Review Tirohana Estate - Martinborough

One of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in New Zealand. Excellent service, including a shuttle which picked us up and dropped us off as well as welcome drinks on arrival. The food was fantastic. Great value for money. Would 100% come back.

We had a great time at the restaurant from the moment we arrived until the time we left. We were greeted with a warm welcome and Toby and his team made sure we were well looked after. We were made to feel special as a few of us celebrated our 60th birthdays on the night. The warm hospitality coupled with good food made this a most memorable night. Despite being a busy night, food were served in good intervals so no undued delays. The restaurant is well set up with a great atmosphere. The outlook is tranquil as we look out into rows of vines. Truly an awesome place and one to consider when celebrating your special occasions. Thank you Toby and your great team. Look forward to seeing you again.

Just returned from having a fabulous High Tea at Tirohana Estate. Perfect selection of savory & sweet for 2. An extra tier can be added for an additional person. Wouldn't change a thing, perfect blend, great value for money. Ps photo minus two savourises missing :)

The service was exceptional and I could not fault the food. A wonderful evening. I could not recommend this dining experience more. We were also picked up and dropped off by the winery 🍷 from our accommodation.

Loved our whole experience from the pickup through to the drop off service. The lamb shank was perfect and the 3 cheese tart was equally lovely and paired with the wine we had a lovely dinner which we finished with a lovely glass of port. Will definitely return one day.

Outstanding. We enjoyed a lovely evening with excellent food and the friendliest service. Relaxing atmosphere, perfect for a romantic dinner. Nice extra touches from welcome drinks through to chocolate truffles to finish. The estate's wine list isn't extensive, and I'm generally not a fan of NZ Pinot Noir, but I was pleasantly surprised. We would definitely return if staying in the area, and would considering staying here if the hospitality is at the same level!

We had a lively lunch in the sun yesterday. The fish was delicious. The lamb shank melted off the bone and we all enjoyed our deserts. Some were willing to share others weren’t. Tells you it was good.

Superb at every level. Amazing food, excellent staff, beautiful atmosphere and fine wine. Made my birthday extra special with the wait staff singing happy birthday (great voices). This restaurant came highly recommended to us and we were not disappointed. The complementary shuttle was an added bonus. Will be dreaming of this meal for weeks and scheming a return.

Amazing restaurant, outstanding food, excellent service. 3 courses for lunch and a pinot noir, this restaurant really has to be experienced to be believed. Toby the manager looked after us from the start and ensured we had a lovely afternoon. Goats cheese starter, lamb for main, & bread pudding for dessert, every dish was spot on.

First time at Tirohana, the courtesy van turned up on time and the driver was friendly and helpful. Greeted at the door by Toby and Jerry, who made sure our glasses were full all night. They both knew the menu, and could recommend dishes. Absolutely stoked with the quality and taste of the food, and the fact that Tirohanas menu is mostly gluten free by default (no complaints from the gluten eater at my table). Am definitely going back, I need to taste more of the menu!!! �

The food, wine and service at Tirohana Estate is second to none! My wife and I had lunch there today and the service from maître d' Toby was unbeatable, as was the food. I ordered a pork cutlet which was to die for! We had their Harmony Pinot Noir to go with our meal and it was absolutely sublime. I cannot say enough about what a great experience it was.

My partner and I had our celebration dinner at Tirohana. It was such a beautiful evening. Everything went smoothly and the staff were all so genuinely lovely and friendly. Absolutely amazing! The staff were fantastic - friendly and knowledgeable, and the overall service made us feel so special. The food was phenomenal, with good portions, and the wine was just as good - we were still full the next day! Can’t wait to go back.

The most amazing evening we have had in a long time. Hosts are incredible, they are real hosts, food was spectacular, everything about our night, the meal, the thoughtfulness, it was beautiful. Thank you for introducing the chef and for my lovely picture with her!!! You guys are amazing, I intend to travel to have a meal with you as often as we can. From the moment we walked in, had our coats taken and hung up and given a glass of Sauvignon squeeze and Amuse Bouche we knew we were in for a fine dining experience. The menu had a great selection of foods and flavours. We were not disappointed. Everything was delicious. Thanks esp. to Toby it was great.

The food was amazing the staff are next level just awesome and we were really happy with our food portions and our baby loved his sleep in front of the warm fire �we will definitely be back thanks guys ��

6th anniversary dinner at Tirohana Estate last night was incredible. Tomato soup, beetroot tart, beef, lamb and chocolate tart were incredible. As for the spiced pumpkin bread and butter pudding, the most delectable thing I've ever eaten. We were also gifted a bottle of fine red wine. Amazing service, food and company. Definitely returning some time soon.

Eight friends and I had the pleasure of dining at Tirohana Estate for dinner to celebrate my 50th birthday, and what an absolute pleasure it was! We were collected from our accommodation and taken to Tirohana Estate. Toby took fabulous photos of our group before we were greeted in the foyer and handed a beautiful drink before being seated in the restaurant. The entire evening was outstanding and we all thoroughly enjoyed the Tirohana experience. The menu, atmosphere, wine and most importantly the staff were friendly and attentive without being over the top. I highly recommend the Tirohana dining experience. Full credit to you and the extended team at Tirohana, Toby! Thank you all for an absolutely amazing evening and I hope to see you all again in the future.

One of the best vineyard restaurants we have ever been to. Toby and the team look after you so well you feel like royalty. Always go when in the Waiarapa. :)

It was fun and extremely tasty. Tobias is a wonderful host. Not expensive at all for a three course meal, and we even got a door to door service. Lucky! I hope we can go back one day because damn that dinner was fiiiine.

We love Tirohana, it's like arriving home on a winters day, the fire is burning, the smell coming from the kitchen warms your heart and a genuine heart felt welcome greets you every time. This was a fantastic way to spend our 20th wedding anniversary. Dinner was superb. We were picked up from our hotel, the meal was amazing. Meeting the chef on our arrival was lovely. Nothing bad today about the service or food, and we were dropped off at our hotel at the end. Thanks to everyone at Tirohana. We will return and will be telling everyone about our great time with you.

We had the most beautiful lamb, pork and Pinot at the Estate today. The fire was roaring and the service was fantastic. Thank you so much for making our special occasion extra special.

would've liked to have tried a sweeter and/or sparkling wine - food portions were very small and I know some of my man friends were going to be stopping at maccas on the way home.

We went here for dinner Sunday 16th April. We were greeted at our cottage door by Toby, who then delivered us to Tirohana Estate. Toby's friendly personality set the scene for a fabulous night. Upon arriving at Tirohana, Staff came out with umbrellas to ensure we got inside as dry as possible 😊As I am sporting a bright pink cast, Staff were really helpful in making sure I got inside safely. Our starters were delicious, ambience was fabulous, Staff were outstanding, and the food and wine- perfect! Thank you Toby and Staff, an absolute delight from start to finish, we will definitely be back again. The door to door courtesy van was also an enjoyable experience- thank you for such a great night 👍🏾

Wonderful helpful staff that took the time to explain every single item on their set priced menu, no surprises coming out of the kitchen here!<br/>Meals were great, very nicely presented and tasted wonderful. Good sized meals, let us feeling full and like we'd received value for our money.<br/>Also loved the complimentary pick up and drop off service, allowing everybody to enjoy their fabulous wines and also get home safely.

Amazing experience... the food was mouth watering good. Loved the fact they can pick up and drop u if u want. The desert was my super favorite and all three courses were good serving. They gave us a night to remember. This was dinner and the place was lit beautifully.

The service is very good - very welcoming and attentive staff. The food on the other hand was disappointing - the fish cakes did not taste fresh and the texture was unusual. The beef was cooked well but not trimmed which made it chewy. The beef was served on vegetables. Some of the vegetables had the texture of a dry vegetable soup mix and large cuts of peppers with Beetroot and potato. The mix of vegetables was very odd. The cheese board was good but not enough to rescue the meal. The food lets the service down - I would try the wine and eat elsewhere.

I like the concept of set menu because it allows you to choose based on what you actually want rather than price. The entrees were a bit of a let down, they are preprepared as they come out within 5 minutes. Salmon fish cakes were tiny and not crisp and the feta and caramelised onion tart looked soggy. The lamb I had was nice but the corn in the vegetable was overlooked and hard. The pumpkin bread and butter pudding was delicious, tasted similar to sticky date pud.

The Tirohana Estate , just outside the centre of Martinborough and was the only one of the many wineries that was open for dinner when we were in town on a Thursday. They even had a shuttle to pick us up from our accommodation and whisk us to the beautiful location followed by a friendly welcome from the staff.

After visiting earlier in the day for a wine tasting, we were tempted by the $59 menu and friendly welcome so booked for that evening. We were staying locally so were offered a pick up which was gratefully accepted.<br/>The food and wine were sublime and the service exceptional. Cannot recommend highly enough and will definitely be back.<br/>Thank you for a wonderful evening.

I'd heard so much about this place and was really excited to finally be able to experience it over Easter. What a disappointment. We had the dinner set menu at $59 per head which I thought prior was really reasonable. My entree of salmon fishcakes was awful and had clearly been reheated in the microwave, it was hot and soggy, no crisp as you would expect from a freshly cooked fishcake. I then had the pork for my main which was served with mashed potato from a packet (even though the menu stated croquettes), so so disappointing, then the brulee for dessert which was ok but grainy. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff attentive, perhaps their summer menu will be better....

Wow! This is some place! Fantastic food and wines,the best hosts anyone could ever ask for and wonderful accommodation.<br/>We were made so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. <br/>Can't recommend Tirohana enough. Can't wait until next visit.

Absolutely wonderful experience, a MUST when visiting the area. Our waiter was fabulous - so funny, knowledgeable and efficient. The meals were superb and of good size. My partner and I are both from hospitality backgrounds and truly enjoyed our dining experience. We will most certainly be back!

My partner and I booked a break away over the hill as we wanted to do something extra special to celebrate the New Year and new decade. Tirohana was recommended by some friends. And we could see why! The place is stunning, the food was awesome (yummy 6 course), the service was the best I had ever had ... and the atmosphere was just so amazing with great entertainment. And all the little extra surprises and things on offer were very welcome. Wish it was located in Wellington! But we will be back and highly recommend Tirohana. A really special place and a unique dining experience.

The beautiful Tirohana Estate was the venue for a weekend birthday lunch. Nine of us were warmly greeted for wine tasting, followed by the two-course lunch menu. I opted for the cranberry and brie salad followed by lamb shanks so tender that the meat practically fell off the bone. Only a couple of our party had room for dessert after such a sumptuous meal! Our service was friendly, efficient and attentive in an idyllic setting. A thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.

I travel a lot on business. So going out for a meal is something I am inclined not to do. But with my partner being a food and wine lover, to keep the peace - I compromise! Anyway, he took me out to Tirohana last Friday for dinner on the recommendation of friends. And I was blown away. Amazed to find a restaurant of this quality in Martinborough - let alone the Wellington region - as it can honestly rival the top places I have dined in throughout the world. The ambiance, atmosphere, yummy food, first class wine and especially the service was really awesome. Great value and to see a place so unique operating in NZ. I will certainly be back and am considering booking my 50th birthday celebration. A truly special place. Well done all at Tirohana.

My husband and I dined at Tirohana Estate during our recent holiday to New Zealand. The food was super, the service excellent, and the elegant setting and decor was truly evocative and inspired. Overall we were really impressed. We both thought that our dining experience was one of the best we have ever experienced and that Tirohana Estate has set the standard that few Establishments could rival - not only in New Zealand - but anywhere in the world. 5 Stars for us. In every way.
