Review Canton Flavor - Silverdale

A wonderful place to have yum cha lunch. We ordered Stir-fried Rice Noodles with beef and some dim sums. The food was absolutely delicious! Friendly staff and great service! Highly recommended!

The food is amazing, excellent customer service. We will definitely come back.
Vasily Levshin
Wonderful place. During the lunchtime they serve yum cha, but you still can order anything from the menu. The menu has photos of everything, which is really good when you are with kids. Child friendly, some high chairs are available. I think this is the best yum cha in this area.
Eileen Tan
Authentic Cantonese cuisine at an affordable price. Has to be one of the best Chinese Restaurants in Auckland. We live nearby and we frequently go for their delicious Yum Cha Lunch. They also serve an excellent Dinner. Great service and friendly and helpful staff. Situated in old Silverdale Village.
Erin Edmonds
My third visit here for lunch. Thoroughly loved the food again. Family group this time. Wonderful friendly and efficient service - they gave our 3yr old a dinosaur plate (he loved it!). We'll be back!
Kath Armitage
My family and I always come here and I have to say the service is great the people are friendly but most importantly the food is alway consistently good!! Today would have to have been the best for service. We asked for ice water and the ladies who served us kept it coming!!! And the food turning up at our table was the same, We never had a moment where we were waiting. Highly recommended to all foodies!

Great food and great service. Tried the buffet. Not too oily like most trolley type buffet. Not too sweet on the dessert. Good value for money especially if you're hungry.
Catherine Tamaseu
Best BBQ pork buns I’ve had. Service was a little slow but it was busy and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Really enjoyed the food.

Well hidden behind the Silverdale Village, this restaurant has a strong local following as well as receiving travellers as they return to Auckland from their holidays up north. There is fresh fish and lobster available and their roasted duck is highly recommended. Seating is fairly limited so go early (before 6pm) or make a reservation. There is a small deck that overlooks the river so that can entertain the kids for a short while.

Absolutely amazing food, friendly and helpful staff, I’ve eaten at a lot of top notch restaurants around NZ but this one by far stands out for authentic chinese cuisine and yum cha!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Jules Whiteman
Great place for yum cha! Spacious seating, a good variety of very tasty yum cha dishes (esp the prawn har gows) and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Plenty of off-street parking. Thoroughly recommended!
Kelly Yang
A great place for big group gatherings with lots of yummy options for sharing. Very friendly staff too. My favourite are the round beans with black olive, shrimp dumplings and sizzling black pepper chicken!

One of the best restaurant i have been in Auckland. Excellent food and service and the price is reasonable. Will definitely recommend to my friends.

Popped in for a casual lunch, didn't have a booking. Consistently good yum Cha, good no fuss service. $50+ for two.. 8 dishes.
Miller Guirguis
We always go there for lunch. very yummy food and food is always fresh. the owner is a lovely lady with a smile on her face all the time.
Sandra Hall
Beautiful yum char. Clean and the taste is very fresh. Have been going there since they opened and never had a bad experience!
Avryl Kinnon
I highly recommend their yum char! Everything was so fresh and tasty and the staff were very friendly and professional! Loved it!

Easily the best Chinese restaurant in Auckland. Friendly and professional staff, awesome food and reasonable prices. I am a huge fan of the Chinese cuisine and I've tried many restaurants in Auckland, but Canton Flavor is my favorite. I must point out that their Hot and Sour Soup is the best I ever ate, it is just perfect. You must try out if you don't mind spicy food.

We have eaten here since the Albany yum cha shut down, it’s even better than that one. We go back because of the amazing service, exceptionally clean eating area, and of course, the beautiful food. My family and I are a bunch of all sorts with differing opinions on almost everything, the one thing we’re all united on is our love of this restaurant. I recommend this to anyone who wants a genuine taste of great Asian hospitality and food!
Ben Teauraki
A very good meal served and the staff were prompt and language wasn't a barrier. A great range on the menu surprisingly the Wine List was better than many of seen in Chinese Restaurants
Raywing Lee
nestling at the back of the old Silverdale village with a balcony overlookng the scenic river, the restaurant offers an authentic asain cuisine, with yum char in the lunch time, and dinner from from 5 30pm. Its fully licenced with indoor and alfresco seatngs. the service is good and the food tastes yummy, price affordable . great place to visit . Ray

Food was amazing and and host was attentive and friendly. She responded to our desire to alter a dish to our taste and provided a separate sauce and bowl of seasoning as an alternative which was a new flavour sensation for us. We have previously been to Pearl Garden in Newmarket , Hees Garden in Mt Eden , a large yum cha restaurant near Botany , and another large new yum cha restaurant in Albany. Canton Flavor is far away better than all of these in food quality and taste but also in customer service. We have been twice in a week now and can't wait to introduce family and friends to Chinese food at its best !
Lewis Isaacson
Great food, great service. Will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends
Tracey Russell
Loved this place.. from the South Island (Picton) exceptional service and beautiful food.
Nicole Phua
Most authentic Chinese food I have had in Auckland so far! Great service too! Def value for money and a great place to bring ur friends. :)
Emma Coupe
Nice family lunch. Great service. A little more expensive than similar restaurants in Albany, but still good value for a big group. Ice cream balls were something new, but very tasty.
Jeremy Winer
Excellent food and service. We go there for Yum Cha at 3 times a month. Also the Peking duck is delicious! It's great having this quality close to home rather than venturing into the city.
Alex Harris
We love it and bring all of our family here all the time, delicious authentic Cantonese yum cha
Sarah Simpson
Gorgeous food and such lovely staff. It's the only Chinese restaurant we can go to now, as nothing else compares.
Eve Stevenson
Best Yum Char this side of Sydney!! Loved our meal today
Clive Dutton

Review is just for the yumcha buffet. $25pp for fresh, authentic yumcha dishes.

Loved:
- Range of steamed options, not just carb heavy food
- food was served promptly and service was really good. Super friendly and happy to make to order if what you want isnt being served at that point of time
- the sticky rice!!!
- the fact that the buns etc were small so you could try a bit of everything

Didnt love
- not served or offered tea
- they dont clear dishes whilst you eat so they just keep piling up
- its 55 minutes away from home😂
Chen Mark
Nice and clean Chinese restaurant. Good service. But if you are tracing some authentic fine dim sums or Cantonese cuisine. It might somehow disappoints you.
Huiqin Zhou
His food is too expensive, and the taste is normal. The size of the refreshment is getting smaller and smaller, making it unacceptable
Samuel Hohepa
Amazing staff l, amazing food and really great environment. Would recommend anyone to come here. Best yum cha in Auckland.
Lucy Kong
Food and service at Canton Flavor are always excellent. It is always our favorite dim sum place. Just found out they have $25 dim sum buffet on Tuesday night. Will definitely try!
Hashani
Very disappointed! Worst Chinese I’ve ever tasted. Chilly chicken was $25 tasteless and under cooked. Not worth the money and not recommending this place to anyone.
Heidi Chapman
Accommodating, friendly staff with delicious food!! We were so satisfied with what we ate that we regrettably didn’t have any room for siu mai (my mum’s favourite!) Will be back to use my Zomato Gold again!!
Jan Jan
Very friendly and welcoming staff who explained what we can order on the menu using Zomato Gold. Food was delicious and fresh. Definitely will be back.
Robbie Reyes Daly
Awesome service and my new favorite Asian restaurant in the Coast.. Food is sooooo beautiful and yummy. Customer service was outstanding as well.
YEe LiNg
First time enjoy Zomato Gold at this restaurant , the crab meat and sweet corn soup taste good ! Also ordered salt and pepper tofu and sweet and sour fish fillet , the portion was good and taste pretty average. The service was friendly and prompt
Jeanette Medina
One of the best dim sum in Auckland I’ve been to. The dumpling menu is extensive and the food was excellent and really fresh.
Great dim sum, as expected. You're there to eat good food and have a different dining experience! Excellent food and flavours. Service is surprisingly good.
Quattro Alas
Excellent food and really good service by the lady who served us. We had 4 dishes and all were really nice! Even offered free dessert for us to try. I highly recommend this place.

Bonus: parking is easy.
Ivy Pan
Very delicious!!! Yummy Yumcha😀This is the best Yumcha restaurant I have ever been. The environment and service are good as well. Like it!! Well done!!
Chris Xu
My favorite Chinese restaurant, always fabulous food and nice staff. Very comfortable environment feel like home. I love this place and food so much, cannot wait to go back again.
Jonas Kuhn
Quite authentic Chinese food. Don't only have Canton style, but also many Sichuan flavored dishes. Good for yum-cha & 'normal' eating out. Very friendly staff. A bit more on the expensive side.
Hui Feng
The food was fresh and the staff were very friendly and the food was delicious and the environment was very excellent. We will come back soon.
Angela Fu
Loved the food there, especially the dumplings and buns. Really liked the pan fried pork buns. The panda buns looked adorable, the paste in the bun was very yummy. The staff there was also very friendly.
Rachel Goodchild
LOVE going here with a large group and ordering ALL the things. Crispy pork is great. Love all the food. We've done yum cha a few times too - find it a bit hard to avoid carbs.... but fresh and delicious. (yum cha not great for vegetarians
Maho Miyamoto
It was my favorite yum cha restaurant at silverdale close to my house. But after orewa branch opened, the price of foods became expensive. Very sad... definetly will not be back.

after seeing many rave reviews about yumcha in this place, we came here for FAMILY DINNER with a big expectation to celebrate mother's day. it turned out to be a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT for us especially for our mom. we waited for 30-40mins to get our order taken and it took almost the same time for the first dish to come out and a similar delay for the next one to come out. the star of the night was the soft shell crabs, but everything else just average and the portions are also quite small (you could get something tastier and less $ somewhere else). and to our surprise they managed to run out of normal steam rice for the night ! INSTEAD they offered us FRIED rice. hello ??!! you need rice to make the fried rice !! i heard them kept saying "SORRY" and "SORRY" to many other tables around too - obviously ppl also wanting some more rice to go with their dishes, and yes they tried to push FRIED RICE too to other tables. how could a restaurant run out of rice on the busiest night (saturday night - Mother's day) ???!!!! i think based on my experience, this place keeps a float by their yumcha services and their isolated location, otherwise they could have closed down many moons ago. again, this was not just happen to me, a lot of other tables on the same night also experience the super slow service and unable to order some more steam rice. sorry, but i definitely will NOT be back.

Genuinely great quality, authentic food at very reasonable price. Yum Cha lunch and massive dinner variety, would totally recommend and would certainly come back again.

Rated 3.5
Food is great but selection was not that many and service is a bit slow. The prawn toast was so delish I can have 10 of them for myself. Other dishes were okay for me, siumai is a bit dry, would be nice if they're a bit juicier. Prawn dumplings are nice but the wrapper is a bit wet from the steam and broke apart easily. Might try them again when around the area.
Stephen Day
Went to visit there with my family while we were in orewa for the weekend. The food was tasty but the service was a little slow. The staff were friendly but they could have done with one or two more staff. We had one of the banquet menus which consists of one entree, four mains, Chinese tea and a desert which was good value. We ended up getting another entree and three more deserts and had a couple of drinks. The final bill was $88 which was good value

Yum Char is one of my favourite types of food... To find an exceptional Yum Char restaurant is rare. Canton Flavor make all their our food from scratch... everything is made daily... Their chefs are incredible. The dumplings are light and full of flavour. Only the best ingredients are used.

The Prawn Dumplings and The Coriander Dumplings are exceptional. Generous in portion size and so fresh. The Deep Fried Combination Meat Dumplings are simply heaven.

I have taken 3 different sets of friends to this restaurant and they all have left with rave reviews.

I have to drive 45 mins to get to this restaurant and frankly I would travel further!!!

Nice location and atmosphere, definitely yummy dishes and varieties of choice. Maybe only little bit expensive than usual yangcha but it is acceptable.

Love the Eg Fu braised noodles! Will be Coming here every weekend now, nice comfortable feel inside, great service with a smile and very friendly staff!

We were here for Yumcha and had several typical dim sum like Shaomai, chicken feet, dumplings etc.. Nothing too special but I did like the coriander dumpling. I've been to so many yumcha restaurants and this one is to say average. The thing I disliked the most was the table! It's not supposed to be used as a lunch table cauz it's a Mah-jong table!
Stef.j.smith
Excellent yum cha. Dinner is good too but a little expensive. Ambience could be better. Just needs a few touches here and there to make it look nicer and appeal to more customers.

Food - B
Ambiance - B
Service - A
Price - B

We had yum cha for lunch. Food needs spice and a bit of seasonings. The meat needs more time to be soft and tender. The siomai serving is small.

The place was crammed. There are no enough spaces between tables.

Although in general the service and most of foods were great.

If you have tried here you will not want to go to Grand Harbour or Grand Park those said first tier Chinese Yumcha place!
Good service! Good environment, not so many people here not sure abt weekend as tried on Monday. Great food! Will definitely come again and recommend to those who hv never been here.
Vik Singh
This place was recommended by my work mates. So well i tried it out over the weekend for yum cha .... must say food was good ...service was slow but I can live with that .... as long as the taste is good .. will recommend to others ..

Being the first day of Chinese New Year today, we like to have Chinese for lunch (or brunch rather). Been here for dim sum lunch twice or three times before.

When arrived, restaurant was almost full. The services was still quick, efficient, helpful, and most of all friendly.

We sat at the outside area. Since today was quite warm and they didn't have air-con or fan outside, we felt quite "warm" sitting outside.

Different dim sum came out quite regularly. That's good. If they haven't brought out any food that you wanted from the menu, you can always put an order through, and they would cook it straight away. That's also good. However, the dim sum that we have tried were just ordinary, nothing to wow of.

So excited to have a good Yum Cha Resturant in our local area.

We came here for a Sunday family lunch. The service was good and the food was amazing. The dumplings, dim sum, chicken nibbles, sesame balls and ice cream balls were all good.

My two children went from complaining about having to go out for lunch to raving about the food and nagging me to promise to bring them jback.

The total price, at $119 was a bit more that we would usually spend on lunch, but it did include a LOT of food and drinks for four people and even a bag of jasmine tea to take home.

Sorry about the pics of half eaten food, it was so amazing we couldn't stop to take photos.

Just wonderful. Food is amazing, staff friendly. We have been to this restaurant many times and we will be coming back that is for sure. Thank you

Been there many times with friends and family. The food is always really good. Waiter and waitresses are always attentive and warm. Food are fresh and warm. Easy to find parking.

We took a visitor from Brisbane who wanted to have yum cha. We told her that we had been before and it was good and we were not let down. Its great to have a high quality yum cha place in Silverdale. The service was quick & attentive. The minute we sat down a wide variety of steaming hot dishes were on our table. All the food is excellent. Love the coriander prawn dumplings, the beef tendons tender & delicious. Try the sesame covered balls with black sesame paste inside. Can recommend and we will definitely go again.

Been here twice for dinner and both experiences were good. Best thing about this place is the size of the dish - generous for such great prices! My favorite was the half serve Peking Duck, delicious! I had Ma Po Tofu here, which was okay but I think it's one of those dishes that vary a lot depending on the chef, or which region of China you're in? The Ma Po Tofu I had here had what I think is the salty black beans, which I am not too fond of.
Adam Miller
Really good yum cha using great ingredients and always fresh. Owner is really nice and very humble. Out of all the yum place between silverdale and the city it is in my top two. Shanghai style pork buns are the best!!
Emma
I've never written a restaurant review before, but I was so outraged by their service that I decided to post a review to warn other diners.

This is my third time visiting the restaurant, and I always ordered the same thing - pekin duck.

I went with my family of four to celebrate birthday, and ordered a whole pekin duck, $48, two soups at $12 ($6 each), and the second course for pekin duck which is extra $8.
We didn't order any drinks and they served us the standard jasmine tea.

The nightmare started when they served the second course. Previously they served "shredded duck" - that's what it said on the menue last time too - with lettuce and it was well seasoned. This time, they served something completely different - stir fried duck with bean sprouts. My sister couldn't eat anything as she is allergic. No warning was given and when we asked the waitress why the dish was different from last time, she said "You have to let us know beforehand if you want what you wanted last time. This is what it says on the menu - shredded duck." It was shocking. They served something that was conpletely different from before and did not tell us. My poor sister couldn't eat anything due to her food allergy to bean sprouts.

Then the final blow came when we went over to the counter. According to the menu, the total should have come to $68. However they charged us $77. Why? Because they decided to charge $4 for the standard tea and $5 for the tiny, tiny (may I stress again, TINY) amount condiments (sauce and a few pieces of spring onions) that comes with the pekin duck.

Well, it ruined the birthday for us and here I am, writing the review on my way back home.
Imperius Malekith
Been here for lunch quite a few times. Really enjoyed the barbecue pork buns and pineapple buns. Food arrives quickly and is still warm. Found the roast duck and some other dishes were far too salty for my liking, and a bit oily. Is basically a cheaper, closer yet slightly worse quality version of Grand Harbour in the city.
Adrian Rickards
Joanna and her staff decorated our tables beautifully with many personal touches. Nothing was too much trouble throughout service.
The courses came in fast succession and were very varied. The roast duck and pork crackling made a big hit as did the prawn dishes. Vegetarians were well looked after too.
Try the ice cream and enjoy a surprise and try the tea ready in a pot at your table; most of us missed it ; China tea is the perfect accompaniment.
We can't wait to return and try some of the dishes that we missed.

s
Nick
Had a great lunch there today. Only annoyed that we haven't been sooner. The food was great with good service. We had three kids with us including a baby and this wasn't a problem. Price was very reasonable too. Will be back soon :)

I love yum cha and duck and really happy this restaurant is so close the roast duck is the best I've had in Auckland...springrolls and prawn toasts awesome...blackbean beef rice noodle is delish...the yum cha is fantastic great variety and really good I come for lunch quite a lot very clean and great service.
Clint Jacka
Three adults one kid.
Table to small for four, but venue was clean and service was good and friendly.
Ordered mixed veg, duck skin pancakes, 3combo meat, stir fry noodles n shredded pork..also deep fried bun appetizer.
Duck was nice, mixed veg i didn't enjoy, combo meat wasn't good being honest..duck with it good, but bbq pork was hard and dry and roast pork was the same..and for 38dollars,felt quantity wasn't enough.
Duck skin pancake's was also abit expensive for what you get.
Overall i think meal was ok,but felt that for price it was lacking..however the menu is large,so perhaps its a matter of ordering the right thing.
We will go back and try the seafood and other dishes..hopefully by then, the waitress that's clearly learning, will know how to pour a beer, practice makes perfect.
Janine Henderson
Great to have a decent Cantonese restaurant so close! Great dishes. With a nice atmosphere. Would definitely go again and perhaps next time try the lunch time yum char menu.
Krys Keogh
I love that we have a yum char restaurant on the coast. The dishes are typical yum char that you find in the city so no need to travel over the bridge any more. The prawn toasts are gorgeous and you if they dont seem to be bringing a plate aroudn that you love - ask the waiting staff, they are friendly and very obliging. Prices are great - around $10-15 per head on average depending on what you choose.
Nicholai Ebert
Fantastic food. Best Chinese in Rodney. Compares well to the best ones in town. Do an amazing yum cha also. A must try. Services is polite and welcoming.
AngeLi
So good this restaurant! Love their siomai and love their pork buns. We've been here twice and it's always a good experience with their tasty food and excellent service.
Hannah Bylo
We have been here twice, both times were fantastic food, very friendly and helpful service. our 12 year old loves it! So great to have yum char up this way. It's a new favourite, thanks canton flavour, you're doing a great job! See you soon :-)

Still the best!

My previous review;
A great Chinese restaurant in Silverdale. Love their yumcha menu (from pork shiu may, deep fried squid tentacles, bbq pork bun to their pudding, almost all menu are great to us) and dinner menu as well. As a bonus: the people are nice. The only thing that concern me is the usage of styrofoam for takeaways (especially when it's a hot and oily food). Although maybe some people don't mind at all. This will be a regular place for me to buy dinner (probably every Monday - when they serve yumcha for dinner as well).
Rachael Quayle
Considering they have been doing Yum Char for only 3 months they are doing a great job. We will be back for sure. A few dishes not as great as usual yum char places but on the whole we were super happy. Kids LOVED the icecream balls...
Cheryl
Having yum char here. Excellent food. Just like being back in Hong Kong. Definitely coming back😀 Food delicious, authentic, spot on, popular, friendly attentive staff.
Andrew Maccallaugh
My wife, myself and two friends had dinner here at the Canton Flavour, and we were NOT disappointed, the service was brilliant, the food was wonderful, I had the peking duck, my wife had the lemon chicken, Wife whos is not a fan of duck tucked into mine as did I, Best one I have ever had, Wife rated it as the best Chinese meal she has had aswell, our friends were also delighted with their choices, have since been back for yum char, Again beautiful food great service!! We will be frequent flyers at this restaurant, if our first two visits were anything to go by, Highly recommend it...
Fries With That
At last an authentic Chinese Restaurant on the coast!
Went on opening weekend for yum cha and it was extremely busy, some dishes were really good, some not so good, tried the takeaway recently and what choices I made were average, so may need to revisit and choose one of their specialties. I'm hesitant to give an average review as I wan't these guys to succeed, as their is nothing like this restaurant on the coast, mostly fish and chip bars selling Chinese, but the experience so far in the food area has been average.

On the positive side, the service is fantastic. Will try again sometime in the future.
Rachel.goodchild
Amazing food - had a large number of people booked in and all were impressed. Will go again. Recommend everything really! The roast pork is best in auckland I reckon. Chilli chicken yum! Great value, fresh, so good
