Was craving for Chinese food and we stumbled on this restaurant in town. It looked empty from outside, but don’t be put off by it. Their kitchen was busy. Yep, I myself was surprised how popular it is with the locals. Plenty of takeaways. We were the only ones dining in, but every 5 minutes or less, people come in to pick up their orders! There were about 10 pick ups from the minute we stepped inside and left after our meal, and orders still coming in (we can hear the staff on the phone).
We consider ourselves lucky to find that roasted duck was still available. There was one portion (half a duck) left. 😅 It was so crispy. The sweet and sour pork was delicious. If anything, I wish the Ma Po Tofu was more spicy. Servings are generous and we were very full. We had Chinese tea for drinks though you can buy your own drink outside and they’ll charge a small corkage. They have soft drinks to choose from too. The lady that runs the restaurant is kind, cheerful and friendly. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Oamaru, check out this restaurant. Prices are reasonable and flavors are spot on.
The flavor is so wonderful,it's the best dinner I get since I come to New Zealand.They are very traditional and suits for everyone.My friends like them too.They said they haven't tasted better duck.
First time visit. You can have yum char or other dishes on the menu. What I have ordered is tasty and good portion. Will come back to try other dishes.
Awesome restaurant! We ordered a family meal set, perfect for 4 pax. Sweet & sour pork and roasted chicken are the best dishes ever. Even better if replace sweet corn soup with classic Chinese soup :) definitely recommend to come back again!

We encountered very pleasant and helpful staff, a good range of dishes, and the food was delicious. Golden Island is a sound dining out option in Oamaru. The prices are also very reasonable. I'll be going there again soon.
Really good food. Service is amazing. reading the reviews made me think that people come when the chefs are there alone and are going out back to cook food in which I've experienced before . Other than that absolutely amazing will definitely keep coming back.
Our group of 10 all agreed the meal was excellent. Lovely dishes and about the right amount of food . We choose the menu for 7 plus and added 3 more dishes . 5 Stars for both food , service .

Could maybe do with a little bit more art on the walls, though I am not sure.
Very very good black bean beef, satay is a bit more average, but to expect good satay might be asking a bit much - satay isn't a chinese dish, room for improvement there, still the calorific content was high, great sized servings.
Baked spring rolls as entree with something like Rick and Morty's Szechuan sauce, they were excellent.
Probably okay to have a drink, but definitely not a place for intoxication.
