Review Lone Star - Palmerston North

We just happened to stop in to lone star and get a seating by chance and ordered a lasso of hog and a 250g sirloin steak it was bloody amazing and the service was truly outstanding. There was a desert chef always ready to help wonderfully polite and the sales people There were two ...I think one was called Tom.b truly amazing service....this place i attend to brag about because they are a place my husband and I will take our family back to in future just because they have outstanding service and food. Thanks lone star palmerston north for our wonderful experience with yous ❤ 😊 your very happy customers..

Food was good, cooked well, portions seem smaller from a year ago, when I last ate at the Lone Star and like everything else, prices have gone up, service was super fast, almost had a bottle of beer all over me, when the waitress brought my husband's beer to him! Fortunately, it landed on the floor and up the wall! All in all, it was a pleasant evening and quite entertaining. Would definitely go again.

We had our Christmas Function at Lone Star last Saturday and the food and service was exceptional. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, kept checking we were all fine for drinks and if we needed anything. We had a party of about 20, everyone commented on how tasty the food was and so well presented and all went home very happy with the whole night. I would certainly recommend Lone Star for great night out.

Bailee listened to our needs with wanting no sugar around the top, first time having a cocktail. We came in as we wanted to be served by bailee, however she was chucked on the bar at short notice due to another staff member leaving their shift. Bailee did not sit down, she was cleaning, keeping her area tidy, making drinks on a busy Friday evening and communicating with peers in a friendly matter, as someone who used to work hospo much older than bailee I am beyond proud to see her worth ethic, communication skills and attention to detail. It's absolutely wonderful to walk into a restaurant and be greeted the way we were. The reviews of you bailee say it all. Keep it up.

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Lone Star for lunch today with my family, and it was truly a memorable experience. First and foremost, the food was beyond outstanding. The Gerhard Burger was the highlight of the meal — genuinely the best burger I've tasted in years. Juicy, flavorful, and crafted to perfection! But what truly enhanced the meal was the stellar service. Ethan (I think was his name), our waiter, added the cherry on top with his friendly demeanor and attentive service. It felt like dining amongst friends, with Ethan ensuring that our experience was nothing short of perfection. I'll definitely be returning, and I'd recommend anyone in the vicinity to pop in for a bite — and make sure to try that Gerhard Burger!

Had a really pleasant evening here last week. Ethan served our desserts and was quite funny. Very good service, and the food was up to a great standard.

Exceptional service and food. Everything came out on time and all staff were accommodating to our toddler, she was even given a free shirt to match the staff. Food was delicious and we were left very satisfied, in Palmy for a holiday but was so impressed by the hospitality we received from everyone.

My Family and I were complicated with dietary requirements and Danielle our waitress was very accommodating and careful with our food. She was so lovely and polite. Our only complaint was the few things that weren't available but we understand she couldn't help that. Would reccomend, was a great experience.

We came to a dinner with friends and family and were blown away with the young lady at the door believe her name was Bailey , she was super professional and inviting we had such a great night the servers were lovely , little wait on food but service made up for it! Our waiter had so much patience and made sure that one of us that has a soy allergy had a safe soy free meal. The waiter honestly must have gone and checked with the chef at least 6x for us. We had a lovely meal and delicious drinks!

Beautiful kai, great ambience, so cosy & definitely recommend to book a table. Online booking system is so easy to use. Friendly staff, we were looked after from start to finish by Teagan. Food came out in a timely manner & we even got a free ice cream for the youngin' . Thank you so much. Picture is of the Prawnstar 👌, Salad helped to balance the main dish so well. Food was on point no complaints from my crew. ❤️

On a business trip from Auckland. We had a few beers and wine. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. There interaction with us was tops. Rib-eye steak was excellent. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Went to Lone Star in Palmerston North on the night of Good Friday , 2023 really lovely meals , friendly , helpful staff . Really loved my meal and would come back again.

Our meals and waiter were fantastic. Drinks took forever to arrive and were sent back not once but twice as they were not what we ordered. The chap at the bar who I’m assuming is a manger or even an owner was very defensive and didn’t seem to understand the concept of a mocktail- don’t offer them if you can’t confidently make one correctly (Literally every ingredient BUT the alcohol)? Wouldn’t go back if this guy was on duty!

Really lovely staff but please please don’t put ‘seasonal vegetables’ in nachos. Carrots, pumpkin and kumara don’t belong in nachos!!! And don’t be stingey on the cheese. Couldn’t even find it in my dish.

Pretty tasty meal! Gave me a free cocktail and desert on my birthday. Just a shame orders took a while and some were wrong but other than that good experience

The usual great food from the Lone Star group, although this time an hour wait until it arrived, Dixie chicken is a fab! The cocktails are good too! Easy to get to from Fitzherbert street if staying in Palmerston North for a visit.

We went there recently to celebrate my daughters birthday. The service was very friendly and efficient. The meals were awesome. My steak was cooked to perfection. Three at our table had dietary requirements, which were catered for without any hassle.<br/>We were able to bring a cake & they provided plates & spoons. My daughter got a mini complimentary mini pav dessert & a free drink because it was her birthday too.<br/>Really impressed!

Partner and I went here on a Friday night for his birthday. atmosphere was good and was seated promptly. The server was super efficient if not a little bit too efficient had barely been seated before we were asked what we wanted to order. food came out quickly. we ordered muscles for a starter, chicken salad and lasso of hog for mains they were huge and definitely filling. for dessert we ordered the creme brulee, jack Daniels chocolate cake and a waitress brought out a free dessert for my partners birthday which were meringues all in all a good time and nothing to complain about

I originally gave this restaurant a 4 star rating the first time I came here as had received excellent service and food at the time, but after 2 more trips I am now changing my review.<br/><br/>The last two visits have been disappointing. Service has been slack and definitely gone downhill, staff weren't very attentive nor friendly, and I had to ask for some water after waiting for 5 minutes after sitting down. Drink arrived almost 15 minutes after ordering. <br/>The food was stuffed onto a small plate so had to manoeuvre the steak around, which meant the chips underneath got a bit soggy from the sauce dripping through. Looked like a load of food just dumped onto a plate to be honest. Bit disgusted especially when they charge so much for the food too. <br/>Won't be back here again.

Is there a better Lone Star in the North Island at the moment? Food quality is excellent. Delicious. Plentiful. Fresh. Petone has a good one. Always seems like a destination. I love the one on the waterfront in Gisborne. Great people in Gizzy. But the food is just right in Palmy at the moment. Service is good. Fast polite spot on. Great ambience and there's that familiarity of the mezzanine floor feeling like its about to collapse every time the front door slams closed. Two thumbs up. Well done.

They had the Pork Line special which was pork belly with mashed potatoes greens and jus. We planned for steak but this was a must. Was Devine, absolutely delicious we both also had the Cobb loaf nice fresh and hot. Highly recommended. Great service great staff and great food!

Highly recommended "Garlic bread", "Dixie Chicken" and "Johnny Cash Stash" they're so good. Staff are very friendly. But if you're so so hungry i think you could make an order before you come in otherwise if they're very busy you have to wait for a while LOL but I don't mind to wait if the food are great!<br/><br/>Overall, Lone Star is my fav place to visit on my special day all the time 😊👍🏼

Went there for the second time with family after a long and tiring day. It was a busy night but we were attended to immediately. Sam was our waitress and she was excellent. Food came quickly. Quantity of food was enormous. I had the pork ribs. My mom loves the prawn star dish which comes with rice and we had the chicken nibbles with lonestar loaf as starters . Overall enjoyed eating there. Will definitely come back.

Last night Lonestar welcomed us with warm arms.. Me and my partner ordered, his order came - my order did not was a different dish to what I ordered ?? After she had said what we had ordered back to us right at the beginning which now left us confused..?, waitress (didn't believe me when I questioned the dish) then after double checking to make sure I was wrong and she was right had to apologise and took the dish returned 10-15 minutes later with what you see posted. Another waitress had then approached in the meantime offering a free drink on the house I declined so she said a free dessert. Dinner went on, found a hair on our serving plate. Ordered a cheesecake for desert, found another hair in the cheesecake. Went to pay the bill was charged for the cheesecake so nothing free or compensated ever came from our dining experience which had turned sour. It's all good and well if you can apologise a million times, but all I heard was words no action. Very disappointing experience last night won't be back. P.s the cheesecake was one of the worst .

Dined in before. Was really busy on a Saturday night. The latitude were a bit cramped,but liked the atmosphere there, very bubbly. Although the waiting period for a table and meals was a bit extensive, overall the meal wasn't such a let down...they harmonized the pricings.

wow amazing service from the welcome till the very end. the chicken was great not overcooked like most places, the corn chips and dip were also great,the lovely young lady who waited our table made the whole experience very very enjoyable ....we will be back. recommend to all.

Really love coming here for an outing with friends and family. It is always busy so always good to make reservations. It can get really noisy though. But we love coming here for the food and the service. The meals are lovely and too many lovely dishes to choose from. The staff are friendly and efficient. And they come and check up on to see if everything is ok and you are happy with your meals.

As always with Loan Star, garlic bread &amp; mains were great!! But I was extremely disappointed with my dessert Bannoffie Pie, I did not expect to receive a piece of pie shell with a smear of caramel, a banana cut in half and then smothered in some sort of weak tasting old coffee cream and my friend who had the cheesecake was also very disappointed. Desserts brought the whole meal down. I will not be having dessert at Loan Star again.

Although it's a little pricey, you pretty much get what you pay for. The service is helpful, professional, polite and attentive to your needs. The food comes out quick enough. <br/><br/>I've found that the food is fairly consistent between Lone Star's around NZ. We were celebrating a great first week back at work and although we'd spent nearly $130 between us on entrées, mains, drinks and dessert we didn't feel like it was a complete waste. I would say that if you want a GOOD dessert you may want to look elsewhere. However the mains here are GREAT!

I have dined at Lonestar on several occasions. The food is great, the service is spectacular and I cannot fault them whatsoever. I love the Prawn Star dish soooo much and also the Johnny Cash Stash mmmm....The Bread loaves are delish too. Craig, if he is by the counter at the time you leave even opens the door for you. Star service if you ask me!

On arriving, we were attended to straight away. We were shown to a room reserved for my Mother's 50th Birthday. I found the decor matched the name "Lone star". A few minutes after sitting, a lovely waitress came round and asked us for any drink orders. Then about 10 minutes later she returned to take our Meal orders. While she was half way round the tables another waiter came in to help. The waitress returned to take any more drink orders. Our meals arrived within a reasonable time and came in one after another, which we found very impressive as we got to eat together. The waitress returned to make sure everyone had their meal and that we were satisfied. The waitress brought in a complimentary cocktail, and then the manager came in and told my mother to choose another cocktail (a very nice touch to her surprise birthday). Dessert orders were taken and my mother was given a dessert with a candle in it. The meal's were amazing and all our guests spoke very highly of their experience. The service was like no other, highly impressive!!! The only thing I could suggest is, when there is a big group booking, to have a system in place when it comes to paying e.g. orders by the name of each guest so it saves on time when on leaving. But, we will be back again in the near future for sure!!!!

I have dined here with my partner and family more than once. We once booked for the 7pm sitting and unfortunately we had to wait but when our table was ready (20 or so mins later) we received an apology from staff about the long wait. We always receive great customer service and have staff being attentive to our needs. The decor is very well themed to the name of the restaurant and I do enjoy eating beneath the dim lighting which allows me to feel relaxed. Meals are always tasty and very filling - I always get the Honky Tonk Chicken which is ALWAYS cooked perfectly and has a great amount of flavour. It is good that most main meals have the two meal size options for you to choose from. My highlights would definitely have to be the Lone star loaf and the different combinations of cocktails that Lone star have to offer! I would highly recommend the strawberry slushy or even the chocolate cocktail they offer for dessert. Yum! The prices are a tad much however that still doesn't stop me from wanting to dine there with my family as we treat it as a place for special occasions only anyway.

Dined there a couple of times over the years. Very noisy and long waits as others have said. Last time I went I found a moth in my salad. Was given a free glass of wine and a fresh meal. Kids seem to really like Lone Star and with a definite lack of family restaurants in Palmy it is an ok option.

10/10 + for fantastic, top quality service from warm &amp; friendly staff who were super attentive from the moment we walked in to when we left at the end of the evening. The food was delicious, my husbands meal was huge but that suited him perfectly! I had a smaller size meal with fresh terakihi which was still substantial but so good I didn't leave a scrap on my plate &amp; the Banoffie Pie was to die for!! Awesome atmosphere too.. We'll definitely be back :)

Went with a large group here. Meals were too large, too expensive and mediocre. Very noisy and had to get our own drinks as the wait was to long. Four out of six people that ordered chicken was sent back as they were still pink in the middle -They were not charged which was good. Over all average

I like the meals, however the atmosphere is not so great. My partner took me here for my birthday and after getting seated under the stairs next to the door, which was freezing. We could not even hear each other talk as it was so noisey we left before ordering. I have dined here twice since and enjoyed the food.The tables are quite close together. I would definetly return unless you want something quiet or romantic.

Not recommended at all. We had vege stack. And the potato fritter smells like pre-used oil. The smell gives me intuition that it was either done on the same pan they make beef or something. We told them we are vegetarian. When I told the waitress about it she said no it is not done in other oil. But did not explain the reason of bad smell in it. And taste was not there at all. Too much of cheap tomato sauce spread all over the plate. Bad experience. Not recommended.

This is the better restaurant of the chain. Service was nice and the food came out in good timing. The Milky Bar Kid dessert is my favourite! I don't like the Lone Star restaurants in Auckland as the staff radiate an arrogant attitude. Although it does have the feeling of a chain restaurant, I like knowing the food is reliable.

I can honestly say that I have been 4 times and to date, I have never had a good meal. Very disappointed considering it's good reputation. I have ruled this restaurant out, work parties are what takes me there. Overcooked meals / long waits / desert over 45 mins. The only positive thing is that they do give free meals when they make the mistake.

This has to be the most excellent Restaurant I have ever come accross in Palmerston North.<br/>The food is just exquisite for this Chef.I could find nothing about the service or food to complain of.<br/>I highly recommend this venue for any type of gathering.<br/>Truely amazing you are my Favourite Establishment.

Wonderful huge meals. 2/4 eat Gluten Free only and although the menu has only one choice - staff are knowledgeable and they have an excellent list of allergens in each dish and alternatives - just ask. Highly recommend.
