Friendly, welcoming staff. Prompt service the Tuesday morning we last visited. Clean with modern decor. Plenty of parking both on the road and in the cafés own car park area. Sunny outdoor area to sit on although it catches the Southerly so plan to be inside when the weather is coming from down country?
This cafe has no competition in the vicinity! Situated on Barrett Road, The Backyard Cafe is loved by local residents and those who know their secret location. I have ordered duck croquettes with fennel and mandarin salad, wasabi mayo on a side. The dish was very elegant! Like a perfect affair, it was enough to tame the appetite but not enough to get bored. My husband had ordered their breakfast, which was also light, but nutritious. Extra points for a superb coffee: truly hot in those cool winter days. #duckcroquettes #lunch #cafe #taranaki

Was on a Motorcycle Rally, the Organisers of the rally set up lunch at the Backyard Cafe. The best Fish and Chips I've had, next time in the area will come back here.
Perhaps the best eggs Benedict I've ever had. And the Dragonfruit slushy was incredible. Nice to be to sitting outside. Good shelter from a scorching Taranaki afternoon. Sitting in the Frontyard of Backyard was very enjoyable...
Holiday weekend short staff one server long wait for food otherwise reasonable. Poor girl run off her feet

Very very very very good food and service. Dude in the kitchen is the Walter White of breakfast's. Front of house is very personable and caring for her patrons. Highly reccomend the 2nd mortgage, try with salmon and bacon. Smoky beans where terrific. Keep up the good work you absolute stellar legends
