Review Mrs Ferg Gelateria - Queenstown

Love the taste of the double espresso and dark coffee ice cream. Enjoy! (2023-12)

Compared to another gelato place in town, Mrs Ferg’s gelato has a great selection of handmade gelato I personally think this place has better than any other. Very refreshing and pure flavours. 🍧 we really enjoyed!
Benedict Sommer
Very pleasing experience. Had the pistachio and rum & raisin flavours. Nice big servings for a delicious treat. Service was quick and friendly. The place looked well cared for and clean. Would love to have one of these everyday but I'd be dead! You could probably just spend a day moving between the 4 Ferg hangouts next to one another here. Great stuff!

Oh.My.God. This is the best gelato I have ever eaten in my life. No joke, this is life-changing. You MUST try their gelato out! The must get flavours are pistachio and hazelnut. I have never tasted any gelato that was so nutty and fragrant! You absolutely must try it out!
Alex Tolmie
Loved their gelato. Great service and creamy delicious flavours. NZ gelato and ice cream is miles above Australia.

It's just normal. Not bad but not amazing. The sorbet taste better than the gelato. The gelato is not icy but it's not creamy either. Standard prices. Jul 2023: 1 scoop $7.9, 2 scoops $8.9, 3 scoops $9.9
Sheng Jie
Delicious, we tried hazelnut + hokey pokey for $8.90. Gelato was creamy and full of flavors, really worth it.

Vegan flavours tend to be a hit or miss, and every flavour was an absolute HIT! I got three very generous scoops for only $9!! Honestly I regret not going sooner in my trip to QT, but I will absolutely be coming back multiple times during my next trip!! 🤩

If you still have room after your visit in Ferg Burger next door, definitely do make a visit to Mrs Ferg. Soooo many different flavours of ice cream.🤩 All of them were very tasty, milky and creamy. I had the hazelnut flavour, it was so rich and the hazelnuts were crunchy. They also do shakes, smoothies and juices. Overall, reasonably priced.

Very nice gelato! I can highly recommend getting the black Forrest! I would also say that i would recommend getting 2 or 3 Scoops as the first scoop is basically 80% of the price. I see this more often in new Zealand and it really baffles me as back home the first scoop is a lot cheaper and every scoop above that adds around the same to the price as the first scoop.

Where to start. I tried a bunch of flavors ... you can’t really go wrong. Mango, raspberry cheesecake, white chocolate macadamia nut, white chocolate, and espresso were so decadent! This place definitely satisfied my sweet tooth. The service was great and the prices were reasonable. The only downside is the lack of seating.

These days we often skip expensive desserts at a restaurant, in favour of a decent gelato or ice cream, if there is one nearby. Such is the case tonight, as we head into Mrs Ferg for another treat (we’d already sampled their wares at their Beach Road shop earlier this week). We strike a quiet patch, which is rare for any of the Ferg operations from what we have witnessed this past week. It allows us time to chat with the staff, who are really friendly and happy to offer up the tasting spoons of new flavours. I also strike up a conversation with the part Italian, part Argentinian ice cream maker, which is quite fascinating as we discuss volumes over the summer months - an astounding amount of ice cream manufacturing!! Try the Dulce de Leche Caramel & Chocolate, it really is great. I end up going for the Black Forest and Mint Chocolate, and they are both divine. Well recommended for lots of great flavours.
William Lin
So many choices and they all look very tasty. We didn't bother lining up for Fergburgers with the kids and came here instead. No queues and the kids were extremely happy with the alternative option. Reasonably priced also and excellent service. Just ask if you want to try a flavour
Musin Yohan
Superb ice cream in town! They have many sort of varieties you can choose. I love the salt caramel one, it relieves the thirst and it's not heavy for my standard. Not as busy as it's sibling the burger next door, so you can grab whenever you want without having to queue...
Wesley Tilbury
Lovely ice cream, the ‘Black Forest’ and ‘White Chocolate and Macadamia’ was delightful - will be back again before the end of our time in QT
Indie Singh
Had nice scoop of peanut chocolate. Very nice and great taste.

You have to try all the Ferg Restraunts they are absolutely amazing. The wait is totally worth it!! The icecream and gelato here is absolutely amazing!! This place is definitely recognisable when you see the long queues. It is a must try if you are visiting Queenstown!

I came to Mrs Ferg for the gelato after dinner for dessert even though I was already full. I’ve been to Mrs Ferg once (tried the grapefruit sorbet) and Patagonia numerous times but decided to come here to try the different flavours. <br/><br/>I requested to try peanut butter and banana, salted caramel, caramelised white chocolate and macadamia and the caramelised sesame seed. The flavour that stood out the most was salted caramel and caramelised white chocolate. At the end, I got the white choc and macadamia and it was so heavenly. Huge chunks of white chocolate and pieces of nuts scattered throughout the ice cream to add a different texture and flavour to it. I highly recommend trying this. My brother got the pistachio gelato and it tasted like the real deal too! My parents shared a roasted hazelnut ice cream, tasted a bit like Nutella. <br/><br/>The cone did lack a crunch that patagonia has though. I prefer the cone from Patagonia but ice cream from Mrs Ferg!
冯欣然
Taste good, but kiwi flavor is not
Birdman
Anything with the Ferg name on it is fantastic. Thought the ice cream was excellent but would have liked a few more flavours. Gelato Messina in Melbourne is still the benchmark for me
The Brunch Specialist
Located near the infamous Fergburger, Mrs Ferg will satisfy that sweet craving.<br/><br/>Mrs Ferg has an extensive range of gelato and sorbet flavours on offer. I opted for the caramelised white chocolate & macadamia and raspberry cheesecake gelato which were both melt in your mouth delicious.<br/><br/> I highly enjoyed visiting Mrs Ferg and I recommend that you check it out. I rate it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5.

You have to go if you’re in Queenstown. It’s infamous nature makes it a must do spot for foodies.<br/>Burgers next door that often has lines down the street. And mrs fergs has an ice cream parlour with coffee machine and the most epic bakery ever with the most amazing baked goods, pies and treats (see pics)
Yasmin Kharimi
Probably the best gelato I have ever had! I tried one of their shakes too and you can mix two gelato flavours to make it and its delicious - the staff are helpful and try help you with mixing the flavours too - bonus side is there isnt a line at this place :)
Stephanie D'souza De Mello
The perfect spot for all your sweet tooth cravings ♥️ They have a decadent variety of pasteries and desserts but the savoury pies were my all time favourite♥️ And finish it off with a scoop or two of gelato 🤣 Tried a bunch of flavours but the Tiramisu and Chocolate Brownie were simply amazing !!
J Ambrosio
We passed by Mrs Ferg because we didn’t want to wait in line for the burgers. I know, so different gelato vs burgers. Haha! No regrets though. You could taste the quality of their gelato. Unique flavour, friendly staff, generous servings.
Tuna
Really nice gelato!! tried a few flavours and decided on the silver award raspberry cheesecake flavour. nice and chilly on a winter day hahahha
Lucy
Nice gelato store located on the main street of city. <br/><br/>Tried the salted caramel gelato, super rich and creamy. Delicious but can be a bit too sweet/rich for some.<br/><br/>Food: 7.5/10<br/>Service: 8/10<br/>Location: 9/10<br/>Ambience: 9/10<br/>Price $8 per person

Craving For Dessert in Queenstown ?<br/>Mrs Ferg is the best answer !<br/>It provides lot of flavours varieties.<br/>Super love their Baileys.<br/>You will get discount on Ferg Burger Bill to buy Mrs Ferg

Just beside Fergburger, this ice cream site is famous too. Tried in total six flavors and found their gelato better than sorbet. Among those, I love the wild strawberry most. The blueberry yoghurt is great as well.
Kelly
Needed a sweet fix and very pleased with the vast options available.<br/><br/>Fairly busy, staff are attentive and you can definitely sample flavours. There was a Vietnamese inspired flavour that was very refreshing, I will be back for that!<br/><br/>Ended up settling for the lemon meringue and banana pie flavour, both really resembled and tasted like the name. Considering I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, and having sampled gelato from Giapo (Which is so sickly sweet in my opinion) the gelato options here are not too sweet and really delicious. <br/><br/>Highly recommend for your sweet fix!
SaladChild
The huge pretzel was soooo yummy! Made a good lunch for 3 people!!!! <br/>Chocolate and almond croissant also gorgeous 😍 <br/>Overall huge variety in the shop and smells amazing! <br/>Ice cream was also very nice! Large range of flavours and lots of dairy free options!
Asha
What an amazing find. So many choices ... Beautiful pastries and pies ! Thumbs up! My fav is the almond choc croissant and pork sausage roll
Sweet And Sour Fork
With the intention to come back the next day, we decided to just share 2 scoops ($6.9NZD) for the time being. Given that Black Forest is my most favourite cake ever, I couldn’t pass up having it in gelato form. The combination of dark chocolate and tangy cherry is a winner, and there were chunks of chocolate biscuit folded through for texture. It was good, but unfortunately I wasn’t as blown away as I had hoped to be. In fact, I was a bigger fan of the Roasted Hazelnut, which had a rich, pure flavour that I could never get sick of.
BAbyWin
Decided to try the ice cream because they are part of the Fergburger. When I went into the store I was dazzled with the flavours they had. I asked to try a few of their award winning ice cream and decided to go for the pineapple sorbet. They also have a glass kitchen where you can see things are made. I had to say they are really smart to open up a bakery and an ice cream place next to their famous burger.
Eunifoodie
Absolutely love the staff here! I was super indecisive but they were very accommodating and allowed me to try a bunch of flavours. I got two scoops in the end - white choc & macadamia, and pistachio- for $6 which is super affordable compared to other gelato places.
Vina
Mrs ferg provides many options of gelatos. I tried the espresso and the roasted hazelnut. My fave is roasted hazelnut. The service was nice.
Ozzy Kunnu
The most nicest and promising part of the Mrs Ferg (other than being a part of the Mr Ferg Burgers ) is that they serve the most yummiest brownies we have had on South Island. The ice creams were yum<br/><br/>AND<br/><br/>The biggest dissapointment was the so called 'thick Italian hot chocolate' which, after enquiring twice that it would be gooey and thick enough to.have it with spoon, turned out to be runny and watery.<br/><br/>Nevertheless, worth a visit.
Mara Melissa Villarete
I had different scoops of gelato.. the Salted Caramel and White Chocolate with Macademia. It was divine! The long queue was worth it. A must try in Queenstown
Streaky Eats
This place serves mainly gelato and sorbet, located right next to Fergbaker, which is next to Fergburger, a deadly trio. A second Mrs Ferg outlet can also be found near the wharf area.<br/><br/>They have a wide variety of flavours as you would expect from a gelato/ice cream shop. I had the roasted hazelnut flavour and it never failed. You can also try one of their item which is gelato sandwiched between a halved donut.

They offer a wide range of flavours. The service was fast and staff was friendly. We tried the Salted Caramel, Roasted Hazelnut, Cookies & Cream and Chocolate and they were sweet and good dessert after dinner. Although I have to admit, the ice cream we tried were not true to its flavour but still a nice treat.
Kiwi FIFO Chef
Made it the trifecta today with Ferg Baker for lunch and Mrs Ferg Beach St. for post dinner dessert. <br/>It’s a well presented shop, with tons of treats and heaps of options. Staff were pretty friendly, and the flavours were all very tasty. I strayed away from my usual flavours (at least one of them), and opted for a cone of blueberry yoghurt (sublime!), and chocolate gelato (intense chocolate but not too bitter). Yeah, will most like pay them another visit before we leave town!

5/5 Taste<br/>4.5/5 Display <br/>4.5/5 Quantity <br/>4.5/5 Customer Service <br/><br/>Best Ice creams in Queenstown! <br/><br/>Their range of flavours are so much better than Auckland. They had all sorts different flavours with pretty colours I was able to try at least 3 flavours I have never seen before such as grapefruit.<br/>
The Poor Foodie
Winter and icecream - perfect match!<br/>Somehow I ordered lychee, lime and Vietnamese mint (suddenly want to come out of comfort zone and give it a go) and.... nah not my thing. Barely tasted the lychee but strong lime and mint flavour. But the cone doesn’t need an extra charge and from my point of view, it’s better than the Patagonia one. <br/>Staff are all really nice

Dinner finished and walking the streets of Queenstown we felt like a sweet treat, enter Mrs Ferg. We have done both the other Ferg's places now so seemed appropriate to round off the trip.<br/><br/>Got a small cup of vanilla ice cream, simple flavour after the very tasteful dinner we had. Ice cream was good and what we expected, it went down a treat.<br/><br/>Plenty more flavours to chose from, something for everyone.<br/><br/>Food: 80% (ice cream)<br/>Ambience: 70%<br/>Service: 75%<br/>Coffee: N/A

While you visit Ferg burger and Ferg bakery, I used to visit here as well. Need some sweet treat after all the savoury food. My fav flavour are their rhum raisin and double espresso dark chocolate.. really strong rhum flavour and the espresso
Sameera Ganesh
The best ice cream ever. We had the award winning Macademia and white chocolate ice cream. It was amazing. They had really nice sorbets too.
Rhea Villacampa
<br/>Very friendly staff. They made me a smoothie but removed some of the main ingredients in it which I was allergic too. My partner got the salted caramel buttered rum. He finished it in less than a minute. The place is warm and looks clean. Love the interior design.
Nathan Piahana
Had a Goji & Strawberry Smoothie which wasn’t that nice and being it was the only time we went it’s hard to say for certain without trying more flavours.
Olya
Very friendly staff, quick service! You feel welcomed like at home! <br/>If you are in Queenstown I really recommend to visit that place! <br/>Location is amazing right in town center :)

Delicious gelato and great flavours. Came here a couple of times and I loved their sorbet flavours. I tried a pink grapefruit and also a lychee, mango and Viet mint. I would highly recommend them both. My partner also tried their milkshakes and also thoroughly enjoyed them!

🍦🍦🍦👍👍👍<br/>Mrs Ferg has won a few awards under The New Zealand Ice Cream Awards. We've tried their Silver Award Roasted Hazelnut and it's top notch - creamy, smooth with actual chunks of hazelnuts.<br/><br/>Yummy! Will be back!
Danelle Lim Yun
Really delicious gelatos!!! Some of the more exotic flavours might be a bit of an acquired taste for some. I really loved the double espresso with dark choc and the pistachio
Melissa Kirsten Heng
The gelato was really yummy!! I had the Baileys one and was really happy it. Depending on the time of day, it can be busy, so be prepared to wait. The only downside was that the staff seemed a bit unfriendly but other than that it was great!
Sopha Peter Belmonte
Ice cream was awesome! I had the pistachio and mint ice cream. Instead of staying there I took my dessert to watch the sunset. Definitely a good place to get your dessert fix.
Crackerjacker
They have a large range of gelatos and sorbet and I couldn't choose because I tested a few and they all tasted amazing. There was an orange and coffeeish one I think and that was nice. I would definitely go back and try the lot if I could
Janice Bautista
Nothing great. I tried their ice cream sandwich and it was an unnecessary dish. The gelato I ordered was the espresso with dark chocolate and it was very good. It was sandwiched between a donut bun - I believe the same donut used for Boston creme - and they give you this chocolate sauce to drizzle over the entire thing. The bread was too tough and chewy for me. The chocolate sauce was very good and complemented the espresso gelato really well. Next time I'll just stick to the gelato.
ShoRt
Lots of flavours to choose from with some being quite unique and award winning. They have a small but beautiful shop, makes me feel like going in for a browse every time I pass by. <br/>Service could be slightly friendlier but it's not bad. <br/><br/>Gelato was smooth and not too sweet. I'm satisfied with my lychee, mango, Vietnamese mint .... gelato (can't remember the full flavours) :)
Michelle Chua
Was told that Fergs is somewhere you should go when u come down to Queenstown. And i would recommend the same thing. <br/>There's a lot of choice for their gelatos and I just wish I could try them all. My favourite would be the salted caramel :)
Suzze Nguyen
This is the perfect treat after a hike! I had the hazelnut icecream and pistachio icecream. TBH I wasn't a fan of the hazelnut icecream, it had this rum after taste to it. On the other hand, the pistachio icecream was amazing!!!! It was so creamy and fragrant, I just kept coming back for more. My friend had the lychee lime mango mint sorbet and the blushing grapefruit ...I'm not a big fan of sorbets but both the flavours were so fresh and delicious! Definitely worth a try if you're ever in Queenstown. And it's only $6.90 for 2 scoops
Kate McCallum
Ice cream was delicious! Probably wouldn't bother with the dessert menu again. Had the apple crumble and friend had profiteroles. Neither were that great but still enjoyable.
Brian With The Y
After trying the burger and bakery, me and my group of friends tried out this place. The customers service was so awesome and sorry for putting it up with my group trying out all of the samples because all the flavours looks so good. In the end we had the 3flavour scoops which was The Tiramisu, Pistachio and Vanilla Afforgato with Hazelnut & orange biscotti. Was really satisfied !

Delicious Gelato ice cream. Very nice and creamy however I asked for these to be takeaway and when I got back to the hotel which was a five minute drive they had melted over the edge. The girl knew that I was needing to drive with these so would have been better if she used the bigger size cup. This is the only reason why I have not rated a 5.
A Smit
Good Gelati, served quickly. They have a wide variety of flavors, however the gelati is not as smooth as some of the stores back home. Nearly almost as perfect but just the tiniest bit of graininess. They do great milkshakes, still love coming back here every time we're in Queenstown.
Drishti Khandelwal
Located right next to Ferg burger this is yet another bustling place in Queenstown. <br/>Really amazing ice creams , I tried the salted caramel ice cream , white chocolate ice cream and chocolate cream. All three are amazing and a must try . Even the sorbets are a must have !
Colonel Jude Mayne
Located in the centre of Queenstown with the rest of the Fergs next door.<br/><br/>Gelato, our favourite Ice cream drew us into the place.<br/><br/>Had an array of flavours so we had to taste before we ordered. <br/><br/>Salted caramel, Pecan nuts, Bailey's, Lemon ice, Mango.<br/><br/>We settled for Bailey: smooth, full on the flavour side and pampered the palate.<br/><br/>Pecan was nice with a crunch of the tiny winy pieces.Geeta Mayne @geeta mageeta<br/><br/>Salted Caramel did win hands down on the above two
Redsfanatic
Been here for the beef cheek pie, pork apple pie.excellent fillings. So tender the beef. Order a coffee, however its not the best coffee. But excellent pastry

Heaven!! Gelato is delish, particularly the hazelnut one!! Also... you MUST get a real belguim hot chocolate - I've never had one so good like this before, none compares (it is sweet but that is how I like em). I Hve also had it with the added spice which is also very good!! Absolutely to die for! It is worth splurging the extra money on some delish desserts... u don't do it everyday. I am so glad we don't have one of these stores in Dunedin because if we did, I'd be four times the size I am now.
Matt
We came here a few times for a little treat when wondering down the street.  The sorbet and ice-cream are excellent!  Would definitely recommend the chocolate sorbet!
Tanuj
They have some of the best deserts and gelato in Queenstown! I happened to go there twice. Amazing bakery!you can head here while waiting in the que for feegburgee. Must try!
GlutenFreeFoodie
Very cool place, really nicely presented. Good staff. I enjoyed an iced gelato mocha which was amazing! Loved the chocolate chunks throughout...not just an average iced mocha!
BukanOtotTapiLemak
Were waiting for our burger and fries from fergburger, so we purposely stop by this gelateria 2 doors down (next to ferg bakery). Being a tourist, hockey pockey is a must try (honeycomb flavour) and we also ordered hazelnut caramel which was another great flavour.
Ezzz
FCKING BEST GELATO EVER!!! Dayum !! I was craving ice cream one night and popped in here while waiting for ferg burgers next door. Turned out it's super nice and I went back 2 more times in the following day (stayed in Queenstown for 4 days). The gelato was creamy and smooth, (tried: choco brownie, cheesecake, mango yoghurt, raspberry yoghurt, espresso) sorbet was real nice (lychee mango..) SO KEEN TO GO BACK!! Ahahha they should open one in Auckland tbh! The bake house was nice too, had the white choco baked cheesecake, smooth af ;) and not too sweet'!! The price is really good too, 6.90 for 2 scoops of ice cream, super worth. Better than movnpick etc I reckon. Definitely try it out while ur in Queenstown !!!
Siobhan
A variety of interesting flavours on offer such as pavlova, apple pie, and wild strawberry. Very creamy and reasonably priced. Happy to tick this off our foodie bucket list here in Queenstown.
Mansi Trivedi
How can i forget that perfect chocolate gelato . They were so yumm !! I had white chocolate , chocolate , boysenberry , strawberry and cookie brownie . There tagline is ' Ferg loves you' . Indeed Ferg indeed !
Annette Wong
Gelato did not dissapoint <br/>An upsetting vast amount of flavours to choose from (everything looked so good)<br/>We indulged in mint choc and coconut chocolate. Such a treat. Planning to try one icecream a day im in queenstown because #yolo
Rose
I love this place best gelato!! The staff is also amazing and its open till late hours. I would definitely go again / make sure to visit this place when your in Queenstown
Disha
The best Flat white in New Zealand for sure. I liked this way more than Fergburger. I also tried their chocolate Danish and slice of pizza. This bakery is top notch quality and everything is super fresh no matter when you go. The staff is helpful in understanding your dietary requirements which I realised as my mother couldn't have egg so this waitress helped her in choosing what my mom and was looking for. Super awesome place- will definitely go back for the gelato n coffee!
Harsh Saini
Ferg's signature Belgium Hot Chocolate; Must have if you are in Queenstown. The taste, consistency and quantity is perfect. The best way is to have in a take away cup and enjoy at the beach side. It's definitely a great choice for chocolate addict like me.
Michelle Hwang
The most fantastic pie with less cheese and soft beef stake. Time was too short to try more items there. Expect to discover more yummy items 2 months later.
Charlee Brown
Got an iced coffee w a scoop of salted caramel gelato to go while waiting in line for a ferg burger. Delicious. <br/><br/>Wish we had more time to eat more gelato :(
Abdullah Hamad
You can try the most delicious Gelato in the world in Mrs Ferg and only here.<br/><br/>I recommend 'Manuka Honey' and 'Hoky Boky'. Those two are the most popular im Qweenstown.<br/>
Ilovetoomnom
My friends and I decided to try Mrs Ferg after having tried the rest of the Ferg stores. I ordered the Manuka Honey gelato as it was something that I had not seen before. As a fan of Manuka honey, I found this gelato to be quite good as the flavour wasn't too strong and overpowering. It was nice and light and didn't feel heavy at all. The only downside to this place was the price of it-one scoop was $5.50 for either a waffle cone or cup.
The Vegetarian Friend
Brilliant place in Queenstown!!!<br/>The hot chocolate is a must try and you won't be able to stop with just one.<br/>Tried the ginger bread gelato!!!<br/>Perfect texture and perfect presentation!!!<br/>
Johnathon Atchley
Not bad ice cream. Very flavourful, but it's the worst of the three Ferg restaurants here. I'd still recommend giving it a try at least once.
Ivan Koay
Gelato at the adventure capital... from the Ferg empire.....<br/><br/>Walked into this place as an alternative considering the queue for a fergburger was 4 shop fronts long and therefore decided to give it a miss and try some ice cream instead<br/><br/>Tried the salted caramel gelato and a sorbet which were both pretty average fair with no real outstanding features to stand out from the rest.<br/><br/>Not one to return to in a hurry with other outlets also available
Adeline
Delicious gelato so many flavours to choose from- got the gingernut flavour and it had chunks of gingernut cookie in it which was delicious!.
Alysha Bower
This is some of the best gelato I have tried, the shop looks lovely and inviting. They have so many flavours and allow you to try them too. Only down side is the girls don't really look like they want to be there and would rather talk between themselves than talk to the customers. Would come back for the gelato!
Kiss And Eat Up
Wicked hot chocolate , a must try . Be sure to order a chocolate ganache and chilli bomb as it's worth the extra money . They also do a great chocolate brownie thickshake for all the chocolate lovers . Perfect night cap on a cold winters night in Queenstown. Probably wouldn't recommend ordering a pie late at night though here as they sit in the ovens all day as we discovered the next day with very upset stomachs.
May
Love love love their pistachio and rum&raisin gelato !! The shop opens till late up to 2am. Good quality and a good dessert finish after having a fergburger !
Benedict Uy
Although it looks like they primarily serve ice cream and gelato, they also have a really decadent hot chocolate. Comes in two sizes and it is one of those that have the big chocolate hit.
Shaun Lott
The third part of the Ferg trilogy, and the quality is maintained. Excellently made gelato and smoothies, and a rather wonderful chilli hot chocolate. Also does lunch soups and breakfast muesli. If you buy a fruit pie from the bakery next door, they'll scoop on some gelato for no extra charge. Good luck to Fergs for maintaining such a high quality trio of outlets.
A Culinary Affair
The back story : With the famous Fergburger in situ just two doors down, and the fast rising Fergbaker next door, Mrs Ferg completes the Ferg trilogy in Queenstown. Having been satisfied by the burgers and pies from the other Ferg eateries, I felt a visit to Queenstown would not be complete without trying Mrs Ferg "the sweet counterpart"<br/><br/>Setting: Adorning the same wooden styling as the Fergbaker next door with the now well recognised gold-plated Ferg head logo on the floor entrance, except this time depicting Mrs Ferg, there is a sense of familiarity as you walk in. Gelato after gelato flavour are showcased in the glass display, giving a sea of colours - a child's dream! A simple wooden counter lines the opposite wall with a water cooler at the end. A place catering obviously for take aways rather than eat-in - much like its Ferg counterparts. <br/><br/>Food: Mrs Ferg is a place mainly for liquid treats - such as shakes and gelato - rather than a dessert house. Its focus is mainly on its gelato - with easily over 20 different gelato flavours - it attracts flocks of customers even in winter. For the health conscious they also do 6 different kinds of smoothies at $8.90 or 4 kinds of fresh pressed fruit and vegetable juices at $7.90. They also have over 10 flavours of gelato shakes to choose from as well as hot chocolate drinks and soups. On this particular Winter's day, I wanted a hot dessert treat and was pleasantly satisfied with their sticky date pudding. The side of berry compote was a welcome, if different, addition to the rich butterscotch sauce and cream. The texture was soft but had a bounce to it - the way a good sticky date pudding should. For $10 they also do other warm treats including a dark chocolate cake. For a takeaway dessert, I have to say it was plated very well - complete with a sugar topper. Their limited options beyond "liquid" options (drinks, gelato, soup) though makes the revisit potential lower compared to its more developed Ferg counterparts.<br/><br/>Occasion: Takeaway dessert - mainly for gelato and shakes but also serves a limited selection of hot desserts and healthy smoothies and juice blends. <br/><br/>Revisit potential : 6/10

Mrs Ferg is the third installment to the Ferg business, a nice cap to the trilogy. They specialise in gelato but also serve smoothies and sorbets for the more health conscious. I popped in after our second visit at Fergburger, very happy to find out that they are still open at 11pm! There's a huge selection of gelato, you can ask to taste some if you find it difficult to decide on which one to get. I settled with one scoop of a simple vanilla gelato on a cone ($5.50). I honestly found it a bit pricey for the flavour and the portion size. But then again, it may just be a one-off, or I may not have chosen the best flavour.
Rosemary Young
The ‘wife’ of Fergbaker/Fergburger specialising in coffee and sorbet and gelato which are all made on site. <br/><br/>Mrs Fergs is the recent expansion of the ‘Ferg’ empire from its first burger shop, followed by the bakery and now a gelato shop, of which all three are located right next to each other.<br/><br/>You can ask for tastings, and I definitely did my fair share of tastings as some of their flavours were definitely original and interesting, such as gin and cucumber, basil, lime and tequila, orange and cardamon etc.<br/><br/>Please check my website for photos and review
