Review Punjab Palace - Papakura

Brenda Jackson
Entering Punjab Palace the service was amazing friendly & welcoming, our meal was so yummy from the poppadoms with mango chutney 😋 to the mains & spicy naan 😋 but OMG you have to try the plunger tea, I’m not saying anything more other than it’s the best tea Iv ever drunk. I had no idea I was being watched by the owner when I was opening the plunger trying to figure out what the aroma was, I had asked the waitress what it was and she said only the owner knows, even she didn’t know, so I asked please for a little container to take away. The owner came to me and said he could see how much I loved the tea and gave me a small container. How honoured was I to be gifted with such delights to the senses! He let us know over 20yrs he’s been there tucked away in the corner of Papakura across the road from Count Down. His Palace deserves your patronage. Me & hubby highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🙏

I am so Impressed and happy once again. This time an absolute pleasure as the staff are so kind and welcoming. They made my Autistic son so happy, He got his own menu and treated just like a grown up customer. My son was so impressed. Thank you sir, your service made a little boys week. food is always amazing, Never bad. The only Indian food place we eat!

The food was good, the waitress who served us was also very helpful and kind.

Went here a few months ago and have been meaning to review. I had the absolute A+ best experience here. Staff were friendly and professional. They were up front about their high heat levels in their spices (I regularly order hot and am disappointed but Punjab Palace was definitely spicy for me at hot). The price is also incredibly reasonable for the high quality products they make. Outclassing a number of more expensive Indian restaurants I visit. If you're in the area and you like spicy food then this is a must visit.

Food is absolutely delicious (especially the butter chicken), and the staff are very friendly. Every visit is enjoyable, and I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting quality Indian food 👌

Lovely staff and meals here. A great local!
Excellent service. Delicious food. Only mark down would be the takeaway interrupts the restaurant feel. But can't be helped with the setting.

Went here with Curry Club. 8 of us ate. Good food. Good service. Was constantly busy. I always like to gauge a restaurant on how they perform when busy. You can tell a lot. The staff were friendly and all of our meals came out at the same time. I had the Chicken Dopiaza - Hot. Would recommend.
I would definitely go back. Prices are good. Wednesday specials.

Absolutely love this place! Has the best service and is hands down delish! Always, always come here. The chicken Tikka is the best, so defiantly try that!

Delicious curries and naan, my personal favourite is the tikka sawadee, it was full of flavour, had plenty of meat and their naan is to die for.

We haven't been here for ages because the quality of meat used in the dishes always seems to be so poor. We came back with a group of friends and it was ok. My husband had tandoori chicken for an entree, it was weird and didn't have a very nice flavour. I ordered a paneer masala to avoid eating plus I prefer vegetarian currys anyway. It had a pleasant flavour but probably was a bit boring and westernised for my liking. The naan bread was nice. My husband said the meat in his main was still not that nice ( very fatty). I think they should pick up their game here as their are so many Indian restraunts in Papakura and the others are much better.

We have ordered dal makhni and it was too sweet to eat. Everything was below average and we left few food items as it is. My friends have gone to another restaurant after this place as they did not eat anything there. We complaint about food to the waiter and he replied to us that this is how it is and it’s good, which was really rude. Highly disappointed.

Ordered tandoori chicken few minutes ago. I was excited to try it but when I tasted it i was very disappointed. It does not even look like a tandoori chicken and forget about the taste. They served it with cabbage and sweet curd. I have never seen any restaurant or takeaway serving curd with tandoori chicken. It does not even make any sence. Moreover the chicken seemed to be stale.

Very disappointed and would not refer any one to visit this place.

Punjab Palace is our local go to for takeaways, it has everything we love! We have also dined in on occasion, however find it too dimly lit and atmosphere a bit downing. The food did arrive in ample time, but we had to pay for takeaway containers which seemed a bit extreme when I couldn't finish mine. My absolute highlight of Punjab Palace is the Kashmiri Naan, stuffed with sweetened coconut. My go to is the Chicken Madras, medium. Perfect creamy sauce and well cooked Chicken. Their large range of curries is brilliant, including the addition of Indo-Chinese such as Chilli Chicken. Price point sits higher than the other Indian takeaways in South Auckland, but luckily the Naan keeps me coming back!
Food: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5
Price: 3.5/5

Service is very average the food is only average one thing i can not stand is restaurants that won't clear a table just makes it so unpleasant anc not wanting to stay.

Tried these guys on the strength of a reference and they did not disappoint. Delivery was on time and food delicious. Just the right level of 'spicy' in the dishes & naan bread was excellent.

Worst tasteless food
Veg korma
And
Butter paneer
(Colour n saucy tasteless)
Ordered garlic n cheese naan
The thinnest ever
Rip off
Never going again
Love salt n pepper (awesome food @ great price)

the staff is all ways very lovely. the food is good, but not the best Indian place. the restaurant is all ways empty! so it kinda of kills the dinning mode as its lonely in thier. the food is little too expensive comparing to other great Indian stores. but if your craving for Indian food in hurry! Punjab Palace will do.

See my previous comment
Was getting a takeaway and ordered on the phone. The lady who pick up the phone always ask the same question so many times. I have told her 7 times no salt and she said what do you mean no salt...I know English isn't my first language but I have spelled it for her, No Salt..S-A-L-T and she still asked another 5 times after that. Does she listen??? Really annoy and won't buy it anymore. Chicken was a bit black burned.

Horrible, I ordered takeaway tikka chicken masala and it was very watery it was very very sweet compared to other tikka masalas. It tasted exactly like butter chicken, the chicken was dry and the onions weren't cut properly big chunks of onion. It was my first time so I'm not sure if this was a one off but it was bad I didn't end up eating it cause I don't like watery food. BUT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND PUKEKOHE CURRY LEAF they are perfect!

My favourite place to take my father for dinner every week, service is pretty good, they always welcome us with a smile, my father is very elderly and I appreciate their patience and understanding when they serve us.
Food is quite tasty, especially when they get their spice on point in terms of Indian hot. We mostly order the vindaloo and the chicken tikka. We don't have to wait long for our food to come out either . Love this place, I've started to take my friends here as well. Good service will always keep us coming back.

Won't be visiting ever. Malai kofta was a joke as the stuffing was very plain. I tried this dish elsewhere, but sorry to say it did not live up to its name.
Marina Harding
Pretty good butter chicken. Deffinately my preferred choice of butter chicken in Papakura. Would love to eat in one time and have a proper Indian cuisine experience.

Just hopped to a wonderful quiet place today at punjab palace with two of my friends...as soon as we entered menu ..papadum was offered
The boy and a girl waiter were extremely helpful
The food was authentic and full of taste naan was too good. .only thing vindaloo had very less capsicum.but was hot new came to table ASAP. ..
Lovely will come back soon
Rami.albatniji
Great beef vindaloo hits the spot every time and it's not watered down either!!

Garlic naan is a hit and miss unfortunately, butter chicken is not too sweet and the kadai is yum!

This is the real deal. The food is ideal, the service perfect. My wife and I have come here a few times, the last occasion we were treated to Punjabi dance and music all night, it was all so authentic I felt like I disappeared to India for a few hours.

I enjoy the speedy service and the great tasting butter chicken. Great service with a smile. Cant beat Shamania from Manukau Mall but my 2nd best butter chicken so far. Masala is rubbish. All the glitter but the food is bland.
David Parussini
Wow - pretty average and uninspiring. Ate early tonight (Friday evening), had the butter chicken, beef korma, garlic naan and chicken tikka entree shared between myself and two children. Service was friendly but food came out disconcertainly very quickly.
Want to support local business, however won't be able to bring myself back here I'm afraid.

After walking out of Masala for lack of service, this was our closest option. We were greeted nicely, service was fast, food was delicious and the staff were friendly. May not have the showiness of Masala but I prefer to be served. Would definitely go there again.

First time to Punjab Palace. We were greeted at the door and sat at the front (little did we know we had the best seats to view what was ahead). We chose the buffet which was offered to us immediately. No waiting. The first course was presented and was delicious. We were asked if we were ready for the next course. Then we were entertained by an amazing dance troup of young men who combined traditional and bolliwood dancing in costume. Wow, can they dance. There was a drummer too. All the staff including the entertainers were smiling. This is such a happy place or should I say palace. After good portions of entrees, our mains arrived, piping hot and plenty of it too.
Great staff, great food and great entertainment. The restaurant was full. I can see why.
Thanks for a great evening.

Sue and Mark

This was our experience of eating here, although our fellow diners have been here a few times. We opted for the set menu. The entrees arrived after a short wait, the mains followed a short time after. The portion size was good for five diners, there was not much left over. The staff were friendly even for a busy evening. Although, lost out for not asking if we wanted any additional yummy Mango Lassi's !!!

It was a culture evening with lots of Indian dancing and drum playing, which added to a very enjoyable evening. Some of the fellow dancing bravely got up and joined in too.

Well worth a visit, especially on a culture evening :-)

After walking out of Masala, Punjab Pal seated us right away. Service was fantastic. Food was fast, which concerned me. But it was fresh, hot & the naan was so yum! I hve ordered frm Punjab since b4 they changed their name. Will just stick with thm instead. Thank u for a lovely family dinner and smiling faces :)

After buying takeaway meals from this restaurant on a number of occasions, we finally had a dine in meal.

The meal was delicious as usual, but the service was absolutely appalling. It was almost like they didn't want us to dine in.

Very unfriendly staff. It took them ages to clear the dirty plates from our table and after waiting for ages, we had to go up to the counter ourselves to get some more drinks and order deserts.

Will probably still buy takeaways from this restaurant, but we will never dine in there again.

We were the regular customer since many year. The food was always good. But lately they increased the prices very high. Only for the quality food, once we used to afford going there.

Unfortunately... now the food quality has gone down tremendously. Of course people / staff were never friendly but now even they are getting rude.

It's no point wasting money for unfriendly environment, extra proud staff and not so good quality food.
Steph
Not bad...curry a little on the oily side which you notice if you order as takeaway by the time we get home (less than 3 minutes away) the sauce has already started to seperate but nothing a good stir with garlic naan won't fix, also cuts of chicken can be a bit grisly, but always speedy service and always give us a good splattering of extra garlic on our naan when we ask :)

Have been eating at this Indian restaurant for many years before they re-named it. The service is always excellent, the staff very friendly and the food is always spot on! I love the palek paneer and malai kofta. It is probably the best Indian food in Papakura.
Scott Faulkner
Great service...probably the best in Papakura. A smiling face goes along way! Flavour wise, great, although meat is on the tough side and Curry's tend to be on the oily side. Good heat...if I want extra hot, they make it to my liking and are bang on.
Tony
Have been eating At the pubjab palace for a period of time and the food is very consistant in flavour and quantity, excellent service and very friendly.

Please come back to Ponsonby!! The most consistent indian I have had and great people running the place.

Quite expensive but very yummy.
I am not very adventurous with food, but we ordered from there on Sunday night and it was Sooooooooooooooo yummy!
We ordered again from them on Wednesday night but it was not as good as Sundays meal. Still, very pleasant on the whole!
Alysha Bryan
I got taken to the restaurant for Valentines day and within 50mins we only just received our drinks. In 1 and half hours we left as we still hadn't got our entrees. We were the fourth couple to leave without having eaten.
When we approached the counter before leaving to say something they couldn't even find what we had ordered and when we told them we just wanted to leave, all they said was just go... no apology or anything.

Talk about a waste of time and I won't bother going back again.

Good food, service and price. Does cater for weddings and food still holds up. All round decent restaurant

popped in for a takeaway lunch but ending up dining in as i was hoping to stop in at Sangam Indian Cuisine but they aren't open on Fridays......so i'm glad Punjab Palace was. what a beautiful butter chicken. so yummy & it had a hint of sweetness. the after taste is a sweet tangy tomato flavor. we also order the naan bread with garlic. the bread was fresh, soft & had a nice crisp to it, perfect for scooping up the rice & butter sauce. friendly, accommodating staff. i certainly will be back here again. being a Friday it was also cheaper to dine in so well worth the $$money$$ :)
Sara
Have not dined in here, but they are on our speedial for takeaways! Have tried butter chicken at several Indian restaurants, but nothing beats that from Punjab Palace. Can't comment on other dishes as that's all we ever have! Staff lovely too.
Sally
Love this place. have been going for years, dine in atmosphere is a little bland but pop in and take it home, crack open a bottle of wine and you are in heaven.
Steve
Went there recently with group of 12, was recommended to us as we are from out of town. The service was fine but the food was the worst I have come across, the lamb rogan josh was basically lamb in a butter sauce, as was the chicken tikka masala, couldn't tell the difference between the real butter chicken and these two dishes! The vegetarian dishes such as the malai kofta, shahi paneer etc. also seemed to be cooked in a similar sauce. Also we asked for water which we got but no water glasses so had to reuse our beer, wine glasses etc. Overall very disappointing.
Jim
Its ok, not great.
