Review Madam Woo - Queenstown

Pamela Vanoy Duque
It's a good place to try some Asian food and a variety of small plates to share, my favourite was a braised duck Taco 🌮 it's a must! We also tried beef rendang that in my opinion needs something more than a cup of rice! Its flavour is very intense but it is good. Great variety of wine, beers and cocktails.

The food was good (not great). The roast duck hawker roll and the beef rendang were the standout dishes. Really good and would happily go back for those dishes. The sesame prawn toast and the five spice fried chicken were quite average, but unfortunately, the stir-fried pork belly was dry and overcooked. Wouldn't recommend the pork belly at all. The atmosphere of the restaurant is quite nice, but the service was really slow. I'll admit we went on a busy night in the middle of peak season, but having to ask three times for a cocktail and getting charged for a dish we didn't order was not good. Overall, still a good place to try if you're in the area.

Good atmosphere and great services. As for the food: Woo fried rice 2.5/5 Nasi lemak - beef 3/5 Char Kway Teow 1/5 Sparling water $10/bottle Cheers! (2023-12)

Wow, what an Asian fusion restaurant! The food is truly amazing and exceptionally unique, offering flavors that transport you to the Far East. The atmosphere in the restaurant is delightful and pleasant. While the service was decent, there's room for improvement. The dishes were exceptionally tasty, although slightly on the expensive side. I would highly recommend making a reservation in advance to secure your spot.

Great Food, good Service nice place, we had the fried rice, noodles with prawns and slaw everting tasted fresh and really good, these three dishes go really well together, the withe wine from the Marlborough sounds was excellent. They have Aperol Spritz as well, not much restaurants or bars offers that in nz. We had a wonderful evening.

I recently tried Madam Woo - I passed few times next to the place and I was like why not to try And I was a definitely NOT disappointed - the place is super cozy and beautifully decorated. The lady who welcomed me was really caring and gentle Regarding the food the bench of options is quiet big. You will find some fusion between the Malay and Chinese cuisine. I tried the Fried Rice with the Fried Chicken with their sweet Chili sauce - it was absolutely fabulous everything was perfectly well cooked and seasoned. The sauce was just incredible ( still dreaming about ahah ) It’s a MUST TRY if you are in Queenstown Can’t wait to be back

As a Malaysian I recommend the laksa! Authentically prepared… ☺️ right spicy level.. Just slightly on the sweet side to what I’m used to.. Wish I have more space to try out the other dishes! Thanks for bringing Malaysian food to my favourite city in NZ ❤️

Every dish here was brilliant. So much flavour and good serving sizes. Service wasn’t the best, meals came out at different times, about 5 minutes between the first main meal getting to the table and the last (there were only four of us). Took a while to get drinks too.

Madam woo is great for some people who miss asian food while in New Zealand. The indoor quite great, food itself is decent for me. I ordered Nasi Lemak (8/10) : The rice was great, however there's no chicken for this menu Kwetiau 7/10 : for me it quite tasteless pork belly (8/10): this is so tasty and the texture was great Spicy fried chicken (7.6/10) : Great texture but no spicy at all for me

Dined at Madam Woo in January 2023. Reservation was easy through the website. Standout features of this restaurant are it's location, layout, service and food. It has atmosphere - that continuous buzz of chatter and laughter that gives you the privacy for your own conversations - but it is never too loud that you need to raise your voice. The food is excellent with some very interesting options. If anything - portions are a little large but one can always exercise self control. The service is brilliant - a standout - they anticipate your needs - never did we need to attempt the catch the server's eye. They are happy staff and properly trained. Food comes quickly so make sure your hungry!

Despite having been to the Madam Woo that was located in Christchurch, a recent victim of either Covid or the relocation of foot traffic to the newer Terrace area, and enjoyed the food - my selection in Queenstown left me thirsty!

The Queenstown restaurant isn’t huge and space is tight, but not so much so as to make you feel claustrophobic. 80s hits envelop the room, which seems slightly out of kilter with the food style, but the number of people quietly singing along to Tiffany and Fleetwood Mac indicates that few people care about this cultural incompatibility.

Considering we are still very much in a post-Covid phase with borders closed, it was very busy. In fact the whole of Queenstown seemed busy - maybe not pre-Covid busy but a lot of NZers about for the school holidays. Very different from when we lived down this way and barely struck another NZ family anywhere.

Anyway, the food. I have particular dietary requirements these days which are often hard to fulfil, and I don’t expect restaurants to be able to cater to my reduced carb needs - so I look for what I can get away with. Not much on this menu other than the Pork Belly with Asian Greens and Oyster Sauce.

I knew to expect a saltier than average dish due to the oyster sauce but I wasn’t really prepared for just how salty it actually was. I’m not averse to salt either - I’m not afraid to use it on even salads. This was too much for me though and the reduced carb requirement meant I couldn’t offset it with rice even a little bit.

Was so salty I didn’t finish it and couldn’t - my wife happily grabbed the pork and had it with her rice so it just looked like I ate it.

The service was great, staff attentive and I enjoyed the flashback musical soundtrack we were exposed to but the main dish was a significant let down I’m afraid.
Perfect location right in the city centre and beautiful aesthetics. Plenty of options for vegetarians and absolutely loved our eggplant roll. Very refreshing and had beautiful flavours. Our request for vegan food was accommodated without any fuss and really liked the customer service of this place. 4 stars as bathrooms are not so clean.

Madam Woo was one of the fun highlights of our dining experiences in Queenstown. Reservation is almost certainly necessary as it is packed all the time. We spend a lot of time in Penang, Malaysia and know the standard of food there and Madam Woo as an eclectic interpretation of Malaysian food is a real winner. We had the calamari, the ayam percik with prata starter, the crackling pork stir fry and fried noodles. All were great. They had many wines by the glass and the location is one of the best in Queenstown. The service was great in all regards with special mention to Katie in the upstairs bar, Alex the server and Kacie the hostess. A lot of fun with great food in the heart of Queenstown, well worth a visit in our opinion.

Always a pleasure to eat here with friends and family. Everything is delicious including the mocktails and we usually order too much food because we want to taste it all😊

First day we arrived, we had dinner there and the food honestly was not bad, I would give 7/10 but then we took away some food for the children and we were shocked to see that the chicken was raw on the inside, we have no plan to go back and complain as it was already 9pm by the time we reach our hotels but we were very dissapointed and upset as its very dangerous if in case we didn't even check and cut the chicken into half, and just straight away let the children eat it. No more next time.

This was pumping with people
All around, lucky we managed to get the table.food was delicious and lovely collection of south Asian food and very generous portions.
Love the ambience and wine selection. Must visit once in queens town craving for Asian fusion
Tracey @ NoWongFood
Madam Woo wasn’t at Queenstown when I last visited the town in 2014, so that got me to try something new! And no regrets. The interior is so unique that it has light touches of Malaysian history yet not overboard and still carries the fusion within. Madam Woo is spread around New Zealand in cities like Christchurch, Takapuna, Hamilton and Queenstown.

Lovely staff... Food - their special roti was amazing and full of flavour ... Laksa was slightly bland and the kuey teow unfortunately had too much soy sauce which made it salty.
ChefZ
Delicious, reasonably priced, a goto place to eat. Went for the first time in Queenstown & looking forward to going to the Takapuna one once back in Auckland. Josh Emett establishments never disappoint.
Keshia
Loved the food with a hawker roll as a highlight. Great flavor in the Pork belly dish and enjoyed the coconut rice to go with it. Decent sizes to order as sharing plates, would highly recommend.
Lilly Hooper
Had a good dinner with my family. Puts the woo back in wooh. Lovely French waitress. The ginger mojito was rlly good. Loved the vegan options too. Massive woo
MELB JOURNAL
Delicious sharing style menu with a Malaysian Asian fusion. Would recommend the hawkers which are an Asian take of the taco but instead of a tortilla, the ingredients sit in a deliciously crunchy roti. Cool decor and efficient staff.
Neat Eats
Went here with a group and we must’ve had something organised as I didn’t order a thing and therefore not 100% which dishes we got. I know there were a couple of different dumplings (all good), spring rolls (ok), the beef rendang, which was good (but not as good as monsoon poon’s), ginger chicken, pineapple and chicken salad, possibly another chicken salad, vegetable Dahl, I honestly can’t remember but the food in general was good, nothing to complain about at all, I ate more than I needed just because it was tasty. The roti was amazing. Couldn’t fit dessert but got a Vietnamese coffee and tried a bit of my workmates mango ice cream which was actually really good after all the spice. The food was a bit spicier than I expected, but I love spice so all good with me. Would go back for a cheap and cheerful dinner. Place was quite noisy and busy on a Friday night so has that kind of atmosphere.

Food was great, service was really good.
Just laksa was a little bit sweet for my dad.but hainanese chicken rice was really really delicious. I would like comeback next time.

For all the hype surrounding Madam Woos Queenstown honestly this place is quite average. The service was great and food ok but my main gripe was that the food was not steaming hot. Now I am not sure if that’s how it’s meant to be served but I like my hot food served hot :) we did not get a booking last time around and quite frankly it was alright after waiting 4 years to try this place out. I will definitely try the other branches out though. We ordered the Hawker rolls which was probably the best thing we did order rate this at 4) -1 in chicken and the other eggplant. Ginger and prawn dumplings (3.5), mushroom spring rolls (3.5) and my least favorite the fried chicken (2). This was too dry and room temperature.

Thanks to a friend’s recommendation, we try out Madam Woo tonight. After a late lunch, we all feel like a late dinner which means we rock up at around 8:30pm. The place is almost full, but it doesn’t take long for our friendly Scottish host to clear a table and get us seated. The menu looks really inviting and it’s difficult to choose, so in the end we opt for three entrees that include the prawn dumplings ($11), mushroom spring rolls($9), and chicken satay($14). The flavours and textures are intense, and superb!! We can’t decide which is best, but it’s a toss up between the spring rolls and the dumplings. For mains, we go for the pork belly stir fry ($19), honey soy squid ($18), and Char Kway Teow ($24). We split 2 x bowls of rice($6) and 2 x roti canai($10) between us. We’re also given a complimentary side dish of stir fried vege that are really delicious. Again, the flavours of the dishes are perfectly rich, with just enough spice, and great textures thanks to cashew nuts, fresh sprouts etc. The service from the lovely girls on tonight is friendly and attentive, with plenty of good advice being offered over the menu options. The decor is cool, with large pictures, photos, and woven bamboo light shades. Would definitely head back here in a heartbeat! Well done team!

Very pleasant and adequately lit ambience. The place was a little crowded so the staff was a bit here and there, but that's just a compliment to how popular they are. The staff was friendly and well versed with their menu. Food was amazing and packed with flavour. The price is slightly high but it doesn't even matter once you get a bite.

We order two hainanese chicken rice and it is really tasty! It is different with the normal one I have been ate but it is exceed my expectation! Very good. Also we order spring roll and shirmp dumplings ‘ very good

Food was great - I highly recommend getting the pork belly, honey & soy squid and I personally enjoyed the Blushing Dragon drink. However service was terrible when we had our dinner - there seemed to be more than enough waiters & waitresses to cater all customers but somehow it took very long for us just to request some refills for our water. Our food also took very long to come out. The restaurant was fully booked that night and I almost let it go but then I saw some of the waitresses constantly chatting with some customers, completely disregarding our presence. It is very unfortunate because we could have had a positive experience with the food but the service definitely needs improvement.

High expectations for Madam Woo and very disappointed. Front of house team are lovely & the venue busy. Food however, wasn’t authentic... the beef rendang lacked any flavour, spice & looked like an Irish stew. The stir fry pork had nice vegetables, with hardly anything that resembled an Asian green...the pork dry & over cooked. When asked how was the meal? I was embarrassed to say ‘bland’ & was told the executive chefs were visiting Malaysia soon - a big learning curve on how to prepare Asian food.

This place is bustling and vibrant with a comfortable vibe, not too classy or grunge. You get wafts of fish sauce and curry aromatics as soon as you walk into their rather snuggly, narrow setup.

We ordered some mushroom spring rolls, prawn dumplings, and Hawker rolls to start. Ask for what the special Hawker roll is. When I went in last night, it was beef rendang, and it was bloody amazing! The roti was quite hard and tough, which made it a little unpleasant to eat, but the filling was packed with pungent, bold, and curry-soaked tender beef chunks. 😋 yum! It was my favourite dish of the night. Madam Woo’s is famous for their Hawker rolls, and you should definitely try one. $14~$16 for one is better than getting 4 mediocre dumplings for around the same price.

As for the curry dishes, seafood curry was much better than the chicken curry, but neither were anything to rave about. I feel like the portions are quite small - I thought food would be the same as the Takapuna branch, but I found it quite different in presentation as well as portions.

A nice drinks menu - I was happy they had Hendricks gin, and my friend enjoyed their cocktails, especially the Singapore Sling.

Service was okay; the staff were so busy I felt sorry to ask them for spoons (which I never got), and I didn’t appreciate the waitress pushing drinks - an optimist would think this is being attentive, but the pessimist in me found it annoying.

Overall, I think it’s hyped up Malay-Chinese, not bad but not mind-blowing either.

Another favourite queenstown local, service was a bit slower than usual.
Duck salad is a must, crispy chicken, ribs are also a great option.
Fresh favours.
Good atmosphere.
HobbityElf
One of the better meals we had in Queenstown. packed with flavour and varity. The chicken hawker rolls were particularly good and the roti donut with ginger ice cream was a seriously good surprise.

This is a bit of a throwback to my trip to Queenstown, New Zealand, last year. On our last night, the Mothership and I were craving some Asian food and so we went to MADAM WOO in the centre of town. I’d heard from quite a lot of people that it was really good for casual Asian-fusion / Malaysian dishes and it certainly did not disappoint!
Waferzhang96
Soft shell crab was overcooked and it's super salty to cover the burnt flavour. Totally different experience from the madam woo in Auckland so disappointed
Rose Rose
Had spring rolls stuffed with shiitake mushroom, sticky pork hawker roll, soy sesame eggplant hawker roll, Kum heong style soft shell crab, roti Canai, Malaysian Dahl
Crab was average. Didn’t like spring roll. Loved everything else. Atmosphere was good too

Influenced by traditional Malaysian hawker food, Madam Woo first open it's doors in 2013 in Queenstown and then expanded to 4 more restaurants that are now scattered across NZ. Beef Murtabak NZ$10. This stuffed pan-fried bread was filled with curry flavoured beef mince and potato cubes that had absorbed all the beef flavour. The bread was super crispy and flaky, you could hear it sing when biting into it. We found it enjoyable solo or with the accompanying creamy curry dip.

Very high quality food. Well thought out dishes. Service was not that great but the food made up for it. Try the pork and prawn dumplings or the pulled pork roll... they were really amazing.
S.aldabal
Great Hawker rolls, we tried the special of the day. Shiitake spring rolls were also great. Great service. We had to wait 25 mins for a table but there was a waiting area where you could be served appetisers and drinks. The only downside is that the restaurant is packed and too loud, I couldn’t have a proper conversation.
Pradeep Cherukkur
Good Malaysian food. Only concern is Nasi Lemak doesnt come with Rendang. However food taste is good. Definitely recommended and will visit them again.

After a stressful day of delayed flights and a lot of running to achieve the domestic – international transit, we finally arrived in Queenstown. A&N were kind enough to pick us up from the airport and guide us in our first little taste of this charming corner of the world. We started off the evening at The Lodge Bar for some pre dinner drinks. Owned by Rodd & Gunn it certainly has the same hunting lodge/man cave feel with fur throws on the furniture and their own mounted deer head. In this modern setting, it’s a little less creepy than usual.
Kazzakai
Hit and miss. Had the eggplant hawker roll and duck salad. Kinda wished I got 2 hawker rolls instead. Dined with a few families and generally consensus was that meals were too spicy for the kids.
Tt_akl
This place has awesome food! The duck salad is amazing and the lamb curry although the kuay teow was uncooked even after a replacement the flavours were great one down point is that after coming here once every three years there hasn't been a change in the menu

Maybe it's just unlucky cuz the dish we chose were not that good, while I found so many people enjoyed their food there, it was sort busy when we got into the restaurant.

We had ordered suimai(pork and prawn) which was kind of fine, in addition, the wonton soup was not the traditional Chinese dish which had lots of soy sprouts inside which made me confused, it was salted and little bit spicy. Besides, the hainanese chicken with rice was sweet...I couldn't believe it...If you chose this restaurant for having good Chinese food then it was disappointing...

However, the serivice they provided was good, the waiter gave us a brief introduction after he knew we were new there. Thx!
We went to QT for a 3 day vacation from Auckland and Madam Woo was our first lunch destination. the entire street has a European feel to it and you have an option of sitting outside or inside. We, inspite being chilly, decided to sit outside.

Here's what we ordered:

- Prawn and coriander dumplings
- amazing, if only they could make it 6 pcs instead of 4

- Malaysian Dahl with Jasmin rice - tastes more like Indian Dal tadka with lot of curry leaves.

- Woo sambal with coconut rice
- sambal in not exceptional could use a little more seasoning, loved the coconut rice.

- Wok fried asian vegetables
- perfect! no more words, just perfect!

- Roti canai
- Nice, hot, crispy. A little overpriced for 1 roti though.

- Jasmin tea
- One of the many great things they offer in Asian restaurants. Perfect as always.

- Fried chicken and tofu salad- Fried chicken could use more seasoning, tofu salad was not bad too!

Much recommended

Heard quite lot about this place but it was closed when we went yesterday :-( looks like they are under ?renovation.
Call them and it goes on to the answering machine.

Fantastic food, walked buy during New Years period and tried to see if they had free table (8.30pm) was told could get one at 9 so went for a stroll. Had a table as promised we we returned. We ended up getting our food around 9.30 which was just sublime and a fantastic price to boot!
Mark Liddament
Fantastic service, excellent menu and very good for kids. One of the best kid-specific menus we've ever seen (check out the drink options; more like mocktails than your usual kiddy stuff). Beware the spice in some of the kids dishes, if they're sensitive to that. We loved it and would recommend it highly :)
Junaya Raika
We ordered badly and I was a little disappointed that the waitress didnt provide some guidance on our choices. We went in for a light lunch so ordered two mains but they were both REALLY rich and didnt complement each other. Some advice would have been a meal saver. Also another party pushed in front of us when going to pay and matridee was not very 'aware' so service on the whole needs a little polishing.
Alix
Their soft shell crab is a winner! If I'm going to back to Queenstown and to this restaurant, I'm definitely going to order it again. This place is so busy though. We didn't have a reservation so we were told we can only dine in for a certain length of time. Also, it's quite expensive - food is nice but I think not a great value for money. I guess we really can't expect it to be cheap as it's in the centre of a popular tourist location.
Shell
I got the eggplant hawker roll and it was the best food I've tasted this year. So yum! Efficient service and friendly staff. Good vibes all round.
Natalie Grant
Great little spot! Food was tasty! Awesome vibe! They are known for their hawker style rolls apparently which were yum! We had the eggplant one. We had the special dumplings of prawn pork and corn also yum and fresh! The chicken salad was nice too and the lamb and chicken satay was great! Very reasonably priced! Would return again when we have a bigger appetite for sure! Great service! Thanks guys!

I came here to try the char kuey teow which is ridiculously overpriced but I knew I had to try it before commenting.

The service was lovely, decor beautiful, drinks quite expensive but nothing compared to this dish.

The portion was decent unfortunately they used dried rice noodle and I found bits of super hard noodle whereby I couldn't even chew on and had to spit out. Flavour wise it wasn't bad for a fusion! But that rice noodle just threw me off. And worse of all I was in a fancy restaurant paying fancy prices and was not expecting that. Staff was told but never got back to us. Good thing the manager at the cashier managed to sort things out.

Didn't try much else (definitely not that overpriced hainanese chicken rice) as enough said.
Stephy_NakiGirl
Had heard so much about Madame Woo (the original) so it was great to finally visit.
We arrived earlier in the night which is recommended as it does get quite busy
Service was good - friendly & attentive. We ordered a couple of dishes each which was heaps.
The Shu mai was well made with lots of chunky filling. Stirfried veges flavourful. Beef rendang had lots of flavour too but wasn't too hot. The Char Kway Teo vegetarian was again one of the best we'd tried. The Roti wasn't as nice - almost too crispy and pastry like.
The ginger mojito was very gingery - it needed a bit of lime to freshen it up & balance it.
All in all a delicious meal - we will be back
Ellie@W
Really nice service. Had our first day dinner in Queenstown and definitely worth it. We ordered pork hawker, soft shell crab and fish curry. All were a little salty but still fantastic. Highly recommend the hawker and 'ping pong' cocktail . Most importantly, sitting outside to enjoy the beautiful views.
Marie
We had a great table outside looking at the beautiful view of Queenstown. Service was great, especially as it was busy. We had the prawn dumplings which were delicious as well as the wontons to start.
The ribs were very tasty and the pak Choy & coconut rice were divine 👍🏻
Definitely recommend this place.
Saurav Krishnan
Had some amazing soft crab curry! An chicken rentang with coconut rice. Their shaolin temple mocktaik was also great.... nice ambience excellent an fast serving except tat we had to wait a bit!

We finally made it to the famous Madame Woo's. Talked about being hyped up! We had a large group and started with cocktails all of which were delicious. We then ordered dumplings and mushroom spring rolls for starters, I didn't like the spring rolls at all for me, they tasted like dirt. Adam on the other hand loved them so each to their own. The dumplings were okay. More cocktails as the night went on and the food certainly improved! We ordered Dahl and soy honey crab for mains to share alongside a roti. The Dahl was the best part of the night it was delicious, thick and creamy (dairy free though) and spiced perfectly. The crab was cooked nicely and was very tender but firm. I liked it but found it was overpoweringly Steph and needed maybe a lemon or mayo to off set it. Adam found it incredibly salty - to the point that night he couldn't sleep and was super thirsty. All in all I probably would only go back for the name or cocktails.

Madam woo is a great restaurant for good Asian food. The ambience is pretty great with simple interiors.I loved the location of this restaurant. Overall a good experience.

The original Madam Woo is fantastic! Have been here every time I'm in Queenstown. If you're after delicious selection of modern Asian fusion then look no further! Their extensive menu is sure to please everyone and their cocktails are also top notch.
Eric
Very good and a must try if you like tasty Asian flavours! The Tiger prawn & chestnut dumpling and pork prawn Chinese mushroom sui mai for starters were good though we liked the former much better.

The Percik chicken toasted coconut was just super! very nice flavours. Te coconut and cilantro combination is perfect! This is for sharing.

Capped it off with a very tasty beef rendang ( chicken option also available ). Mix the rice with all its ingredients then we added the beef to the mix! perfect perfect! You might need to order an extra cup of rice, the meat is that tasty!
BukanOtotTapiLemak
Good selection of asian dishes. Had hainanese chicken rice, lamb satay, and rendang with nasi lemak. Chicken was a bit bland, lamb and rendang were flavourful and very tender. Waited for 30mins before all the food being served but the taste were fine.
Siobhan
Madam Woo lives up to all the hype! We had a 45 min wait for our table for 4 but it was worth it. The highlights were the ribs and squid - divine! Staff were friendly and really knew the dishes and the restaurant had a great vibe.
Cino's Mum
Hawker rolls - it's all about the hawker rolls people! I can't stress this enough! We had the pulled pork (so delicious it disappeared before I could try it!) and the chicken & coconut which had a lip tingling chilli kick. The beautiful roti casing was mind-bogglingly oily, dense & flaky all at once. Wished we went back just for the hawker rolls another time.

As it was, they were just the precursor to an epic feed....the Asian veggies were great and had a variety of stuff in them. Pork belly was juicy and everything you'd expect, with a smick crunchy pork floss. Mushroom spring rolls were also a delicious flavour surprise. Pork ribs were the tiniest we'd ever seen but tasty enough (an expert might suggest they'd stuck to the pan a bit). Overall I loved it but after those bloody awesome hawker rolls, husbandio thought the food lacked something he couldn't quite put his finger on. More hawker rolls probably. 😋 If rating was based purely on dem rolls, it'd be a 5 out of 5.

This place just felt like eating some Asian food at a kiwi bar. Food was average taste. Serving was quiet good and menu was quiet interesting. Staff was friendly and helpful. But the food was quiet average and does not live to up to the fame
Mezza
My favorite restaurant in Queenstown! The decor is funky, the staff are friendly and fast. AND the food is fantastic! We ordered the soft shell crab, which was tangy and so moreish. We ordered the honey and soy squid to accompany the crab. The squid was cooked beautifully. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Madam Woo's.
Eat Drink Anon
Had a quick snack of wontons, followed by 2 Roti breads (1 pulled pork, 1 chicken). Flavours were nice across each and Roti was flaky and buttery. Although I think the pulled pork was pork belly I didn't expect to have the gelatinous fat sliced and mixed through the meat. Not to my taste. In any case, the 3 small dishes we had showed promise for the rest of the menu - will try next time.
Jessi67
A busy little spot - you have to be lucky to walk in and just get a table, which just goes to show how popular it is. We loved the menu - hawker roll and squid were highlights, meant for sharing and yet, substantial and filling. Fantastic atmosphere and decor as well. We will be back when we return to NZ.

Head on over to Madam Woo if you're feeling famished and order the shredded duck and cabbage salad. Guarantee you won't regret a thang. Outstanding customer service and great vibes!

Great food.Enjoyed the hawker roll (pork) and mango sago.If you haven't tasted some good food this is a must here in Queentown.Try the Hawker!

Madam Woo - I finally made it.

Heard a lot about this place and it pretty much went on the to-do list as soon as we landed in Q'town for a 6 day trip. Talk about HYPE!

The place is a lot more casual than I expected. Keen to see if the Auckland joint is different. Staff are friendly and casual - just my taste. The table setting is cool and the server somehow fit in all the food on the table.

We had some dumplings and a aubergines and vegs wrapped in a flaky pancake which was interesting and tasty. For mains we had honey soy squid which was too sweet for my liking, spare ribs and something else that I can't remember.

Overall the food was good but did it live up to the hype - not 100% sure. It does make me visit the Auckland branch to help me make a stronger opinion. So stay tuned but for now I give you a fair 3.5!
Michelle Hwang
Cocktail Ping Pong was very good. All three dishes were nice but the texture of tofu was too tough. Suggest to change more soft or juicy tofu.
Tammy
Great restaurant! Delicious food - we had dumplings and a few hawker rolls, one chicken the other pork. Both were great - combining roti, salad and meat of choice. Enjoyed a few cocktails and the friendly service. Restaurant has a good vibe. A tad expensive, but it is a touristy town. Would recommend it to others and go back myself.

Went to this place after hearing a lot about it and therefore decided to see what the hype was all about. The USP for this place was Malaysian inspired hawker style with other branches since country wide

To start off, we had the hawker roll which is a odd fusion of what one presumes is a roti canai encasing in our case some sticky pork with pickled cucumbers. A really odd combination which personally didn't work as it wasn't the normal light spring roll or delicious roti canai either. The roti itself was flaky and more like a pie crust rather than the oil based roti canai that one comes to expect. The saving grace for the dish was the excellently cooked pork and the flavoursome pickled cucumber

For mains we had the duck salad which was punchy and flavoursome with the fresh dressing which livened up the palate. The other dish which was the standout of the night was the stirfried pork with its spicy crackling crumble topping which was devine, zingy with the excellent kick of spice, when combined with the jasmine steamed rice did indeed ensure that this was the dish that could easily grace any good hawker stall and food hall up and down Malaysia

The cocktails complemented the meal really well bringing in the vibrancy and freshness that one would get from any drinks stall

Overall some excellent use of produce, slightly pricey for the portions and definitely ain't what one would expect a hawker to produce. Saying that, I wouldn't refuse another chance to visit this place again.... probably next time with lower expectations

Seated immediately, good ambience and lovely, prompt service all night.

Delicious cocktail and starters. Mains very tasty though found the wok fried pork belly a bit salty. Had to have the mango sago for dessert, was not let down!

Recommended!

Teaming up with Malaysian-born chef Jane Leong, Madam Woo is the baby of proud parents Michelin star chef Josh Emett and business partner Fleur Caulton. Undoubtedly one of the most popular and exciting eatery in Queenstown, Madam Woo takes inspiration from traditional Malaysian hawker food and is happily nested closed to the waterfront, in Queenstown’s Mall.

Nestled in Queenstown mall with gorgeous views of the lakefront area (if you sit outside) this is a restaurant that should be given a try. Their menu consist of meals that are made to share with individual options also available.

The staff are quite helpful and insist on assisting in case the guests struggle to choose from the menu. Quite a different menu from the usual that Thai restaurants offer (although this is more Asian fusion).

The food itself, depending on what you order can be a hit or a miss. I had ordered the Rednang with chicken, which is a spicy dish and I can't handle spicy. So whilst the coconut milk added great flavour I couldn't quite enjoy the food to the maximum as I was struggling to handle the spice.

We had the Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang, Hainan Chicken Rice, Roti & Chicken Satay. Food is not authentic Malaysia; so Malaysians, lower your expectations.
Dee
We got back from a sightseeing trip and was not sure what to have as it was quite late when we arrived back at Queenstown Central. As we strolled down the Mall, we came across this restaurant and gave it a go. We tried the nasi lemak, squid & beef rendang. Nasi lemak was on the okay side to be honest. Beef rendang was also on the okay side. It tasted a little bit flat. The highlight for me was the squid. The squid dish was perfection! Nicely seasoned, full of flavour and just delish. I am glad the waitress suggested the squid dish, otherwise we would have had a so so experience. Overall it was a nice experience. Thank you.

Delicious Roti, the Hawker Rolls are the star of the menu. Riesling that initially appeared too sweet but then perfectly complemented our Beef Rendang. The Rendang was a little mild for our taste but a good flavour. The rest of the ensemble was just ok (dumplings and wontongs) but the great decor, hawker roll and great service a memorable impression. A good night out.

everything was delicious, we had the $55 banquet with 10 people. my favourite dish was the prawn and pork noodle dish. great service as well, will come back

Simply 'wow'
Went to this place for lunch.. Ordered variety of dishes and all were masterpiece. Worth every penny and food speaks volumes in itself. So impressed. Definitely going again !!

First time here, have been to Madam Woo at Takapuna, great to visit the original. Very, very busy and popular, great buzz.

Staff excellent. Food excellent. Especially the Beef Rendang.

This place is on point, great fit out and vibe all the staff were attentive and we'll versed. Food was amazing (those hawker rolls omg). Had an Asia classic coctail also, really really good. This place should be your first stop in queenstown hands down.

We were very excited about dining at Madam Woo,as we are big Josh Emmett fans and had heard great things.
It was a busy Saturday night but we were happy to have drinks and wait for a table. We went to the upstairs bar, unfortunately the tables went clean and the barman didnt take any notice of us, he was too busy talking to friends. My brother waiting about 10mins at the bar for him to finish his convo before he served us. This was pretty disappointing but did not reflect the srvice for the rest of the night. Once we were seated we had a thorough run down of the menu by our great waiter.
We ordered a good amount of food! We ordered all the steamed and fried selection, the crispy wontons were my favourite. The satay prawns were cooked great but the tumeric coating was a little strong for my liking. The pork hawker roll was absolutely impossible to fault, one of the tastiest things ive ever eaten! So flavoursome and the roti was so crispy and delish.
For mains we shared the fried noodles, beef rendang and a steamed whole blue cod, and the laksa. The noodles were great but the pork sausage had a strange texture. The rendang came highly recommended and it did not disappoint! Juicy beef pieces with a yummy sauce, also loved that the rice came with all the trimmings. The fish was nice but we agreed we could have gone without, it was fiddly to eat and the bones with a bit annoying. Laksa was good too, strong flavours and nice and thick.
Everything was brought to us in a timely fashion even though the place was full. Most of the food was as good as expected but the bar service really let us down. The decor was great without being too much. Now that im back im Auckland ill definitely be trying the Madam woo in Takapuna!

There’s a lot to be excited about in Queenstown. An adrenaline junkie has a load of options from paragliding, bungee jumping, sky diving, canyoning, even “hydro attacking.” Families with small children can take a trip to the Skyline complex. There’s also a couple of tours available, one that shouldn’t be missed is a trip to Milford Sound. On top of my to-do list is a meal at Madam Woo.

We decided to give this place a try after looking at the great reviews and menu selection. Overall ambience and service was good. Food presentation was good and looked 'authentic' but taste wise they failed to meet the mark for us. Nasi lemak's rice was not done the way it should be, and the curry laksa's soup lacked the right flavor. However we enjoyed the fusion dishes - lychee peanut salad and the hawker rolls (roti canai wrap with chicken and salad) but we felt that food was overpriced.

Lovely place with amazing food!!! Place was very full on the sunday but staff were super friendly which made our experience that much more special. Highly recommended is the beef rendang, massive portion loads of flavour very delicious :)

We got to sit in the back area under the heaters which was very pleasant as it was a beautiful night. Service was absolutely marvellous and very attentive staff even when 'in the back'.
The prawn skewers were good albeit a little dry with the spices that covered them.
Chicken curry main was nice and spivey. A bit of a hiccup with a cold piece, however expertly recovered by the wait staff with some free roti.
The dessert of lemongrass mousse with goji was impeccable flavour with a divine look.
I love the green tea coming in a quaint tea pot, and the Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk was divine.
Very satisfied with the food and the cheap price for Queenstown was quite a nice surprise!

Stopped here for a late lunch on a beautiful Queenstown Saturday. It was fairly quiet at 3.30pm even with the craft market on. Food is really pricey for what it is - $29 for char way teow or chicken curry? I ordered the Pulled Pork 'hawker roll' which was really quite yummy. It better be for $14. It was enough for a light lunch. Decor was very nice and staff were pleasant and friendly. Would I go back again? Not unless I was seriously craving Singaporean/Malaysian food on my holiday.

God sake it was a total polar opposite for the same Resturant name Ive ever experienced before! The Takapuna Madams in Auckland was arss when we tried it, so I had to force my queen to try this one and we where both completely blown away by the standard of the taste, texture and quality the Queenstown location offered - Auckland (the dirty little cousin) needs to get it together big time!

The service was amazing and it helped with an easy on the eye Scottish lass who looked after us, she was gold!

Highly recommend when in QT

We landed here by chance on our first night in magical Queenstown. The food was delicious and the service prompt and genuinely friendly. The young female hostess was great and really looked after our 2 year old. This was our favourite in our week in Queenstown, so much so we came back on our last night. The Beef Rendang and Hawker Rolls were the best dishes. Big thumbs up!

Although you can't book, and have to wait for a table, the food is worth the wait. What a fantastic restaurant. The menu has some new and exciting experiences. All 4 dishes we ordered and shared were tasty and special. Service was excellent and the waiting staff explained the menu and gave some great suggestions. Prices are good value. We can't wait to go back

Stopped by quite late, after 2130 and was seated.

The menu had quite a lot of tasty sounding food and so we got a couple of things to share. The soft shell crab was really nice. Good flavour and crunch. The rendang was also quite good. I found the soup to be a bit bland though.

The service was good from start to end. They even reminded us about dessert as the kitchen was closing so we didn't miss out.

Great food and service so not a bad choice for food.

This is one of the MUST come restaurant in my list :-) and didn't disappoint me! Service is good but not the best service, atmosphere here is good. We came for lunch, and our seat is next to the window, it's quite good for visitors to see the scenery during eating :-) quite enjoy!

We order tiger prawns with cereal, pork wrap and pork curry( not sure the name). Tiger prawns is good with the cereal, it's different with other Asian restaurant and taste good! I would highly suggest the pork wrap! The pork wrap is tasty with the special pork vege salad and sauces which is juicy!

This place is always busy for dinner so if you want to eat here then try the lunch session for a more relaxed experience. The food is flavoursome but its almost like there was something missing. I had the beef rendang and the fish lemongrass lime curry, and I think the beef could be slow cooked for longer, as I need a knife and you shouldn't for authentic rendang. I did appreciate their use of fresh and shredded coconut to the dish, making it a bit different. The fish curry had really really nice balance and complex flavours but needed all that to be stronger, and more chilli. The staff were really courteous and friendly and the restaurant feel is very Asian fusion..
PS. If you are in Auckland and feel like a redang, try Selera in Newmarket..
Katrina Anson
Walked in and the place was packed wheras their neighbours were empty. Took that as a very good sign! Ordered the pork and lupcheong wontons, sui mai, pork noodles , chicken curry, black bean pork spare ribs and coconut rice and roti. Delish!!!! Struggled to finish it all but couldnt put our forks down. Little bit spicy which I loved!! Standoutd were the noodles and curry yum!
Hamish
Food, drinks, service, atmosphere. Wow. What a place!! We had a wide selection of food off the a la carte menu and a beautiful Otago region Pinot Noir and fantastic service from the floor staff. What a brilliant restaurant, can't recommend highly enough.
Donna&Shane
Unfortunately we waited way longer than we expected too and they didn't even realise we were waiting upstairs when we got the phone call!.... BUT the food is amazing ... Best won tons ever... Yummy starters and the other mains we had the flavours were excellent.... Definitely a must try...
Kim
Yes there are cues but go earlier and plan to enjoy a drink upstairs pre dinner. Lovely tasting food though the egg plant a bit greasy. Good for sharing and sampling a variety of Asian style street food.
Johnine @ HaloHaloAtbp
Madam Woo is the second brainchild of Michelin starred chef Josh Emett after Rata. It could well be the funky, almost rebel younger sister of Rata, with it’s smart casual environment, fusion menu, and snappy cocktails. Much like Arrow’s Thea Queen. We were the first diners to enter the restaurant just right after they opened their doors at 12 noon. I immediately asked for Bluff Oysters and ordered a ginger mojito to wash it down with.

It was our first time to try Bluff Oysters and what better place to try them first than Queenstown. The oysters are named after the small town of Bluff in the South Island of New Zealand where they are harvested from March to August each year. The town holds their annual Bluff Oyster and Food Festival around the end of May. The oysters were incredibly creamy and had a subtle crunch. It was unexpectedly light but you can definitely taste the sea. I wish we ordered more.

You can’t get past the menu without staring at the appetizer column for a good amount of time. It’s a mission to decide on what to get as every item on that column would definitely whet your appetite. If I were to make a second visit, I could say for certain that every thing I’d order would be from those lists. I did think twice about getting dim sum seeing the prices are a bit steep even for Queenstown standards. $3 a piece? Yeah, they were worth it.

My favourite of the lot would have to be the pulled pork hawker roll. The use of roti canai was brilliant and the pulled pork was flavourful. The pickled cucumber added a much welcome freshness and a bit of chopped chili gave a nice kick. Brilliant, well-balanced dish. I can eat this every day.

The pork belly was a no brainer. If you’re eating out with me and there’s pork belly on the menu, expect that you’re gonna get pork belly. Madam Woo fed me the leanest pork belly I have eaten, ever. It came with a salad of asian greens, sweet and sour tamarind, and a chili dressing. I loved how the chili was not in-your-face hot but that it would build up and suddenly you’re reaching for the nearest glass of water.

This was the best dining experience I’ve had in Queenstown. I’m so glad we saved this activity for last.
Alison
Funky place great atmosphere
Shared the Duck salad with shredded cabbage and stir fried Pork Belly with Asian greens
OMG what a taste sensation
Service great nothing was too much trouble
Would highly recommend for visitors to Queenstown

We came here for dinner on our last night in Queenstown after hearing the hype and how busy it usually is! We came in about 7pm and were told that there was about a 30 minute wait, so we wandered about and came back around 7:30pm. At 7:40pm we were directed towards a table. The waitress who served us gave us a little bit of guidance on how to order our dishes at Madam Woo because none of us have dined here before! She was so helpful and friendly and told us which dishes were big enough to share and the portion sizes of each dish! She made ordering so much easier!

We ended up getting two sharing dishes, beef rendang and the curry chicken! I preferred the chicken curry over the rendang but my group enjoyed both! They were all really nice!

I ordered a laksa for myself, Viren ordered the black bean spare ribs and Cathy and Suni shared the butter prawns. The black bean flavour on the ribs was very very strong which kind of took away my enjoyment for the dish. My laksa was good however I thought the portion size for the price was quite small.

For dessert we ordered two mango sago with palm sugar syrup and coconut cream and the deep fried banana with the ginger icecream. The sago wasn't our favourite... We're both very used to the more Cantonese version of sago (taro sago pudding/mango sago) so this was made quite differently to what we were used to. The deep fried banana wasn't bad either!

Overall, the sharing dishes were very nice even though a few of our main dishes weren't. I would like to go back and try the other dishes and then make a judgement from that.
Sarah Burdon
Most amazing restaurant the flavors were amazing and everything was cooked to profetion I just keep coming back. Hawker rolls were dilious and are well recommended can't wait to come back. ( make sure you book)
Grace Zhang
Ribs and char Kuey Teow were too salty for us. Laska lacked flavor. It's a very busy restaurant. You probably need to book a table ahead. When we got there at 7pm, half of the tables were reserved.
Graeme Cocker
The service is excellent along with the variety of food options available.
Very friendly and helpful staff. I recommend this restaurant
If the restaurant is busy the bar upstairs is a great place to have a drink while waiting for your table to become available.

Just been to the Woo. Awesome service and food. Bloody great, get there ! Look forward to going back next time in town. Pretty good drinks menu as well.

Abby Tamase
Service was A++ and food was absolutely YUM! I loved the atmosphere and how relaxed and casual the place was. Ordered the Black bean spare ribs, crispy pork belly & Honey soy tossed squid. Pork wasn't really crispy but all were delicious and full of flavour. Our favourite was the squid. Will definitely come back on our next visit to Queenstown!!

What a place!!! What awesome fusion food. Was here Thursday last week. Second time. The roti rolls are awesome. The fried chicken is great. My favorite was in fact the rice with fried anchovies the cashews . Epic. The curry is really good. Meat just breaks apart. I would give it 5 except for the pork ribs we ordered. They were hard and umm overcooked I felt. Great service too.
FOODFANATICJIMMY
With the celebrity chef as the owner, expectations of this place was especially high. I must say, the food really delivered. What a creative combination of flavours using a combination of Asian/European dishes. We went to this restaurant for dinner at around 6pm on a Friday night. The place was fully packed and considering that this was the case, we were seated quite quickly. We orderd 5 different mains. Overall, the rice,-perfectly cooked, pork belly- tender, juicy with salty yet sweet flavours(most likely soy based seasoning with possibly a hint of honey). The only disappointment was the portion size of the salmon. I LOVE salmon and have tried salmon in MANY restaurants. I know Madam woo is in the fine lines of fine dining, but it was WAYYY too small. Other than that, the perfect eat out spot in Queenstown!
Cindy Ong
The only one Asian restaurant in Queenstown CBD. The food is not bad but not a surprise for us from Asia. The prices are expansive compare to the quality of food served.
Rachel Maree
Now this is tough! I use to say this was hands down my favorite place in town and it's fair to say I visited weekly without a doubt. However over the last few months I have been a busy wee bee in and out of town and depriving myself of what I openly raved about. Today I can agree with the disappointment others have shared with me. Food... Hmm I eat the same thing every time and so does my very dear friend. My hawker was pretty much on the average side of life today usually full of great punchy flavors ? pork belly salad well please please please change it back to how it use to be change the dressing chsnge the pork change the cabbage and the presentation.. Staff.... Don't usually hear great things so I take it I've always struck gold there but not so flash today. Aghhhh I was so excited to finally get back to woos but today really saddened me!

The recent talk of the town has been Madam Woo. Embodying a tiny, cosy bar on the top with views of the marina and serving Malay and Chinese style fusion street food in its funky yet modern restaurant downstairs, Madam Woo is quite an interesting place to dine. My recommendation would be to definitely try their Roti Canai style hawker rolls and 'Nonya Chicken Curry'.
Mind The Crumbs
Madam Woo is a Malay-Chinese street food styled restaurant, with funky decor.

We managed to get seated straight away, which was unusual, even the table next to us told us we were lucky to get seated so quickly. Though there is an abundance of seating tightly packed in, it seems like this place is always bustling full of people which added to the atmosphere.

We started with a couple of cocktails I go the Asia Classic and wow, it had a great lemon tartness to it, I loved it!

For food we got:

Japanese eggplant with dried prawns.
The eggplant was soft and crunchy with the prawn crackle and a gentle kick of chilli. Despite being a side dish this was my personal favourite, though towards the end it did became slightly oily.

Rojak duck salad with cucumber, cabbage, coriander & spicy satay dressing
This was so juicy and fresh! Full of fragrant herbs with succulent pieces of duck, as far from dry as you can get. This was my boyfriend's personal favourite and my close second.

Grilled chicken satay
The satay sauce was chunky and very light and didn't overpower the perfectly grilled chicken. It was accompanied with this amazing little fresh cucumber salad which had an incredible dressing, I wish this was on the menu full sized!

Best of all the bill out came to just over 100$ which is extremely reasonable for the quality of the food.

I would go back here in a heartbeat, please open one in Wellington!

A great find. In amongst a plethora of touristy venues offering pub style food this was a real find. Funky venue, great vibe, great food and really good value for money. Had a sensational strawberry and szechuan pepper cocktail. Everything was delicious from the prawn dumplings to the incredibly moreish black bean pork spare ribs. The whole steamed fish was great value for money. Overall great vibe - we're going back tomorrow to try some more.

A trip to Queenstown for a wedding meant lots of eating out but I must say Madam Woo was the highlight.
A really funky place with superb decor and in a great central location.
We (2 adults and 3 kids) elected to share a few plates. Everything was super fresh and super tasty.
Satay, Hainanese Chicken Rice, won tons, hawker rolls, roti - all superb. The hawker roll was a real highlight - bursting with flavour.
We could not resist the Portuguese custard tarts having fond memories of them in Malaysia. They were good but the pasty was a little "odd". Tasted savory rather then sweet - still demolished them!
The alleyway to the toilets was cool too - just like being in a back ally in Hong Kong or Penang.
A highly recommended place to eat if your in Queenstown!

Ka rawe! Thanks guys the food was as expected. Delicious fresh and tasty. Thank you for our dining experience today. Highly recommended.

Worth the wait for a table. Amazing asian flavours. Pork hawker roll was outstanding on crispy roti with amazing flavour. Crispy pork awesome too. Friendly service but a little inconsistent probably due to the turnover of tables. Good wine list.
David Boshier
We stayed away from the mains and had a selection of sides. Must haves are the prawn & water chestnut dumplings, the pulled pork hawker roll and the crispy pork. All dishes were packed with the flavors of Asia.

Have a drink in their bar upstairs first over looking the street.

The service throughout the night was a little inconsistent and focused on turning tables.Jo Y

Four of us ate here and we had to wait 45minutes for a table inside. That was no problem as you can't book so we expected a wait. There's a nice bar upstairs you can go and have a drink.

Onto the food...wow. Really awesome, we got 3 starters and 3 mains which was more than enough! We were stuffed, the dumplings were great, the pork belly - awesome! Also make great cocktails and the ambience and staff of the place were brilliant.

Definitely one of the best restaurants in QT! If you love Asian fusion I couldn't more highly recommend Madam Woo.
Frank
Possibly one of the best restaurants in Queenstown, recommended to us by many people, and of course it didn't disappoint! We were 7 without a booking, but they had a table ready for us straight away which was impressive! We all went for the banquet, and the food was all amazing and glorious, with fantastic flavours, especially the dumplings, the beef rendang, and the super fabulous hawker rolls....
Ranjini Carrington
I have wanted to go to Madam Woo since I saw it's opening on Masterchef.....and it simply exceeded my expectations........i expected it to be good.....famous chef and all but it was the best food my husband and I have ever tasted
Nikki
We went here for dinner. We ordered the tiger prawn and water chestnut dumplings, honey and soy squid, steamed pork ribs, market fish, rice and roti canai (at the suggestion of the waitress). The only things we liked were the dumplings and the roti canai. The dumplings were delicious. Unfortunately the rest of the dishes were very disappointing, the flavours were very unappealing (however my nine year old loved all the food). We found out a few days later from a local is that the problem is that the food we ordered was mainly from the center of the menu - common knowledge apparently that these are not good. Big tip apparently is to only order from the left hand side of the menu....
Ernie Pope
Dined there for lunch on Saturday 15th March 2014. I ordered Beef rending and my wife ordered fresh bluff oysters. I found beef a bit chewy. The oysters arrived au natural. My wife could not eat raw. Waitress could not care less and offered no alternative. Attitude, take it or leave it. I reckon she should have reiterated at the time of ordering that they were raw. The staff did not offer to do anything with them such as grilling or kilpatrick- which would have been acceptable. When we pointed it out, the staff gave us the impression that they could not care less. Presentation of the food was excellent. Being Kiwis, we think they gave us the cold shoulder somewhat, what would they have done to overseas visitors?
Sarah Bronte
Fantastic meal. Can't book but this wasn't a problem we'd barely finished our excellent cocktails (a thai spin on a bloody mary- amazing!) before our table was ready.

Great service- friendly knowledgable staff who were just the right kind of attentive.
The beef rendang was divine as were the hawker rolls.

The satay was also great, and the squid was out of this world.
Keith A
Fabulous! The Rendang was as good as in Malaysia, but ALL dishes full and flavoursome! HIGHLY recommended. Staff were knowledgeable and attentive, but not "fussy".
Rob W
We were excited to try out this new restaurant for a light lunch with family. We ordered a variety of dishes from the menu to share as a group. We enjoyed the flavours and freshness of the food and the philosophy of sharing the dishes amongst the group, so that we could try lots of different menu items. Having the lychee salad was great as a palate cleanser between different flavours on your plate. We particularly enjoyed the steamed/fried starters, the whole flounder and the squid dish was finger licking good. Having gluten free soy sauce made the majority of the dishes an option for one of our party with Coeliacs. The staff were attentive and helpful. Food came out quickly and at good intervals for the number of dishes that we had ordered. We really enjoyed our meal and the only reason we haven't given a 5 star is that the chicken dishes could have been a bit more tender. We'll definitely be back.
Robert James
Looked forward to this meal with friends so we elected to go with the banquet @ $50pp. Staff really friendly and attentive, small menu but interesting.
Entree of steamed and fried wanton - the pork and mushroom steamed ones rock, the remainder of the meal was decidedly average with curry, steamed vege, haianese chicken. For all the hype and price, not convinced this was worth the price especially with 15% surcharge. Qtown must be one of the last places on earth doing holiday surcharges instead of building it in to margins over the other 364 days of the year.
