Excellent meats, from farm to plate. I got the rack of lamb and it was cooked perfectly, very juicy and tasty, one of the best rack of lamb I’ve had! Nothing to do with some other touristy places we tried on Eat Street.

This quaint place in Rotorua didn't fail to surprise us and buoy!! What a place it was. The steaks were to die for and Yogi was a master in his suggestion for the meat and style of preparation. Whoever finds themselves in Rotorua, close your eyes and land up at the Number 8 Wire - it'll be an experience to remember. All the best to the team and special shout-out to Yogi. Great job guys!!

The deco is a bit outdated but the food is outstanding, I ordered a lamb rump and this big piece of meat was cooked to perfection! The restaurant was almost empty but still took a while for the food to come so I guess they use slow cook method for the meat which I absolutely don't mind :)

Absolutely phenomenal food and service. We've had great food in Rotorua but this place absolutely takes the cake.
Steaks were cooked perfectly, no faults, and incredibly tender so could be cut with a butter knife. Yogi was very accommodating and went above and beyond to cater to my love of peppercorn sauce, which was not on the menu (his chef and he made a beautiful mix of peppercorn and Port jus) and it was one of the best sauces I've ever had with a steak.
Quieter as they are located off Eat St, however nowhere near as commercialized and if you want a more intimate dining experience with faultless food and service, this is the place.

Had a really nice dinner here! The beef was perfectly cooked - tender, juicy and savoury. The cosy atmosphere coupled with the hospitality perfected the dining experience!
Had a really good time and would love to come back if I travel in Rotorua again! :)

**Update 3rd time I have been here after 9months:
Unfortunatelyhave to drop to 3 stars.
I took my 3 colleagues here, we were the only table whenwe arrived. Too long waiting time for being the only customers, plus with the new ordering system with tablets, 3/6 dishes we ordered were wrong.
They offered gelato to us at the end, but we went home not completely satisfied, although even the wrong dishes tastes good**
They should tell from minute one what is not available in the menu.
However food was nice, came out quickly but was not busy
A bit overpriced, but must try it
Menu is not huge, that is why.food is done properly
***please pay more attention when you cook steak to make sure it is to people's liking***

Came here 14/1/2023 for a special occasion dinner with friends. I ordered the Pork Belly entree and Lamb Rack main. Both were delicious and the meat was melt in the mouth. 100% recommend this place. 5 stars 🌟

Charming little restaurant in the centre of Rotorua. Lovely service by Bailey and the owner made a real effort to make sure everything was enjoyable. A nice selection of NZ wines. The scallops were delicious, the venison carpaccio was a very nice quality of meat, and the rump of lamb was tasty and cooked perfectly. Finished with the steam pudding which was a nice touch.

I took my young son in for something different to our usual, because we had the Entertainment Book discount. I had the lamb, it was amazing - cooked perfectly. My son had the fish and chips which looked pretty plain but he enjoyed it. There weren't many people so it wasn't too noisy which I liked. But the tables are spaced well enough that if it was full it wouldn't feel too overwhelming. Recommend.

We landed in Rotorua at 10:00 pm after a long day of meetings and driving. To our luck, the only place that could offer us steaks was Number 8 Wire. It is such a beautiful place with wonderful staff (special shout out to Yogi). I ordered the venison for the first time and Yogi helped with great suggestions about the preparation. We had a wonderful time there with amazing food and beautiful atmosphere. It was a wonderful experience and a must visit if you are in Rotorua.

totally worth it, been to rotorua on this weekend had a pork belly as a entree , it was so juicy and soft. In the mains i had a lamb rump Medium rare with some mushroom sauce,Cooked perfectly I would say was the best meat in NZ. My friends had Venison and Tomahawk steak they were completely satisfied too.
Restaurant also have a peace and calming atmosphere. Its actually perfect place for a date with your loved ones.

Stumbled across Number 8 Wire on a cold Rotorua evening. We could not have had a warmer welcome.
Seated at the front window and offered a heater to remove the chill.
I had a perfectly cooked piece of Venison. Full of that gamie meat flavour and accompanied with potato and a rocket & Parmesan salad for freshness. It was very good.
My bride (who is a hard marker) was very happy with her sirloin.
We shared a Steamed Fruit pudding that reminded me of being a child at Nannas again.
Overall a great meal and most importantly wonderfully warm service.

Me and my husband very much enjoyed our time here at number 8 wire! We had our really good friends come 2 weeks before, and raved about the food
and especially about the A+ customer service, so we made a phone booking, which was super easy.
The food was cooked to perfection, and the service was amazing. Yogi really went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed, and even got us hooked on a new wine. We definitely recommend coming to Number 8 wire! You won't be disappointed 😁👍

Great food at a reasonable price. The tomahawk in particular was good value as it could be shared. Boss is friendly and makes the effort to engage his customers.
Food and drinks were served promptly but I suspect there would be some waiting if u go during peak period so it would be good to moderate your expectations.
