Review Captain Kerr's Fish N Chips - Orewa

Very nice, phoned an order thru & 10 mins later picked it up, all neatly placed in a box to carry it out in. Seafood chowder (large) is HUGE - way more than expected (bonus) & lots of nice chunks of seafood. Fish of the day was some of the nicest fish I've had, & hot dog's were great. Chips were very tasty & nicely cooked.

Best fish and chips on the Coast, fish is very fresh and fillets are a generous size. Nicely battered, thin and crispy and not oily, chips equally good. Highly recommend the battered oysters too. Looking forward to trying their burgers next time but if the fish and chips are anything to go on then they'll be more than decent.

Foods good for a quick stop for some fish and chips, although the chips almost seem floury and dry, I got squid rings and hotdogs last time and the odor from the packet wasn't nice smelling, very fishy. Food didn't taste fishy, so not sure why it smelt like that. Milkshakes are amazing !!!

I live here for 5 years and I have their fish and chip almost every fortnight. The fish is the standout here; one bite will leave you wanting more. The fish is fresh and crispy outside, without leaving an oily after taste. The chip is crispy and fluffy on the inside. I think i have the best fish and chip in Auckland !!! Good to try it out for sure !!!

Food was very yummy. My kids loved the chicken nuggets and chips. Fish was melt in your mouth good and the egg burger went down a treat. Service was great with less than 10minute wait and our food brought out to where we were sitting

Top one Fish and Chips in Hibiscus Coast. Strongly recommend the Grilled Scotch Fillet Burger and Cajun Snapper Burger. My family all time favourites!

One of the nicer place to have fish and chip in auckland. Quite affordable for the hearty amount of serving. Battered snapper and the chip is spot on and delicious. Definitely coming back here again next week. Highly recommended!

Great fish & chips very long wait, Over an hour wait on a Fri nights. Pays to phone order through, don't order over Internet, the phone system can't handle the volume of calls.

We tried their snapper and chips a week ago on a Sunday and it was nice.Chicken nuggets weren't that great.

I’ve had both Chicken & bacon burger, scotch fillet burger & there beef burger. I tell you what for the money one of the best fish & chip shops I’ve ever been too! Absolutely incredible & got me addicted. Girls in there are always lovely & haven’t had one fault with orders placed. Me & my young family have eaten there 3 times with decent size orders & they get it bang on every time. That first bite of the burgers honestly is just incredible. I’ve been to restaurants charging $20 to $25 dollars & no where near as good as Captain Kerrs! Also fries & photo fritters with a bit of bbq sauce go down a treat. You will thank me later trust me! Thanks to Captain for your amazing work keep it up team I wish you all the best & I will definitely be a repeat customer!

I got the fish of the day, best fish I've had in New Zealand. Chips are good, staff friendly, from my experience I would recommend. For any Aussie's, the potato cakes aren't anything like what we have at home.

If you need a quick bite in Orewa this is the place. Generous helpings. Fish and chips are great but the prawn and calamari is is also prepared really well.

Delightful village cafe. Good food Wonderful friendly helpful staff. Worth a stopover.

We drive for 40 minutes to come here to get our fish n chips. Kids love it and they have awesome kid meals of decent serving size from $4 to $6.50. Just had their fresh snapper grilled burger and it was delicious. Could taste the lemon and super super fresh. Nice view of the beach. Dog loves the chips too.

Crispy chips with good quality fish, battered but not soggy, salty but not too salty. Generous portions, cheaply priced and friendly service. Will be back.

I was over charged for my order! Would’ve gone back except I gave my boyfriend the card and he doesn’t notice those things, plus we live far away. Food was nice and hot except tasteless and the chips were far too oily, unpleasant taste. :( disappointed

Exceptional 'gourmet' fish and chips. Everything here is just a little higher quality and a little more special. I particularity appreciate they way they serve/wrap everything separately, so the fish is never in with the chips and soggy, even the fritters are served in their own little bag. Makes a big difference!

great takeaways tonight. fish, squid rings, oyster, scallops and chips.. the best we've had on the Coast. <br/>also I got the grilled snapper salad. it was delicious. fresh & crisp. the fish was cooked perfectly, not greasy and not too much dressing.

We have been here a few times before. It's a step up from your regular burger joint, with a lot of items made in house and a selection of salads on the menu.<br/><br/>Today we made a phone order for two veggie burgers, a hamburger, a kids hamburger and chips. The phone was answered straight away and everything was ready when they said it would be. This came to $30:50 for a family of 4.<br/><br/>The lack of parking right outside can be off putting on cold winter nights, but the food is always good.

And in Captain Kerrs homemade offering, I think we have a clear winner. I've tried seafood chowder at restaurants and takeaway establishments all over Auckland and, quite simply, none of them come close to the taste and assortment of whole seafood that comes with the chowder at CK. At $8.50 for a regular serving, with whole prawns, scallops and mussels (along with the usual diced fish and calamari) they really do put some of the other more fancied places to shame. Located right on the beach, you really couldn't ask for more from a fish'n'chips store. Heck, we live 30min away from Orewa and would still rather make the drive up there, than settle for any of the local offerings. <br/><br/>Little tummy: Hands down the best seafood chowder in Auckland. For less than $10 you get more seafood than you would for double the price at some other places (for shame - you know who you are). The regular serving always leaves me super full, but I still find myself finishing it every time (mainly to stop my bf from eating it!). Pick up some bread rolls from the super market and treat yourself a trip to CKs for their seafood chowder. It's well worth the trip!

They never answer their phone! I've called over different days and times and rang over and over again for longer than 10 mins and nothing!!!

Good fish, especially crumbed or grilled. Snapper burgers are good too. Often during busy times you have to wait for 10-20 minutes, but worth the wait.

Great place for a Summer dinner. Recommend fresh snapper, grilled prawns or scallops and pumpkin fritters. <br/>You can miss the rash by going after 6.30pm.

This place is the shizzle the chips are crunchy on the outside soft in the middle the fish is always fresh and delicious and the burgers are yummy love this place!!

When we first moved to Orewa all of the fish n chip shops sucked. I was sad. Then Captain Kerrs opened and raised the bar. Now it's the only fish n chip shop in Orewa and I reckon one of the best in the country. Believe me I would know!

I changed to this fish and chip shop after a friend bought from them for us all and it was perfection. Tonight I went in to collect an order. In full view of me waiting at the counter she used her fingers to put my fish in the paper and wrap it up. This is after working on the till where she handled money... One of the filthiest things you can handle. Yuck. For goodness sake use tongs. Service is friendly. Place looks nice and clean... Shame to be let down by this hygiene issue! Not keen to go back now :(

Best fish and chip shop in Orewa. The servings of chips are huge. THe fish is cooked to perfection. The staff are friendly, it is our new local. Go to this fish and chip shop if you want yummy fresh food.

Won't come here again. We made a phone order and were told 15 mins. After an extra 30 minute wait, ( they started cooking AFTER we got there) we got stuck with greasy greasy expensive food. And the cook, what a grump he was, he argued with me about how long we had been waiting! Bad service. If i could you wouldnt even get that 1 star.

The best vegie burger ever, ample supply of chips.<br/>It's now our go to takeaway in Orewa. Friendly staff as well.<br/>Very clean premises with a current newspaper to read as well. The soup menu is on our list of things to try.

Stopped in here today on my way home from Whangarei and the whole way home I knew and kept reminding myself to write a review for this takeaways. Absolutely awesome! It was restaurant quality food wrapped in newspaper. The salads are of the same high quality as well. I would highly recommend everyone stop in here. I have NEVER come across a takeaways where the seafood is fresh as can be, the pricing is very reasonable and the service was more than just a smile. Thank you Captain Kerr's for ending my holiday on a high note.

This is a new fish &amp; chip shop in Orewa that we tried last night, and I have to say, it should up the game of the others.<br/><br/>The burgers were very good, a single scoop of chips at just $2.50 was more than we could eat. The potato fritters were consistent size and yummy. Chips were done perfectly.<br/><br/>Gourmet fish burger was yummy, and only complaint was it didn't have a fancy bun. But it is $2 cheaper than the competition, so not really unexpected.<br/><br/>Service was friendly and professional. They also give you free sauce.<br/><br/>So,I'd highly recommend them, especially as they have far longer hours than the others.<br/><br/>They also do scoop icecream and milkshakes, which sets them apart from their main competition. I suspect they will have a booming summer trade with the beach and park right across the road.

We went there after reading other good reviews. Unfortunately we were unlucky. <br/><br/>The fish was terribly greasy and over salted. We threw away a chunk of it in the end. <br/><br/>The fries were also over salted. <br/><br/>No lemons provided!!<br/><br/>The "squid rings" are them frozen processed disgusting ones that taste and look nothing like squid or calamari rings<br/><br/>I personally had a stomach ache at night from all the grease. <br/><br/>We will definitely avoid this place.
