Review Tok Tok Kitchen - Takapuna

Nahed Alhaj
The cocktails are so so good. Super yummy food, love their lamb bits. Their meals are really big, we usually order 1 big and 1 small to share The stuff are very nice and helpful

Tasty yummy food, fast friendly service. Glad we went for our work dinner. Got a pork rib starter and half crispy duck main + rice + beer. Asked to bring it all at once. I was full once finished. Note : I had already started eating my dish(es) before I snapped this picture.

Had a work dinner with the fabulous crew on a Monday evening and they ABSOLUTELY rocked!! Our gorgeous server (Ashley) was a super star, wicked chat and super fast on those cocktails!! The rest of the team were on firrrre also šŸ”„šŸ’ƒ Tok Tok blew it outta the park!! 10/10 would recommend a visit to this awesome place šŸ˜€

Great service, delicious food, can see why itā€™s always busy
Jayshree Dastracey
Food good. However the duck dish was horrible. Wont be ordering it again. Too pricey and too noisy. But would recommend just dont order the duck dish.
James
Really good food here, I loved every dish that I ordered! Good atmosphere and very nice interior suitable for all occasionsšŸ‘

It's always a pleasure to dine at Tok Tok. Great atmosphere & service. Love, love, love Tok Tok. The popping prawns, tossed greens, miso eggplants, and the most amazing pandang tapioca pudding dessert are not to be missed.

Our family visits this place often. Above all, we are satisfied with all the food, but I felt that the food potion was much less than last time on this visit.
Lily Liu
Location and the atmosphere is awesome. The food was great and plate display was very nice. Might be due to during holiday season staff was on leave, the staff who was working then a bit in a rush.
Joyce low
Delicious! Totally enjoyed and love the dishes ordered. Friendly and fast services by staff.
Maggie Hartley
Great for our family Xmas lunch today. I found it a tad noisy where our table was - on the verandah. Being on a busy intersection on a Sunday in Takapuna was a tad noisy for this old girl. My family loved it and have dined there before. Foodwise - we chose numerous small dishes that suited everyone. Nine of us there.

Great food with most amazing and unique fusion I have tasted. Kingfish Sashimi was the best of all. Lamb bites are great too. Good ambience with friendly people. Will definitely go there again!

I donā€™t think itā€™s necessary to sugarcoat the lamb to signify its tenderness. Itā€™s too sweet to be honest. Instead of mixing textures, I may be impressed if the more effort can be put on the temperature of the sauce in the place. Crispy duck tastes nice. Slightly disappointed by the papaya salad given I can barely find papaya. More fish sauce needed please. You may also with to put some fried shallot.
Dana Young
Great lively atmosphere. Food was decent and seems like they have changed a few items on the menu since last year ! Came here the second time and food was much more delicious ! The sauce for the squid was delicious although the squid could be crisper ! The kumara lifts the sweetness of the beef cheek curry and fried rice was very fluffy and soft. Would come back with friends.

Loved the high energy from the moment we walked in the door! Arrived today from Sydney and found this buzzing little place on the corner. Staff were incredibly friendly & enthusiastic- especially the guy with the beard at the door. Food and cocktails were delicious!! Definitely worth visiting if youā€™re in the areaā€¦ absolutely loved šŸ˜ƒ

This is an upscale Asian fusion restaurant in Takapuna. The location is great, nicely decorated and lively vibe. The service is quick and friendly. If you want a quick bite with drinks, this is a good place to go to. If you want a full meal, then go for the mains which are larger in serving. The style of food service is sharing plate so it's good to order a variety. The stand out are the dumplings and popcorn shrimp. Desserts also available. This restaurant has a bar, the drinks selection is extensive, mocktails also available. The restaurant is huge so good for large group, booking is recommended though. Our visit was Sunday lunch so it was quiter than usual and we are a big group with children. All in it was a good experience.
Dani Fox
Amazing food, every dish is super tasty. We always order too much but manage to fit it in because it tastes so fab! The cocktails are so good and are hard to stop at one.
Renae C. Greenman
Love this place! From the outstanding service to the delicious food to the gorgeous atmosphere, Tok Tok is a total win. A memorable dining experience all around. Itā€™s the type of place you go to celebrate a special occasion. We were really impressed with the Sizzling Beef main, the meat was masterfully prepared and succulently tender. Beautiful cocktails and great wine list too. Iā€™ll definitely be back!

literally insane. the small bites menu is genuinely the best appetiser menu i can think of. the sashimi is life changing and i crave it constantly, and the wagyu bun is such good value for money, extremely tasty. highly reccommend!

Cant wait to go back again!! We had the popping prawns, Kafier Lime chicken, shaking beef and duck salad with rice on the side. Even though it was busy staff were very attentive and nothing was an issue. If you dont like spicey food, sharing small dishes or a busy bustling resterant then this is not the place for you. Quality of food was amazing.
Sophie Hutton
Table service was shocking. Staff didnā€™t understand the menu and seemed disinterested. We waited almost 2 hours for food to arrive. Staff did not come back to table to ask if we wanted drinks etc. when the food did arrive... what a joke. The food we ordered did not at all match the description of the menu. My partner and friends felt the same. Staff didnā€™t ask how are food was they just continued to chat to each other most of the night at an empty table. Extremely disappointed as I had heard great things. Will never be back.
Bob Thomas
An absolute treat! The wait staff are really friendly and caring. The food is delightfully Asian with a " fusion" that actually works. Can't wait to be back. Thanks so much!

One of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. The sauces were layered and exceptionally well balanced. Spicy without being *only* spicy, top notes and bottom notes, complex and yummy! We shared between 4, which is perfect, you need a good number of people to share a good number of dishes.

We had special dinner to celebrate my son Nic b'day..the place was cozy, services so quick and full of hospitality, and the foodies were all delicious...credit to the crispy duck main..really had a good time there..all worth itļæ½ļæ½

Great great food and atmosphere. Havenā€™t been in NZ FOR 10 years and food is equal to anything Iā€™ve been to in Aussie.
Karen Nunes
Today we had the most delightful lunch. We were a group of 4. 3 of us chose 4 small plates to share and my husband chose the fish curry. Every dish was super tasty!
Rex Chen
Thai fusion food, must try shaking beef and roti dessert , must try this place if you like something exotic
Gizmo Boy
Highly recommend going to Tok Tok, thoroughly enjoyed our evening out.
Paul O
Without doubt, the most disappointing meal I've had in a years. Shockingly bad service, 6 of us squeezed into the smallest possible table even though we had booked in advance and it was half empty. Pad Thai missed the mark completely, no texture at all. Fish curry was average but for the price charged, unacceptable. No sign of our pork belly and had to plead with the staff not to charge for it. Absolutely ridiculous. <br/>
Saiko
Very awesome customer service, especially from the Manager Rico! The food was superb, the hospitality was amazing along side of the friendliness of all the staff members. <br/><br/>All meats were so soft and melts every spoonful šŸ˜ <br/><br/>The vegan sweet potato dish was an awesome dish for some one whos into that stuff ā˜ŗļø <br/><br/>Excellent drink options from the bar, with cool bartending tricks šŸ˜‰<br/><br/>The dessert was such an awesome way to end the night šŸ™ˆ chocolate matcha Lava cake and the lychee tapioca šŸ¤Ŗ <br/><br/>Highly recommend coming to Toktok for lunch or dinner šŸ˜„

Loved the food. Good portion size.Nice ambience..Thumbs up

Have been here numeric times, love the environment, decorating and food, and sush a nice place for drinks too. But there's something impressed me the most, just found out last night... it's one of the dessert... Panden Tapioca, it's very delicious, the level of sweetness is just right, with a bit of coconut milk, lychee, and the cashew candy. Will definitely come back for this.
Bailey Moffitt
Always a pleasure eating here, the service is brilliant. We had a group of about 15 people at extremely short notice and they accommodated for us almost immediately with better than reasonable wait times considering. The food is always great. Crispy duck is a must have here. Although I was a little disappointed with the pork belly this time round as it is usually tender all the way through but was a little tough.<br/><br/>Overall you can't really go wrong at tok tok for good and fast service Asian fusion.
Ocean Komakula
Food was good, Tomyum Seafood Bowl was bit salty. Over all we like the food, but the service girls were so interested to come around to take off the plates from our table. Not able to enjoy the talk with friends. Not sure if their short on plates? Or just want to make sure we could order more.

An exotic asian fusion restaurant in Takapuna.<br/><br/>Service: 4/10<br/>When we entered the restaurant we stood at the counter and waited for the servers to finish talking before they served us.<br/>When they finally finished, they allowed us to choose our seats and brought us the menus.<br/>Itā€™s quite difficult to get the serverā€™s attention and we often had to stand up to get them.<br/>Most of the food, except the small plates, took awhile to be served<br/><br/>Food: 7/10<br/>We ordered the sticky pork ribs, crispy wagyu beef steamed bun, duck pad Thai, grown up lamb curry, littleneck clams and matcha chocolate fondant.<br/>The pork ribs are not very tender but at least it was a decent portion.<br/>The beef was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. <br/>The pad Thai noodles werenā€™t very authentic but it had a great flavour with a hint of citrus, and crunchy peanuts to top it off.<br/>The curry had a very strong minty flavour with a weak coconut flavour. The lamb was too good, it literally fell apart to the touch.<br/>The fondant was warm and gooey, which went perfectly with the ice cream. When you cut into it, the chocolate comes spilling out.<br/><br/>Ambiance: 9/10<br/>The whole place has a unique Hawaiian-chinese theme.<br/>There are aesthetic little lights lining the ceiling of the restaurant.<br/>The balcony area is spacious and beautiful, with plenty of sunlight shining through.<br/>The traditional Chinese cups were a little dirty but at least they were pretty.<br/>The plants contribute to the outdoor nature look.<br/><br/>Nothing special about the food but at least it looks good.
Shannon
Our waitress recommend the sweet potato pad seuw which was fantastic. Portion sizes of the mains were decent and the quality was top notch.
Kate Williamson
Excellent lunch here this week. Everything we ordered was superb. Stand outs were the eggplant and tofu curry and the vegan free curry. Both portions were huge! We had the shaking beef which as expected was juicy with its sweet and rich sauce. The crispy duck was maybe not that crispy and a wee bit hard to eat gracefully but was super tasty. The spring rolls were expensive and while they were huge they were possibly the only item that wasn't packed with flavour... We had all 3 and none was the favourite of anyone in the group. Great outdoor seating. Highly recommended, and ranks higher than madame woo for me.
Elsalute Chic
Papaya green salad might be too spicy for someone. Takapuna colada is really nice. Itā€™s nice to try the special main recommended by the staff. Crispy duck is not bad as well.
Alice B
Favorite spot in Takapuna! Delicious food and awesome restaurant. The wagyu beef steamed buns and popping prawns are to die for! Both are super tasty and it was a very generous portion of prawns! Also highly recommend the kaffir chicken and wok tossed greens. Good dumplings too. Fantastic cocktail menu, the chili margarita is delicious!
Karina
Had lunch here in the weekend and the atmosphere was so nice and I love the wooden letters on the roof that say 'TOK TOK'. I had the 'peach & passionfruit mojito' to drink which was nice but there was a lot of ice. To eat I had some vegan dumplings which were so yum and the vegetarian summer rolls which were fresh and filling. My brother had the beef steamed bao bun which he liked however my Mum that got the pork ribs and my Dad that got the crispy hapuka dry red curryĀ  said both their meals were so spicy and bitter, they didn't enjoy them.Ā  For sides we got rice, wok tossed greens and green beans and they were sooo yum I loved the veggies. The sauce on them was so good and they were full of flavour definitely the highlight of my meal!!!! Theres lots of vegetarian/vegan options but not a lot of chicken ones. Overall I enjoyed my meal and thought it was yum and would come back :)))
Sharon Louie
I came to Tok Tok with my boyfriend on a Saturday evening and the place was packed! They managed to squeeze us in, which was great! We got the lamb bites (excuse the blurry photo), the squid and the duck pad thai (forgot to take a photo because I was too excited). The lamb bites were so delicious! The spice level was perfect and I actually really loved the flavour. I felt like the sauces went really well with the lamb and I would definitely order this again. The squid was average, nothing really special about them, but still good! Lastly, I really enjoyed the duck pad thai, it was so flavourful and filling!! I would definitely come back next time and try other dishes!!

A thai fusion place in Takapua. Seems to be busy. Been here once, really enjoyed their food and thai beer. However, this place is a little pricy and portion size is a bit small.

I got to know this restaurant at the Taste of Auckland event which happened 2 years ago they have a stall at the event and I can still remember it was packed with lots of patrons. A couple of years later I decided to dine in at their Takapuna restaurant, I know its late but its better late than never.

Another Asian fusion for the books. After multiple recommendations we gave this little gem a try! Bookings were a must for a table outside under the marquee! We ordered the pad Thai and the duck! Full of flavor and style! This is a true winner for the shore!!
Heonjung Kim
Tok tok delivers new and fresh flavours that I cannot experience elsewhere! Their balance between authentic and fusion is just right. My favourites are the sweet potato pad seuw and lamb green curry. Good place for date night too!
Mya S
Delicious. I ordered the vegan yellow curry and I swear it was the most delicious curry Iā€™ve had in a long time. It was creamy, however had the taste of lemongrass and fresh mint intwined through. The meal did not come with rice so I ordered a bowl on the side, as well as some vegan greens (broccoli, courgette, almonds) shared with the person I was dining with. The service was also lovely - the girls asked a lot of questions and were always about to assist. I will definitely be back here to try more vegan options! (There are a few)
Debbie Lockart
Went in after a recommendation from a friend and I will be back.<br/>Friendly, helpful staff, great food (sharing plates), reasonably priced and great atmosphere. Can highly recommend the prawns, squid, satay chicken and Asian vegetable dishes. Be advised if the dish says chilli it really does have chilli

Crispy half duck and popping prawns are my personal favs here. Also the crispy Hapuka dry red curry.9/10! nice ambience and service! We were quite late to get our dinner but they still fed us !

TLDR: ambience 3/5, service 2/5, food 2.5/5. overall: don't comeĀ <br/>I chose this place based on the reviews and recommendations I've read by other people on Zomato and... this place fell well short of my expectations.Ā I went here for my birthday last October and we were quite a large group so we booked in advance. We were placed near the doorway and the lighting was not well lit so it was very dark and not great when you are trying to talk to others. I would assume the outdoors area would be better. The restaurant was quite full and I assume quite busy, so the staff were not very attentive at all. As many others have already written, the staff are quite unfriendly as well.Ā Now I thought the food would make up for it but the food was well below average. The food was very expensive for the amount of food you get. The taste was also lacking. The Pad Thai was too sweet and definitely too small to share.Ā The menu states that it is meant to be a sharing menu but I shared two of the "big plates" with 3 other people and it was not enough to fill me up. Others had gotten a "small plate" to eat by themselves, but it was too big. I acknowledge that the plates are not meant to come at the same time as the menus already mentioned but seriously? We had to wait like 30 minutes between the first dishes coming and the last dish coming.Ā Overall, would not come again. Those good reviews really had me fooled but anyone considering on coming here with a large group of friends...

Great food, service can let it down.<br/><br/>The flavours of every dish are fresh and vibrant, and the restaurant ambiance is awesome. The wait staff can be inattentive at times and forget some things that are ordered. I also find they often don't know much about the wine list and can't answer simple things like what would go well with certain dishes. The venue can smell quite strongly of the fish sauce that is prominent in the dishes - not a complaint but it could pay to leave your coat in the car if you don't want it smelling.
Micheal
Food is amazing<br/>But staff is unfriendly.<br/>Been there many times ,still fall in love with food but had many bad experiences with staff .hooe they can improve this service
Quinn Mai
It was packed when we arrived but we were looked after pretty well. Food was really tasty and I was in love with my 5 spiced pork belly. All the ingredients went so well together I felt like there was a party inside my mouth. A bit pricey but worth it.

I have been a regular here for a while now. The reason for a four star is cause the food is either a hit or a miss. We have tried pretty much everything on the menu so when we come here we know which ones taste amazing to have a great experience and meal. We always share plates here. The food is to die for if you choose the right thing. Definitely wouldnā€™t choose the dumplings as they are way overpriced and taste just like reheated frozen ones. Love the vege side, lamb bites (although last time was a bit dry) and love the bao buns.
Karen
We had dinner here and all dishes we ordered were excellent! There was a lot of people there so we had to wait a little bit and table wasnā€™t the best place but food was good. I will go back some other time:)

The Halong Banquet set menu was an excellent option if you would like to taste majority of their dishes. The Ruakaka Kingfish sashimi, Crispy Wagyu Bun, Shaking beef and the Crispy Half Duck stood out for me as it was delicious. The sashimi was bursting with flavours, the bun from the crispy Wagyu was soft while the beef has the right texture and well-seasoned, the beef from the Shaking Beef was tender and it just melts in your mouth and the crispy half duck was perfectly cook. The staff was friendly but the service was slow. Good ambiance and mocktail selection. Great dining experience for us.
Lyn Mcalister
Sushimi has chili hot sauce over & had told waitress we could not eat chili; they did replace with good plain sashimi in soySame dish had small pieces of grapefruit( discovered on asking) & sauce with the citrus juice: Chef & Waiting staff need to understand that grapefruit is contraindicated with several medicines... my friend was very upsetNice atmosphere but food has too many 'additions'

FOOD - we ordered the yellow vegan curry and sweet potato pad seuw. The curry was imbalanced and so overwhelming in flavour that we couldn't finish it - very heavy with sourness from kaffir lime/lemongrass, with no sweet, cooling and salty elements to balance it out. The pad seuw was our favourite, my only complaint would again be flavour balance and the rolls of rice noodle were a bit gluggy. Both dishes would have benefitted from the addition of tofu and nuts for textural interest.<br/><br/>SERVICE - a bit awkward, though friendly. Food came quickly.<br/><br/>AMBIANCE - lovely fit out, however our table was sticky and desperately needed a clean.
Meghan Kerr-Phillips
Everything I brought was utterly worth it. Often when eating out, you come away thinking: d I really just spend this much on that!? At Tok Tok this was not the case. Everything was worth its price and more. The cocktail had a decent about of alcohol, exhistit taste and well presented. The steam bun was ambrosia, the perfect combination of meat, sauce and fluffy light bun. The curry was tasty as was the vegetables. There was a large group of us and everyone was satisfied with their menu choice. The Vietnamese coffee was the best one I have ever tasted. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. I was very impressed and look forward to dining there again.
Louisa Keely
Hi we love tok tok , but tonight was a little disappointing as we felt we were pushed through, all our meals entrees and mains came at one , we felt a little pressured to eat and gin. Sorry guys usually we love coming here , but tonight has put us all off coming back .<br/><br/><br/>
Charissa
<br/>The place is very spacious and a great outdoor area that is fully enclosed in winter. We ordered a few dishes and they were all delicious. The panna cotta was not quite set ,slightly watery but overall the food was great . Definitely Recommended!
ES
Loved the food here! It was slightly intimidating because of the amount of staff on VS the amount of people in the place but it was still an enjoyable experience. I will be going again.
Calvin
Tok tok offers a unique dive into asian fusion, their duck dishes are distinctively tok tok, I love their fusion of sweet and savoury! makes it a very pleasantly different experience!<br/><br/>Food- 8.5/10<br/>Service- 8.5/10<br/>Aesthetics- 9/10
Michelle Ma Belle
I have dined at a lot of different Asian fusion restaurants by now, but somehow, this restaurant still managed to stand out :)<br/><br/>First off, the interior decoration is absolutely stunning - I loved the warm ambience, wooden accents, lots of greenery, and oriental details.<br/><br/>The service was super friendly and efficient, the staffs would definitely make you feel welcomed :)<br/><br/>The cocktails were definitely show stoppers - the presentation was as pretty as a picture, and the flavours were super punchy! Worth the money!<br/><br/>The plates were designed for sharing - the sticky pork ribs were one of the best Iā€™ve had. The meat was tender, and the sauce was rich and decadent, and had a real kick! I was surprised at how much ribs we got as a starter. The salt & pepper squid was also tasty, especially with the tangy tartare sauce. However, I was slightly disappointed with how small the serving size was compared to the ribs.<br/><br/>For mains, we could not go past the duck pad Thai. It was delicious, and nothing like pad Thais Iā€™ve had before: the noodle texture was amazing and tasted really hand-made, and the chilli jam was to die for! <br/><br/>Even though we were completely stuffed, we could not resist the desserts. The spiced pana cotta with poached pears was lovely; and the matcha chocolate fondant was the perfect balance of textures and flavours - absolutely heavenly.<br/><br/>So, if Asian fusion is your jam, do give Tok Tok a try. Itā€™s by no means cheap, but perfect as a treat ;)

Yay... Finally got to try Tok Tok, Takapuna !!<br/>I have visited this place before and two times I had to go somewhere else as it was so busy and we weren't sure if it's worth waiting for.<br/>We tried two dishes here and it was worth it for a lunch... Specially when we wanted to eat something warm and fresh prepared.<br/>Perfect combination of herbs spices...<br/>For eggplant and tofu dish... Would be nicer to have an option for crispy/deep fried tofu.<br/>For pork dish... Taste was good..but few pieces were extra dry.<br/>Would still try again!!
Bright One
Our family went to there quite a few times because my brother-in-law is a big fan of the restaurant. We usually ordered multiple dishes and share. We had tried most things on their menu. Overall food is okay but not exceptional.Ā Some dishes are good, others are quite ordinary. Also I saw a decline of the food quality from the last visit.
Marina :)
Food: Friend and I shared the pad thai. Lots on the plate (but if youā€™re a hungry sharer then get something as well). Nice flavour but meat was a bit dry. Also had a friends vege summer roll which was nice but definitely needed the sauce it came with. Didnā€™t have any drinks. <br/><br/>Service: Speedy and polite. <br/><br/>Overall: Enjoyable experience, good for a special occasion.
Kathryn Ruth
Beautiful flavours, well cooked food, but there needs to be a warning on the spice levels! We ordered the beef bun, the pork and scallop dumplings, the ribs and the cloudy bay clams. All of them except the ribs were just too hot for me, Iā€™m a big fan of some mild-med spice and cook with chilli a lot at home, so I did my best to get through this meal but I left feeling quite unwell and had to make a milk stop on the way home to ease the spicy discomfort. My partner on the other hand loved it all, he was a very happy diner. Iā€™d still return but will search out the milder options on the menu next time!

Amazing food, especially loved the wagyu beef brisket. Great selection of cocktails and great service. Over all it was lovely night in a nice atmosphere

Highly recommend, 10/10, spectacular food, didnā€™t have to wait long, and relaxed atmosphere even though very busy with Mothers Day.<br/>Fast efficient and friendly service, <br/><br/>

Loved this place!<br/>Friendly service, we sat outside and the heaters there keep you toasty. Big space and very popular for birthdays for some reason, we saw about 4 groups of seperate 20-somethingā€™s having theirs birthdays lol.<br/><br/>We ordered like crazy because it was Mr Puddingcakes birthday and ever since little baby Cake came along we just donā€™t get to leave the house after 7 unless we are driving her around in a frenzy until she sleeps (I wish I was jokes)<br/>But tonight the gorgeous inlaws were babysitting so we hit the small plates HARD.<br/><br/>We got the beef steam bun which has crispy wagyu and this amazing spicy mayo and lots of delicious pickly crunchy things. SO GOOD.<br/><br/>Salt and pepper squid was ok, lamb bites were delicious they were crispy and spicy but so moreish I basically ate the plate.<br/>Popping prawns were great, everything is pretty spicy so just beware of that.<br/><br/>Then we gutsed it up some more with the beef brisket and quails egg and sweet/sour pork belly.<br/>Mr Cake luuuurrvved the brisket, which was falling apart tender in a spicy broth with lots of herbs and greens to fresh it up. The quails egg on top was perfection.<br/><br/>Sweet sour pork is a secret love of mine, and this was the fanciest version I have ever tried and was AMAZE. Sooooooo much flavour and the pork belly was beautifully cooked. Utter yum.<br/><br/>Then we decided to go nuts with Vietnamese coffee and share a chocolate matcha fondant.<br/>Ok so I donā€™t mind telling you that matcha is a flavour like salted caramel that makes me roll my eyes, because itā€™s everryyyywhere and usually not even that good.<br/>But this was NEXT LEVEL. So tasty and just the right balance of flavour. Yum.<br/>So in closing- loved it and will go again!
Warren
Wife has been numerous times before and has wanted to get me here, she finally got it right. Birthday dinner for her.<br/><br/>Menu is simple in selection but bursts with flavour. Grateful to have been there with someone who knows the portion sizes and thus can order accordingly.<br/><br/>We had 5 starters, all were excellent especially the lamb bites, beautiful little explosions of succulent lamb. Other dishes all had the life and flavour one expects with Thai food. Food: 90%<br/><br/>Little down side to me was house keeping: table was sticky and needed to be cleaned. Toilets felt really old, missing handle on tap. Wooden flooring uneven and a trip hazard. <br/><br/>Service: 80%, all staff polite and friendly albeit they lacked heart.<br/><br/>I would go again for the food.
Lisa
Tok Tok is a place that you can visit over and over, the food is delicious and well thought through. The flavours just work with each and every dish, balance, depth and freshness. <br/><br/>The best for me so far is the lamb starter, rich and yummy. While the duck main is sensational, always a pleaser. They match the fatty ness of the duck with a acid of the sauce. <br/><br/>Only down fall is service, itā€™s slow and getting the attention of the staff takes tactics and time.
Sarah Theobald
Really great food, pretty authentic for South East Asian cuisine. Loved the twist they do with their Pad Thai. Full of flavour. The service could do with some refining though.
Jay
The food was tasty, but they really messed up the service - with food coming out weirdly and one person getting their dish after the rest of us has finished ours. Also hard to determine serving sizes .<br/><br/>I think this place has a lot of potential and is nearly there, but just needs to do some minor work.
James Perrin
WARNING THIS RESTAURANT HAS A GRADE D HEALTH RATINGĀ <br/>Used to be our local family favourite until we discovered it received a grade D for 'pest control, unsatisfactory cleaning and poor food-handling practices'<br/>Will never return
Sophia Miller
food was quite nice but very rich and the seasoning was quite overpowering - I would have preferred the herbs had been finely diced. Also if the water bottles were bigger that would be great! Service was good and the staff were very nice šŸ˜Š
Jess Marsden
Tok Tok didnā€™t quite live up to the hype for me. I got the prawn poppers as a starter and was seriously disappointed. They tasted rubbery and over battered. My boyfriend got the pork belly pad Thai he said it was okay but lacked flavour. The environment was good and our waitress was very polite and efficient.
Hannah.milne11
Went here for a girls catch up and we all shared entrees and it was amazing! We had the shaking beef, crispy duck, pork belly, lamb bites and the squid. All dishes full of flavour and filled us right up! šŸ˜šŸ”„
Wapatino
I tried the lamb bites, summer rolls, and crispy duck. I did not like the taste/seasoning on the lamb but the texture of it was on point. I liked the summer rolls and the duck, I would totally recommend those two. <br/><br/>Service and ambiance were great!<br/>Would go back to try more things in the menu.
Zeth
It used to be our favorite place but I was very much shocked by the D grade hygiene. Definitely won't return until the hygiene situation is improved.
Smharpz
We came here for lunch and ordered a fair bit for just the two of us. We got the crispy squid, sticky pork ribs, dry Hapuna curry and sweet and sour pork belly. All of the dishes were incredible! Only thing holding it back from being a score of 5 was that our squid came out 20 minutes before anything else.
Abby
I love this place, granted it is always quite busy, I have always been happy to share the communal tables with others so have never been disappointed. The food is amazing, personally I have always just gotten a couple different small sharing platters and shared with whoever I went with but they are amazing. Probably my favourite restaurant.
PK
Went here for lunch on a very hot day.The outdoor area is nice. Cocktails were tasty which went very well with the lamb bites which was full of flavour.with chillies ,limes and coriander. The prawn poppers were spicey and yummy. The scollop and prawn dumplings had a hot, spicey , zesty ,minty! Had the molten chco chillie lava cake. Absolutely delicious which was worth the 15 minute wait.<br/>Staff were nice and tried to keep cool on a very hot day.<br/>We will be back to taste some more of the scrumptious dishes!
Sam Jones
We have visited Tok Tok several times and we have tried most items on the menu.Ā  The food and service are outstanding.Ā  The food has great flavour - Asian fusion with different sauces and spice combinations. Portions are of a good size.
Haoyang Feng
Been here twice with one year in between. Itā€™s a cool Asian fusion restaurant with an Asian fusion decor.<br/>The menu looks very fancy but most of the dish came out to be mediocre and some quite different from what I expected. The portion could be more generous, like most of the other Asian fusion restaurants. The taco was good, but in general the food is rather average.<br/>The service is good although slightly excessive for an informal restaurant.<br/>I might visit it again if I happen to be around but would not come specifically for it.<br/>

IWe have been wanting to try Tok Tok in Takapuna for some time as it has a very good reputation and receives stellar reviews. Well today we went and were certainly not disappointed. It was a fine day so we sat out on the patio deck in the very comfortable bench style seats, beside a lovely kaffir lime tree - great ambience. <br/>From the "small plates" menu we selected the Popping Prawns, Kaffir Chicken, Pork Steamed Buns, Lamb Bites and a roti. The lamb bites were amazing - succulent, with a chilli and spice crust, full of wonderful flavours that filled your mouth with fantastic tastes, and nicely complemented by the fresh mint leaves and dressing. We thought this was a hard act to follow, but the prawns were equally as good, being fat and juicy with a mouth-tingling crispy spice coating. The chicken also was delicious and tender, and full of subtle flavours. The pork bun (which was served last) was very good but overshadowed by the taste sensations of the other dishes. The roti was incredibly light and flakey and complemented the other food well, and was good for mopping up all their delicious juices. <br/>The staff were very good and the food was delivered very quickly. For so-called small plates we felt the servings were generous, and not unreasonably priced. Overall, the food and the ambience make this place a "must visit" if you are in Takapuna. The food is simply amazing, and hard to fault. Excellent!

Well, busiest night of the year possibly and need I say the service was IMPECCABLE!<br/>Well done Tok Tok. Going off recent reviews the service may have been the weak link however tonight the waiting staff stepped up big time. I canā€™t commend them highly enough, all my drinks were topped up and I barely ate. The missus smashed the kingfish sashimi, (fantastic), and from there the kafir lime chicken, prawn & scallop dumplings then th crispy duck. WARNING āš ļø do not come here if you donā€™t do spicy. Mild doesnā€™t actually mean mild here but fair enough, u donā€™t to maccas for fish n chips. the missus mouth was numb by the time we left but that just stopped her from talking for th rest of th nightšŸ‘. <br/>The flavours were sweet & vibrant , ingredients fresh and well cooked also plus a Great atmosphere to boot. <br/>Iā€™ll be back with the entire family next time. <br/>Happy new year Tok Tok.

Pop corn shrimp, kaffir lime chicken, salt n pepper squid....delicious.<br/>Been here 6+ times, food is consistent, service is getting worse, but food is great.
Blackpearl
Ordered quite a few dishes here when we came in recently, we tried their kingfish sashimi, popping prawns, kaffir lime chicken, shaking beef, pad thai, crispy hapuka red curry, papaya salad, roasted duck salad, wok tossed greens, 5 spice panna cotta and their pandan tapioca. First of all the ambience was nice, staff was friendly but the food themselves were a bit of a hit and miss for me. My personal favourite would be the hapuka curry, duck salad, kingfish sashimi and the shaking beef. Others were so-so, desserts were not really my favourite and I had much better cocktails elsewhere. But give it a try if you were in Takapuna and wants to chill near the beach.

Not my first time there but the worst!<br/><br/>Food was too spicy and it wasn't stated on the menu so we even could not eat it. Staff was not friendly at all and the service was bad. Probably not going to come back there

Finally got to try Tok Tok and I can see why it's hard to get a booking. A group of 6 and we had their Christmas banquet. Plenty of great flavoured fresh food. Good selection of wine especially my favourite white wine, Man O War Exciled Pinot Gris. <br/>Service was great. Only down side was the bathroom. I think 2 toilets for 100 people can be challenging with wait times. <br/>Will be returning very soon.

About half of what we ordered was great, the other half pretty average. For the price point to product/value ratio, probably wouldn't visit frequently. However, duck, pork chee, and choc fondant are amazing! I guess you could go and just order these 3 šŸ˜‚ read my full šŸ¤” on instagram: @rina.eats<br/><br/>Chicken tulips<br/>Super flavorful with a good curry flavor! Probably first time I've had fried chicken in a curry flavor šŸ¤” I like it!<br/><br/>Hot smoked salmon salad<br/>The salmon pieces were so tender and thoroughly flavored! And the selection of vegetables were light and crunchy šŸ’• and the round leaves - no idea what they are but the texture is so interesting!<br/><br/>Roasted duck salad<br/>Super delicious and tender duck! The duck skin was soft and fatty and so juicy šŸ’• I usually avoid any visible fat but I fully savoured every bit of this! The pickled shallots were so sweet, and I really enjoyed the balance that the sprinkle of nuts brought to this saladšŸŒæ<br/><br/>Crispy hapuka dry red curry<br/>We didn't realise dry red curry meant that it's curry flavor, served without curry šŸ˜‚ i'm rather ambivalent towards this one. I prefer fatter, softer fish rather than firm and denser ones anyway, and the curry flavor wasn't particularly memorable at all - in fact, what curry flavor was it?<br/><br/>Pork cheek red curry<br/>First of all, the garnishing on this dish is 11/10. The curry isn't super thick, which is perfect for the soft rice. The pork was also super tender and juicy and flavorful and everything you could ask of pork cheeks<br/><br/>5 spice panna cotta<br/>Flavor of pears and gingerbread were fantastic, panna cotta needed a fair bit more gelatin! Looks great for video (swipe left to see) but not as nice to eat šŸ˜… Bf thought the panna cotta had too much cinnamon, but I quite liked it šŸ¤” the pears also were almost close to caramelised? Idk, I like my pears super soft so it wasn't quite right šŸ˜¶ gingerbread crumbs were the only component with perfect consistency, light and crumbly and not dryšŸ’•<br/><br/>Matcha chocolate fondant<br/>Matcha isn't very strong compared to the chocolate BUT THE CHOCOLATE IS SO GOOD I DON'T EVEN CARE šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ the green tea looks good though, bright green and gooey ā¤ļø The chilli chocolate brittle is fantastic! Goes great with the icecream<br/>

Great food, very chaotic service <br/><br/>Iā€™ve been to Tok Tok a few times now, the food is always exceptional so we love to come back. Unfortunately I do have to point out that the service is lacking experience and / or proper management. <br/><br/>On my last visit last Friday we first got ignored as we entered the restaurant, after approaching the staff we got told the wait was 15 minutes so we happily sat down at the bar. After a few tries I finally got the wine that I was after (again, after having to actively approach the bar staff after a few minutes rather than being greeted as we sat down, and the bar staff really didnā€™t seem to know whatā€™s on their menu). It seems they then forgot about us as new people who entered the venue after us got seated before us, and after 45 minutes of wait one of the floor staff approached us and asked whether weā€™re just here for drinks or waiting for a table. This was clearly not managed well by the Maitre D. <br/><br/>As a cherry on top one of the service staff also accidentally poured a glass of bubbles over my entire outfit and coat. This happens, but the least a customer would expect in this situation is to be offered some sort of compensation, even if itā€™s just a glass of wine on the house. <br/><br/>Having said that all staff have been very friendly to us, they just really didnā€™t seem to have control over the situation. Most of the floor staff appeared to be very young so maybe proper training or more oversight from more experienced staff on the floor / bar would help. <br/><br/>Since the food is so great I will definitely give it another try, but I really hope the quality of service will improve in the future! <br/>

Had an amazing dinner tonight with my friends in Tok Tok, the food is absolutely fabulous! Our waiter is effective and friendly! Definitely one of the best restaurant in Takapuna! Thanks
Lucyeatsakld
Another trendy Asian fusion restaurant with great food. <br/><br/>On walking in to the sign that said 'please wait to be seated' we awkwardly stood for half a minute while the bar staff and wait staff stood around chatting until one of them looked up and said 'Oh! I have customers'....not the best first impression and I must say service was the factor that dropped my rating a few points. Our numerous waitresses were lovely and enthusiastic but service was a bit disjointed, perhaps needs a bit of oiling. <br/><br/>Food on the other hand was A+, I loved all the dishes we got - duck salad and beef brisket with roti. Everything was great for sharing. My only complaint was that both were really spicy (for my taste buds, perhaps just right for others) so I wish there was some indication in the menu. <br/><br/>

Very lucky to live locally to Tok Tok and has to be one of the best places to eat this side of the bridge.Ā  Food here is always fresh and spicy. The bao's, kaffir lime chicken, popping prawns and the Hapuka curry are our favorites but everything on the menu is good. Service is friendly but the only negative is that it feels very rushed. It is very busy so understandably tables need to be freed up but 1 minute after you sit down they want to take your order and you barely have time to finish your food before the bill is put in front of you.
Destiny Mackay
Food is full of flavour. Love how each item is so different. You donā€™t get bored of the menu. Only thing stopping from getting a 5 is I found the price to be quite high. But for a treat I donā€™t mind because I know the food is good.
Brooke
It had great ambience and awesome service from the staff. The food was great, especially the prawns and crab. The food was a tad expensive side however, and the portions were on the smaller side.
Thomas W
Tok Tok has nice fusion food, good staff and lively premises. Flavours are fresh and palatable, but missing a little bit of the incisiveness of real Thai food.
Marc Andelane
To start on positive note the service was excellent! Now it all goes down hill. First I ordered the grilled curry chicken - I don't eat fish and the sauce was full of fish paste! (Clearly that needs to made clear) The dish was returned and I ordered the shaker beef instead. This was probably the most disgusting dish I have ever tasted. The beef was inedible - chewy, under-cooked, gristly. My partner who is an experienced chef spat it out! Anyway we were offered some compensation. I have lived all over the world and have never experienced a night like this!
Laurie540
Shocking service. I booked a table for two hours and 1.5 hours in, the waiter came, dropped the bill on the table and asked us to leave because the next people were waiting. First time in my life this has happened. Second round of drinks was not offered, dessert menu was not offered, coffee was not offered. Since they can't be bothered providing decent service I won't be bothering to go back. Nothing special here.

I keep this simple<br/>Yum yum yum. Very cool cooking styles<br/>Went with work colleague's<br/>Look forward to going here again.<br/>Staff very attentive to<br/>

Situated on a busy corner in Takapuna, Tok Tok's specialty is modernised Asian Street food.<br/>It's a large space with inside & outside seating & an open kitchen. <br/>Service was very friendly but a little disorganised, like either no service or lots. Nothing in between. They were all lovely though & keen to help so I'm sure this can be sorted. <br/>The popping prawns were a stand out dish! Just the right amount of spice, and perfectly cooked - not overcooked like many places do. The bao was nice & soft, with okay flavours. Not my fave bao (& I love lamb), but good to try it. It maybe needs some texture or something crispy/crunchy in it. The kaffir lime chicken was nicely cooked with a generous serving.<br/>Looking forward to trying more of the menu next time

Really good service. I jsut dont like being oushed to order entrees when i clearly just wanted mains. Their food was great, a little too spicy for me though but I still kept eating it :)a little pricey too but good ambiance

Went here the other night and the food was amazing!! Not only does food make a good restaurant but so does the service and honestly Tok Tok's service was incredible. They were really attentive, without being annoying! Recommend this place 100%

Amazing atmosphere. Great service. Food incredible I love Asian fusion, everything incredibly fresh! So many vegan options. Highly recommend veg summer rolls, coconut and pumpkin curry. Unsure if 100% vegan on the dessert but the matcha flowing cake is LEGIT
GlutenFreeFoodie
Awesome food, menu is structured aboud sharing plates which I usually loathe being GF when others arent, but there was such an excellent range of GF options it wasn't an issue. Pricey but worth it. I'm looking forward to going again.

Arrived at 9pm and it was packed. Thought we would have lost our reservation as we were 15mins late. We were greeted by a wonderful waitstaff and taken to our table straight away. Nice atmosphere with lots of lanterns on the ceiling. We ordered lime chicken, tulips, pop prawns. Very delicious and filling. For mains we asked the chef if he could do chicken pad thai instead of the prawn, squid n pork pad thai. We were not disappointed. It was very nice. Desert was the chocolate fondant. Staff are attentive and very friendly. Highly recommend this place for fusion asian food. They have nailed it..

First time trying this place, expectations were high and it still blew us out of the water. We ordered the duck salad (with mangosteen) and wangyu beef, and they both came out delicious. The wagyu beef melted in in your mouth and the salad was really fresh, we also ordered a roti as rice is ordered seperate. For our finale, the chocolate fondant was great, and well worth the wait (takes half an hour to prepare). I would say this place is a very upscale kisskiss (dominion road) and would highly recommend it. In total it cost us $78 for the entree, main, salad, side, and dessert

Came here for a friend's birthday in a large group. Ambience is dim and intimate, was super busy when we got there. I absolutely loved everything we ordered! Especially the lamb green curry!! The Vietnamese coffee is also great! Would definitely come back again :)

The first impression<br/>Where bad service and overpriced food meet you find Toktok. This very large newly built corner restaurant in Takapuna boasts a Vietnamese Cuisine and authentic atmosphere and decoration to boot. I was a little perplexed by the canteen and camping melamine cups for drinking water from, especially since the cups were filthy and the water had hair and dirt floating in it. I didn't know why a green canteen that you would use while hiking the Congo in the 1800's would suddenly be Vietnamese but I must be missing something. <br/>The food. <br/>Let's see, it would have been great had the food not had copious amounts of chilli in everything but I suggest avoiding this restaurant if you're a mild. If you love your face burning off from chilli then sure this is a great place. Portion sizes were inadequate for the price paid. It would have been helpful had the waitress got either my drink order or my food order right... the flavors were completely overwhelmed by the intensity of spice. It made it inedible. Desserts are strange and at $16 far too overpriced. The food here is just NOT worth the money you pay. Head to the night markets for the same thing for a fraction of the cost.<br/>The service. <br/>This is where Toktok fell big time for me. A French waitress who didn't write anything down and barely understood us. My drink order was wrong. She misinterpreted my order and brought me TWO entrees not the one I had asked for. In fact my interaction with her was so confusing she left me wondering what the heck I had just ordered. Turns out it was multiple dishes... <br/>The design of the restaurant made it awkward for wait staff to clear plates and the whole tapas things doesn't work for the options on the menu. <br/><br/>Overall I was super disappointed. I'd heard such great things. I will most definately never be going good back. <br/>
Kathryn
The food was spicy, fragrant and delicious. Everyone at our table loved everything they ordered. I had the prawn and coconut salad and also the Hapuka. Looking forward to trying more on the menu. Our waitress was also lovely and very helpful with our many questions.

I found this place over priced for the size of the meals to be honest. The food is nice but I'm always left feeling hungry even after spending 50 - 60 dollars

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! I was seriously impressed with Tok Tok. The service and the food were amazing! <br/><br/>We booked online for 8:15 pm, but we arrived there super early. However they actually accomodate us and found us a table. Which was very nice of them. When we got there, the place was buzzing...<br/><br/>We ordered 2 small dishes the lamb bites and the kafir lime chicken. The lamb was tender and beautifully spiced. They were delicious! The chicken was to die for! It was like a party in your mouth! The galangal and the lemon grass flavour shines through without being overpowering. <br/><br/>For main we ordered the papaya salad, the hapuka, shaking beef and the pad seuw. They were all so beautifully made, I couldn't bring myself to chat during diner, i was concentrating on the food. <br/><br/>The papaya salad had the right balance of sourness, sweetness and spicyness. I love the crunchy texture of grated papaya, carrots beans and fried anchovies. I could taste the crab paste perhaps? <br/><br/>The hapuka was so tasty! I love the thick dry red curry sauce. The shaking beef was so juicy and tender. The pad seuw was so good! I love that they used the wide rice rolls. The char wok flavour gave the noodles extra fullness. I'm always a big fan of pad seuw compared to pad thai anyway.. so I might be biased. <br/><br/>We had the sago for desert. I wasn't expecting the sago to be cold. Most sago type south east Asian deserts are always warm, it actually took me off guard. It was good though. It wasn't too sweet, I would eat it all for myself if I wasn't so full.<br/><br/>I highly recommend TokTok! It is certainly one of the best restaurant in Auckland Yoana S

Food was really good, absolutely beautiful. The special venison dumplings were exquisite, and there was a really good range of meats and veggies to chose from. However, thought there was too many coriander leaves on everything, only so much coriander you can eat! Service was really good, friendly waiters, who could potentially be a little less over efficient with clearing up plates.

Came here on a Sunday night for a sweet and easy impromptu birthday dinner for our friend. Ordered the lamb bites, salt and pepper squid, sweet and sour pork belly and crispy Hapuka. All had such great vibrant flavours and were cooked beautifully, most dishes having a little bit of a kick to them which is right up my alley. Dishes came out hot and fast. Also had the Tok Tok Mary, great rendition of the Bloody Mary! Will be coming back ā˜ŗļø

Came here for a late dinner at 8.30.... still people coming in very busy. Huge place great atmosphere just noisy. Waiting for our table by the bar it's too busy. Luckily because it was getting late people were also going. Very attentive clearing dishes. We had: Popping Prawns-absolutely delicious bites ... Lamb bites-were ok... Pork ribs-yum... Salmon Taco-crisp fresh & delicious... Prawn Coconut salad-refreshing yum... Roti-fluffy yum... Wok tossed greens-fresh & crunchy .... will definitely be back. The only moan would be drinking the water from an enamel mug ... taste the metal.

A harsh rating given for a place that has such lovely tasting food but unfortunately this one is well deserved. We ordered 7 share dishes from the menu and only receive 4 and despite stating this a couple of times to our waiting staff. Apologies and statements that the kitchen was really busy did not suddenly materialise our missing food. If we had followed up for a further third time we would still unlikely have received our additional dishes in adequate time to vacate our seats by the end of our allotted time. The place was busy but I figure on busy nights management need to make sure there is enough staff on to cope. <br/><br/>Very ambient venue and the place had a buzz to it. The<br/>food we ate was super tasty and I would possibly give this place a second chance if I'm ever visiting Auckland again... possibly.<br/><br/>

Stunning food. Had the fresh coconut and prawn salad, which was surprisingly spicy. Delicious succulent dumplings with a soy caramel, and a beautifully fresh sashimi dish. I hope I get the chance to come back soon!

The food is great. Really packed with bold & strong flavours that will punch your taste buds out of the park. The papaya salad was my favourite but it was also the most spicy. I found myself gagging for water, but I couldn't stop munching away at it until the plate was clean. I LOVED the crispy anchovies in this dish, it was very unique and brave! The duck was okay, a bit overwhelming - the taste of Vietnamese mint. And the mushroom salad wasn't really anything worth raving about. I liked the seasonal greens more (broccoli & beans cooked in oyster-like sauce). <br/><br/>Woooah but the curry! Oh my my. This glorious curry! The pumpkin and tumeric curry was wonderful and warm with a generous serving of pumpkin. Roti was a perfect compliment for this dish. I found the atmosphere a bit stuffy; perhaps due to profuse sweating after the spice fiesta. Staff are friendly but the place is so hectic it's not the most amazing service. We probably ordered way too much for three people... walked out holding our food babies, but no regrets šŸ¤°šŸ¼

such nice and djfferent food there. Not like usual southern east food. we had shaking beef which is huge and tasted great. venison salad is fresh. Meat in it is tender, even vege are tasty. the chicken calm dumpling was just average and it's quite pricy, but luckily they are with a special sauce.

Cool venue with delicious food, amazing service, and (surprisingly) good value for money. I thoroughly enjoyed my group dinner at Tok Tok and am already looking forward to a chance to come back!<br/><br/>We started out with the salmon taco, which was delicious. Fresh raw fish stuffed inside a deep-fried taco ā€“ a beautiful combination of two of my favourite things!<br/><br/>Tok Tokā€™s beef bao was okay. I liked the sauce, but the meat wasnā€™t very substantial so the dish felt a bit flat as a whole. <br/><br/>The sweet and sour pork belly had the opposite problem: a generous amount of meat for sharing, but the sauce was a bit watery. I would say this dish is a safe option to go for when youā€™re dining with a group of friends who have mixed palates ā€“ so itā€™s not a total write-off by any means.<br/><br/>Unexpectedly, my favourite dish of the night was the vegetable curry. The sauce was so good that I sheepishly stopped the waiter from taking the bowl away because I wanted to scrape out every last drop.<br/><br/>Special mention must be made about the excellent service we received. Even though it was a busy Friday night, we found Tok Tokā€™s staff to be unpretentious, thoughtful, and accommodating to our (many) requests.<br/><br/>For 3 people, we tried 4 dishes and ordered a serve of rice each. The total ended up being $28.50 each ā€“ which is pretty good considering the quality of food and service. Keep up the good work, Tok Tok! šŸ‘šŸ¼

The food here is excellent! We ordered a variety of dishes. The beef brisket steamed bun, the red curry hapuka, lamb green curry and duck pad thai.<br/>I cannot fault any dish, everything was excellent my favourite dish was the hapuka red curry. I loved the crispiness of the fish and thr intense flavour of the sauce.<br/>Service was good but the girl who served us mumbled a lot so hardly understood what she was saying most the time. We sat in the glass area which was lovely on a sunny day. I will definitely be back!

This place has the most amazing roti and beef dish. I had an amazing eating fiesta. The main let down here for me was the waiting service. For me service is really important as part of the dining experience. If the food is great the service should be better, unfortunately this was not the case. I rate toktoks food, but I'd think twice about going back due to the crap service I was given.

My favourite Asian Fusion restaurant in Auckland! With so many restaurants sporting Asian Fusion meals on their menu's in Auckland, the competition is stiff. <br/><br/>The staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs, glasses were refilled with water almost immediately after they were empty and dishes were cleared off the table in the same prompt manner.<br/><br/>The decor and ambiance of this place is absolutely beautiful but the most impressive aspect of this restaurant is the food.<br/><br/>Popping prawns, Kaffir Lime chicken and Green lamb curry. The popping prawns are aptly named - intense Zingy flavour and crispy on the outside with tender prawn on the inside. The chicken was also very well balanced and full of flavour, the melt in your mouth lamb served in the curry was abundant and by the end of our meal I had fallen into a completely blissful food coma. <br/><br/>A huge plus for me was the portion sizes which were larger than I had expected, I could eat the starters without feeling like I could only get two bites out of them before they were over.<br/><br/>I definitely can't wait to return.

large space, outdoor indoor flow and loving the fusion vibes. Great atmosphere and great to have a drink and some sharing platters.<br/><br/>Service was warm and friendly but a tad slow. We ordered drinks and took a while to be served. Food however came fairly quick after a long wait to order, but I think we got another person's order! Ha! <br/><br/>Food wise, our crispy duck was delicious!!!!! Big portion for just the two of us. We also got the fish curry which was yummy but be careful of the small killer chilies. <br/><br/>Definitely enjoyed my meal!

Went here last night with a group of friends for a birthday dinner. The restaurant itself is really nice, outside is definitely where you want to sit and the inside is quite dark. <br/><br/>Our waitress was amazing!! I think her name was Juilet?? She was always there making sure we had plenty of drinks, water and that the food kept coming out at good intervals. So friendly as well!<br/><br/>The food was pretty good, we were on a set menu so for people that didn't like a particular thing it was a bit hard for them to eat. For example a couple people really didn't like chilli and it was in pretty much everything. The varying dishes were nice and came out at a good speed. <br/><br/>I would definitely come back but do the a la carte menu as I feel like it would be better to choose your own dishes

Went here for dinner for a friends birthday. From the get go service was sloppy. Having booked a week in advance and made them aware it was a birthday, I was surprised when they sat us down at the bar leaners, and had to ask to be moved to another table. <br/><br/>It was impossible to order more drinks and food, because the waitress walked away not once, not twice, but three times half way through ordering. Five minutes after finally placing our food order, we were brought out rice which sat on the table for fifteen minute before we could hail down another waiter and ask whether we were meant to have this rice at all. No, the waiter said, before promptly picking up the rice and plopping it down on the table two over from us. <br/><br/>Our first main and last main to arrive were twenty minutes apart, and throughout the duration of this time were checked on three times by different waiters before each of them got the answer that we would love to tell them how the food was, but we hadn't received half of it yet. Half way through our mains, we managed to hail down another waiter, and ask whether we could please have the rice to go with our now cold meals. <br/><br/>Being in hospitality myself, I tend to have a vast amount of patience for that fact that sometimes nights can be hectic, and sometimes you can be too busy. However, it seems that the service itself is just of poor standard, as the staff seemed either completely unaware that there were several unhappy tables (we could overhear a lot of other disgruntled guests), or they simply didn't care. <br/><br/>The sweet and sour pork belly tasted great though.

Bean there two days ago <br/>to be honest I don't understand why people still going there <br/>the food is very disappointed and look cheap but is not, you have to ordered 3-4 meals and of the end total bill is between $150 -$200 for 2 person<br/>

I have mixed feelings about TokTok.<br/>An Asian fusion restaurant in trendy TakapunaĀ with bright blue plates and military canisters for water jugs, it did not exactly scream "casual dining."Ā <br/>A group of friends and I reserved a table of 7 for early dinner and ordered a few things off the menu based on it would be shared as the place advertised. However be warned, this is not big price = big quantity but rather more complexities in flavor. The portions sizes were small to medium, not much to share from.Ā <br/>Presentation of food was very beautiful. I ordered the vegetarian pickle summer rolls as I wasn't particularly hungry to share with my friend and I. Ā My friends ordered bigger dishes and the ongoing theme was: big dish, the shallow height of food and a lot of garnishing with little sprouts.Ā <br/>The service is what made me feel less likely to visit again. The waitresses were annoyed when we did not order immediately and a few of our friends were running late and were waiting to order together. Their treatment was a little cold and seemed to want us to leave as quickly as we could if we weren't ordering anything else. We came on a Sunday late afternoon so I understand that they would be stressed and need as many tables as they could to seat the next customers.Ā <br/>TokTok: Not for students or professionals on a budget. The food is pretty, though your bank statement at the end of the night won't be if you eat here. High prices for lots of flavors but not a big portion size. Recommend for special nights or lunch on the fairy light covered deck but for your best dining experience on less busy peak hours such as after lunch rush on a weekday.
Lyn Templeman
Had dinner there last night, great space with a good atmosphere & very busy all night. <br/>For starters the summer rolls which were half chock full of some type of green salad leaf, totally unnecessary had better ones at Otara markets. Chicken satay however was delicious. Mains the tumeric coconut curry, was quite tasty, mushroom salad barely any mushrooms in it. The beef dish was lovely chunks of tender beef in a lovely sauce. We had been told dishes don't come out at once but suddenly they did so all these dishes on a pretty small table. Wait staff lovely & helpful. Have to say I was still hungry as even large plates are not very large. $57 later & left feeling hungry not sure I'll be back, not that it was bad food ok but other places better value for money.

I visited TokTok in a group of 4 without making a reservation on a Sunday afternoon. The place was almost full and we were told that we had 2 hours to dine on the table we were escorted to. We were absolutely fine with and we were more so glad that we got to stay and dine. The restaurant was vibrant, the staff were very friendly, and the table setting was gorgeous. The food didn't take too long to arrive. I was amazed by the portion sizes! I was further amazed by the taste of each and every dish! I am a pork belly fan and the sweet and sour pork belly didn't fail to please me. The duck pad thai was a little strong on the seasoning but was very good. The only downside to our experiment was that we were seated outdoors and I felt like I was getting roasted by the heat. I will definitely be back- with a table reservation requesting for it to be indoors. :)

Who can keep up with another Asian fusion eatery in the Auckland food scene! I have been here twice both times for lunch. Its a bit of a catch 22, it has a great outdoor seating which is perfect for summer, but eating dishes which are majorly curries it can be a bit of a hot sweaty mess. With more of a Thai influence to the menu, all the dishes are designed for sharing and are served when ready. I have now been here twice ā€“ must be a good sign that I came back after the first visit.

Amazing! this place is always busy yet we have always felt staff are always helpfull and on the ball and the food comes out quickly. Food is absolutely amazing and i love the plate sharing. this was our third time and we will be back again

Here for a lunch with friend, firstly impressed by the decoration. The bird's nest hanging on the roof reminds me of my childhood. Cup and water bottle were old military design, cool!<br/><br/>Very good plating for food, but came with some problem in tasting. <br/><br/>Beef brisket bun, could be better if sauce could be replaced. But still tasty.<br/><br/>Mushrooms salad, not much mushroom found, but the mixing is great. <br/><br/>Roasted lamb steak, tasting a bit dry. <br/><br/>Crispy half duck, should not have soup/sauce at the bottom of the plate, which compromised the crispy taste. The serve was big, good for sharing. <br/><br/>Duck pad Thai, good, different from traditional Pad Thai as wide rice noodles used. But it's a good innovation and combination with their mixing sauce on. <br/><br/>Overall, good service and design, superb dining environment with good drinking menu. Good innovation of Asian dishes but could be better if modified. <br/>

Everything is good! I ordered Manuka smoked salmon with curry which is amazing with Thai flavor! Really enjoy the food here !<br/>Very busy restaurant! Got drunk after having one glass of passion fruit mojito .....

Dined here on Saturday night and the place was already packed, booking is essential! Upon arrival we were seated promptly and all staff were very welcoming! Ambiance is beautiful (mix of old and new). We ordered 4 small dishes (2 summer rolls, lamb, squid) nice flavours very subtle and serving size wasn't too bad. We then had 5 large dishes plus 3 serving of roti and 3 bowls of rice (good for 7 people) larger dishes was also great, we really enjoyed the beef dish, green curry and Hapuka. We were not a fan of pork belly (pretty average and pad thai - for me it wasn't really a pad thai there was hardly any noodles and it was all sprout.) However I liked their roti (although some people might find it a bit similar to a pie pastry). Overall really enjoyed dining here, we loved the ambiance, service and the food was pretty good. Will be back!

The duck pad Thai was a surprising delight, served in a different way. It was delicious and the meat succulent. Fantastic service with smiley waiting staff and food arriving quickly. I'm planning my next night out at TokTok!

+ Absolutely delicious food<br/>+ South East Asian twist to your night out+ Nice atmosphere<br/>+ Attentive staff<br/>- Average, bland cocktail that is overpriced
Caroline Barrett
The food is absolutely delicious! I had the pad Thai and roti and was quite content with that. The let down of this place however is the service - very inattentive waiters to the point that we were waiting for a solid 45 minutes before anyone served us. Actually we had to ask to be served. To be fair the place is very busy though. They should probably look at increasing there staff.

Ever since sampling Tok Toks Brisket bun and Hapuka dry red curry at Taste of Auckland, we couldn't wait to head to Tok Tok in Takapuna and sample more of their offerings.<br/><br/>Saturday 17th Dec, with Christmas shopping done, a stunning summers day, it's thyme! Ā This place has a really neat indoor outdoor flow for seating. We were seen to promptly by a lovely young Asian fella. Ā A couple of glasses of chilled Kahurangi RosĆ© to suit the climate and a scroll through the menu. <br/><br/>We had to sample the Brisket buns and Hapuka curry again, I know I said we came to sample more of their menu but these 2 dishes we'd sampled already were just too good to go past, we ordered the pork ribs also. Ā A really neat touch here is the army style canteens the table water comes served in.<br/><br/>The ribs hit the table first, beautifully presented, swimming in a moreish sauce, the meat I think could have been a tad more tender but the punchy flavours made up for any lack of cooking time, lip smacking. The beef brisket buns were as good as we remembered from Taste, soft fall apart brisket, spicy Sriracha mayo, pickled cucumber and fried leek for added texture, melt in your mouth stuff.<br/><br/>The Hapuka Curry again was as good as we remembered, crispy pieces of Hapuka, a spicy dry curry sauce, crushed cashews and just enough Thai Basil and Vietnamese Mint to compliment the dish. I gotta say, with so many Asian fusion restaurants in Auckland, it's so good to see fresh herbs play a prominent place in dishes here at Tok Tok. It's such an important part of the cuisine that I think is too often overlooked.<br/><br/>3 small plates, one large sharing plate and 2 glasses of RosĆ© was just over $90, so not huge value for money but I can say that the quality of food, flavours and textures make it worth it.<br/><br/>Tok Tok has instantly become one of my new faves.

Been there twice now, once for dinner once for lunch. Great food, awesome decor and we had top notch service from the same guy, tiki tattoo on the forearm. A bit pricey but portions are really generous and quality is definitely there. Thanks guys, will be back!

Food was phenomenal. I'd recommend the Hapuka Red Curry, beautiful mix of strong and delicate flavors. Also really enjoyed the beef steamed bun. The siracha mayo is the shit. Great atmosphere and the the cocktails were well made. Only marked down as I asked for a Singapore Sling and was told they can't make that. Who TF can't make that.

Lunched here after a good friend of mine raved about this place. <br/><br/> And after sampling the menu I can understand the hype about this place. Beautifully set out restaurant. <br/> Staff are attentive walking around frequently, and lots of people dining. <br/><br/> We ordered the popping prawns, had great seasoning I wished they seasoned a little more because only some pieces where coated with the delicious salty lemony spice!<br/> Also ordered the chicken n clams dumplings, average dumplings and I couldn't taste the clams, the dumplings definitely needed the fish sauce for the flavour. <br/> Kaffir lime chicken was delicious! Great amount of flavour and sauce, chicken was beautifully moist and juicy!<br/>And for maims we ordered the duck pad Thai which was interest coming in rice noodle roll, it didn't resemble the typical pad Thai flavours but was distinct with the chilli jam!<br/><br/> I'd recommend if you're in the area if you're wanting to sample some good Asian fusion foods. However I wouldn't come all the way out from south Auckland to dine here, only if I'm in the area ~

I tried these guys at the taste festival, really liked it so decided to eat there sunday the next day.Ā <br/>They have really good food. Flavoursome. I had the lamb green curry, pad thai and Hapuka red curry and brisket Bao.Ā <br/>Everything was really good, but one comment was that the Hapuka was a tiny portion, quite expensive for the portion, 3 to 4 pieces more would have been good.
Lang Ea
good tasty food.Ā  would recommend anyone who enjoys Asian flavors, small size dishes -great for sharing with friends. service was good.Ā  would definitely go there again

I came here with a friend on Sunday for lunch. The place was busy but not too packed so we got a good seat. The staff were very friendly and helped us out with explaining the menu. <br/><br/>We ordered the popping shrimp, kaffir lime chicken and duck pad thai. <br/>These dishes all came out on time and were absolutely delicious. The popping shrimp was crunchy, juicy, spicy and tangy-the perfect combination in my opinion. The curry leaves added this extra flavour to it which was nice. The kaffir lime chicken was grilled to perfection -juicy and tender. The chilli satay sauce that accompanied it was creamy and crunchy which went really well with the chicken. The duck pad thai was nice and saucy. I would have liked more noodles (I'm a noodle lover) and duck meat but the fresh bean sprouts added that extra flavour and crunch to the dish. <br/><br/>Overall, the food was really good and I would definitely come here again- I just wish the portions were bigger cause it was so yum!!

A big tick for me! Great service and delicious food. I can still remember the taste of shaking beef. The table next to us had the same dish and didn't want to waste the sauce so finished it by drinking the sauce! It was that good!! The food was reasonable size and will definitely go back for more and try the dessert. I love it how staff remembers the menu and your order. So caring and we'll looked after.
Jessica
I was pleasantly surprised with this place as my cousin who is vegetarian suggested it and not being vegetarian myself I wasn't that excited but I really enjoyed myself. I had the duck pad Thai and wow was it tasty. The decor is really cool too! Haven't seen many restaurants around with how this one looks inside and the presentation of the food was good also. I would defiantly recommended to anyone who loves Thai flavours or spicy food and I myself would go back for sure.

As a lover of Asian fusion cuisine, it's no surprise that I absolutely loved this place! Staff were so attentive and friendly, food was awesome we had the coconut and turmeric curry, the pickled vegetable summer rolls and the decadent roti. The curry was so flavoursome and delicious, and the roti was also crumbly and so good. Will definitely be coming back soon !

Two thumbs up!! Good food. Great service. Me and my friend ordered pad thai and shrimp salad. Loved every bite. Plus the ambiance is perfect. I highly recommend this place.

Had lunch here with large group of coworkers. The kitchen was quick with food service and the quality of food was good. Loved the lamb, calamari and sashimi. Downside was our waitress was not very helpful or friendly and forgot some of our order.
Mercypatch
Oh my goodness, soooo good. First time i've everrrr liked chicken wings AND seafood. The prawn popcorn stuff was amazeballs, the chicken wings sooo good! The calamari and everything beef, just so full of flavour to the perfect amount. Place was so full but staff were all attentive and friendly. Amazing place, recommend to anyone, even me who is freaked out of seafood and creepy chicken, these guys make it aaaamazing!

Oh my! I'm pleased I came across this gem. Beautiful restaurant, very attentive and pleasant customer service, and the food was exquisite. I don't normally like fusion style restaurants but I found the dishes exquisite, full of flavour and delightful. The salmon curry was delicious and it's also a bonus that they have a few good vegetarian options. Would definitely come back for date night.

I had this craving for Thai food today but lazy to drive to East Tamaki. My wife suggested we try this place for a change. <br/><br/>We ordered the Shaking Beef, Tom Yum Tua Tua and the Papaya salad. Oh boy! the beef was fantastic. It was very tasty and serving size was enough for both of us. A must try! The papaya salad was also good. <br/><br/>My taste bud were really after Tom Yum Gum and the tua tua was different but nonetheless it was good. <br/><br/>

About time Taka had more asian infusion variety. Tok Tok is pretty cool, great tasting food the tacos and Harpuka curry are my recommendations.<br/><br/>
Sulin Wang
Food was yummy, a pretty standard Asian fusion. We friend and I ordered a bao each, one main, one salad, one roti, and a drink each to a total of just under $100. A bit expensive for the portion of food in my opinion. Really loved the interiors though, so cosy and the service was great!
Tazyn Fini
Great tasting food! Loved the flavour of every dish I had! We shared the starter, dumplings and lime chicken and then ordered the roast pork belly salad which was really spicy and delicious. The only problem I had was that the pork belly itself was a bit tough. The service was okay. Took awhile for the waiter to check up on us and for us to find our waiter however when she did serve us she was very friendly and pleasant. Overall a lovely time with nice food however I have a problem with the food serving amount. You pay quite a lot for quite a little. It's a big downfall I'm my books.
Lily
I liked the restaurant. The foods are generally tasty. What we had was spicy. The food portions are not really big, so you might also want to try the sides and appetisers. I liked the restaurant and I might go there again.
Diogo Reck
My second visit was way better. The place keeps crowded and the food was way more impressive. This time I've tried the Thai style sashimi, pork belly and crispy (really crispy) duck. All very good.<br/>___________<br/><br/>Quite nice place in Takapuna. Usually packed, so you better come early, specially on Fridays and Saturdays.<br/><br/>Me and my friends were lucky enough to get there when someone had just left, so we didn't need to wait for half an hour.<br/><br/>The bad thing is that the only place available was in a more open area, that is actually protected on winter, but still not enough to keep us warm, although the staff and very kind and provided some blankets.<br/><br/>The menu itself is quite interesting and with a wide range of options, so it's very unlikely that you won't find something that suits you.<br/><br/>We had squid with chilli sauce, which was good, but the squid was slightly overcooked. The same happened with the lamb, but the mint sauce was so yummy that I couldn't complaint about it. I particularly liked the way they used the fresh coriander, bringing life to the dishes.<br/><br/>It is definitely not cheap, but considering that it's in Takapuna, price is not offensive. For less than $50 each we had nice food and a bottle of good wine.<br/><br/>

My cousin suggested going to this place for lunch cos she has heard it was good. It was a little late in the afternoon like 2-3pm. There were 8 of us and none of us had eaten for the day so we were all starving. <br/><br/>I ordered tuna tacos to start off with and I must say, these bad boys were to die for!!! Fresh tuna - I was expecting like canned tuna... But nope! Very happy about the fresh tuna. Just everything about this taco was amazing. It was also a crispy shell not a soft shell (also what I was expecting getting a soft shell). <br/><br/>And for the main I had Manuka smoked salmon orange curry. Dish was a little small. But flavours on this dish was delish! The salmon was cooked beautifully, crispy skin and seasoned well. Just a tad spicy for my liking. <br/><br/>Oh and I had to order roti which was an extra $1-$2 for it. But the roti itself was nice and fluffy which was good. <br/><br/>We tried each other's dishes and they were all tasty. Overall, I'd come back just for the fish tacos. Although I didn't think it was very filling for lunch so unsure how dinner would feel like especially when it's a little on the pricey side šŸ˜•

An amazing South East Asian culinary journey.<br/>Highly recommend the lamb bites starter and the crispy hapuka red curry main. A special shout out to the waitstaff for recommending the main. The roti is so bloody amazing too.. crispy n flaky but could not feel a drop of oil.. Highly recommend this place

Loved it! Went late on Thursday night and it was still busy with a small wait for a table but it's worth it!<br/><br/>Enjoyed the popping prawns and salt &pepper squid, followed by prawn 'n coconut salad and the green peppercorn veal curry! The curry is amazing-would eat it again in a heartbeat and everything had a nice authentic spice about it.<br/><br/>Food outstanding and service good but not amazing! Great Takapuna find and can't wait to head back to try more things on the menu! The beef brisket steamed bun looked good as they kept flying out the kitchen!<br/>

Bit of a mixed review, the actual food itself is divine, really nice quality, fresh and suited a family including vegans, big meat eaters and kids, and we all had something delicious. The decor and theme of the restaurant was also lovely, (Vietnamese casual), but thats the end of the positive feedback unfortunately.<br/>The food turned up at random times, with the kids having totally finished their food before the adults meals came, and those meals were all served at various times. So we didnt actually eat together even a little bit. We were there about 2.5 hours getting our food. :(Ā <br/>The food for the kids was very spicy and although we had asked for really mild, its was really strong, so we asked for a different meal, but then got charged for both, and when we questioned this, the waitress just shrugged and still charged us even for the meal Ā that was wrong and too hot.<br/>The service was appalling and not friendly at all and the food very, very expensive. The toilets were also not very clean at all.Ā <br/><br/>But, the actual meals were good, so its abit of a mix of how the experienceĀ was. But I wont be going back, just because lunch turned into dinner, and the staff were so moody and none of us ate together, which was a huge shame and I question the hygiene of the place after seeing the toilets and general area.

Have been here a few times now and love it. A fantastic addition to Takapuna.<br/><br/>You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, try something a bit different and you won't be disappointed. My favourites<br/><br/>Pork potstickers - Very delicate flavour with the tangy vinegar dipping sauce - I wanted a cup of that sauce!<br/>Kaffir Lime Chicken - The lime leaves enhance the beautifully cooked chicken with a tangy and sweet satay sauce.<br/>Hamachi king fish sashimi - Just yum, the chili and soy dressing and freshness of the cucumber is perfect.<br/>Duck Pad Thai - Have never seen Pad Thai with Duck before so having now had it, I think this is the way it should always be done!<br/>Green Papaya Salad - Loved, loved, loved the crispy anchovies in this dish. I licked the plate.<br/>Shaking Beef - Something a bit more substantial to go with the delicate dishes above. Peppery with ginger and onion flavours. Wanted more.<br/><br/>Fantastic well thought out decor and attention to detail with the table settings (love the military style water bottles). The outside area will be a premium spot come summer, will race you for a table!<br/> <br/><br/>EDIT: Walked past today just before 1pm on a sunny day and the place looked like about 20% of the tables had diners. Working in Takapuna I know that there are a ton of places that offer lunch specials, Tok Tok is not one of them. If they were to offer something like a daily special for $15, I would be there everyday! As it is, they are too expensive to go regularly.

I went to Tok Tok with my girlfriend and her family for dinner. We went in on a whim and were lucky to get a table, it'd just opened a few weeks before and was already packed that night. The food was fantastic, the portions generous, and the service excellent. The tables were a bit small, which always makes things difficult, but the food was great. I'd recommend Tok Tok to friends, family, and followers.

Wow, I went there last week with few friends on a rainy day. Great atmosphere for a bottle of wine, with warm and friendly as well as the decoration, food was fantastic. It's would be the best Asian flavour that I have ever tried. Chefs have done a great job

We arrived on a busy Sunday afternoon. The first impression wasn't great, as we had to move from one table that wasn't cleaned properly to another one, which also had food pieces on it. Didn't come across that much at all. The food was of a good quality, in saying that, there are a few similar Asian fusion places in Auckland and it didn't feel like Tok Tok offered something different from the rest. If you are in the area, it is worth visiting.

ā–  Beautiful interior<br/>ā–  Delicious food<br/>ā–  Amazing service<br/><br/>ā–  Gets very busy<br/>ā–  On the pricey end<br/><br/>Takapuna is seriously trendy! There's so many delicious cuisines and hotspots to choose from. My besties and I were in need of a catchup and were keen for a Jap night and we ended up trying out Tok Tok since it was fairly new and had been recently added here. We had a blast. The service was INCREDIBLE! The menu here is a fusion of Southeast Asian including Vietnamese and Thai.<br/><br/>We made a reservation and although it was pretty busy when we arrived, we were still warmly welcomed and seated and servers soon arrived to run us through the menu including recommending their best items. We ordered a few small dishes and a main to share between the three of us. My friends know how much I looove Camalari so we couldn't go past ordering the Salt & Pepper Squid in our platter. I found this to be a little bland but the rest of the dishes certainly made up for it. Next came theĀ  Kaffir Lime Chicken which was delicious!! With the perfect blend of spices and satay, it really gave us just the right amount of heat and flavour. I'd highly recommend this to any newcomers! Their Popping Prawns are a popular item on their menu and I can see why. They are crisp, fresh and has a nice zing to it, hence the "popping". It makes the perfect bar snack! Finally our main arrived and having known that it was gonna be pretty hot, we opted for a small plate of Roti to lighten it up. Alright, now despite the the spicy kick, the fish and the roti were actually a match made in heaven. We were sure to eat slowly and savoury up all the flavour with this one.<br/><br/>The presentation here is faultless and their massive fairy light deck is covered, giving it an impressive indoor-outdoor flow. Treat your man or lady here for a cute night out because the interior is pretty magical and is sure to make your night a romantic one! I found the campy looking mugs a little odd but otherwise, our dining experience was perfect!!

Last Sunday, I had lunch with my family at Tok Tok, a restaurant Iā€™ve been wanting to try since it opened in Takapuna some time last year. It was my dadā€™s birthday so I took it as a great opportunity to book this place. Itā€™s an Asian fusion restaurant which is quite the rage at the moment andĀ this place did not disappoint. If you want to know more about this placeĀ and the food we ordered, continue down below. Just beware, I have a lot of delicious-looking food ahead.
Dale
Food was great but smaller portions that necessary for sharing with larger groups. Salads were also all the same just with one different addition. Cool atmosphere though, lovely service and setting. Will revisit

Came here for lunch having heard good things about this place. Set in the north shore it will definitely add variety to the eateries for the locals.<br/>The food which we had were a selection of their small plates which our waitress enthusiastically declared were recommended for sharing.<br/>All the dishes came promptly and were all very well put together with nice subtle Asian fusion flavours. The only unfortunate thing would be that none of the dishes seems original or blow your socks off type meals that would have got us talking about it.<br/>So Asian fusion well put together but along a well trodden path which is available in a variety of any other good establishments.

Booked in for a dinner this Wednesday at 5:00pm to celebrate my 30th with my best friend I had not seen in a long time. Booked a babysitter for the kiddies and thought it would be a great evening to wind down. Bitterly disappointed as I was not told at the time of booking that we had to be out by 7:00 and that the lady told my friend who arrived first that it was when we had to leave?! The waitress hovered around us at 6:30 and asked us if we were finished when our meals were only half eaten. The buns were awesome, shaking beef was tender, red curry packed a little heat. The sashimi though lacked the punch in the dressing. Overall, lovely setting, the food is good but the communication and service needs some work.
Adline Shandil
Lovely service. We didn't make a reservation but the FOH were really helpful and got us a table where we prefered. All the entrees were great. They were quite large and so yummy we mostly stuck to just the entrees. We did order one main. The duck pad thai. It wasn't exactly my taste and i didn't think it should have been called "pad thai" as it missed base ingredients. Also when told this to the chef, i don't think he took it so well. But overall, everything else was great. We had a lovely night.<br/><br/><br/>My second time here and it was amazing everything was perfect. It was the same chef as last time and we really enjoyed his food. Special thanks to the CHEF for yummy food and JIM (server) for taking care of us. We really enjoyed our date night.
Michael Candy
A group of 14 of usĀ came here for dinner last weekend and had the set menu.Ā I thought theĀ food was fantastic, although a couple in the group found some of the dishes a bitĀ too (spicey) hot. The service however was less than fantastic. Rice and roti arrived after we had finished our curry; we were told that the drinks bill would have to be split evenly between everyone on the table (even though not everyone was drinking) only to find this was not the case when we came to pay. And we were overcharged for a bottle of wine not once, but twice. A good atmosphere and busy but maybe more Asian fusion than Fine Dining as listed here. The enamelĀ water cups and canteens a little impractical and out of place.
Richie Chewy
We didn't make a booking but got a table after eating by the bar to order some drinks first , we got the lamb and shaking beef as mains but they didn't arrive at the same time due to a mix up of our order as admitted by the staff member . We finished the first main then the second came along which was a shame as we would like to try the both together rather than waiting over 30mins for the other main to arrive . We had the penna cotta for desert as recommended which was delicious . Overall it was a good experience as we have tried their sister restaurant la Vietnamese at Ponsonby several times with the same wallpaper so give it a shot when next at takapuna , just note all mains may not arrive at the same time or a bit later ...
Ben Duong
We had been there last night. One of the best of Asian fusion food that I had in Auckland. Great service and nice atmosphere. Definitely be back.
Lesley Pether
We have been to Tok Tok a couple of times since it opened .It is one of the best experiences from a new restaurant in Takapuna that we have seen and can already hold its own with any Asian restaurant in Auckland. As lovers of Asian food this is a real gem for the local restaurant scene and ( tongue in cheek) Ā we hope that its excellent reputation does not get broadcast too widely because it is now somewhere where you need to book to get a table on Friday or Saturday evenings. Try the Hapuka Red Curry . Service is excellent and it is very efficiently managed by the women who is maitre d. tok Tok Ā deserves its success!

Went on a rainy thursday night with three friends for dinner and had drinks on the low tables before our table was ready as we arrived early and booked the later seating. The service was good, drinks nice, but the food (especially the squid) was fantastic. We ordered dishes to share which was well explained by our waitress and it was some of the nicesy Vietnamese food I have ever had. Cant wait to go back. The only thing I didn't like was the camp mugs for water but the waitress quickly brought me a glass and it wasn't a problem. Will be back the sooner the better
Shannon Em
As someone who travelled to Vietnam recently and has struggled to find good Vietnamese food in Auckland, this place was a lovely surprise with the incredible flavours in the dishes we ordered. On the expensive side sure, but the food quality was fantastic and authentic, making Tok Tok a definite place to return to.

Me and my son ate here for dinner tonight. Hands down the best restaurant I've been to for quite a while. <br/><br/>The food has tons of flavour with a nice little kick to it. And all of it was cooked to perfection. From the steamed brisket bun to the succulent beef dishes... brilliant. <br/><br/>Really good service as well. Can't complain at all. <br/><br/>Highly recommended.

Asian fusion at its finest! The food is as good as it sounds on the menu, it has a lovely open dining space with a enclosed outdoor area perfect for any kind of weather and the food is crazy good! We had a selection of dishes; hapuka red curry, duck pad Thai, prawn dumplings, pork bun and roti. I literally savoured every mouthful of every dish! The duck and pork bun were my favourite dishes of the night and would highly recommend them both. This may be a new regular for me!

This is the second time I have dined at this fabulous restaurant and next time I will give it 5/5 because I am sure by then they will have sorted out their slow drinks service. Once the french maitre'd took charge , she turned up the service to maximum beam and we were spoilt for the rest of the night. Food is fantastic, flavours and presentation faultless - modern exciting plates emerged from the kitchen endlessly. Putting this place on my speed dial...
Sandy Bedford
First time there - for mid week lunch. We have now picked out our dinner menu for the next 5 visits šŸ‘ Only tried a few small plates so far but the flavours were amazing. So looking forward to trying every dish on the menu - only negative was wine choice by the glass, should have Chardonnay from Hawkes bay on there! <br/><br/>Best new restaurant for a long time in Auckland!!
Louise
Service was great, very friendly. Drinks were nice. Food was great. Portions weren't overly large so it's good to order starter if you're quite hungry. We had the beef brisket bun & pork dumplings. Main we had hapuku and crab. All very delicious. We both had differing opinions on what was best, so I would say all good.
David Thompson
Great place friendly staff and really flavour some food <br/>The place was busy as with a nice atmosphere and the menu had a wide variety of fresh tastes choices

Weā€™ve been eager to try Tok Tok since it opened so were pleased to get there on Saturday night.<br/>We arrived at 8pm and were behind a party of 3 who were turned away due to being ā€˜fully bookedā€ and advised to come back in an hour. There were only 2 of us so I thought Iā€™d try my luck.. The hostess pulled the same spiel saying how full they were, we asked if we could sit at the bar on the off chance that a table might become available. Iā€™m pleased we asked as 10mins later two separate parties of 3 left and we were seated.<br/> <br/>Food: 8.5/10<br/>Popping Prawns: Delicious, full of flavor, deep fried morsels of yumminess<br/>Lime chicken: Tender strips of chicken<br/>Hapuka Dry Curry: 5 generous pieces of moist hapuka cooked really well. Good flavor, good heat, yummy<br/>Shaking beef: Least favourite dish but very tender slices of beef in a mild Asian sauce.<br/>Wok tossed greens: fresh, cooked perfectly, good flavour<br/>Bay Leaf Panna Cotta: I didnā€™t try but my guest loved it.<br/>All generous serves, I was full after the prawns and chicken<br/> <br/>Service: 6/10<br/>Hostess was a little uninviting. She initially tried to turn us away stating they were full for at least another hour. We said we were happy to wait at the bar for one of the casual dining groups to finish. 10 mins later 2 parties of 3 left. Wait staff were a mixed bag.. Our designated waiter was MIA for the first 15mins and didnā€™t come to us at all through the course of the evening. <br/> <br/>Ambience: 7/10<br/>Itā€™s a big space so difficult to create ambience as such.<br/> <br/>Overall, it was a good experience and Iā€™m keen to go back to try some of the other dishes. Food was awesome however some (not all) of the staff could be a bit more attentive and customer focused.<br/> <br/>Bill was $179 which included aforementioned food + rice, 4 x glasses of wine & 1 x espresso martini.<br/>Good value for money.

1st and last time. The time we went it was too busy and too loud, the place is not aired property, the fumes and the smoke from the kitchen was filling up the place, our clothes stunk afterwards, food was very average.
Oxana Timofeeva
We had such a great time yesterday at Tok Tok; delicious food, amazing atmosphere, friendly staff and affordable price. I will definitely go back there again!
Louise
First time visit for lunch yesterday. Great food. We had tapas chicken, rice paper rolls, tuna tacos, prawn dumplings. All food really nice. My fav was the chicken. K's tuna tacos. It didn't take long to be seated but over 10min to take drinks order. I ended up going to bar. Staff really nice & food rolled out quickly. We will def go again.

The best new Restaurant in Takapuna. <br/><br/>Since the new edition of Madam woo we are a bit spoilt for choice in Takapuna.. My advice is try Tok Tok. I would give this a 6 if I could. I have been here 3 times now and tried various items on the menu and have not been disappointed. To make this short at sweet <br/><br/>Service - friendly helpful and almost as if they enjoy working here. It's such a good vibe <br/><br/>Drinks - wine list is fantastic and their cocktails are spot on! Only thing I would ask for is more central Otago reds but that's just cause I'm a fan<br/><br/>Price - for what you are getting here it's incredible value for money. The flavours are just jumping off the plate (chicken wingsšŸ‘ŒšŸ») who knows what those herbs are but wow. Yum! <br/><br/>Make this your next stop, but beware there's a reason my review was this good. You will most likely be waiting for a table get in early

We gave Tok Tok a few weeks to bed in and then tried it mid afternoon one Saturday when it was quiet and we weren't disappointed. We had the popping prawns (good), beef brisket steamed bun (sublime), kaffir lime chicken satay (great with a hint of heat) and the tuna taco (fantastic). We tried the three deserts, Bay Leaf Panna Cotta with caramelised banana and penny's (fantastic), Pandan Tapioca (great) and the ice cream and jelly (ice cream good some of the jelly flavours were interesting!). We had the Saigon Export Larger, a couple of cocktails and a glass or two Veuve bubbles. The service was a bit slow to start but picked up the pace as we went on - attentive but not that friendly. We will be back, so give it a go.

This restaurant is opened by the owners of Le Vietnamese cafe in Ponsonby. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Service was friendly. Though the drinks situation was a bit of a let down as they didn't have fresh coconut but took a while to let us know. We then changed to passion fruit juice but this again was available and also took a while for us to find this out. Hence at the end after a long wait, I finally managed to get my lychee martini which was a bit "meh"! Still hopefully they will get their act together soon since they have just opened last week. We would go back to try some other interesting dishes.

I'm a vegetarian, and often these asian fusion places don't have great options (e.g. Mekong Baby, etc), so I was really pleasantly surprised to see 3 vegetarian mains and also a veg salad on the menu. Ā I actually had a choice! I didn't have to ask for a special menu, or make substitutions, or order an array of bland sides. Ā I settled on a curry, which was absolutely delicious, with nice subtle flavors and a bit of a kick. Ā Nice vibe as well. Will definitely return.

I have to leave a 'mixed' review after we went there recently after the new opening. We left feeling let down by the service, but were pleased with the dishes. The prices are higher than other similar cuisine restaurants in Auckland - which is absolutely fine if the food and service reflect that. Unfortunately the service was a bit disorganized and slow. They seem a bit frazzled at the moment and I hope to go back once they get things on track and give them a second chance - because I really enjoyed the flavors, the lamb starter was really delicious. Decor is fun and the menu looks exciting, we might give them another try once things are running a bit smoother

Very impressive choices at lunch. Ā I ordered the crispy hapuka red curry. Ā The portion was more than enough with at least 6 large pieces of fish. Ā Taste-wise, the fish curry was full of unique characters, so it was scrumptious. Ā The downside of the restaurant is their staff and prices. Ā One of the staff told us on arrival that all the food is fusion cuisine and none of the dishes is spicy hot. Ā This is not completely true, as the red curry was like medium hot. Ā The prices are on the high side. Ā Curry that doesn't come with free rice is almost unheard of. Ā A bowl of rice is $3 and a dish of stir-fried broccoli and courgette is $9.

Went for dinner on the second night it was open and didn't get off to a great start with half the cocktails on the menu not being available (and the ones that were, didn't taste great). The service was average but it was very busy and with it only being their first week, I'm hopeful that it will get better. The food was pretty good (Alaskan crab, salt and pepper squid and sweet potato pad seuw) but the roti bread was too dry and doughy for my liking. Overall not a great experience but I really liked the decor and feel (although drinking water out of camping flasks and mugs was a bit naff for my liking) and I'm pretty sure this place will actually last (all the restaurants that preceded it were a flop). Room for improvement for sure.
