Review The Fat Farmer - Palmerston North

Great vibe, service, and food. We went here for my mums 70th, it was perfect. We were a group of 4 kids under 12 years old and 8 adults. We had a set menu, which was excellent. Mum was able to switch a few dishes around beforehand, so when we arrived, no decisions had to be made, and we could just relax and enjoy the evening. The bao, prawns, and crispy chicken were excellent. The lamb, green vegetables, and chips were a lot of food. We ended up with quite a bit of takeaway. The staff were excellent! Friendly and efficient. The vibe was great. It's a busy place, really comfortable with casual decor, bar / restaurant vibe, loud yet you could easily hear everyone at your own table. I can highly recommend this place!

First time at Fat Farmer last night and it was for my birthday! The atmosphere was amazing, food was delicious (I’ll be dreaming about the goats cheese, lamb, and kale 🤤), and the service was a 10/10. Georgia was a GREAT waitress, and made sure we were happy and was happy to be there. She also did a group photo shoot for us so we had to give her 5 ⭐️. All in all amazing experience with Fat Farmer and I will definitely be back again!

Delicious Angus beef satay pancake things. That's all I had, I'll be back tomorrow to try more, though.

We had the set shared menu which was just fabulous. Grace does an outstanding job, wonderful friendly staff, accommodating and always smiling. The atmosphere is terrific and food consistently amazing, this is our go to place in Palmerston North.

Amazing service and great pricing. Really enjoyed steamed bao bun and mashed potato. Signature lamb shoulder was great, crispy on the outside and tender inside. Would come again for the duck roll as many people ordered it XD

This is a great place for a lovely beer and a fantastic meal. The lamb shoulder is a must have. The cauliflower asparagus and couscous were excellent dishes to accompany the lamb. This established would rival the best in any of out big city's without a doubt. I can highly recommend spending some of your time and money at The Fat Farmer.

We had such a good night at the Fat Farmer. We’ve lived in Palmy for a year now and it was our first time visiting - can’t believe we haven’t made it sooner - we are already planning our next visit. Georgia was our waitress, she was amazing, very helpful, attentive and lovely. We started with a round of the cocktail special - cranberry lime and passion fruit 😋 we brainstormed a name - something along the lines of Cr-ime of Passion - definitely would order it if it is on the menu. We loved the $65 set menu - the goats cheese was a stand out! We shared the cheesecake to finish - the lemon balm sorbet was unreal and unlike anything we had ever tried. Epic evening, great atmosphere, thank you ❤️

Wow!! Just fabulous. I've been drawn to this place for some time and chose to eat tonight for a special occasion with friends and family! The service was outstanding, friendly, helpful! The food was incredible. I cannot wait to go back!

Definitely recommend booking in advance as it gets quite busy ! The lam shoulder is definitely worth ordering and cauliflower! Recommend this place !

I had my birthday dinner at the Fat Farmer and was served by Georgia, a lovely waitress. Georgia was most inviting with supreme service. She was funny and charming and very well spoken. Being my first time at the Fat Farmer, it was a very welcoming atmosphere because of our fantastic waitress!

Great service, brilliant food (highly recommend the bao buns and goats cheese!!) We had the cosiest little seat by the window and just admired the place after finishing our food. Fantastic little place, will be returning.

Was a busy Friday night, service was excellent and drinks, food were brought out quickly and tasted amazing. Great wine list to pair with dishes. Look forward to dining again soon

Great atmosphere..wonderful attentive service..but the the food from an amazing Chef Janet Grey and her staff you have to go!

We spent a night in Palmerston North on route to Napier and after a lot of research we phoned to book a table at the Fat Farmer. We bought our 5 month old daughter in her pram, which wasn't a problem although we were initially given a high table but easily swapped to a low table on request. We decided to skip entrees and go straight to the main course and we're glad we did because the lamb is a huge meal for two people, although you definitely need to order an additional side. The food itself was delicious and well cooked. The drinks were good, although I personally find the Kiwi cocktail to be way too sweet for my liking (the APA on tap war nice however)

Food was amazing. Highly recommend the pork bar, roasted cauliflower and broccolini! Really great portions sizes. Shared between 3 x and still had leftovers! Bit crowded during level 2 and no sign in registration or hand sanitizer that we could see? But great service and food regardless

Just amazing. This is by far one of the best eatery I’ve visited in Palmerston North. Loved the food and the presentation ♥️ staff are super friendly. You might have to wait a little if you go at a busy time but definitely worth it.

Nice atmosphere, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I have a food allergy and they were excellent with that. Nice beer on tap. The only thing that I found to let the place down was (arguably also the most important part) the food. It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great - there were a lot of little things I didn't like with each dish; too much salt, uneven slices of meat, brownie texture a bit chewy, etc. In short: nice place, nice staff, nice beer, average food. Definitely go try the place out but I don't think it lives up to the hype.

I was impressed with The Fat Farmer before I even arrived. We needed 3 high chairs and they worked hard to try and achieve that for us. The communication was great from the start. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. I think next time I go I will only go with a couple of people as there were 8 adults and 4 children and it was a little cramped. Overall a great night before the All Blacks. Thank you so much

First time dining at the fat farmer tonight. Both food and service were great. Loved the plate sharing and every plate was amazing. Will definitely go again.

nice food, but every bad timing on food delivery. No real entrees or main sized meals so portion wise you either get too little or too much to eat. Don't go as a group of any size as they divide the total food cost evenly among everyone. so if you only eat 1 dish you'll end up paying double for it!

Had dinner here tonight for our end of year work function. The food was delicious and the service was great and super friendly. Loved every minute of it. My new fave restaurant. Will definitely be back!

Went for Valentines, the most divine food. Thankyou so much, it was a pleasurable dining experience and the staff were lovely.

The restaurant was really busy but the lovely staff managed to squeeze us into a table. The service was excellent. The main I had (pork belly with a side salad) was one of the best things I've ever eaten! I will definitely be going back.
