People saying in reviews that the food is overpriced clearly don't eat out much. Food is expensive nowadays, get used to it. The prices were fine and the food was superb. I had their seafood pizza, and it was fantastic; the toppings were full of amazing flavor, the crust was lovely and crispy but not chewy, and the service was fantastic. 5 stars, definitely come here.

Absolutely fantastic. My wife and I had the ribs and carbonara respectively. Can't fault a single element on both dishes. Ray the owner and Om the head chef deserve top accolades. It's a pity we come from the North Island. Would highly recommend all to try it for yourself. 💯👍😊

Went back for a second time with friends. For $26.50, the lasagna was a very small portion! Smaller than the salad it came with, it was like a Salad with a side of lasagna. Unfortunate as the first meal (see above 'pasta') was really good. Lasagna was still tasty though, so hopefully they can change the serving size next time :)

Very tidy small restaurant. Quick polite professional service. Not long to wait for the entree or the mains. The serving size was fair and the taste was authentic and true Italian. Very much worth the stop to eat in or take away. Had an awesome time

Awesome pizza. The service was great and they went out of their way to accommodate some of our silly requests. The owner offered us some of his favorite dishes and they were excellent.

First time eating here..had a lovely rich glass of Montepulciano while my pizza was being made and enjoyed the atmosphere and the southern man pizza was great. Definitely coming back for a large pizza next time, it was that good.

Thought the staff were extremely friendly. Ordered the lamb feta and mint yoghurt pizza was absolutely delish with lots of flavour and the thai mussels which was also delicious. Would definately recommend for some tasty food!

We got take away pizza last night for a family of x4 adults. Ordered x3 pizza, pickup, costing around $60. The bases were very thin. There was no flavour in either of three. And very little toppings. Extremely disappointing.

I have missed canneloni since I had to become GF and it was amazing to be able to eat it again - GF and homemade! The ambience was nice and relaxed and the service was excellent, never a dirty plate left on the table. I will definitely be going back.

Popped in for takeaways. At $30 per pizza and $15 per salad, I thought this place must be amazing... I was severely wrong. The pizza was average at best, and the salad was very bland. I would have paid $20 all up. I can't comment on the dining experience, but avoid at all costs for takeaways. Other reviews seem to show similar themes... Perhaps a time to rethink, Chef?

Dinner for four on a Tuesday night. <br/>Right from the start, nothing seemed like too much trouble for the staff. Great service from the table reservation, to the special dietary requirements of one of our number (GF). Well done you guys.<br/>Restaurant was busy and staff were very industrious and attentive.<br/>Food was very good and well worth going back for.<br/>Well done Hot Rock!!

Don't get me wrong here the pizza we smashed was tasty, however hugely over priced for what we got, coming from someone who regularly dines in Auckland. I love pizza, one would even say a connoisseur of sorts so overall, disappointed.

I have been visiting Nelson every 6-8 weeks for the past five years and generally visit Hot Rock during my stay. I can honestly say in all the times I have been there I have never had a bad meal. The hosts are always friendly even when the place is full over summer. The food is always fresh and tasty. The pizza and pasta are up there with the best in the country and the desserts are to die for. Great wine list and beer selection. It's not the flashiest place around but more than delivers.

If you are looking for a good wood fired pizza, this is definitely not the place to go, the pizzas are not very good at all, doughy bases that resemble a bad frozen pizza. <br/><br/>Overpriced and bad, avoid!

I had the smaller portion of spaghetti with chorizo which I enjoyed, it had lots of fresh garlic and chilli , the portion suited my needs and I was advised of the two size options. I felt the service was good but a touch pushy for me. Perhaps needs a little bit of a lift in the atmosphere, vibe and decor.

Ridiculous price for average pizza. Took my son who loves his pizza but prices are silly and pizza only good. Seems they manage to get tourists staying locally to pay but now I know why I could find no locals that go.

My wife and I tried this place on a recent visit to Nelson. The staff were helpful, and the pizza was Ok. Seemed expensive for the size of pizza, but they did allow two varieties on the one pizza which was appreciated.

I was quite hungry and ordered the spaghetti thinking it would be quite filling. I was surprised to get a pretty small portion and finished it fairly quickly. The owner asked me if everything was all right with the food, and I complained that it was too small a portion, and his come back was "yes that's quite a small dish!". Nowhere in the menu did it say that. And then he had the cheek to say if you're still hungry then get a dessert. As you can imagine I didn't want to pay him another cent for another small portion.<br/>OK food but definitely lacking in quantity - how much money would it have cost this guy to make a reasonable size dish of spaghetti?

My wife and I never miss on having dinner and drinks at this friendly well priced restaurant. The service is great and the menu sufficient. What sells us is the incomparable ambience of the place and the owner, the wine selection and the irresistible fragance of good cooking.<br/><br/>This is not the Taj Mahal, but it is great value for money.
