Review Dear Coasties - Orewa

We are on holiday here and aimed to only eat at each restaurant once…this was our exception to that rule. The food was so good the first time we had to come the morning of our last day in town as well. The flat white was fantastic both times. The Dear Coasties Benedict was so delicious and we love that it is served on a rosti—made for a very filling breakfast between two people. The second time we got the avocado smash—the presentation was gorgeous and all the flavors tied perfectly together. It was a lighter meal but equally tasty! Highly recommend this spot!

A great range of pastries and sweet treats. It caters to all dietary requirements. A good use of indoor and outdoor flow. You can use free wifi & complete work independently. Service on arrival is great and the staff are friendly.

So good…..lots of people in the cafe on the way walk to the Orewa beach that make me want to try some even busy time and make me have to wait for but yes! worth it . No wonder why many people come here . They have many pastries looks good and the food in the cupboard looks very tasty. I bought the blueberry cheese cake at this time me and all my friends said the same it was super delicious perfect cheesecake ever. Will visit and try another foods and pastries next time for sure. Thank you.

We don’t usually review but because another had written a week ago that it was “disappointing”, we felt we needed to say that it’s a great casual cafe!! 😊 the food is fresh, the service is easy-going and casual, food came out quick and the coffee is top-notch! These young guys know what they are doing which is amazing to see as most young people are not really keen to really work! So we would say; GIVE IT A GO! Please understand that it’s a beach-side cozy cafe 😊🙏 and we should all be thankful that businesses like these are still going for us to enjoy. To the lady who only reviewed to complain, well, your loss for not helping the team here with your “concerns” at time of patron. Our best wishes and lastly they are so good with kids too! A kid broke a sugar jar and the team here were kind to not make a fuss to embarrass the parent 😊🙏💖 thanks again and keep it up 💪⭐️ we look forward to another time back here 😊

The food is delicious, cabinet have many options, lots of gluten free sweet treats too. Staff are so friendly and their coffee is always amazing. Keep up the good work. Will definitely be back.

I ordered a Salmon Benedict on this Monday. Super yummy! Especially the hash brown underneath that tasted super good! I thought it is made on their own! Crunchy and tasty! The toast is also good that tasted crispy and soft! you can choose combination of a toast and a hash brown underneath! It’s flexible! As a coastie, I’m so proud we have so many delicious cafe in our Orewa beach! I will recommend this cafe to my friends those are lived in other area. Btw, I’ll order two hash brown as underneath next time.😁😁😁

Been here twice, once with family and once with friends and have always enjoyed their food, atmosphere and service. We ordered their smoked Salmon Benedict, creamy mushroom, squid rings, and iced mocha which were all delicious! A perfect brunch experience that I highly recommend.

Found this little gem on a side street after a friendly waiting on staff stop us to check out the menu which have a great selection of food and was surprised how quick the food come out with the amount of people at the cafe. Great food, great menu and great service that I'll definitely will be back when I'm in the area. Highly recommend

Our family came here for lunch. 8th oct. Food came out quickly and drinks all tasted great, coffee good. Food presented well. Service was good. Plenty of staff on to keep things running smooth. Best nachos I’ve had in 20 years. (Odd having pineapple and jalapeños but was still great) would recommend.

What a cool place. Off the main drag so a bit quieter. Very dog friendly, can sit outside even if it rains as it's covered. And the food is fantastic. In the photo are the beetroot latte and yuzu chicken salad.

This has to be the absolute best cafe in Orewa. Staff were super friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. I had the chicken salad, consisting of so many ingredients and delicious flavours. Hubby had the big breakfast and was very pleased with his choice. It was a very generous sized meal too.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be treated like Royalty - to be genuinely looked after? I went to Dear Coasties a couple of days ago and the experience was spectacular. I walked in and was pleasantly greeted and went to the counter not too sure of what to get. The waiter suggested in a kind manner to maybe sit down and he'll bring me a menu. I found my ideal seat (they have booths) and ordered my breakfast. The DELICIOUS coffee came first and fast and then my breakfast - the waiter continued to be polite and genuine. The service is exemplary - I have never experienced this at any cafe in New Zealand - NEVER and it is right in Orewa. Don't ever take "Dear Coasties" for granted as this kind of service is rare. The energy and atmosphere is nothing short of stunning - lots of smiles and care. I'm sure with the kind of culture they have created regular customers would be high. Thanks so much Dear Coasties.

I was very impressed, this is not your run of the mill, generic cafe. The atmosphere is really nice, starting with being greeted by the friendly staff when we got in, right down to choice of mugs and plates in which my delicious decaf coffee was served. The french toast i had tasted great and was presented on the plate like a 5 star hotel. The cafe has a lot of tables and it was very busy, lots of customers. Highly recommend this place!!!

Went in for a pre wedding brunch, and out of us 6 guys, i was the only one to not recieve my meal-the waitress didnt put it through, or the kitchen never made it. After about 5 minutes after eveyone else got their food amd drinks, i informed a waiter and he went and got out docket off the spike at the pass, came over and looked at our table, went back to the kitchen, then came out to me and told me it would like 'like 30 seconds'. Im a chef, so i know mistakes happen, but the waiter didnt even attempt to apologise, which is quite disappointing, and quite frankly, not very hospitable. Furthermore, dont cook and hold your bacon untill its dried and crunchy-not nice, and a little salt on your eggs would be better than none. Im not usually one to write a review, ever, but i couldnt let this slide, especially on my best friends wedding day.

Just moved to orewa, called in for a coffee, wow the staff were so welcoming and helpful, coffee was great and the cream donuts the best I have had, all the food looked amazing, the cafe had a great atmosphere and lovey decor can’t wait to return.

I had breakfast with my family (wife, 8 yr old, and 13 month old daughters) yesterday. Impressed. I arrived before my little tribe, having grabbed a quick haircut, I was seated immediately (around 8:40am) which was a result of good luck rather than lack of patronage - the place was buzzing. Roomy, airy with a relaxed beach feel, I was able to pick up a fresh NZ Herald and order a Tumeric Almond milk Latte (Im a boring flat white dude normally but the range of innivative options at this lication beg you to experiment I did). The drink arrived quickly...not wonderful to taste...but I acclimatised to the chalky tumeric taste and half way through I found myself enjoying it. Family arrived and were quickly seated, baby chair promptly provided. My daughter ordered childrens pancakes which included fresh banana and was beautifully presented - she felt special (in a nice way). My wife ordered the open omelette with Salmon which she thoroughly enjoyed. I had chilli potato with poached eggs and fried kale crisps...bloody marvellous - and I felt so healthy I irdered ...a beetroot and soy latte ...UTTERLY MAD! Bloody delicious - truly I cannot lie. My wife even stole some! We have a new local. It cost $63 including drinks for my one and only, and our darling. Staff were friendly and helpful...place was clean, lively and fresh. Do it.

Came in last Friday, Nice atmosphere and decor and lovely staff, my only issue was ordering a meal at $17 ( salt and pepper squid ) it offered a salad or fries with it, I chose salad , expecting to see more than afew small lettuce leaves it was more a garnish on the side , no cucumber/tomato/red onion just the few bits of lettuce , so I essentially paid $17 for about 6/7 bits of squid , a bit more of a proper salad would be perfect

Super friendly, warmly welcomed our son's Assistance Dog and the food and service was amazing!!! Thank you for making our Fragile X mums breakfast and my husbands birthday very special.

This place has a $2 surcharge for vegans, which is both odd and discriminating. Will not be spending my money here...

The English breakfast tea service is just spectacular with lovely China. Scones amazing

Lovely brunch with friends <br/>Busy little spot with such great food .<br/>We had a ten minute wait which was all good they have a nice outdoor heated area we could sit our dog too which was great <br/>There is a huge variety of brunch options to choose from so everyone will find something <br/>I had the vegan avocado toast which was lovely ,I didnt like the lotus chops but thats personal taste really the rest of it was lovely <br/>My friends had the bug breakfast which was a real big portion and nice mix of usual but some healthy greens added .and my other friend had the chicken burger which must have been good as he inhaled it .<br/>All in all great food overall and generous portions such a hidden gem ,we will definitely be back <br/>

Dear Coasties never fails to impress me. Good selection of options with a fusion twist. I've never had anything from the cabinet, but I always told myself that I will try it some day cause it looks so appealing. On this day I had the Kimchi Pancake and my partner had the Eggs Benedict with Salmon. The kimchi pancake had the perfect flavour with the perfect amount of crispiness. The hollaindaise sauce with the Eggs Benedict was on the more vinegary side which I love (hate it when it's too rich and creamy). Eggs were cooked to perfection.<br/>Staff are always super quick and friendly and food always served promptly.

Awesome staff, awesome breakfast. In lockdown 2 and all staff wearing masks. They even check you temperature on entry for piece of mind. Food was excellent as usual, the staff were friendly and service was quick. Well done!

Best brunch in Orewa. Friendly and welcoming staff. Coffee is always lovely. Pancakes are great! Dog parking is an added bonus. Quieter on weekdays.

They seated us before we could choose if we wanted to eat there and tried to tale our order straight away. None of us were ready and we asked for more time and she came back less than 5 mins later. Burger was horrible and had no structure and fell apart as soon as i picked it up <br/><br/>I was going to pay and the asian cashier was talking to the barrister in another language while i was trying to pay.<br/><br/>Another thing is if you go at christmas time 2019 there is a raffle for if you spend over 80$ you go into the draw bla bla but the lady in front of us spent $120 and the cashier pretended to pop her recite into the draw box but once she turned the cashier took it out of the box and threw it out.

Very tasty food. Very quick as it was packed and lots of takeaway orders. Lots of gluten free options to choose from. Lovely staff and very friendly. Overall good vibes and good food.

It may look like your average neighborhood cafe, DearCoasties is anything but!<br/><br/>I wandered in with two friends on a Thursday lunch time and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and vibrancy of the place was awesome. We managed to get a table. The cafe was filling up quickly.<br/><br/>We ordered the porkbelly eggs benes and two medium Lattes, and fries to share. Coffees were great, fries were just perfectly prepared.<br/>The porkbelly eggs bene were crisp, flavourful but not overpowering with beetroot infused chopped up apples on top were just wonderfully refreshing your pallets. The whole dish worked together beautifully.<br/>By the end of the meal we were talking about coming back to this gem of place in Orewa.

Flat white was too milky for a regular mug and the male wait staff kept shouting a lot. Reminded me of a wet market. Food and portion was good otherwise.

Food quality is good plenty of choices and the savoury dishes are really nice, especially the pies and rolls. Portion sizes are quite big, and the food is fairly priced. The service is good, all the waiters and waitresses are friendly. The sweet things here aren't the best (not bad either, just not the same quality as the savoury food) - the nutella cake had hardly any nutella and too much flour, caramel slice had too much butter and vanilla cake was missing whipped cream and real vanilla.

Came here for a "coffee catch up" with a friend. I got an almond matcha latte but wasn't very impressed with the texture or flavour. Due to the bitter nature of matcha, most cafes use honey, maple or similar to sweeten the drink, however this one didn't seem to have anything added. I had to put in two packs of sugar and it still wasn't sweet enough. The matcha itself also had a strange taste, slightly like banana. Staff were putting tables and chairs up next to us even before the cafe closing time which made us leave before we finished catching up.

Incredible food and service. Food portions are very generous and will worth the price. However, it does get really busy very quickly, but once you are in, it is well worth it.

horrible service - wasnt treated without any respect - one waitress was on her phone and ignored us without greeting us or serving us - didnt stick around to find out what the food and coffee was like, we left after this rude experience and will not be returning. I contacted the owners but have had no responce so have decided to leave a review online so other customers can be warned - beware of the rude horrible bad worker at dear coasties - horrible service, they need to re train them OR hire better staff!

Good coffee shop. The service was nice and helpful and the beverages were tasty. Only issue was that there was limited seating and the place was a little noisy.

Some have very unique flavours/combinations and the garnishing are very beautiful and IG worthy.<br/><br/>My only complaint (a petty one tbh soz hahah) would be the water/glasses as it almost feels like a shot glass and we end up so thirsty. I used the tap water myself but the staff took over and told me they'd do it themselves - will probably just ask for a jug next time :P

Such a great restaurant! The food was delicious and healthy which is what I am very fussy about and I loved how majority of their dishes were gf and had a vegan option which was so nice to see!

Very pretty and nice presentation of food, Attractive at first sight. A bit Fusion of Korean and western food. The French toast I order is a bit too sweet, a bit less sugar will be nicer. Food was served very fast.

The only downsides were the staff annoyed us so many times, we got asked if we were ready to order about 5 times within30 seconds. I ordered the buttermilk pancakes and mushroom meltdown (two items I know #lifeofafoodie) and both were delicious but the pancakes felt abit pricey for what I got In the end. The iced coffee I got was SUPER sweet aswell.<br/><br/>Service: 7/10<br/>Food:9/10<br/>Value for money:5/10<br/>Ambiance : 6/10 (nice space just seemed crammed and loud all the time). <br/>

Great ice coffee its no ordinary thing, soft cream with an Oreo nestling on top! Try the seafood risotto it’s delicious with a touch of spring pea tendrils and seared scallops ...

Fast, friendly service. Great food with generous portions and nice extra touches. My avocado on toast came with tomatoes, feta, kale chips and lotus chips. My son devoured his pancakes and the toasted marshmallows were a nice touch. My husband enjoyed his beef burger with fries too. We couldn't resist the cabinet food which looked delicious and had a takeaway ginger slice. We will definitely teturn next time we visit Orewa

What a wonderful cafe. The vibe and feel was great. Lovely flow and in vogue decor. The staff were fast, efficient, effective, friendly and polite. The place was super busy, but the staff worked very well as a team so that even though it was busy, there was still good service. The coffees came out super quick, followed by the food. The menu selection was large, with something for everyone. What we ordered tasted amazing and watching the other food come out of the kitchen looked impressive as well. Whenever I am in Owera, this is the place to be

Had a terrible beginning to the Saturday morning. After waiting for more than 45 minutes for a simple breakfast order for two, we didn’t even get an explanation of what happened to our order. It seemed that there were plenty of people working but with no clear direction. When we finally decided to go somewhere else and wanted to pay for the coffee, the checkout had our full order showing on their system (so it was not lost) but had no clue why it wasn’t served. We left without any breakfast and no apologies or explanation. Very disappointing and extremely disorganised.

Looks like a normal cafe but the food is really really good. The burger was soooo delicious, I highly recommend it. My mom had the salmon bagel, she said it was very tasty. They are generous with their toppings which is why it’s full of flavour. <br/>The fries were just sensational, I cleaned my plate. <br/>Definitely be going back!!!!

I love the kimchi pacake. Soft Crag was a bit overburn. Coffee just OK. But the whole environment was amazing. Really friendly staff. Definitely coming back.

Haven’t eaten here but got some takeaway slices that were wicked. My daily extra strong small cappuccino is the best I’ve found in orewa, staff are well friendly and after a few days knew my coffee order as I walked in. Will be visiting for sure next holiday. Thanks guys. Doing good.

Worst experience here!! Came with my family, was busy, but usually is. Got our order taken and waited, and waited more whilst all the tables near us got their food and coffees. After 30 minutes we asked about our order, they had forgotten to put it in the system, the girl who served told us she will make sure it’s a priority to get it out fast. We then waited another 15 minutes whilst coffee was being made and food was going out to every other table but ours. The girl hadn’t even checked on our coffees or food. We had had enough and left, very unhappy. Went to Oliver’s Cafe after and got a great coffee after 5 minutes of ordering!

The best coffee in Orewa and the food is amazing. It's our new favorite place to go for breakfast or brunch on the weekend. And they do text coffee orders 😀

We travel from central Auckland to go to this cafe! Amazing food & selection, great service and is so well run. Beautifully presented food, lots of staff, but we didn’t have a good experience. I ordered the mushroom & quinoa potato Rosti stack. Usually if I don’t love something, I power through and eat it because I paid good money for it. But I only got a quarter of the way through then had to stop. It was “unpleasant”. My partner was suspicious they’d cooked it in a pan which hadn’t been washed after cooking fish. Partners home-made hollandaise sauce was way too strong, but he ate it all. When I told the cashier it was not good, she said “oh OK, did you like the coffee though”? I didn’t have coffee, in fact I was pretty thirsty because my request for water was ignored. Really disappointed in my meal and in the cashiers lack of concern for unhappy customers.

5 stars. Beautiful free range chicken, great prices. The quality of food is very high and no corners are cut. You can tell they use the best ingredients.

Had breakfast here this morning service was above and beyond and loved that it's dog friendly outside. The atmosphere is perfect my only gripe is that some of my bacon was over cooked and the food looked so good I ate half my wife's burger and fries so I walked out of there over fed... I'm trying to lose weight guys don't make your food so good ☺. I'd highly recommend this place

Food presentation is generally great but the tastes of foods were very disappointing. Even lower than average. Wouldn’t go back for foods but maybe for coffee. Very nicely designed cafe.

Service was excellent and despite the cafe being fully packed our food was served within 10 mins of ordering. Beautifully presented and the menu had so many options to choose from. Would say this is probably the best cafe I have ever been to.

Busy lunch time. Got a seat as someone was leaving. No menu given, had to get it from the counter, waited 5 mins to have table wiped. Took another while to have a waiter to order. Food arrived in about 10 mins which is good. We ordered chicken salad and steak open sandwich. Both presentation very good. Chicken is a bit try but flavour is good and generous amount. Had a super berry smoothies which is yummy. Overall good is good, service is average.

It opens on Easter holiday with no surcharge, which made it pretty busy. We waiting for 20mins to get a seat. Staff are friendly and coffee was served fast. But not the food, another 20 mins wait. However considering it was holiday, it is forgivable. After all a 4 star rating, food is not bad, a little bit over cooked.

I ordered a flat white takeaway and although the service was friendly and quick I got a piping hot flat white! Couldn’t drink it for at least 5 minutes. And the flavour of the coffee wasn’t great either. The cabinet cakes though looked so good and the place was full so food must be good there. I’ll give their food a go another time

Love Dear Coasties! Just what Orewa needs. The service is quick and attentive and they genuinely seem happy which is so nice to see. The food always comes out quick and is consistently delicious. Coffee sizings are very generous, even the medium. Keep it up team!

We stopped here for lunch after the Rodders Beach Festival and were impressed by the friendly, cheerful staff, and even though the place was crazy busy, they were very attentive to all their customers, checking on them and clearing away dishes promptly. They took our orders with a smile and our meals, which arrived in short order, were amazing. I had the french toast which was almost too pretty to eat, and we both had iced chocolate to drink and they were divine on such a hot day. All in all, a great little cafe with heaps of charm.

They have a large range of milk options available therefore great variety for food allergies. The cabinet food is also so intricate and delicious therefore is suitable for any sort of occasion.<br/><br/>The staff are all so friendly and alert, ensuring a nice experience and caring environment. Helpful in finding something on the menu for someone picky like myself. The entire vibe of this cafe is chilled out and friendly, highly recommended.

Wow! What an incredible place. I have never been somewhere, where every single staff member is so friendly, attentive and genuinely exceptional at their job. The coffee, great. The food, so generously sized. I ordered a side of avo and got a full avocado on my plate! The cabinets are full of incredible looking food and such huge variety. The menu, healthy and so diverse. Wow factor smoothies on offer! Decor is clean and fun. I couldn't rate this place more. Nothing to fault.

Fantastic customer service, I had the potato rosti which was full of flavour and a generous portion. Ambience is great, we stayed long after our meals were eaten and wished we had room for some of the amazing selection from the front counter. I’d definitely recommend booking a table as it’s a busy little place.

I've been here a few times now. Service is very good - they are very punctual and friendly. Recommend reserving tables as they are quite popular and are often a full house. Food never disappoints - cabinet food and desserts are one of my go to's.

The Decore is nice but it seems a pitty to be so close to the beach and not be able to see it. <br/><br/>On arrival we were Greeted and sat at a table. It was busy and unfortunately the only table left was right next to the toilet door. We were given water straight away and it was kept topped up.<br/><br/>The menu is the same as Cafe Hibiscus in Whangaparaoa and we ordered two Coast breakfast complete with soy flat white’s. The food and coffe were good.<br/><br/>We were asked how we wanted our eggs cooked, I choose scrambled and was surprised to be charged an extra $2. Upon inspection of the menu, it does say +$2 scrambled, but I would have been just as happy with poached.<br/><br/>Total bill for two was $47:20.<br/>

Awesome ambiance, including for groups and families, visible customer service the minute you walk in, this place has become very popular very quickly and it is easy to see why. A very inviting decor, to sit inside or outside. Being a vegetarian, the food choices are limited. A real shame, I would love to visit Dear Coasties more frequently and to support them, perhaps one day when the range/selection of vegetarian food widens.  In my opinion, I do not rate the q a much better quality of the coffee as being the best in Orewa, there are plenty of other places in Orewa for this. Overall definitely a place to be recommended for ambiance and service, well done Dear Coasties!

Didnt manage to take a pic of the food as it was too delicious. Very well priced cabinet food with an amazing selection! Service is always fantastic and they have some epic coffee. My new favourite ❤

(Been frequently checking Zomato to see when this café would be added so I can write my first review.) Anyway, staff are always so friendly! Been back here many times and it's always bustling with people. I love the coziness of the interior with the plants, wood and lighting.The cabinet cheesecake is especially AMAZING ♥ Yummy food and great service- highly recommend.

Managed to get a seat on a Sunday morning for brunch, great location, great food, great turmeric lattes! Service was average however they were very busy....

Dear Coasties has a very cool interior, lots of seating although it is busy almost all the time. Rightly so, as the menu, cabinet food and coffee is amazing! The service is always friendly, quick and fairly casual which I like. The cost is worth every penny. This could be the best cafe on the coast imo!
