Perfect location right in the city centre and beautiful aesthetics. Plenty of options for vegetarians and absolutely loved our eggplant roll. Very refreshing and had beautiful flavours. Our request for vegan food was accommodated without any fuss and really liked the customer service of this place. 4 stars as bathrooms are not so clean.
Madam Woo was one of the fun highlights of our dining experiences in Queenstown. Reservation is almost certainly necessary as it is packed all the time. We spend a lot of time in Penang, Malaysia and know the standard of food there and Madam Woo as an eclectic interpretation of Malaysian food is a real winner. We had the calamari, the ayam percik with prata starter, the crackling pork stir fry and fried noodles. All were great. They had many wines by the glass and the location is one of the best in Queenstown. The service was great in all regards with special mention to Katie in the upstairs bar, Alex the server and Kacie the hostess. A lot of fun with great food in the heart of Queenstown, well worth a visit in our opinion.
Always a pleasure to eat here with friends and family. Everything is delicious including the mocktails and we usually order too much food because we want to taste it allš
This was pumping with people
All around, lucky we managed to get the table.food was delicious and lovely collection of south Asian food and very generous portions.
Love the ambience and wine selection. Must visit once in queens town craving for Asian fusion
Madam Woo wasnāt at Queenstown when I last visited the town in 2014, so that got me to try something new! And no regrets. The interior is so unique that it has light touches of Malaysian history yet not overboard and still carries the fusion within. Madam Woo is spread around New Zealand in cities like Christchurch, Takapuna, Hamilton and Queenstown.
Delicious, reasonably priced, a goto place to eat. Went for the first time in Queenstown & looking forward to going to the Takapuna one once back in Auckland. Josh Emett establishments never disappoint.
Loved the food with a hawker roll as a highlight. Great flavor in the Pork belly dish and enjoyed the coconut rice to go with it. Decent sizes to order as sharing plates, would highly recommend.
Had a good dinner with my family. Puts the woo back in wooh. Lovely French waitress. The ginger mojito was rlly good. Loved the vegan options too. Massive woo
Delicious sharing style menu with a Malaysian Asian fusion. Would recommend the hawkers which are an Asian take of the taco but instead of a tortilla, the ingredients sit in a deliciously crunchy roti. Cool decor and efficient staff.
Went here with a group and we mustāve had something organised as I didnāt order a thing and therefore not 100% which dishes we got. I know there were a couple of different dumplings (all good), spring rolls (ok), the beef rendang, which was good (but not as good as monsoon poonās), ginger chicken, pineapple and chicken salad, possibly another chicken salad, vegetable Dahl, I honestly canāt remember but the food in general was good, nothing to complain about at all, I ate more than I needed just because it was tasty. The roti was amazing. Couldnāt fit dessert but got a Vietnamese coffee and tried a bit of my workmates mango ice cream which was actually really good after all the spice. The food was a bit spicier than I expected, but I love spice so all good with me. Would go back for a cheap and cheerful dinner. Place was quite noisy and busy on a Friday night so has that kind of atmosphere.
It's a good place to try some Asian food and a variety of small plates to share, my favourite was a braised duck Taco š® it's a must! We also tried beef rendang that in my opinion needs something more than a cup of rice! Its flavour is very intense but it is good.
Great variety of wine, beers and cocktails.
The food was good (not great). The roast duck hawker roll and the beef rendang were the standout dishes. Really good and would happily go back for those dishes. The sesame prawn toast and the five spice fried chicken were quite average, but unfortunately, the stir-fried pork belly was dry and overcooked. Wouldn't recommend the pork belly at all.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is quite nice, but the service was really slow. I'll admit we went on a busy night in the middle of peak season, but having to ask three times for a cocktail and getting charged for a dish we didn't order was not good.
Overall, still a good place to try if you're in the area.
Good atmosphere and great services. As for the food:
Woo fried rice 2.5/5
Nasi lemak - beef 3/5
Char Kway Teow 1/5
Sparling water $10/bottle
Cheers! (2023-12)
Wow, what an Asian fusion restaurant! The food is truly amazing and exceptionally unique, offering flavors that transport you to the Far East. The atmosphere in the restaurant is delightful and pleasant.
While the service was decent, there's room for improvement. The dishes were exceptionally tasty, although slightly on the expensive side. I would highly recommend making a reservation in advance to secure your spot.
Great Food, good Service nice place, we had the fried rice, noodles with prawns and slaw everting tasted fresh and really good, these three dishes go really well together, the withe wine from the Marlborough sounds was excellent. They have Aperol Spritz as well, not much restaurants or bars offers that in nz. We had a wonderful evening.
I recently tried Madam Woo - I passed few times next to the place and I was like why not to try
And I was a definitely NOT disappointed - the place is super cozy and beautifully decorated.
The lady who welcomed me was really caring and gentle
Regarding the food the bench of options is quiet big. You will find some fusion between the Malay and Chinese cuisine.
I tried the Fried Rice with the Fried Chicken with their sweet Chili sauce - it was absolutely fabulous everything was perfectly well cooked and seasoned.
The sauce was just incredible ( still dreaming about ahah )
Itās a MUST TRY if you are in Queenstown
Canāt wait to be back
As a Malaysian I recommend the laksa! Authentically preparedā¦ āŗļø right spicy level.. Just slightly on the sweet side to what Iām used to.. Wish I have more space to try out the other dishes! Thanks for bringing Malaysian food to my favourite city in NZ ā¤ļø
Every dish here was brilliant. So much flavour and good serving sizes.
Service wasnāt the best, meals came out at different times, about 5 minutes between the first main meal getting to the table and the last (there were only four of us). Took a while to get drinks too.
Madam woo is great for some people who miss asian food while in New Zealand. The indoor quite great, food itself is decent for me.
I ordered Nasi Lemak (8/10) : The rice was great, however there's no chicken for this menu
Kwetiau 7/10 : for me it quite tasteless
pork belly (8/10): this is so tasty and the texture was great
Spicy fried chicken (7.6/10) : Great texture but no spicy at all for me
Dined at Madam Woo in January 2023. Reservation was easy through the website. Standout features of this restaurant are it's location, layout, service and food. It has atmosphere - that continuous buzz of chatter and laughter that gives you the privacy for your own conversations - but it is never too loud that you need to raise your voice. The food is excellent with some very interesting options. If anything - portions are a little large but one can always exercise self control. The service is brilliant - a standout - they anticipate your needs - never did we need to attempt the catch the server's eye. They are happy staff and properly trained. Food comes quickly so make sure your hungry!
