Despite the low ish score on here we decided to try a few weeks back when it was not in lockdown. The food was really good (especially the skewers!) and priced reasonably for that standard. I believe they must have gotten a new chef or something compared to previous years as we been back for a second time and was still great!
Pretty good Japanese cuisine at orakei. We went here on mother's day. Japanese staffs always nice and friendly. And never have hygiene problem. Sake set is pretty cool. Ingredients all fresh and cooked well.
Great service timely to order, didnt know what to expect first, a bit pricier than average when we first ordered but nothing on the menu disappointed. Their tempura prawns were insane and agedashi tofu was awesome. Once again very well looked after , roomy for my 6months in a pram as well.
Definitely worth the money, 5/7 would recommend.
I have come here 3 times now and every time I have had a great experience. The staff here are so friendly and attentive. The food is always very fresh and cooked to perfection. I can recommend the karaage chicken and the pork katsu lunch special. The prices are extremely reasonable too. I will be returning soon I'm sure

Nice place. Nice food. Its basically McJapanese as its the same food you get in almost every other Japanese restaurant. Its not bad just exactly the same.
Great atmosphere! Food tasted nice and yummy with modern Japanese style. But their waitress was not that friendly. Overall it’s a good place to chill.

This outlet only opened for 1 and half to 2 months. So very new. Decided to have a try their lunch menu.
Decor:- Very basic decorations. Just 4 white walls. No pictures, no ornaments. Small open kitchen.
Service: - The lady server was very friendly, prompt, polite.
Food:- I ordered the Special Lunch Set. Very tasty, flavourful.
I will come back to try their dinner with my wife.
Great Japanese restaurant with wide selection of appetizers, sushi/sashimi, grill/fried dishes. You can enjoy preset menu or pickup your choices. High chair available. Not many seats, get full quickly, so booking is essential.
Superb... I guess it is a nice word to describe this amazing Japanese restaurant owned by native Japanese. We had 3 different sets of dishes, all come with rice, salad and miso soup, first with chicken, second with salmon and third with meat. The environment was well decorated with authenticity and harmony. Service was great and timely well. For dessert we chose sake brûlée, a mix of Japanese and French styles, deliciously and carefully prepared. As a kind complimentary surprise, the chef sent us small portions of brownies for our little kids. Certainly there will be more visits in the near future for one of the best Japanese restaurant in town.
A wonderful little restaurant at Orakei Basin serving authentic Japanese dishes that will leave your taste buds tingling. Featuring an open kitchen where the chef greets customers and practices his craft, the restaurant delivers a great experience at reasonable prices. For those wanting a light meal, their takeaway menu offers $11 teriyaki chicken or salmon donburi!

Saku Saku makes beautiful food especially lunch time deal is best. their udon and sushi lunch set is always my fav! their sashimi is so fresh and they give you a tea and mini dessert to finish off meal. service is top notch

I have been to Japan a few times... and have eaten a lot of Japanese food in restaurants both in Japan and around the world... and I'm well familiar with a good number of Japanese restaurants in Auckland.... Saku Saku is bloody good!!!!!!! Cannot fault their service or the quality of their food... delicious!!!!
Great little Japanese restaurant. The staff are tentative and polite as you would expect. Took the mrs for date night. Dont underestimate the noodles and dumpling. Easily my favourite part.
