point they were cold. Faced with the prospect of re-warmed burgers and potato skins (ugh) we left at this point. Now we understood why so few people were there.

Very poor service. I went once  with my mom and enjoyed the lunch special the seafood chowder and the beef brisket burger with potato skin. Returned there again today with my family the staff completely ignoring us and not giving us the menu. It was definitely busy that time but not giving us the menu having no disregard for us we were quite angry so we left and went to another restaurant. Very bad service.

Ate with family today at this restaurant for dinner.<br/><br/>The first waitress was very awkward and we left a tad neglected even thought she served us water as it took a good 10 minutes for us to take an order. We had to signal her to come over and it shouldn't be that way.<br/><br/>I ordered the new York strip and a glass of red.<br/><br/>We all had our drinks served and it took a good 10-15 mins to get our order; typical for a dine in restaurant<br/><br/>The strip was nicely cooked and the accompanied mash was very delicious. One thing that I didn't like was the amount of pepper it made the steak so spicy.<br/><br/>The mushroom sauce was excellent.<br/><br/>We had dessert next and I ordered the creme brulee. The top was nicely crisp and the custard had a firm and creamy textured. Not too sweet which was really pleasing. It had biscotti with it and it it was slightly disappointing - it tasted like it wasn't cooked properly - it tasted like flour. It definitely wasn't needed with the dish and chef could leave it out!<br/><br/>The 2nd waitress was very friendly and attention - I liked here.<br/><br/>3.5 rating because of the food and the waitress.

A pretty solid family steakhouse grill restaurant. Our steaks were done right (we asked for medium) , so pretty pleased with that. You can really tell that the meat was very well marinated. <br/><br/>What really surprised me was the crumbed mushrooms entree - the portions were generous... and delicious. It felt like an entree you'd find in some of the other top restaurants in the city centre! :) <br/><br/>I wished we did stay on for desserts, but we were pretty stuffed after finishing our mains. What could really improve the rating would be the customer service. It was hard to flag down the waitress, and they didn't seem to know how to recommend or know which dishes to 'sell' to us when asked.

Excellent food 5* atmosphere. Family friendly. Eaten here a few times now and there is never an issue even when our baby is having a melt down. Lovely staff.<br/>

I guess you'd say that we were underwhelmed rather than disappointed with the Porterhouse grill. Steaks were well cooked and enjoyable, sauces were pretty gluggy - one base flavored to make different sauces.<br/>No one particularly liked their desserts <br/>Not a complete fail but just felt really uninspiring for the price.

If steak is your thing then this place is a must try. Aged Sirloin was one of best steaks I have eaten. The pot of pepper sauce barely got touched because the meat was so tasty. I eat my steak blue rare and it was very tender.

Has been 'okay' previously but VERY unimpressed this visit. 4 friends dined on a Wednesday evening. 3 had the rump steak, which was much smaller than previous visits but cold in the middle and certainly not hot right through. Fries were very average whilst onion rings were luke warm too. Service wasn't as slow as previously but lacked personality and the waitress spilled a glass of beer on me with minimal apology.....although towels were provided to dry off! Compensation offered was no charge for the replacement glass of beer, which they clearly deemed fair, whilst I went home smelling like a brewery. Emailed Manager to advise of bad experience and didn't even get a reply! Very disappointing so we'll eat elsewhere from now on. Shame, because we're all locals, and locals talk, and the area needs a good steakhouse.

I've heard a lot of good comments about its food -  well-cooked & good size meat. Today I had a chance to enjoy its steaks with some friends. We started with cheese & garlic loaf which was warm & rich in melted cheese. My friends then had prime rib & Roquefort fillet with crispy bacon, while I had the T-bone; they all came with onion rings & a choice of potatoes. I must say, I totally enjoyed the dinner & I'll definitely be back soon. (Food - 4.5/5; Service - 4.5/5; Ambience - 4/5)

Great that this place has been renovated for its opening, looks a bit classy for its rustic style food, ironic contrast. Great portions that are really filling, definitely great value. Aside from the obvious steaks, the pies here are also very hearty, particularly the homemade pie. The best dishes here are quite heavy (steak, pies, sandwiches and burgers), so would certainly recommend ordering some of their salads or something light to balance out the meal. The service is is great, all the waitresses are nice and attentive. Think most of the times this place is quite quiet, maybe due to the big size of the premise, really want this place to do well and pick up momentum in its popularity (it's really the only decent place to eat in the plaza there...)!

Came here on a quiet Thursday evening. The decor was really nice and inviting, quite modern with a few booths around and nice big tables. The staff were really lovely, and explained the menu to us (no vegetable sides with the steaks but do come with a choice of mashed or baked potato or fries and onion rings). We ordered two of the Mushroom Cheddar Melt's (rump steak topped with mushroom sauce and melted cheese), a side of vegetables and crispy potato skins with sweet chilli sauce and sour cream. The steaks were generous (however only slightly over-done for medium-rare), the sauce absolutely delicious, and the mashed potato was so flavoursome and creamy. Nice crunchy onion rings also. The potato skins were amazing - sooo tasty and really crunchy. I really liked the side of vegetables too which completed the meal - a mix of zucchini, pumpkin, broccoli and carrot. I'll definitely be back for more :)

Situated in the pakuranga mall complex. It was rather weird and odd going inside a closed mall on a Friday night. Walking down the brick road to the very end where this restaurant is situated at. We were relieved to see it was buzzing and bright and fill of people. Definitely glad that we made a booking in advance. It was a little hard trying to wave servers down to take our order. We had ceviche and cheesy garlic bread to start. They were devine. Garlic bread was made with garlic infused oil, it was soft and fluffy. The ceviche was served with tortilla chips, which is something new. But to our delight it was the perfect combo of crisps and raw-ness. I got a mojito which I found wasn't limey enough even though I requested extra limes and it took me a long while to get some extra limes. But the other drinks (chocolate, vanilla, and banana thick shake and a blue cacao cocktail) were all delightful. The steak however wasn't the best. I ordered a scallop sirlion medium rare and it was more towards a medium well. My partner ordered a rib eye rare and it was more medium rare-ish. The scallops on my plate were cooked perfectly and the sides were more than plentiful. To me this place is more like and upgraded version of Lone Star, not horrible but, not exactly a restaurant. More like a bar. However, I would return though. <br/><br/><br/>Food: 4/5<br/>Drinks: 4/5<br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Atmosphere: 4.5/5 (decor is nice, its spacious, and comfortable seating)<br/>Value for money 3.5/5 (on the slight pricier side for a grill/bar) <br/>

The food was alright nothing wrong with the service but had to give my steak back three times and they ended up burning it. The food was very bland the patato i got was rubbish. My wifes prawn cocktail was a let down as it had not flavour. Not a good experience will not be going back. They need to train their cooks on how to cook steak properly.

Porterhouse Grill is a much more casual restaurant than it seems. A lovely atmosphere, very relaxed. Our group of 4 came here for my birthday dinner and upon recommendation from my boyfriend, I ordered the Lazy Aged Sirloin, medium rare, with Bearnaise sauce and french fries. The food was extremely fulling - although quite expensive but it is expected for quality steak - and the fries and sauce were delicious! However, I was very disappointed that my request for "medium rare" seemed to match the description on the menu for "rare." I recommend to anyone that goes to order your meat to be done one up from what you want, especially for the thicker steaks. The waiters/waitresses had excellent customer service, however I felt a bit rushed to finish my meal when they are constantly coming over asking if we are finished. Nevertheless, it is a good restaurant that provides good food and I would definitely recommend if you have a bit of money and are feeling some quality steak!
Lucy
The portions were huge and couldn't finish my whole meal. The steak was very good quality and the staff was great. We got the food faster than I did last time. The previous time I went to porterhouse my mother almost walked out from how long the food took to come out. I ordered a lazy aged steak with mushroom sauce and chips. I ordered medium rare but it came out just rare. Was edible however was disappointing, most people would have sent it back. My friends steak was also rare but she order medium rare. I would suggest ordering a medium if you wanted a medium rare steak. Especially for the thicker steaks.
Cindy Ong
We ordered steaks and pork ribs. Pork ribs were very good but my steak was cold. My steak came with 2 scallops and grilled potato. Potato was delicious. Coffee was not good at all. Sorry to say I don't like this place.
Katie Anne
Really good place to eat if you love your meat! Huge portions and the food is cooked really well and customised the way you like it. There's lots of seating so can even cater for large groups! Every time the service has been great 😀<br/>

Been here a few times and it's pretty average. One good thing is it is never packed BUT the service is INCREDIBLY slow. Despite being one of two tables waiting for our food, it took them over half an hour to serve and the most expensive of our meal was terrible. My sister ordered the New York steak and it was so burnt and bitter. Even the mushroom sauce tasted like burnt liquid. I was hoping the mash would be better but it tasted like water and potato mashed up with bare seasoning (as if there were no cream or butter or milk added). Even pak n save sells better potato mash. We didn't complain to the staff about it but we definitely would not go back for the steak. Now on to the good stuff. I loved the seafood chowder. It was creamy and perfect seasoning. Only if you don't mind something really rich and oily (the bread was drenched in oil). We also had the beef and beetroot burger and it was amazing! So tasty and the skin crisps..WOW. Their fish and chip dish is very average and their beef/cheeseburger is also very average. I think you have to select the right dishes otherwise it's just too expensive to eat rubbish.

Steak was absolute the best I've had so far. But it took at least half an hour waiting for the meal but I guess it's worth. I had the mushroom cheesy melt with rump, (2nd pic) I chose medium but I felt like it was a little bit under cooked :/ maybe the kitchen was rushing as they had a full house on Friday night. The sauce was amazing I loved it so much and the portion was more than enough. Their chunky chips and onion rings are just perfect. The New York strip was very tender and the pasta was very fulfilling, large portion was given. Overall I loved it! would come back again and will definitely recommend a try!

We have tried this place out for dinner and lunch a couple of times and I can vouch that the service and food is good! <br/>Staff are always nice and attentive. The quality of food is mostly consistent and delicious! The only downfall is the time it takes for the food to arrive!<br/><br/>This restaurant is our local and we are happy to continue dining here :)<br/><br/>Here's a photo of our lunch today! Nomnom

Porterhouse Grill markets itself as an upmarket steakhouse with premium cuts; although my family and I had a good meal here, I would consider Porterhouse as an excellent local steakhouse rather than a restaurant worth a detour. The pepper sauce was a tad overpowering, and I became very good friends with my glass of wine. Service is casual (no minus points for this, as I did mention this is more of a casual restaurant), but could be a tad more attentive.

Dined here on Saturday, Had to search really hard for a carpark due to the Night Market traffic. Restaurant was very busy but we had made a reservation. Initial impression was just how plain everything looked. Large L shaped layout, with a few dividers, sort of like a big cafeteria. Staff were very welcoming and the whole place gave off a good vibe. <br/><br/>Waitress was fantastic, patient and helpful. Our meals all arrived at the same time. The steaks were nice and hot, looked and smelled delicious and the sizes were very generous. The side dishes were limited we thought, but really the steaks were so nice they didn't need a lot of support. We thought we had enough room for dessert, but for the first time ever in my experience, they proved too much for us. No-one could finish their dessert. The portions in my opinion are far too big. The next time we go we will make a point of sharing.<br/><br/>The only negative (for me anyway) was the manager? who tried to hurry us up with ordering our desserts. As mentioned, the place was really busy, and I think he was desperate to clear a table to make room for a rather large group that was waiting in the dining area, which must have been making it unpleasant for nearby tables.<br/><br/>However all in all, we enjoyed our visit and definitely will go back again.

Have been a few times for dinner and the food and service has always been great! Went for lunch the other day and the restaurant wasn't very busy at all but took around 40minutes for our two sandwiches to come out. Was just an inconvenience as we had somewhere to be. Food was very enjoyable none the less. Will definitely be going back in future

Went here last night with the boyfriend and one of our best friends, and it was GREAT! Wonderful atmosphere, it wasn't too packed and they were playing the best old school music - which we all really enjoyed.<br/><br/>After looking at the menu, we decided to share the Garlic Cheese Bread and Crumbed Mushrooms. The bread was nice, but I probably wouldn't reorder it - however, the mushrooms were all kinds of amazing. Seriously, I would go back for those alone - they were that good!! Definitely recommend if you're a mushroom fan. <br/><br/>For our mains, I ordered the Rump steak (with garlic mash of course) and the boys both ordered the Steak & Ribs combo. We all really enjoyed them, and were SO happy with how our steaks were cooked exactly how we wanted. We all chose the mushroom sauce to accompany it and wow... it was really tasty.<br/><br/>I'd wanted to go to a steak restaurant for the longest time, and I have to say this pretty much lived up to all my expectations. It was just good, hearty food - with pretty generous portion sizes!<br/><br/>My boyfriend had to try the dessert - New York Baked Cheesecake, and said it was pretty good. <br/><br/>Overall we were really happy with the service (our waitress was lovely!), the atmosphere and the food (so much so that I didn't even get pics of it #fail). We will definitely be going back again!

Thanks to Adrian and his team, we had a blast, 3 Adults & 4 kids, the food and restaurant is an absolute gem, finally a local Steak place without having to travel to the CBD. Well priced and the food is definitely tasty and worth the wait as stated on their menu. From when we entered to when we left, the service was great. A classy sophisticated feel, décor is divine and is certainly fine dining without the huge price tag. We were a very happy family, 40+ with  teenage and toddler children - all very satisfied and definitely looking forward to returning this evening. We have invited family from Overseas and Wellington to dine with us to celebrate ones Graduation, I am sure it speaks for itself that we could be returning in the same week, its definitely worth it :-)

Saturday night, table for two. I'm not a great steak eater so I order a Porterhouse burger, and daughter ordered Chicken Schnitzel. We decided not to order an entrée so that we could have dessert as well. <br/><br/>Service overall was pretty average - not good not bad. Same could be said for the food! The chunky chips that came with the food seemed to be well cooked on the outside, but not so well cooked the inside..could it be they just came from the freezer and straight into the deep fryer!? ..and where is my frikin water that I ordered....no worries, I don't mind asking twice :( <br/><br/>As I chowed down on my Porterhouse burger, I couldn't help but feel that there were superior options from Burger Fuel down the road. After our mains, we decided not to have dessert since no one asked, and because we didn't want to be disappointed.<br/>It is one of those well lit places with identical furniture that was designed by an interior decorator with OCD...it needs something to make it more homely and give it character.<br/>Would I go back again? ...hmm dunno definitely wouldn't go outa my way to eat there again, but if I was in the area, I may consider it.....who knows...

Went to porterhouse today for lunch, started out great, nice waitress very helpful.<br/>Our food came, just as we had ordered it minis the chips. All good because all restaurants we go to they come and ask how everything is going. This didnt happen, also our plates were not cleared away, and no water was offered . In fact no one came back to our table the rest of the time we were there. When we paid the bill at the counter the girl asked us how everything was, when I explained what had happened she rolled her eyes as if it was our fault. Will never be coming back and will be telling all our friends shame on you.
@KeraBearEats
Big food in big portions = me very happy!<br/><br/>Nice location, lots of parking (unless the night markets are on which can be a pain...), lovely modern and sleek interior, great menu selection, good food, and nice service.
Sarah Thomas
Huge meals & beautifully cooked. We had the steak & baked potato. Nice atmosphere & very tasty food. Good friendly service too. Nice resteraunt.
Steve
Sunday night and it's 6:30 on Anzac weekend. The staff were super friendly and attentive. Of course I had to try the ribs, perfectly cooked and just the right amount of sauce, not really a spicy or the typical sweet sauce, just very subtle flavoring with a few herbs to top it off. Other dish at the table was the salmon, again nothing crazy on the flavor front just nice. Would happily come back for a nice family dinner.
April Kane
Have recently dined at the Porterhouse Grill several times, and have never had anything but exceptional experiences. The food is high quality, and are of massive portions too! The service was well above average. We have had several different staff members serve us and all are friendly and very helpful. Best local place to eat in my opinion. Have recommended to all our friends!
Mike Rapana
Was really happy with the food & the service. Had the seafood chowder which was delicious and a decent serving size. Can be a little pricey depending on what you are craving for, but quality does cost a little more so well worth it i think.
Pralene Holmes
Great meal. Great portions. Highly recommended. Awesome steak. Restaurant is really modern and is the perfect venue for your next meal. Great service.
Jason Paul Garcia
Had dinner with a friend here and all I can say is that the dining experience is memorable. Ordered Steak and Ribs which tasted heavenly even without the sauce. The pepper sauce on the hand is to die for which complented the my steak wonderfully. In addition the portion has tamed the carnivore in me. So if you're within the Pakuranga Manukau area and youre craving for a good steak Porterhouse Grill is the one to go for
Charlie Lam
I've been here about 3-4 Times so Can confidently say I can give a justified review for this. The staff for one is superb and always provide the a 5 star customer service. The restaurant is beautiful in it's atmosphere, seating and arrangement. Everytime we have been here we have had the eyefillet ( we are big steak lovers! ) And it is cooked absolutely on point every time. I have had it medium and medium rare before and all were cooked perfectly, same with my partners meals. They provide an AMAZING proportion of food. Trust me, a full big portion of side and onion rings in additional is the way to top it off. I think this the only restaurant which provides such a high quality of meat and meal without being stingy on the sides. Their prices reflect the fine dining they provide but for the other places such as the Orbit, The Grill; this is a very well priced restaurant without the pricetag.I would recommend anyone to this restaurant and will continue being a regular. You have won me over as the best steakhouse I have been to! :)
Bubut
This is one place I can go back to without hesitation. Been here a couple of times. Place is with good decor the staff are all very cheery and attentive and the food is glorious. The garlic loaf is to die for. The steak is cooked to perfection and the cheesecake is so yummy. So far this tops my list.
Charlie
I saw this place while attending night markets and decided to give it a try. It has a amazing ambience and a 5 Star dining alike attire. I can assure you all the staff are VERY attentive, not sure why some people thought different. We thought the outside area was such a good idea and provided a nice atmosphere. Both times I've been there we both had the Eye fillet with Garlic Mash. Let me just say that the second time we went - this place was absolutely FULL. Yet they kept the eyefillet to a 10/10. Perfectly cooked medium and not a doubt in my mind the extra onion rings are to die for. Not only do you get a good steak, you get these little extras and I would much rather this than Lonestar/Orbit/Euro. The Mash was big in size and could share between me and my partner. This is worth a try and can guarantee you won't be disappointed! The Price point is something affordable yet fancy without the massive pricetag the central city provides,

I have been here a couple of times already. both for dinner. The food was delicious and was served pretty fast. Steak was cooked perfectly.
Jayden Campbell
Very impressed with the ambiemce and comfort. I ordered a pork belly which was cooked to perfection. My partner ordered fettucini pasta which lacked flavour but the rest of our table loved their meat.
Jeremy Chen
Loved the Hawaiian hamburger that comes with onion rings and garlic mash! They were absolutely delicious. The price was reasonable too and I was left feeling very full.
Susann Glatt
Very average, Actually not even average.<br/><br/>Two out of three of our party very disappointed. Apparently the lamb shanks were great, which is good. But the mashed potato tasted like its reconstituted. The prawn cocktail was relatively flavourless, as was the chicken schnitzel. And the pork belly salad was pretty awful. Service was well intentioned but average. This food is quite simply cooked and designed without love.<br/>My advice, avoid.
Paul
Had a few meals here, and the food is excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful. If anything not according to your tastes, Adrian the owner will deal with it.
Lydia
Porterhouse's taste is good but it's too expensive. I went there with my boyfriend, $80 for 2 people. From stakes point of view, it's better than some stakes restaurants.
Kaim Argonar
Was always curious about the Porterhouse grill. Went there with my girlfriend a few months ago and had dinner.<br/><br/>Long story short, food was good but way over priced.<br/><br/>Yes, they do a good steak, but I'd rather pay less and have a not so good steak but still good steak, if that makes sense...
Jemimah
Porterhouse Grill is a good local steak house serving perfectly cooked good quality steaks. If you order medium rare, you can be quarantined to be served medium rare. <br/>The onion rings which come with the steaks are always a favourite as well as the garlic mash. Make sure to have a light lunch as you will need as much space as possible for this meal
Bill Chien
Great place if you are looking for a good piece of steak to eat! Good service and meals come out pretty fast. Although the seating arrangement in the restaurant was very strange.
Miss Kiki
Came here a while ago, my husband had the ribs and I had the calamari and steak combo. Be warned that the sizes are huge! And delicious. We came here quite late on a Monday t and the place was packed. <br/>The wait time for the food was quite a while, but we were told that this will be the case when we ordered. <br/>My only complaint is on the night we were there it was freezing cold, and there was a door on the side that kept opening and the people who sat by that door kept locking it. I'm not sure why they use this door in winter but every table that sat near the door would just get annoyed every time it opened because it was so annoying!
Michelle Wells
Prawn cocktail a huge let down .. Not prawns but shrimps and a bland sauce. Very average. Big menu and staff need training. Not for big groups
Neil Jones
Great food good value . Service not bad.

I dont have much experience with steak<br/> However I am fussy when it comes to steak, I dont like fat and it has to be a good cut. The vibe in the restaurant is family friendly while also very welcoming to adult groups too. I ordered the 300g eye fillet with garlic mash potatoes. The steak melted in my mouth, it was amazing. I asked for medium well done and it was exactly that. My fiancé ordered the 1kg steak! They brought it out and lets just say we got lots of looks and people staring while he ate it. The image attached is of his 1kg steak. Overall great experience, I would suggest they play background music or make that louder. Then maybe on Friday and Saturdays that they have a small band or one man band playing from about 8pm to keep people at the restaurant. Easy parking too!
Lex Antony Huang
Love the peppercorn sauce
Shirlene
Very nice food, and a lovely modern, clean place.  We ordered 5 mains and got them all at the same time - no surprises.  Nice kids meals as well.  The only downside was the kids drinks were a little on the small side.  Would certainly go back!
Whyte Toni
Would have liked to take the family to this restaurant for Fathers Day,<br/>However have been informed upon trying to reserve a table that they do not supply childrens highchairs.  <br/>So I can only assume its not a kiddy friendly restaurant.<br/>Such  a shame :(
Karl Sullivan
I went to the restaurant a few weeks ago with my family, the food was amazing! I had The Porterhouse Burger with the Peppercorn sauce, a side of fries and onion rings. Huge portions and the pepper sauce was amazing!! Very friendly staff, and although the restaurant was very busy, the food still came to our table in a very reasonable time! It's a very nice, modern, family friendly restaurant! I will definitely be back!! :)
DM
Nice place and fantastic food!! Hawaiian burger is always my favourite!!

The food is good - some things are really good like the steak when it's cooked properly, but other areas let them down -  for eg., you don't get quality icecream, it's soft serve.  The service is appalling!!We encountered all of these issues at dinner last night:1  No water for the table, regardless of how many times we asked - and it was about 25 degrees inside!<br/>2 No cutlery after our entrees for our main meals.<br/>3 A pregnant woman's steak ordered medium-well done with a specific request for no blood was delivered to the table medium rare, and the same plate was returned a while later with overcooked, half dried up sauce.<br/>4 They forgot our sides of vegetables, which finally arrived after some of us had finished our meals.<br/>5 They messed up our dessert/coffee order and it took about 20 minutes after the first half of the coffees arrived to get the other half.<br/>6 No cutlery for some of the desserts.<br/>7 No apology from the Manager, even though he came over to our table a minute after our coffees finally arrived.  Apparently, to tell us about their fantastic Agria potatoes from Pukekohe which really aren't that awesome.<br/>8 No compensation was offered for all this poor service.  The only thing deducted from the bill was the dessert we didn't order. It's such a shame.  With proper staff training, a good manager and some quality control Porterhouse could be a really good restaurant.  As it stands, I wouldn't recommend it.

We too had a poor experience at Porterhouse Grill ... it was my birthday and we got the entire family together (some of them had travelled from Taranaki) to have dinner at Porterhouse. My wife ordered her steak Medium to Welldone (no blood) this was re-iterated to the waiter at the time ... unfortunately when the steak arrived it seemed to be even more rare than the "Medium Rare" that I had ordered ... so she asked the waiter if she could have a new steak ... as re-cooking the current one would ruin the sauces etc ... the waiter agreed and took it away.<br/><br/><br/><br/>Unfortunately a couple of minutes later the waiter came back with the same steak ... when we complained the manager was called by the waiter (he apparently owns the store) ... instead of being apologetic, he was adamant about defending his position saying that he had owned the store for 5.5 years, and had been in the industry for 14 years blah blah blah ... none of this was acceptable for us as we simply didn't like being deceived by bad service. No form of compensation was offered and by the time the confrontation with the "manager" had finished, everyone else was finishing up their meals ... so unfortunately my wife had to eat what she had been given.<br/><br/><br/><br/>To be honest, my steak wasn't great either ... and the drinks were over priced ... for the money we paid for our meals I'd prefer to go elsewhere. We definitely won't be coming back and will be telling people to avoid this place in the future.<br/><br/><br/><br/>The place was packed to the brim with people and obviously making a huge profit ... a little bit of "customer service" goes a long way sometimes, I hope my message gets out and that people stop coming to Porterhouse Grill.

I've gotten accustomed to the lacking customer service in East Auckland restaurants (I don't know why but the service is generally lacking compared to Central restaurants), so it was really no surprise to me when our young waitress seemed offhandish and unprofessional - although she DID do the job.<br/><br/>The lacking customer service was even more prominent when we were trying to order. We must have waited about 10 or 15 minutes to order, trying to get someone's attention, when there were clearly 4 waitresses standing behind the counter... not doing much except for avoiding our eyes. I think that in a restaurant like this there should always be at least one waitress on the floor attending to customers, or at the VERY least one keeping an eye out for customers that want to order extra food, drinks, an extra set of cutlery, etc. It's really not that difficult.<br/><br/>The meals on the other hand were great. The waiting time was short, our meals were served hot, servings were satisfyingly big and the beef patty in our burger was thick, juicy and just really good. The restaurant decor was also nice, really modern, clean and bright. This is one of my better experiences dining in this area and I'm quite happy to give it a 3/5 despite the disappointing customer service.

I heard a lot about Porterhouse and was excited to try it. I liked the venue, it was pretty classy. <br/><br/>However, the service and food were both disappointing. I had expected the quality of food and standard to be similar to that of Porterhouse in South Africa, but clearly wasn't. We had the cheesy garlic bread as a starter, it was just oily and didn't taste like garlic, just standard cheese melted over a roll. <br/><br/>The mains arrived 55 minutes later, and we didn't get any water at our table. Asked the waitress for water and still didn't receive it. I personally did not like the cheddamelt sauce used on the steak, totally not what I expected, it tasted like soup out of a packet. My steak was cooked really good tho (flavor wise and still juicy). The onion rings were average and chips tasted like cardboard. My partner ordered the Schnitzel. It tasted like vegetable oil. Once our meals were done, we had to go to the bar to get two glasses of water. Not impressed. Overpriced<br/><br/>Would not recommend.

I have had many meals here and cannot fault the food. Have had the wrong information given to me by the waitress as to the flavor of 'the pie of the day' and confusion with our order. But because I think the food is great I will continue to eat there
David Reid
The steak was good in both quality and size. The potato also OK and the waitress service excellent.<br/>The crumbed onion rings are a big NO. Also the side of vegetables was pumpkin and more potato. No greens at all!<br/>We would have expected more for the price.

Favourite local place to eat! I think I am becoming a regular now. The Goodie burger and Porterhouse Burger are always my go-to lunches. The patties are cooked well alongside with the fries and not to mention the exquisite tasting mushroom sauce. The more than generous portion size definitely covers your moneys worth! I can barely finish the whole plate of food and always end up taking it away. I went in a few days ago with a friend and she had the BLT sandwich. She was extremely delighted when she saw the large bowl of fries that followed.<br/><br/>The staff are lovely and will always go out of their way to make sure that you and the meals are okay which I think is always a bonus when going out to eat. The overall decor of the restaurant is great and stylish and is filled with a welcoming atmosphere. Pakuranga Plaza needed this for sure!!!

Made another visit to the best steak restaurant I have found here or Australia. We have made it a fortnightly mission to get a great meal. The steak is absolutely tender, juicy and cooked to perfection every time. I would recommend the pepper sauce to go with your steak, it has that fresh cracked and whole pepper taste with a little bit of heat. Looking forward to the next visit. The staff are polite and go out of their way to make your visit special.

What a disappointment. <br/><br/>When we got there for lunch there were four people in the place and we ordered and over an hour later we were asking where our mains were and spoke to the owner about the very long wait and he argued back that they were busy and was rude, no customer service skills whatsoever!<br/><br/>Food was average and the waitress kept apologising for the slow service but the kitchen staff obviously can't manage their orders. Won't be back there in a hurry nor recommend for other corporates to go there.
Natalie Pasco
The porterhouse steak was fatty and average. Not worth the money but the worst thing was the time it took to reach us (table of 2). When paying the guy in line said the same thing to the owner and was told 'I'll have a word to my chefs about it' I think the restaurant is too big for the size of the kitchen. Don't go there if you aren't prepared to wait over an hour!
Hamish Ross
Save your money and go to McDonald's - at least the experience is quicker.<br/><br/>Had to wait an hour for an inedible porterhouse steak (the namesake dish?).<br/><br/>The goods news: was not charged for it and the waitresses are pleasant and try hard but are let down by an inept kitchen. <br/><br/>Message - don't take bookings if you can't serve a meal within 20 minutes, and try and serve meat that is fresh.
Scott Mansell
Appalling. Booked at 6pm with a child. Overpriced mains arrived at 8.10pm. If you are going to have that many tables you need a kitchen that can cope. We only got our mains after we threatened to leave. My Med-Rare steak was overdone, the chips cold.<br/><br/>Will not be back

Everything started very well- excellently presented place, everyone's food looked great as did the menu and the Maitre D was very friendly.<br/>We came in for just coffee and dessert- coffees were fine but service for our desserts was very slow, at least 45 minute wait for rather simple items.<br/>Partner had the waffle with ice cream- ice cream was soft serve which was a disappointment.<br/>I had the lemon meringue pie- good flavour but was an a mini individual pie that was mostly crust and meringue (which was mainly crunchy/hard, not soft and marshmellow-y). Sadly with a side of soft serve ice cream.<br/>Just felt a tad ripped off of the quality and presentation for the price and wait. Felt very Cob and Co 1980's.<br/>Desserts seem to be a menu after thought and and could very easily be much better.<br/>Wouldn't go for dessert but would be tempted to return for the mains if the wait time wasn't so long. This place is local for us, and we wanted it to be good :(

Having read a few past reviews, I note that they are mostly 5 star or 1-2. I think there must be 2 distinct crews on deck and we got the not so good ones. Entrees were good as were the steaks but my chicken filo had to go back as the fries were stone cold. When it came back with hot fries a few minutes later, you guessed it; the chicken was dried up. The fries on all the other meals were warm at best. Out waitress was polite, but a bit of a smile and some personality would have helped. I told the cashier of the issues with the meals and that I didn't eat most of my re-heated chicken. She was sympathetic and said she would tell the kitchen, but not sympathetic enough to offer not to charge for my meal. Really disappointed as it had been talked up as a good new restaurant. I won't be back as there are a lot of good restaurants to go to around the area.

Our first visit to Porterhouse Grill was a luncheon for a special family occasion and it exceeded our expectations! <br/>Very friendly and accommodating staff, pleasant atmosphere with good lighting and very clean.<br/>We liked the menu and it was easy for us all to make our choices.<br/>We were impressed with the quality of the food. Steak was excellent. Great taste &amp; presentation and generous portions. Good value for money.<br/>For pudding - the Belgian waffle is scrumptious!<br/>We recommend Porterhouse and 5 stars :-)
Danielle Ruschenda Van Zyl
I have been to Porterhouse twice once with my family and the second time with friends. On both occasions the service was quick and food came out not too long after being ordered. Food was delicious and will definitely make it a point to go there every now and again. Friends and family loved it. 5 stars

Went for a family meal with another family, drinks order taken and served promptly. Meal order taken in reasonable time but took a while to arrive. My steak with mushroom sauce and garlic mash was good. My daughter had chicken fettuccini and was not impressed, for a group of 8 was good and service was good.

Meals took along time coming. Some things were left off order. Some were not cooked the way that they were asked to be. One meal was sent back. Overpriced...hamburger and chips with frozen meat patti!!!!!(Owner admitted that's what they use) Might as well got Carls Jnr would have been nicer and cheaper. Owner was rude when we went to pay and tried to explain that we, two people out of table of ten, had ordered an entrée that didn't turn up and wanted to make sure we weren't charged for it. We also had no apology for missing entrée off. He had a melt down and started raving on about checking the camera to prove that we had eaten it! Very unprofessional. Not enough staff and very inexperienced...would be ok for fast food outlet but not a restaurant expecting restaurant prices to be paid. I'm a local and will warn others not to go
Lois Kerr
The only good thing about this new restaurant is the locality, the food is over priced & have had far better steak elsewhere, service poor - but I have to say this was not due to the fault of the staff but management trying to cram too many people in that they couldn't cope with in a seemly manner. Would not return.

Loved the interior and the service, however, the food lacked big time. I had the toughest lamb shank I've ever eaten it would've been great if there was a choice of vegies. My friend asked for a med/well steak and it was more rare than medium. Definitely not worth the money we paid, and I'm very disappointed in the food.

We went to Porterhouse for the first time this weekend, happy to have something new to try. The meals were good, but a bit pricey for what they were. My dish was the Chicken Filo, served with plain salad greens and potato mash (the choice was mash, baked potato or fries) - enjoyable, but not sure it was worth $29.90. <br/>I notice that another reviewer has complained about the lack of toilet paper in the ladies room, and we too had problems with a lack of toilet paper. One of the girls in our group came back to the table and mentioned this to the waitress. The waitress said she would arrange more, but 20-30 minutes later when someone else in our group used the bathroom, there was still none.<br/>The other issue we had was with the ambience, or lack of. The lighting is way too bright for a restaurant, and apparently could not be dimmed (as we were advised). Poor planning on the designers part as it felt like eating "in the waiting room of a train station" as one of our group described it, thanks to the overly bright glare. Music was also lacking - after a number of groups left and the noise levels dropped, we could hear that there was music faintly playing, but not piped throughout, it seemed to only be in one corner of the room.<br/>All that aside, the service was excellent and the wait staff very cheerful and friendly. We will probably come back as none of the issues listed were bad enough to put us off returning.

We had a large group booking 20+ people and I'd like to commend the waitresses! Great atmosphere, great food and great service --with such a big group we ordered a variety from the menu - starters were great (I had the mushroom - so yummy!) and steaks done to perfection! Highly recommended! <br/>Looking forward to my next visit! <br/>Thanks for a lovely evening!

I was looking forward to a great evening meal with some of my family. <br/><br/>Extremely disappointed, 55 minute wait for meals to arrive and only after asking how much longer would we be waiting was a verbal apology offered for delay with we have had 100 covers tonight sorry.... Don't accept bookings if you can't cope.<br/> Eventually our meals arrived and my Scotch fillet was awful, inedible, chewy and over cooked (med rare ordered and med well done served). <br/>I refused to pay for my steak and after the manager viewed my steak, this was accepted. <br/>I was told they were looking at their supplier. A bit late when a family meal out has been spoiled.<br/>The other 3 meals were satisfactory but nothing great. My husband's med / well done steak arrived rare! I or my family, unfortunately, will not be a patron again. <br/>Only positive was friendly staff but obviously not enough to cope in kitchen.

This is our new favorite restaurant. We frequent Porterhouse a few times a month ever since it opened. The food is outstanding and the service has been great. The manager also personally visits our table (as with others) and checks on us and our food we order. Both friendly and polite. The restaurant is a 2 minute drive/walk from our house in Pakuranga, so its perfect for us. <br/><br/>I have personally been trying every dish I can on the menu each visit and have not found one single thing wrong each time. My personal favorite would have to be the 500g porterhouse, that thing is a serious piece of meat. The same can be said about the deserts, but I'll always keep going back to that waffle, YUM!<br/><br/>My only gripes would be other customers who have no respect for this restaurant and come dressed like they just walked off the beach, at least put some shoes on. I also find it funny that my sister has posted a 1-star review here, with little knowledge/understanding of the words 'porterhouse' or 'grill.<br/><br/>Anyway, love this place, love the food, keep up the good work boss!

Absolutely excellent steaks. Like, mouthwatering.<br/>I had the Roquefort, which was a thick 'gourmet' eye fillet steak, topped with a delicious blue-cheese and garlic creamy sauce, accompanied by crispy pieces of bacon. The beautiful sauce had a hint of a fondue taste about it. It was SO good! The onion rings were surprisingly ungreasy and very moreish (top marks), and my baked potato was great.<br/><br/>I followed this with a sensational sticky-date pudding.<br/>So my 5 stars are for the utterly delicious thick steak and the sticky-date pud.<br/><br/>The restaurant was really great for our 2-family party with a couple of 5 year olds. The booth setting helped us to keep them mostly contained for our very enjoyable 3-hour dining experience! Crayons &amp; pictures for the kids were a great idea, and staff were really sweet with the kids. The wait-time for our meals was longer than your average restaurant, but that's totally fine if you're in for a long leisurely evening, which we were, and they offered to bring the kids meals out first, which was perfect.<br/><br/>My one recommendation would be around staff training. We had the lovely sweetest waitress, courteous and helpful. But there's a need for some training on pouring beers. Mine had a head on it the height of the Great Wall of China! (poured from the bottle straight into the half-pint glass which was sitting flat on the table) Just sayin'!<br/><br/>All in all, a great evening. I highly recommend it to lovers of a good cut of prime steak.

We go to Pakuranga about once a month and had been looking forward to having breakfast and the new restaurant that looks amazing...Porterhouse Grill. Unfortunately the looks were deceiving. After placing our order for coffee we soon placed our breakfast....our coffee arrived approximately 20 minutes later....1 was warm the other a little warmer. Then waited another 20 minutes to arrive after asking the waitress to check on our order. The omelet and eggs were something that I could have expected from my 15 year old and the side of beans was tepid. At this time I still held my breath as the staff seemed quite young. After finishing my meal went to the bathroom to find no toilette paper and was reduced to tell the barrister my thoughts on the subject....I'm imagining that the other staff members would have understood that we were not happy by now. My partner proceeded to pay the bill with no apology or explanation of the unfortunate happenings to find we had been overcharged on our bill by two extra coffees and needed a refund for the over payment. <br/>The owner of the restaurant should rethink his staff requirements as they are too young to deal with situations like this and need to understand that the value of your meals are restaurant quality not home kitchen prices.

Yes! I read the 45+ reviews on MenuMania for this restaurant/Grill before writing my review. <br/>Some of the points that stood out from the reviews were; a) Drinks &amp; Food: time frames, between order taking &amp; delivering, b) Service standards &amp; Drinks &amp; c) The food itself &amp; pricing. <br/>I would have been understandably daunted to step in to Porterhouse Grill Pakuranga, anticipating the above myself if I had read the reviews beforehand. <br/>Delighted to say, I had the most pleasant dining experience which I share with you in light of so much negative feedback. I was ushered in graciously &amp; seated most comfortably. I liked the welcoming decor, and with the recommendation of the wait staff, enjoyed an excellent glass of wine speedily served by the most helpful staff who then guided me knowledgeably in ordering the best combination of the steak &amp; accompaniments. The meal arrived in a fair time &amp; I did not experience any delays while sipping the exquisite wine. The staff looked after my table very well &amp; I did not need to ask for anything, everything was efficiently delivered on time. The Steak was absolutely sensational &amp; I offered my heartfelt compliments to the Staff &amp; the Chef for this magnificent culinary masterpiece cooked to perfection. I am no Simon Gault or Anthony Bourdain, but I can tell a Great Steak when I have had one. The sides were superbly done the onion rings were perfectly done &amp; tasted divine, &amp; the real test was in the Roast Potato &amp; yes it passed with flying colors. The Pepper sauce with the Steak was superbly matched &amp; was just perfect in quantity, quality &amp; consistency. I unashamedly appreciate their culinary skills &amp; efforts in doing superb justice to their name &amp; in my dining experience in Pakuranga. It is a real pleasure to have such a delightful meal in such a convenient location. I must not forget the dessert, a Vanilla with streaks of chocolate dolloped in Kahlua adding a unique character, went down very well ending the meal superbly. All in all a very lovely experience, merits a full Five Stars. Not to forget another important test, the wash room. It too passed with flying colors. Overall I have to say I am certainly going there again some time very soon!

Nice setting - unfortunately that's about the only positive thing I have to say. My husband's steak was ok but the scotch fillet I ordered was so tough I doubted whether or not it was actually scotch ? I didn't know you could murder a scotch that bad ! (I had a sore jaw from chewing). Onion rings were nice. Mashed potato was weird - they were smooth enough but there was nothing creamy or int icing about them. Which is a shame as for me it is a treat to order them and I had expected them to be rich smooth and creamy. Bummer ! The wait staff were very sweet and tried hard to please but probably could do with more professional training. Such a shame - we need a decent local steakhouse. Hopefully owners read these and improve things.

Went in on a Saturday for breakfast and our experience was less than satisfactory. <br/>1. Mosquitos filled the restaurant. A problem staff did not tend to<br/>2. We waited 10 mins for somebody to take out drink order and then another 20 to receive them.<br/>3. 10 mins after taking our drink order another waitress comes over to take our food order of which we ended up waiting almost an hour for.<br/>4. After almost an hour of waiting for our food it comes out and is not hot, barely warm.<br/>5. waited about 15 mins in between receiving and eating our food for a jug of water. Which was then brought to us by yet another waitress.<br/>6. As you do we sat around talking after breakfast with dishes everywhere, not one offered to clear the table.<br/>Will not be going there ever again and do recommend that you don't either.<br/>Oh and by the way we were just one of 2 groups in the restaurant that morning. (4 ad 1 ch in ours and an elderly couple that walked in the same time as us)

My partner and I decided to have lunch at Porterhouse Grill on Monday. I had heard only good feedback so thought we would give it a go.<br/><br/>We entered and looked at the 2 x menus one being breakfast the other lunch and dinner. We had decided on breakfast but was told by the waitress breakfast is only served till midday. My partner ordered the cottage pie. The waitress came and advised there was no cottage pie. I ordered the salt n pepper squid. It was soggy and chewy. We ordered the lemon meringue pie. The waitress came and told us there was no lemon meringue pie.

We gave Porterhouse a try, given how there are very few steakhouses on this side of Auckland. <br/><br/>Food was rather disappointing. While the garlic loaf was good, the calamari was soggy. Steaks arrived and medium sirloins were raw in the middle in one end. Chips were barely cooked - resulting in a soft and tasteless flavour.<br/><br/>Service was a mixed-bag, depending on which waitress came to serve. It was obvious some were quite new and didn't have proper training - the steak knife was not held onto while retrieving plates and nearly dropped onto us - twice.<br/><br/>The only pro was the decor, but considering how much they are charging per meal.... better options available elsewhere.
Farhad Umrigar
Had my child's 1st birthday dinner with family there. Excellent service, knowledgeable staff, clean restaurant, clean toilets, great family atmosphere, great food, best eye fillet ever, child friendly. Will definitely go there again and recommend others to do so too.

I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant after reading the reviews and walking past, unfortunately the meal did not live up to expectations or the price that they are charging for meals.<br/><br/>First off was the wait, meals took over an hour to arrive - there is a note in the menu about the meals taking some time but an over an hour becomes an issue. When they arrived 4 or 5 people from the group had ordered the twice cooked pork belly, disaster. The skin was completely soft and no crackling whatsoever. All this dish tasted of was fat and could not even attempt more than 5 mouthfuls. A waitress commented to me that pork belly does have fat in it, yes have had it plenty of times so I am fully aware of that and never had one that fatty previously. A couple of the others ate theirs out of hunger.<br/><br/>On speaking to a waitress she apologised &amp; on talking to the kitchen said the pork belly was cooked in the sauce by error so no crackling &amp; we were bought a round of shots. Nice thought but we were charged full price except for the overcooked fish.<br/><br/>Overall a couple of the waitress were lovely but the food let this place down and expecting people to pay top tier pricing for below average food. Maybe an off night for the kitchen but won't return.

Had such a lovely dinner here on Valentines Day! Although the line outside was significant, they were prompt to seat us and gave us enough time to order our drinks. The wait staff were wonderful and although they were very busy, we were continuously checked on and were asked if we needed anything. At the beginning of the evening the owner/manager (not too sure who it was) came around to each table individually and told us that because they had a full house, there would be a wait. Although the rush was quite substantial, our food was ready as soon as it could have been. We both ordered the eye fillet and it was divine. Definitely a pricey restaurant, but you get what you pay for and I was more than happy to pay for my meal as it was a great value for money. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a well cooked piece of steak and also to support a great local restaurant. Will definitely be coming back again soon.

I have to give these guys a great review, me and a friend thought we would meet for a quick dinner. Staff were overall great, sure I got bugged a bit more than I needed and by several different girls very closely timed together. In fact when I wandered in the girl was asking me questions while on a work phone call but I can't really complain over the staff wanting to do a good job and look after you. It's the effort that counts so heaps of points for that. Lots to choose from on menu, I ordered the goodie burger. It's an Hawaiian burger with mushroom sauce!!! And what a burger that was, just divine. Meal was large and I knew I was in for a treat when it arrived. It was a burger on a plate with a side of fries, and a side salad...To be honest, I said to my friend, this is the nicest burger Ive ever had. My friend ordered the Porterhouse Burger, which is a burger with the choice of mushroom, pepper or creamy garlic. spoiled for choice on the sauces. I didn't hear a peep out of her so I knew she was enjoying it. My bill was 20 bucks, as I just had my meal and water, hers 30 as she had an entree and a coke, so I reckon go and buy no drinks its a cheap night out. When we left the owner asked what I thought of the burger which was nice of him, I said heavenly...he looked very chuffed. I really hope this place does well, good food, affordable, awesome burgers and attentive service. Well done I'll be back

We were a party of 11 for a catch up and frequent a lot of restaurants as a catch up. <br/>The Porterhouse is new and thought would give it a go. On arriving we entered through the biafold doors to be seated at our table. The decor is lovely.<br/>We were first to arrive and did not get offered a drink we had to go to the bar. <br/>On the rest of the table arriving no offer of drinks. <br/>The food was good but I believe way overpriced this would be Viaduct location. <br/>The service totally let this place down, the staff had no direction and could not remember who had what for their meal calling out what they had to serve very unprofessional. <br/>Incorrect meals were given and wrong sauces as the staff did not listen to what people were ordering.<br/>We never had anyone come to the table to ask if our meals were ok or to offer us more drinks. <br/>We had to ask for coffees at the end. <br/>I don't think we will re visit.

Hallelujah! - A local restaurant worth staying local for!<br/>Great Decor, great easy to access - easy parking location, very friendly wait staff and steak fit for the meatiest of carnivores!!<br/><br/>Steak was tender, flavoursome and cooked to perfection. Full restaurant but the food was delivered in reasonable time and just scrumptious! I know its a steakhouse and this may sound silly but I haven't had a steak this good since my very pricey (but yummy) visit to Jervois Road!<br/><br/>The Buffalo wings are spot on. Crumbed Camembert good too… Very hard to decide on the entrees. Super clean and atmosphere is very relaxing and enjoyable.<br/><br/>The owner, came and made himself known also. Very nice guy who knows his steaks! <br/><br/>A+++ Been twice this month and both times equally good. <br/><br/>FYI - second time (being healthier) I tried the twice cooked pork belly and blue cheese salad, the owner told me the pork was quite well trimmed and not too bad for me! Absolutely delicious! <br/><br/>A must try! Beats anything else in the area hands down.

Two of us went for lunch today. Restaurant was pretty quiet. Ordered the speciality Hawaiian burger with mushroom sauce, the blue cheese pork salad and a side of fries, shared a bottle of cider. Price wise not bad for lunch at a steakhouse, was just over $50. Husband thought the burger was great, lots of flavour in the meat. Came out with fries and onion rings. Actually enjoyed the onion rings, was a shame the waitress tilted the plate and dropped one of the three rings on the floor. Salad was great, fresh, and the pork was delicious... Seemed to be missing the punchy blue cheese flavour altogether though. Watched my side of fries sit at the counter for a while before the rest of our meal was ready, so not surprisingly they were a bit cold. Overall, would probably go back. Wouldn't say outstanding, but wasn't awful either.

We were not impressed with the food at all. Far too expensive what you got. Requested medium rump, got rare and had to ask to have it cooked more, it was tough with a lot of fat. Two small lamb cutlets, a baked potato and few onions rings is hardly worth $30. We waited a good 50 minutes for two meals, admittedly it was busy but then they should allow for busy periods. The table was wiped down before we sat down leaving it all wet, we were not given coasters for the drinks, leaving water all over the table and judging by other prices on the menu don't think we will be going there again.
Ria Little
The menu says: "The Great Steak 49.9;<br/>1KG! If you can beat this steak, you can wash it down with a pint on us!" <br/>My partner ate the steak, and had most of the sides that came with it. When the waitress was clearing the table she saw the plates, left and came back to tell us 'you have to finish the fries too if you want a free beer'. <br/>Maybe the menu should say if you beat 'the meal', you might get the free beer. <br/><br/>Also the 1kg was requested as 'medium' but was quite rare (though I guess it's hard to cook a massive steak).<br/><br/>Other meals were all very, very tasty (snitchel, lamb shanks, scotch fillet). <br/><br/>We had a 20minute wait for a table, they offered a second complimentary entree loaf while waiting for our mains because of how long it was taking. The staff consistently updated us on how long our food would take, and how many table orders were before ours, which was nice.<br/><br/>Would probably return for a meal when I knew the restaurant wasn't going to be so busy.

Early this evening we went to Porterhouse Grill for the first time and quite possibly the last. We ordered bread to share which was fine. I ordered a salad and my husband ordered the Clam Chowder. The waitress came back and advised they had "run out" of chowder and would he like to choose something else? She suggested she get the bread underway while he revised the menu. A little later a second waitress delivered the bread and asked if we were ready to order. My husband ordered a steak and I said I had a salad already ordered. The steak arrived but no salad. They apologised saying the previous waitress had not put the order through and after a wait the salad arrived. Unfortunately although the salad was tasty the chicken was stringy and dry. More surprisingly my husband's steak was totally tasteless. It was like eating soggy cardboard. The entire experience was an expensive disappointment.

This is going to be quite long. Booked a week in advance for a table of 10 at 7pm Friday night and requested a booth table which we did not get. No drinks menus, no mention of specials, took 20 minutes for drinks order, 20 mins for drinks to arrive. We then forced the waitress to take our order, no entrees just mains, no further drinks orders were taken without flagging down a member of staff.<br/><br/>At approx 830 we were told our meals were being cooked, then told 8 tables were in front of us and would take another 30 mins. We canceled the order and said we were leaving when I staff member came over saying the order had been pushed to the front and were offered a free round of drinks.<br/><br/>Meals arrived 5 minutes later and overall the food was just OK. A lot of variation between steaks, some cooked to request but mostly overcooked. A 250g steak from the menu came out being considerably bigger than one supposed to be 300g. The meals looked disappointing, steak smothered in soggy onion rings, bland and some fries, no garnish, salad or vegetables. Poor quantity and quality for $35. Some fries came to the table cold and by 730pm they had already run out of prawns, which limited seafood options down to two fish dishes.<br/><br/>There appeared to be no leadership or direction, the restaurant is too big and the menu too extensive, the kitchen just gets swamped. We were out the back with one other table and seemed forgotten about, the temperature was also uncomfortably warm. Will be looking for somewhere else to have a steak dinner in future.

A group of eleven dined here on Friday evening, and all enjoyed a lovely evening and good food. Being a large group we had a little wait for our food, but were kept informed and did not wait long. Portions were generous, well presented and very tasty. A few had pepper corn sauce and some thought it was too peppery, I stole a tasting and thought it was delicious. The only fault with the pork belly that I ordered was that the crackling wasn't good, but the rest was good. There are several dishes on the menu that I would like to try so will certainly be back.

Second time we have been there. First time during week of opening. Food fine - long wait though but made allowances as only just opened and staff were still learning the ropes.<br/>Tonight was dreadful. Prawns were raw, ordered medium steak which was raw in the centre. Side serving of vegetables - spinach tasted dreadful (waitress even commented that people had been leaving it!) <br/>The worst meal I have had in Auckland - other local eateries have nothing to fear.<br/>Certainly won't recommend this place to anyone. Will definitely not be wasting our money again.<br/>We lived in South Africa and this place has a lot to learn to match the standard of Porterhouse over there.

I have been waiting for Porterhouse Grill to open ever since I saw the renovation going on. My partner and I finally got to go last night and I had a fantastic time! Ambience was lovely and relaxed, interior of the restaurant was beautiful! Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals, especially the crumbled Camembert and the battered mushrooms-delish!! The service was very attentive and friendly, I will definitely be going again to my new local and recommend to family/friends :)

A childless date night. <br/>My husband and I spend very little time together without the kids but we decided to give the new restaurant in town a go. So for our one and only childless school holiday date night we decided to head to Porterhouse and omg it was amazing! The meals were fantastic, I didn't even finish mine it was so huge, the staff were just gorgeous, so helpful an friendly. It was an amazing night and I am looking forward to my next date night! Loved it!

A new restaurant for our family to try. Four of us had dinner. Atmosphere and decor lovely, modern, clean and appealing.<br/>The menu is extensive and the crumbed Camembert was absolutely delicious. Two of our table ordered the ribs.<br/>Now this is a rib loving family that like to suck on the delicious sauce that ribs have been marinated in.<br/>We were disappointed with our ribs! Firstly the flavour was bland. The ribs came as a rack not individually cut and stacked. Very difficult to cut and very messy. I felt as basic as Fred Flinstone trying to delicately cut these ribs before eating.<br/>Would go again, but unless they can make the ribs as mouthwatering as Lonestar's I won't be ordering them again.

I first tried Porterhouse Grill a couple of weeks ago. It was a Sunday night and the place was relatively full. We were greeted as soon as we walked in an shown to a table. We asked if we were happy with this table or if we would like to sit some where else. <br/><br/>We ordered our entree and drinks at the same time and they came out very fast which was awesome. We ordered our mains which were the pork belly and the ribs. Both came out in a very reasonable time which we were very happy with. The food was amazing and the portion size was great! <br/><br/>I have no complaints about my dining experience. It was a very friendly place, nice atmosphere and the food was delish! Definitely will be back. Keep it up :)

Four of us had dinner on Monday night.<br/><br/>Entrees were scallops and calamari with the mains T-bone, ribs, steak and lamb shanks. No desserts. All washed down with a bottle of Baby Doll Pinot<br/><br/>Food was excellent, service good. Was nice to see the wait staff smiling and showing an interest in us, the customer. The price reasonable - similar to Goode Brothers, Cock and Bull, and Lonestar.<br/><br/>Our thoughts were an enjoyable restaurant experience and we will certainly recommend Porterhouse Grill to our friends.

Lots of confusion when the food was brought out. Staff did not know what the special of day was. Clearing the table before we were finished. You felt like maybe you were taking the table for too long. They walked around the table asking for the table napkins back even though we were not finished. They did not refill the water on the tables. Thought the prices were expensive. The food could have been better, the green salad was disappointing and the sauces on the food were not so great either. I doubt it I would recommend it to people either.

Enjoyed a great lunch with my wife and twin toddlers today 12/01/14.<br/><br/>Wonderful atmosphere, seated immediately with a smile.<br/>Two great quality clean high chairs provided, a huge bonus for us, you should see what some places pass off as high chairs. <br/>I had the aged porterhouse, a mountain of a steak that I could not finish but gladly doggy bagged for later. <br/>My wife had an eye fillet with garlic mash which she thinks was beautiful. Onion rings fantastic for both meals, great to see these accompanied with steak as a standard and obviously freshly battered rather than packet onion rings.<br/>Spiced Bloody Mary's......perfect <br/><br/>All n all a great dining experience, friendly and attentive staff, I'm sure the people of Pakuranga will be happy to have an up market, modern family restaurant to call their local. Keep up the good work!

Totally agree it was like being back in SA, the meat quality was second to none, cooked to perfection, generous portions, welcoming atmosphere, tasteful decor and spacious seating with friendly yet professional service. Great wine list to accompany an excellent menu. The highchairs for our two one year olds were clean and comfortable, (sorry about the mess we left) and all of our meals were beautifully presented, full of flavour and well priced. Worth every cent! Yum yum yum yum yum. I strongly advise you to try it out for yourself - you won't be disappointed. Well done Porterhouse Grill consider us regulars and take no notice of the harsh comments, some people have nothing better to do with their time than moan moan moan. You've done an awesome job keep it up and we'll see you again soon!

Went for the first time last night with my family.. I don't understand the harsh comments.<br/>It's a good family restaurant with plenty space between tables. <br/>I had the twice cooked pork belly, which was cooked really well. My wife and daughter both had the calamari and steak combo. The steak was cooked perfectly and the calamari was good as well. All portions were quite big.<br/>Well done Porterhouse Grill. We will be back.
Alexandra Burridge
A friend an I ate at Porterhouse last night, we didn't make a reservation and we were welcomed and seated without a fuss.<br/>The food was amazing, large portions for entree and main, the service was efficient and friendly.<br/>I would say to anyone wanted to try, make your own mind up as some of the reviews on here are very harsh for a new restaurant that's opened up in peak Christmas rush.<br/>I will be returning again definitely!

Wow went to the newly opened PORTERHOUSE restaurant in Pakuranga tonight, man what a feast, felt like I was back in South Africa with Steak with Pepper Sauce onion rings the works. Great venue with great service, yes they are new and still find their way but well recommended, check it out, long overdue.

My husband and I walked in without a booking on Sunday 5th, for dinner. We were seated, water came, drinks order done, food ordered, yummy entries were eaten, yummy mains were eaten &amp; drinks were refreshed. My only problem was I had eaten too well and had no room for dessert.<br/>The atmosphere was great as was the decor. Owner even gave me a sample of another way to drink Coruba Rum as we were paying our account, at no charge, and it too was yummy. <br/>So, maybe those of you who went in the first week or so, should give it another go. I can only imagine what it must've been like to 'go live' in those first few days!<br/>I'm definitely returning for a breakfast, a lunch and for a dessert. And quite possibly just a drink at the bar. . . And if there is a problem they will be told and I have no doubt the owner will sort if for the future.<br/>So thank you, Porterhouse Grill.
Melody
Decor nice, food average. Waited 45 min for burgers ordered, need to work on onion rings cold and greasy. I ordered the Porterhouse burger with mushroom sauce and found 2 mushrooms in a watery sauce.! Looked at the rest of the menu and found it quite pricy. The restaurant was not busy yet, everyone around us seemed to wait a long time for their orders, only 2 waitresses on duty . So can see they will struggle if it gets any busier

Four of us visited for Sunday lunch today, our first experience at Porterhouse Grill. Nice modern décor, and a surprising large restaurant (using the space previously occupied by a hairdressers and the Dick Smith store). The meals were ordered from the friendly and attentive staff, and duly arrived without delay (fairly quiet around midday). The ribs were very good, lots of meat and very tender. A rather bland rump steak was lifted to rather good with the excellent mushroom sauce and slice of cheddar with it. Chris thoroughly enjoyed his chicken club sandwich and it did look mouth wateringly good. The fourth meal was a chefs 'trial' dish, not on the menu. Honest feedback was requested for the chef for this dish. As it turned out the gurnard salmon coriander lemongrass lime and chilli fishcake really rocked. Tasty and spicy, perfect with the accompanying kiwifruit jam and pineapple salsa. Served with side salad and chips, a perfect lunch or small dinner option and hopefully may become a regular option, although people need to be warned that this is one spicy fishcake ... definitely not bland! All together a very pleasant lunch experience to be repeated.

We went there tonight. Nice deco and excellent service. The meal is really a disappointment . I had Rump steak, my wife had Scot fillet. The fries tasted like frozen supermarket fries and the onion rings tasted like just batters no onion. The meal was not worth $100 (2beers,1Gin &amp; tonic, garlic bread &amp; 2 steaks).
Gordon Ramsbottom
I went there after they finally opened. <br/>The decor was fantastic as you would expect from a new restaurant.<br/>The menus were great with lots of options.<br/>I ordered a porterhouse steak.<br/>It was .... very nice. <br/>However the portion was small and the onion rings were not impressive, neither was the potato.<br/>If you want a generous sized steak with great sides at a fair price then keep walking.<br/>If you want an average steak with less than impressive sides in a pleasant environment at a premium price then come here.<br/>Although your best option is to buy a good cut from the supermarket and cook it yourself.<br/>Screw Flanders.<br/><br/>Update 18 March 2016.<br/>For the THIRD TIME the restaurant wasn't busy but I sat at my table for 45 minutes watching people come and go and get entrees and mains and stuff their faces, laughing and flirting like Kings, while I sat there getting hungrier and hungrier.  No entree, no steak, nada. So I just walked out. All hangry.<br/>The last time I went there they did this little dance, except they TOTALLY FORGOT about my order so I had to wait another 20 mins or so because of their incompetence.<br/>Three times they have done this crap. And they have PLENTY of wait staff.<br/>Management should go  to the Flying Moa and get a lesson on how to run a business and get repeat customers.

Just what Auckland needed....a truly fantastic steak house with a great menu. We went a week after opening. There are still a few teething problems but overall we was very impressed with our dinning experience. The steaks were done perfectly, ribs were very tasty and the twice cooked pork belly was the star on the table. We ended off with Dom Pedro's that were the best we have ever tasted, and we have had a few around the world.<br/><br/>Not cheap......but well worth it. We will be regulars.<br/><br/>Well done Porterhouse Grill team, you are onto a winning formula....just don't let standards drop.
Genneth Marshall-Inman
Had best ever omlette for breakfast on 24th Dec . Superb .Cooked to perfection. Others had eggs benedict and pancakes. Highly Recommended . Staff were on to it. They were attentive without being too close. The coffee was perfect. Decor is very smart. The breakfast menu comprehensive. Something for all tastes and pockets.

Had made a booking for four on opening night and upon arrival was impressed with the layout. It was quite busy and despite being well staffed, it was obvious staff weren't coping very well. Our meals were ordered but not served for quite a lengthy time. However the manager/owner was good enough to acknowledge our table along with others providing an explanation for the delays. This was much appreciated. <br/>Once our meals were served, it was worth the wait. Our steaks were cooked to perfection, full of flavour and the servings were generous. It was delectable and appetizing so much so we made a spontaneous return last night a week later without a booking. A huge transformation from the previous week, any tension had eased and the staff were engaging with smiles all round!! We were greeted in a warm and friendly manner and were seated immediately. The overall performance by staff had gone from nervous and uncertain on our first night to being totally switched on and professional!! Our orders for drinks and meals were taken within minutes and in less than 30 minutes we were enjoying a perfectly cooked porterhouse steak and fish of the day with garlic mash an absolute must!! Absolutely nothing to fault on this night so in saying that, well done to the manager/owner and staff!! Definitely redeemed yourselves from our first visit. Will highly recommend you to friends &amp; family!! Give them a break everyone, one week and I can see the making of 5 stars for sure!!!

I went to try out this bar with a close and fussy friend, food was fantastic I had the ribs awesome, fish and chips were mouth watering so I was told, waitresses very polite and welcoming, drink prices according to other bar prices. We enjoyed the space and interior was very nice, great to have an up market eatery in Pakuranga all I can say is well done look forward to dining there on a regular basis

I took my parents for a meal at Porterhouse last week and we really enjoyed the food. We shared a selection of starters - the scallops were particularly tasty. For mains, we had eye fillet, scotch fillet and a Caesar rump steak, respectively. All three were cooked as we requested and the accompanying portions of fries/mash and onion rings were generous. For dessert, Mum and I shared a "Death by Chocolate" which is an absolutely delicious triple-layered mousse of white, milk and dark chocolate - what a treat! Porterhouse also has a good selection of wines and beers and other drinks. We could see that the waiting staff were still learning their roles, but they were always friendly and helpful. We will definitely be eating here again - the food was really good.
Dale
Myself and my husband went for dinner when Porterhouse opened last week and had an excellent meal.<br/>Our eye fillet steaks were cooked to perfection and I loved the choice of fries, mash or baked potato with sour cream - don't experience this very often in NZ whereas common in USA and Canada.<br/><br/>Contrary to other comments, I thought the onion rings were great and also the garlic bread.<br/><br/>We will certainly be returning.
Andrea
Very disappointing. Prices high - $40 for a Tbone that was just warm served with cold onion rings and chips. Chili chips were soggy. Dirty cutlery. Forgot our water and waited 1 1/2 hours for our main

It looks great from the outside but it was a debacle once inside.<br/> <br/>We hadn't booked but thought being new we would get there early and chance it. Sat 28/12 Arrived just before 6pm. Asked for a table for two and was shown one in the direct pathway of the entry door. Asked if there was another and the waitress didn't know. The owner told her to take us to a four-seater and remove two settings. <br/><br/>Should have realised something was up then. <br/><br/>Ordered two glasses of the Tiger beer on tap. After a long wait, the waitress came over and apologised saying there was a problem with the Tiger tap, (it wasn't pouring cold enough yet) and would we like to order something else which we did. Two minutes later another waitress arrived with the Tiger beers! <br/>We asked what was going on but she looked at us dumbfounded as she didn't know there was anything wrong. She said she would go and check. Then the first waitress arrived with the revised beer order. She was surprised to see the two Tiger beers. Anyway she left them with us saying we could have them at no charge. (As it turned out, we didn't drink them as they were not fully chilled)<br/><br/>We then ordered. He ordered the twice cooked pork belly ($29.90) and as I was not very hungry, the entree size salt and pepper calamari ($15.90) and a side of lime &amp; chilli fries (sounded interesting - at $6.50 they were $1.50 premium over standard fries so I expected something special). <br/><br/>The pork belly arrived - followed by the calamari.<br/>The portions were meagre. The two very small pieces of pork belly tasted nice but the garlic mash accompaniment had far too much raw garlic in it and left an acrid taste in the mouth. The excuse of a salad was ordinary. <br/>The calamari had ten small calamari rings and once again the small excuse for a salad.<br/><br/>The pork belly was down to the last mouthful and there were two calamari rings left on my plate when the lime and chilli fries arrived. I commented that they were late arriving. After having a couple I went after the waitress and told her they had forgotten the lime and chilli. I had a bowl of plain chips. She took the bowl away with an apology and we waited........... and waited some more. The new bowl of fries arrived and as you no doubt guessed, everything else had been finished. <br/>This new bowl appeared to have been re-fried and were not much different in the 'lime &amp; chilli' department. They still tasted plain to me. <br/><br/>After trying a few, we left them on the table with the unfinished Tiger beers and went to settle the account.<br/><br/>The very friendly staff member listed to my complaint about our service and then the owner also came over. I explained everything to him. He admitted that they were having problems that night. He apologised and said he had to open at this time of the year and experienced staff were hard to come by. That was why there were so many trainee staff working. <br/><br/>I said we would not be returning. He said please come back and give them another chance and when we did, alert him that we were there and he would make sure we had a good experience. <br/><br/>They then took the $6.50 for the fries off the account which I then paid. To my mind, that was insulting. I think the least they could have done was not charge for one meal (mine being the cheapest would have been enough).<br/><br/>We will not be returning and we will definitely be warning everyone we know how bad this experience was. <br/><br/>FYI - the information re price guide for this restaurant is well wrong. More accurate would be $20 - $50. The drinks are overpriced (Tiger on tap $10.50) and the meals seem overpriced as the portions are meagre. There are obviously some problem areas in the kitchen. This establishment needs a major shake-up or it won't be there for long.
Amy Coghlan
Great looking place. Food was good, not sure about the onion rings though (maybe a choice of veges to complement the steak instead). The restaurant was fully booked and there seemed to be enough staff for the amount of people being served, but the service was poor. We got the entree pretty fast but waited about 45 mins to order the mains then another 45 mins to eat. Not really good enough. Also drinks were a bit slow &amp; no water served. Desert was fast. I think the staff need to each have their own set of tables to serve.

Thought we would try out our new local, what a huge disappointment. First we had several different waiters try to take our order, got our drinks wrong (or not at all). Waited almost an hour for food at which point we said to the manager we were not even interested in staying (our kids were getting restless). Finally our food arrived and my Buffalo wings weren't even cooked properly, pink through the middle right to the bone, and my husbands medium steak was well done. Wouldn't bother going back ever.

Long wait over 20 mnutes.Steaks OVERCOOKED, service terrible. 82.50 for 2 steaks. BAD VALUE FOR MONEY Staff poorley trained. DID not know fomr our plates who had finished GET THEM TRAINED Never go back Never recommend.

Great spot. We got there early with a party of eight. Service was great and the food delicious. Despite some challenging fiid allergies we were well accommodated by the friendly staff. I toped the evening off with the 700gm rump. Best rump I have had in NZ and one of the best steaks I have ever had.
Bo
Great steak restaurant, up market interior. Steaks are juicy and cooked the way you want with a few choices of sauce. Plenty of sides that comes with the steak. Prices are reasonable. 1kg steak challenge are fun with friends, if you get to finish the 1kg steak you get a free drink.

First time at Porterhouse yesterday and we had a sleeping baby with us. The staff found us a quiet corner and they were so respectful of us. They approached quietly and even stopped ringing the service bell. The food was absolutely amazing and plenty of it. It might have been our first visit but definitely won't e the last. So great to have a place like this in our local area. Well done Porterhouse.
Lisa
The food here is awesome and amazing, have been here multiple times and its a favourite - especially the waffles! The only thing that would need to be improved on would be the customer service and how long it takes for the food to reach our table.
Rice & Kai
We went to Porterhouse Grill with some friends of ours for dinner the other night. The steaks here are very good and they cooked them all perfectly to our individual preferences. However, the sides that the steaks came with were nothing special - I had the baked potato which was enormous, but boring. Some of our group chose to have the chips and some had the mashed potato - if you want any vegetables, you need to order them separately. The garlic and mushroom sauces that came with the steaks were tasty.<br/>The service was friendly and pretty efficient, and if you're just looking for a decent steak and potatoes meal, this is your place.

Who would have thought there was a restaurant in Pakuranga Plaza <br/><br/>Felt like a steak and had walked by this place a few times<br/><br/>A group of us went on a Friday night where we found it surprisingly quiet. Felt like we were in a hotel restaurant with the simple decor.<br/><br/>Our waiter was attentive and friendly<br/><br/> We had:<br/>Garlic and cheese bread ???? (great warm starter)<br/>The Roquefort fillet topped with creamy blue cheese and garlic sauce (tasty)<br/>The fillet with bernaise sauce (slightly tangy but good)<br/>Our friends had:<br/>The Porterhouse with a pepper sauce <br/>The Aged porterhouse with garlic sauce<br/>And ribs with salad and chips<br/><br/>All steaks are served with a choice of crunchy thick cut chips, (huge) baked potato or garlic mash as well as onion rings <br/>Steaks were cooked to our liking-rare, medium rare and medium<br/><br/>The food and service was good <br/><br/>Would go back and recommend to locals

Before going to Porterhouse Grill I had very mixed reviews, main complaints were regarding the time it takes to get the food delivered. The steak was amazing, nearly everyone (10 people) loved their food. It wasn't too loud and we were in a great spot which catered to our large group. Two boys had the 1kg steak and said it was the best rump they've ever had. The drinks were on par and one waitress in particular was .. inexperienced but had such a lovely personality it made up for it. The entree of crumbled mushrooms were AMAZING, if you're going there-get it! Just do it.YUM!<br/><br/>A few down falls were:<br/>The wait between orders and meals was on average around 35 minutes but with our friends company it was bearable.<br/>When we asked one waitress for some cutlery she had forgotten rolled her eyes at us as she turned. We had three different waitresses for our table and I had to call each of them over. Every. Single. Time. (to take drink orders; food orders; clear tables; and to bring out the cake that I had asked to be brought out at 9pm...then I had to ask again because the girl we asked said yes then went to chat to her friend and after ten minutes of it being obvious that she wasn't going to bring it). Also, when I say call them over, I mean, waving them over because they would be across the restaurant chatting in the bar. We were basically ignored for most part of the night.<br/>We did ask for a vegetarian dish and were surprised to only have salad available. Really? Salad? That's pretty pathetic for a restaurant of this size. Our vege girl asked for the chicken pasta but to change the chicken to A LOT of mushroom and she had specified to have a lot more. She had plain pasta with barely any sauce, a lot of oil and next to no mushrooms. It was tragic and looked pretty terrible. <br/><br/><br/>Food wise, if you're a big meat eater and you're willing to spend a bit extra then I guess this place is for you :)
