My favourite fish and chip shop that I’ve visited here in NZ. Super friendly and amazing service and so much choice. Was so pleased that I’d finally found a chippy that served mushy peas!!! The food was delicious and great value for money and I can’t wait to go back for more. Thanks so much! 😊

Best calamari in NZ! I travel NZ for work and try many different restaurants, by far the best fish n chips I've had anywhere! Owners were friendly and overall amazing service, will be going back next time I'm here!! 10/10!

The Sands Fish and Chip shop is in the heart of Tahunanui, surrounded by glorious views and the breeze from the beach. With friendly staff and delicious food, this place is ideal to bring your date or your family. I highly recommend their bacon and egg burger!

Amazing service, felt like I've been going here for my whole life. There was absolutely no slimy fish here, it was perfectly battered and the chips go hard.

Don't bother going anywhere else! Best fish n chips we have had to date. Salt & pepper calamari was delicious, fish was fresh, moist and cooked to perfection. Chicken curry roll was fab and the chips are nice and crispy but not hollow and oily like most we've had elsewhere. Thanks for the great meal! We'll be back!

Had some seriously good fish & chips on Friday night, bought the large family meal which fed our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teens). This was our first visit - we will definitely be back.

Small but beautiful fish and chips shop owned by a lovely and very nice guy. You can also get almost everything gluten-free, and it’s suitable for celiacs. It tasted great!

Delicious and well battered fish (gurnard, snapper and whiting) and chips, bluff oyster, salt & pepper calamari. We like gurnard the best. Visited twice during our 2D1N stay in Nelson. Sad to know they are letting go their business for a break and for good. Good for them!!

Ok fish and chips. Crumbed fish of the day was lovely, though small piece. Scallops were small-no orange bit, as was crabstick. As opposed to city shops.<br/>Chips were a thicker/rectangular cut than usual.

GLITEN FREE FISH AND CHIPS!!! And celiac safe too! Many options on the menu are gluten free with a separate fryer. I had a chicken burger, chips (which were sooo good!) and a battered pineapple ring which I thought I’d never be able to eat again! And lovely location beside the beach.

Most awful service I have ever encountered, extremely rude. My partner was left in tears. I am so shocked. Then for them to come back and say she has no sense of humour...what has humour got do do with being served by someone? I'm utterly gobsmacked.

Great yummy burgers that were huge. Easy car parks around the back. Would definitely go there again next I'm in nelson. Price not to bad. Yea

Great location, epic on a sunny summery afternoon. Prices are good, people - all good, parking lot around behind the complex. I would say the food was good but not great, but you couldn't expect too much for decent kiwi tucka. Very nice.

I did not like the fish and chips much here I've eaten better , the fish and batter was stale and not upto it's name . the chips was also not fresh ! Not recommended !

Was recommended to go here after a weekend away to Nelson.  Would have to be the best fish and chips I have ever had!  Totally generous portions, and the freshest best snapper, which was a massive portion.  Great service!  Am heading back in a couple of weeks time, and can't wait to go back.  I tell everybody who is going to Nelson about this shop! well I have had Fish and Chips there and I thought they were great!  It was pretty busy and we waited awhile but it was worth it.  Lovely location and busy busy staff.  Keep up the hard work!

Excellent Fish and Chips, location and these guys really "get" customer service. Very friendly staff and easily the best F & C's in the region. Silver Trumpeter and spicy mussels were amazing. Highly recommended! Will be going back, again, again  :)Geoff

Today is their birthday, so we decided to give a try. We ordered 2x Bluecods and chips and found out they were the best and freshest fish you have ever taste and chips were very nice and in good portion. So we will come back even we have to pay full price. Now we find best fish and chips in Nelson. Keep the good work guys!! We will be back.

Fantastic chips have too be the best in the region by far they deserve a golden medal why cant any of the other places get this most important part right?Goddam chips these guys do it right thank god i say they have such the cleanest premises and passion for what they do and it truly reflects in the food utter most respect to you guys i love your work .....my one complaint would be that your food is too good its addictive i cant drive by without coming inn i have to drive the other way or i,d be there every day cheers the sands fish and chip shop your so yummy.X<br/>Ash

We're finally back in Nelson from Austin, Texas, USA, and wasted no time getting over to The Sands for our first fish and chips of 2014. YUM! Enjoyed sitting at the tables and bantering with Roy and Bruce, the owners, while munching on gluten-free silver trumpeter, a hot dog, hot chips, and Jenny's favorite "dessert," the corn pattie. Guys, we'll be seeing you often over the next few months!

My cousins from Seattle and a friend were visiting Nelson and happened by chance to come to the Sands Fish and Chip on our way to Ruby Beach.<br/><br/>Hands down a great experience. Roy, you are Auckland's &amp; K Road's lost but Nelson's gain. You are such a fun chap to be around with. We had a blast on our visit. I wish you and your partner well on your new adventure.<br/><br/>Fish and Chips were great, the bluff oyster and mussels were yummy. We did not leave any morsel left.<br/><br/>Will be sure to visit again when we visit Nelson in the future.

This is the place to get fish and chips etc. Lovely cooked Bluff<br/>oysters between us we ate 2 dozen oysters and a few chips what a meal it was cooked absolutely perfect, after ordering we <br/>we sat outside in the sun at handcrafted table and in about 5<br/>minutes the food arrived YUM. Best oysters and scallops I have had in 20 years. The seafood was cooked absolutely perfect, light with a tempura batter. My partner and I called for lunch, we sat outside on the nice handcrafted table. An excellent service from an Aussie chef. A must call place !!

The worst F&amp;C I've ever had in my life.<br/>Everything seemed small and dry including the actual serving size. Tiny piece of fish and a handful of chips. Total rip-off. <br/>Decidedly unpleasant experience.<br/>Such a shame as with the awesome location it could be something special.

Great couple and both are good for a laugh. I noted they had a young fella helping out when I was there today. Haven't had any banter with him yet but that will come particularly if the owners are a bad influence on the lad!!<br/><br/>For the odd Saturday or Sunday lunch treat I love to sit outside in the sun on one of their custom made tables and watch the world go by as I savour the delicious taste of my fish and chips and mussels cooked just the way I like it, and slurping on a refreshing iced tea. It's a nice suprise to always open up my parcel to find some extra bits chucked in for free. Apart from my yum food, it's why I always go back there. Plus they aren't judgemental when they obligingly sprinkle heaps of salt on for me :P<br/><br/>Can't help but notice how they always treat every customer like a VIP. It's nice to watch as I'm devouring my greasys and licking the excess salt that I shouldn't be having off my finger. Mmmm tastes so gooood :)<br/><br/>Cheers guys

The best fish & chips I have ever tasted. Awesome atmosphere as the owners Roy & Bruce make it the best. I love the new Country Fried Chicken, it has made what was a great menu a awesome one. You guys always make me leave with a smile. Thank you boys.

These guys are the real deal. Absolutely fantastic takeaway food at realistic prices. The Owner / Operators are very passionate about their business and truly respect their customers. The premises is always clean and bright and you won't find a better chip anywhere.

Loved the fish and chips.. Great and friendly service...owner managed...love his passion towards customers. The place was very clean and tidy. We tried the fish of the day...it was a great deal and we absolutely loved it, and it's open all day!!!!!! We are definitely coming back here!!!!highly recommended

Agree with Dale. New owners and the owner had bad attitude+++ OK food but I won't be back because of his attitude.<br/><br/>50cent charge for using EftPos and he suggested I go to another fish and chip shop down the road if I didn't like it. I will remember that for next time.

Have been to the Sands a couple of times now and up to the last visit have been very impressed with both the service and quality, quantity of food - would have been one of the top in the country I would have said<br/>However - went recently and was very disappointed.<br/>Was served by the older guy (one of the owners) who was quite rude.<br/>Food (fish and chips) was overcooked and didnt taste good.<br/>Fish portions were small (in fact one piece was the smallest piece of fish I think I have ever seen from a fish and chip shop)<br/>Wont be going back or recommending.<br/>Seems like the "honey moon" period is over.

Very good friendly service and best fish and chips in New Zealand - not to greesy and they don't repeat...yay! Staff and owners are great. We travel from Richmond to get our fish and chips and I would recommend this fish and chip shop to everyone. Thanks guys.

I love there customer service, very friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed my food which was chicken chips and gravy. best gravy I've ever had and good price for it. Loved it. Hopefully maybe in the future i could be an employee at sands fish and chips :)

I am an Aussie tourist &amp; intend to try this Shop as was recommended by quite a few friends who went touring by car around the South island. Still looking for the rail tunnel running under the alps from east to west visa versa. I need someone to direct me next time. cheers Nico.
