Review Nanam Eatery - Takapuna

Tired of cafe food in Takapuna? Perfect place for people craving for something different. Filipino food like no other. The atmosphere has strong Filipino identity so you feel like you’re elsewhere.

Incredibly tasty dishes that are inspired by Filipino cuisine. More than that, I feel like they really bring out the tastes of the culture for others unaware to enjoy. Very enhanced flavors. Highly suggest the longanisa to start and can't go wrong with the lechon and bistek for main dishes. I'd love to try the rest when I return to New Zealand. Thank you, Nanam family 💕

I wish we had discovered this place sooner. Nanam is incredible and will quickly become our go to date night spot. The food was absolutely divine, and the service was quick and super friendly! You have to get the Lamb Adobo Croquettas, Wagyu Sausage Longganisa, cauliflower bites, and the beef cheek. Firstly, that wagu sausage is to die for. I would eat that dish every day if I could. Even the cocktails were amazing - go for the Singapore Sling.

Nanam is my favourite restaurant in Auckland. I'm sure I reviewed this place before but here we go again. Every time we come to Nanam, for a birthday or anniversary or monthiversary, we try to get something new and every dish has been a delight. Beautiful, deep, rich, and complex flavours and every menu item is unique to the next. The longganisa is probably the best dish in Auckland. Hopefully they can bring back the halo halo so we can have a cold treat after gorging ourselves next time.

Went here at Nanam had some non pinoy with me and what a delight . Great execution and too be honest, price is cheap for the quality you get fresh desserts cooked on the day. Had fresh pandesal as well. Thank you and we’ll see you again

Quite a unique experience. This place serves up modernized Filipino food. Not sure if they are better than the original Filipino dishes but they were honestly pretty tasty. Check this place out if you haven't tried. Ordered dishes: - Wagyu Sausage (Longganisa) 7.8/10 - Roasted chicken (Sinigang): 7.5/10 - Beef Cheek (kaldereta) 8.2/10 - Pork Belly (Lechon) 5.5/10 - Soy Panna Cotta (Taho) 3.5/10 Longganisa: Wagyu Sausage has a nice beefy and lemongrass flavour. It tasted really good eating it with the pickled papaya, coriander, peanuts and chipotle mayo. A very well balanced dish. Sinigang: The chicken was well cooked and had nice flavours. A really enjoyed the green watercress puree, it was creamy and zingy. The puree paired really well with the chicken. Kaldereta: Pretty sure what I ate was different to the menu description, however it did taste delicious. The beef cheek was super tender. It was so tender that you don't even need to bite. The mash potatoes was creamy, silky and super smooth. Then there were the peas on top which provided a nice surprise of texture to the dish. Nanam has always been an institution on the Takapuna food scene and for good reasons. The ambience is great, service and cocktails to match and the food is always what you need. Main stars are the ceviche and wagyu sausage. The cauliflower was great too. The chicken was decent but nothing to write home about. We will however be back to try the pork hock which we saw delivered to the next table and we immediately had dish envy.

This is the best Asian cuisine we have ever seen in Auckland. Everything was just great, I had a farewell dinner with my company’s whole team at Nanam a while back, and I just can’t forget how good the food was. So I took my partner there last night. There was a small incident at the restaurant after we just sat down, the fire alarm went off and everyone have to go out to the street. The the staff were very caring and apologetic to everyone even though we all know it’s just the alarm systems problem in the whole building. So we only waited for 10 -15 mins outside, and after we went back to the restaurant they gave us our starters as compensation for the incident which they didn’t have to. The staff keep coming to check our table to make sure everyone is ok, big smile, warm welcoming, LOVE THIS RESTAURANT!!!!

Sarah and I went on a Saturday night a few weeks ago. We have been going to Nanam three - four times a year for a while now. And I have to say our last experience was even better than expected. We had the Ceviche, dumplings and steamed bun as Tapa's and each of them were the best we have ever had anywhere. They were all perfect. Then we shared the half duck with coleslaw and to be honest I was not expecting perfection. But it was also of a very high quality that would match anything from a restaurant of twice the price. So our experience at Nanam was 10/10 :--)

Lovely dinner with family and friends! Came to try this place for some Filipino food. It did not fail us. We had a reservation and table all set when we came in. Lady staff was informative and welcoming. Indeed a fancy and pricey restaurant but worth it. Their pork belly, longganiza, ceviche were popular. The so-called banana turon was a bomb. Downside, parking but will be back.

Plates are well presented, tasty food. Friendly and helpful staff. A bit over priced, but worth it. For starters we wanted the grilled octopus and pork and it was unavailable that day… We had fish ceviche and wagyu sausage instead. Very nice dishes! Over all, it’s a nice place to try Filipino food.

Fantastic service in a designer space, I love the baskets above the counter! We ordered some Tapas for our table and they were all delicious. My favorite was the Cauliflower bravas, but the Eggplant and tuna ceviche were yummy too. The Bistek main was melt-in-the-mouth, although the portion was a little small and it needed a side to be a filling meal for one.

First time coming to this restaurant. It is not exactly authentic pinoy style food but is more fusion with western. Out of the dishes I ordered I highly highly recommend getting the taco pao. However, the crispy pork hock seemed more hard than crispy. Overall the food was good and left us wanting more.

the photo doesn’t give justice as they have a yellow light but I love ambiance of this resto and the homeeeey feels. Will definitely come back for the red bao, tacos and the steak. The Lechon- We love the sahog as it was mashed. crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside The taho is a modernised one, but def will a try

I've never eaten something so good! It's Filipino food to the next level! We got the Chef's recommendation. We're surprised there was no rice but it didn't need rice at all. We were so full by the end of the course meal. The dessert was the highlight!

Custard tarts in ube and coconut options. The BEST thing ever! Slightly larger than your average custard tart. The flaky pastry tended to the soft rather than hard. The flavors are the star - unique and well executed. The textural contrast of both coconut pieces and smooth coconut paste in the base was also a highlight for me. Highly recommended.

Came here a few weeks ago with my partner, we tried a few tapas such as: Lamb "Adobo" Croquetas; so earthy and warm! Give them a go even if you are a "no lamb" person. "Sardinas"; they were really good but nothing out of this world, i could say that this one was my less favourite of the tapas. Wagyu sausage "Longganisa", this one was my favourite, its served with some kind of chipotle mayo in a soft tortilla that you can just roll it up or fold it and eat it as a kind of taco, the longganisa was so good that is hard to describe, so many layers of flavour and so tender!. "Kinilaw" tuna ceviche; another beautifull tapa, fresh, bright and kind of creamy, not as spiced as a peruvian ceviche but really well balanced. TacoPao; Served with all the ingredients in separate small bowls so you can build your prefered "bao", the beetroot buns were warm and soft and the sticky pork belly was superb, but it falls behind the amazing Longganisa or the Lamb Adobo Croquetas. We wanted to order a main but that tapas were more than enough and we ended up ordering some desserts. Mais at queso; i could totally come back just for this dessert, sweet corn ice cream? Really? Yes! As weird as it sounds it was AMAZING! It perfectly match with the pastry and the dulce the leche! We also ordered a "Halo Halo", a kind of ice shaved dessert with fresh fruits and ube mousse but it wasn't as good as the Mais at queso in my opinion. The staff was super friendly all the time, i think the name of the waiter was Don and the waitress/manager was Jess o think, big thumbs up for them! We will totally come back!

Great ambiance, staff was helpful & informative. A surprising touch of loincloth were on every chair. Sinigang and Wagyu Longganisa were our favourite dish! This is a different take on Filipino cuisine that never have I thought I would enjoy.

Drove all the way from East Auckland on a weekday just to have lunch at Nanam. Their Wagyu sausage longganisa is indeed a winner. The taco pao is a must try. Their crispy pata is unlike the classic/traditional one. You have to eat the meat, the side and the sauce all together and all the flavors come together so well. I’m blown away. Just a bit unlucky for me that the roast chicken sinigang is not available during lunch as it is my favorite. If only Nanam is close to where I live then I would eat there everyday!

We ordered for delivery during lockdown. If you spend $80+ you get free delivery within 15km. We are just within the 15km. They emailed to say the food might be cold by the time it gets to us but i said it was fine. I placed the order the day before delivery for 6-7pm (you can choose the time on the website). It would have been ok if it got delivered 7.10pm which would have been 10mins later than the latest delivery time. However it arrived at 7.40pm which means it is 40mins late! Please note that the cold food was not the issue for us, but the delivery being so late. Quite dissappointing... The food was good though.
I Am Hungry
We were here last night, food was excelent and so were the portion size, however the waiting time were too long... the thing that put us off the most was that the servers had to be called all the time and they did not use tray for service instead with carry everything by hand including drinks sometimes 3 at a time... at times of covid this is very unhygienic ...

I didn’t realise I was missing out on a whole ass cuisine until I tried Nanam. Blew my mind, sis the flavours wow!!! Unfortunately my ass is too lazy to tell you all what dishes I ordered but you can trust that all of it was amazing!! I am in love. Service and atmosphere is also great, would recommend for dates and dining with family.

The location is easy to find, and the Nanam staff was very accommodating. There were so many good stuff to consider on their menu, and since we were a big group, we decided to try a couple of things like: wagyu inasal, crispy pork hock, wagyu sausage, lamb adobo croquettas, taco pao, octopus gising gising. I really liked the crispy pork hock, it was soft and tasty, and the wagyu sausage. I’m a big fan of gising gising but the Nanam octupus gising gising wasn’t for me — it felt a bit rubbery and tasted a bit fishy to me. Overall though, it was a great experience eating at Nanam, the homey atmosphere and friendly staff made it feel very Filipino.

Came here the first time - the starters (wagyu sausage and spring rolls) were very tasty. The main I had (wagyu steak) was good, but nothing special in terms of flavour. The second time I went, I had the Roast chicken, which was much more flavourful, so would highly recommend. Pork hock, beef cheek, duck and rice were great too!!Although I didn’t like the fish of the day, it was too dry for my liking.
Angel
We definitely enjoyed the service especially how Don was very accommodating to us.

Food was so flavoursome and tasty. It's Filipino food I can eat together with my Filipino friends who say it's a good kiwi twist on Filipino food we can all enjoy. Service was great! Will be visiting again every time I'm in Auckland.<br/>

Have been here multiple times and have always had a great dining experience. The place is very classy. The servers are always attentive and most importantly, their food is amazing! My favourites are the Taco Pao (for the win!) and Wagyu Longganisa for starters. For the mains, the Crispy Pata and Kare Kare never disappoint. For dessert, Halo Halo and Turon for sure.<br/>

Holy Moly this place is so freaken good!! It's the first time in ages since I smiled so hard while eating food. Honestly I probably looked like a dork but it was worth it!<br/><br/>My friends and I had the $58 set menu (with the money we don't have). And it was out of this world. Everything was executed so well with my favourite being the halo halo and the tapioca fried balls (I'm sure there is a name for it). Oh and let's not forget about that rice. Honestly idk whether or not it's coconut rice or what but it was amazing! And according to the wise words of my friend, "the rice is the main dish."<br/><br/>The staff there was super amazing! They really know their stuff!<br/><br/>Prior to going I read on the comments that it is a bit pricey. But tbh for the food and everything that you are getting it's really not. Just think about the amount you will pay at a white restaurant.

Food 4/5<br/>Service 4/5<br/>Ambience 5/5<br/><br/>Not your traditional Filipino restaurant Chef has taken ideas from traditional dishes and created a very Westernized version. From the decor you can get a sense of Filipino culture with the weaved baskets and chair runners. Very welcoming host and attentive wait staff. However, some on our table felt a bit rushed between the entree and mains as they literally finished entrees and mains arrived. We had the vegetarian taco pao and spicy pork prawn entree. Taco pao was served deconstructed but it was nice to build the flavour to your own liking. Spicy pork had a good kick. Pork belly: meat/fat melted in the mouth, crispy skin and greatly balanced by the tartness coming from the cucumber and mushroom salad. Tofu BBQ was sweet and salty and complimented by the tart salad.Flavours were good but on the pricey side for me in relation to the size of the dish. <br/><br/>

We first visited Nanam three years ago, that was when their restaurant was located in Symonds Street, Royal Oak. Our review during that time was OK, there was one let down during that time but everything was great specially their Taco Pao, now many years later we revisited, in a much better and improved location, in Takapuna.

Wanted to come to Nanam for so long. We had a great evening. Food was very good and services were excellent. Love everything we ordered. We tried six tapas, two mains and three desserts. Recommend Tacopao, Wagyu Sausage, Crispy taro leaf parcels, Pork hock and Turon.
KC Yumul
I would have given this place 5 star however I find their food quite pricey for the scanty amount they serve. My bestfriend and I went there for dinner for the first time; we went straight to mains, so not tapas. we got kare kare each then decided we wanted more so we ordered pork belly to share then had turon and halo halo for dessert; just all those cost us nearly 150$. To be honest, i don’t mind paying money for really good food, i just wish the serving was a bit more than expected. Anyways, meat was well cooked and very tasty. Kare kare is definitely our favorite! Would definitely come back! Thanks for the good food :)

Great location with good parking spaces. Atmosphere and decor done pretty well. Staff were really friendly and food was really good as well. <br/><br/>Their wagyu rolls were really nice and their halohalo was a really good dessert.

The food here is soo tasty and fresh, the atmosphere is beautiful and the service was impeccable. I would eat here every day if I could! Highly recommended.

Great experience at Nanam, what a beautiful meal.<br/>Every single dish was delicious, you can see the love that the team put in their restaurant, as it feels authentic but very creative at the same time.<br/>Thanks Nanam team for a wonderful lunch!!!... See you again soon!!

Really good and quality food, and actually quite filling as well.<br/><br/>Roasted pork belly was perfect, crispy skin and tender juicy meat. Both textures contrasted each other very well. I cannot give enough praise to the execution of this dish. And the rich thick sauce was the cherry on top.<br/><br/>Grilled Angus was divine, the charcoal grill gives it a very nice smokey flavour. Some of the best steak I have ever eaten.<br/><br/>These two were just my favourite, but the rest dishes we had was very good as well.

This restaurant was such a wonderful surprise. We doubted a Filipino restaurant and we were wrong. Walking in the atmosphere was bustling, tables were full, diners were happy. We ordered from the tapas menu to have more tastes and every single dish was superb. Beautifully presented and amazing flavours. They came out one by one so that we had a chance to savour them individually. The service was fantastic. Engaged staff with energy. We were so wrong. This is our new favourite restaurant!

Some of the best filo food I've had. It's fusion so there's a bit of a twist on some of the classic dishes but overall really tasty. I definitely recommend trying their turon. Delicious.
Zachary Smith
As a massive fan of Filipino food and my partner being Filipino this was a match made in heaven. Nanam's take on the soul food with a fusion mix is outstanding. Call it fine dining Filipino, with halo halo being my favourite! Me and my partner went to the old setup in royal oak and the new in takapuna, both were good but the new place in takapuna is a vast improvement and is actually very nice and stylish. Can never go wrong when your off to nanam!

Beautiful service and ambience upon arrival.<br/><br/>I ordered a Taco Pao (to share with a friend), and a Pork Belly “Lechon” as my main.<br/><br/>The beetroot bao was really soft and a great vessel to hold the juicy pulled pork, pickled sides, nuts, and dried onion flakes. I absolutely loved the different textures and flavours encompassed in just one bite.<br/><br/>The pork belly was incredibly succulent and flavourful along with the sauce. I loved the sides to the dish too - the pickled cucumber and crispy kale leaf really helped to bring out the best in this dish.<br/><br/>The only downside is that service for the food was rather slow.
Sarah
Delicious! Lots of gluten free options and very friendly and helpful wait staff. Really enjoyed my meal, had the chicken, tofu salad and partner had the seared tuna. All of it was perfect

Excellent filipino fusion restaurant. Love the ambiance and classy set up of the place. Attentive and helpful waitress.<br/>All dishes were delightful and beautifully presented and great for sharing.<br/><br/>For the tapas/entrees, we had the grilled oysters and canadian scallops. The oysters came beautifully presented with decorative shells. Perfectly grilled oysters - wished there were more! The scallops were nice but we were expecting to get more scallops as there were probably only a couple of them cut up into small pieces, <br/><br/>We had 3 mains to share: <br/>The Angus ribeye was perfectly cooked - med rare, served with salad. Loved the smokiness flavour that came through. <br/>Fish of the day was hapuka, served on a bed of vegetables. This was a light & fresh dish.<br/>Roasted half chicken sinigang. Moist and strong flavours. Loved the tamarind spice marinated free-range chicken, it was complemented by the tomato salsa. <br/><br/>Desserts were outstanding. Again, we werent expecting to receive such beautifully presented desserts. Each bowl of dessert contained many different elements, textures, & flavours that complemented each other.<br/>Ovaltine - quite a rich and chocolatey dessert.<br/>Halo halo - a fresh and lighter dessert with fresh fruits<br/><br/>Loved our dining experience there and will surely come back

Filipino Food with a Twist. Make sure to call in for a reservation for this place is packed with people especially during the weekends. A bit pricey but the food here is really nice 👍🏼😊

Attentive service. Food was excellent. I like the twist on the traditional flavours. Really interesting. Somewhat pricey but makes sense for the quality of food

Ever since trying Nanam at its old Royal Oak site a few years ago, I fell in love with its incredible unique and delicious modern Filipino cuisine. It has relocated in its current stylish establishment in Takapuna in late 2017/early 2018 and I thought it was about time to pay it a visit. The new restaurant is stylish and classy, with a big function at the room for hire and makes it a perfect place for private functions, parties and any kind of celebrations.

This used to be our favourite place, our first dining experience here was amazing! All the food was delicious and service was top notch (that was 1 and half month ago?). We were very impressed that we decided to try it again for our date night. <br/><br/>Unfortunately we left very underwhelmed the second time. It wasn’t the same experience as our first one. The staff were polite and the food were still pretty good but the time it took for us to get our meals were shocking. We ordered mostly tapas and it took nearly 2hrs (the place wasn’t busy at all either). We specifically told the waiter we wanted our dishes to come out all at the same time but they came out 15-20mins apart. And for our mains we had to remind the staff about our order (to be honest we weren’t even hungry anymore...) We decided to brush it off and order some desserts...and guess what after roughly 30mins of waiting it never came. We decided to just leave and pay, when we went to pay they didn’t even ask us about it and we had to tell them that our food never came and they just replied by saying “ohh really? sorry about that”. We were super disappointed as this place used to be our fav and they do have some delicious food but it’s just not worth waiting for.

The food took too long to come out. Pretty good food but definitely not worth the price.<br/><br/>I haven't got anything too say because I am unimpressed and Zomato requires 140 character to review..<br/><br/>NOT RECOMMENDED

Came here on a sunny Saturday evening before it got really busy.<br/>I've heard so much about this Filipino-Fusion and finally got the chance to visit! <br/><br/>The waitress was really accommodating and friendly when I asked her questions about the dishes on the menu. <br/>We got an array of tapas to try, including: Crab Fat Rice and Scallop rice rolls, lamb abodo croquettes, Taco Pao, Taro Leaf Laing Parcels, and a black rice crisp with fresh vegetables ontop! <br/>For mains we got Angus Fillet and Beef Cheek Caldereta. <br/><br/>Tapas came out fast and fresh; all of which were beautifully presented and each were insanely unique and different to what you would get anywhere else! Flavours and textures were all really exciting to try! Favourites were definitely the Crab Fat Rice and Scallop Rolls, Croquettes, AND THE TACO PAO! It's no wonder this is their signature dish. The soft fluffy bun holds the sweet and salty marinated pork and pickled radish and carrots SOO GOOD and finished with a sprinkle of sesame seeds YUMM! <br/><br/>Mains were a highlight; the seared Angus Steak was cooked to perfection and smokey<br/>Beef Cheek Caldereta MY GOODNESS the meat falls apart and the outer crust is thick and crunchy and is ABSOLUTELY PACKED WITH FLAVOUR! I have been craving this since and I would highly recommend it! <br/><br/>Portions are good for the price and interior is nicely decorated, with a urbane, rustic twist to its authentic village vibes. <br/><br/>Food: 9/10<br/>Price: 8/10<br/>Ambience: 9/10<br/>Service: 9/10

Been here a few times and the food is awesome. It’s Filipino fusion food.<br/><br/>I usually order 4 or 5 things off the menu because the food is sooo good.<br/><br/>Highly recommended.<br/><br/>Photos below are from the $48 share menu.

Such a nice restaurant, very hospitable host and hostess. Very tidy toilets and place has a nice ambiance. Food was good, but not what I expected.<br/>Overall experience was ok.

Seriously such cool food! The restaurant had such a fantastic vibe to it - loved the interior design. We had never had this type of cuisine before and we blown away. Food was homey but experimental at the same time. Loved the silky egg custard so much. Staff were really nice and helpful and explained everything as it was served. Would go again next time I’m in Auckland!
#fatlyfe
Food was amazing!! Bit of a twist on your normal philipino food. Had 3 tapas and a desert. The pork belly was divine, the lamb croquettes were pleasant and the wagyu sausage was great. The desert was full of theatrics and quite different to your normal deserts <br/>Would definitely go back to try a few mains

REALLY GOOD FOOD!!! Amazing staff, good portions, reasonable price, awesome place, just all round great experience. My new go-to for comfort food.

Been here a few times and always had a great time with great food. When I first walked in, I loved the deco and the coziness of the place. Staff were amazing with great sense of humour. All the food we ordered were great. Great portioned food, nicely decorated and pretty to look at.

Tried the halo halo today. I didn't like it as probably I am craving for the typical one with huge servings. Unfortunately it's not what I expected, small servings for $15.××, not worth it. It tastes more like the ice craze in jollibee. They offer modern filipino cuisine but not the authentic one . Don't get me wrong presentation wise was great and the ambiance too though.
Nuj Writes
The taco Pao is one of the best baos I’ve had in Auckland! The pawpaw salad and the smoked eggplant are both excellent also! The beef cheek was yum too, with a very earthy sauce!
Duchess_Arg
I love how passionate the owner/s and the chef of Nanam. All their hard work is seen in their menus. They perfectly level up the filipino cuisine and added some twist in it. Keep up the good work. Salute!

15/08/2018<br/>I don't normally come to this side of Auckland, so I thought we will try one of the Metro 50 2018. Didn't have much expectation at all as I had quite a few very average ones from the Metro 50 list. But it was totally surprised me, so amazing!!!<br/><br/>The attention to small details makes everything perfect! We ordered the set menu to try out. Three of us had three different entrees and mains to share, everything was delicious. The set menu also included a drink (tea or coffee), the latte was good cafe quality too. Our waitress Clarisse was so great and friendly. Definitely go back again.<br/><br/>Food: 10/10<br/>Drink: 9/10<br/>Presentation: 9/10<br/>Service: 10/10<br/>Ambience: 8/10<br/>Portion: 10/10<br/>Price: Set menu $30 per person

Tried few Filipino food in night market in AU and NZ, it’s the very first time I have it in a formal restaurant. This place was nicely decorated, although the tables they use were not compatible with the whole design. Their food was absolutely amazing, much much better than the nightmarket stalls. The drink menu was a bit simple but adequate for me. The price was very good for its value, we spent only $50pp for alcohol, starter and mains. The service staff was a bit unprofessional but acceptable. Definitely recommended for those who never tried Filipino food before. Overall rate 4.5/5.

Friendly staff and great ambiance and really good food. Great place to enjoy a modern twist classical Filipino recipes. Warm cosy setting that's welcoming to both couples and groups.

We came for the father's day lunch. The size of shared platter was a bit small as opposed to its price (39nzd per guest). The mains were so good esp pork hock and wagyu beef! Adobo crocquette is just ok, I think it is too small and just 1 piece a guest. For dessert, I appreciate that halo-halo was modernized but some elements didn't work together and as a whole it is underwhelming. Sorbet was a bit sour, melon/kiwi didn't go well and it lacks shaved ice which halo-halo is known for.<br/><br/>But overall, it was a good experience and the place got really nice ambience. If you are looking for authentic filipino cuisine, boracay garden is still the best place to go to. But Nanam is still a great place to eat.<br/>
Deb Ross
Really enjoyed this place. Very different flavours. Smoked eggplant delicious with really good contrast of textures with the crisp brown rice and cheery tomatoes. The smoked lamb adobo entree a must! We shared 4 entrees and one main which was plenty. We'll definitely return.
Andrea Barabas
This is a very nice restaurant! beautiful cozy place. You have to make a reservation to be sure to get a table on weekends. You can order small dishes and good sized portion main. Very good Pina colada!

Stand out in boring Takapuna Food scene<br/><br/>Compared to the typical Auckland food, Nanam serves delicious and flavorful food at reasonable prices.
Yuko Saito
The food was good, I haven’t eaten enough philippino meals to say whether it is authentic or not, but my half philippino partner said although the name of the meals are philippino, the ingredient and flavours weren’t. I had smoked eggplant for entree, followed by octopus Bicol and halo halo as dessert. <br/><br/>The flavours are all very nice, but felt that it was very rich. I couldn’t finish the mains, and although the menu tittles “octopus”, I felt that pork cheeks were over whelming and too oily. The dessert helped to cleanse the pallet. It wasn’t overly sweet, and flavoursome and really enjoyed it.
Rockran
The place was very nice. The service was great and the food was delicious. I’m not sure how authentic it is, but who cares. Loses a star for being a bit pricey but there was a lunch special that we could have had.
Fiona
Beautiful, yummy food we’ve been twice and going again tonight, delicious menu and a variety of dishes that suits everyone, lovely staff always smiling and happy , very welcoming restaurant, nice music on Friday night , highly recommended

Beautiful food, modern atmosphere, and super attentive staff. I’m usually not a huge fan of Filipino food, but Nanam has converted me. <br/><br/>We started with the brioche with salted butter & aged cheddar. I could eat a whole truckload of these things. My goodness - the bread was so soft and delicious! The smoked eggplant was the other starter we tried. It was light and refreshing to the pellet, and a nice crispy texture from the rice crackers that nicely contrasted the pasty eggplant. To be honest, I liked these two entrees more than any of the three mains we ordered. The guava drinks were also very nice (both the cocktail and its virgin version).<br/><br/>As for the mains, I tried the beef cheeks, crispy pork hock, and octopus bicol (which was a curry). I didn’t really like the beef cheeks - although not unpleasant, it was a bit fatty and came with nothing that balanced this. A bit of acidity would’ve been nice? The octopus curry was delicious, and tasted kinda like a Thai curry, but I was sad there wasn’t much octopus in the dish. My favourite main, by far, was the pork hock. It was so delicately crispy on the outside and super soft and tender on the inside. It came with a nice slaw, and a super tart tamarind sauce which was the perfect accomplishment to this dish. <br/><br/>My two friends and I were almost too full at this point but we had to try deserts. The ovaltine was like a mini chocolate fondant with a very thin outer layer but oozy chocolate centre. The jasmine mousse was interesting and I liked this desert more than the halo-halo, which had some nice flavours but it was too messy. I couldn’t find the panacotta because it was buried in ice in the bottom of the bowl, and the way it was presented just didn’t make much sense to me. The tea would’ve also been nicer if it was loose leaf instead of a teabag. <br/><br/>We went on a Saturday evening so the atmosphere was very lively. The highlight was the guitarist they had playing gentle acoustics, including Eagles’ cover songs, which made me not want to leave! <br/><br/>Pretty hefty bill, but we did order and eat a lot for the three of us. Next time we’ll try the ‘chef’s recommendation menu’ which is 65pp with a drink.

In short - excellent. Food was great and reasonably priced. Service was generally good with only a couple of minor slip ups. The only let down was probably the wine menu, a fairly lean list of mid-range NZ wines which were priced up to $16/glass - a little rich for their class. There was live music which was a very nice touch but the restaurant did get a little loud as the evening went on.

I had an amazing experience here. The staff here were lovely and very helpful in explaining the menu and overall every accommodating.<br/>Highly recommend the Longaniza for an entree and Halo-halo for the dessert!

Birthday dinner <br/><br/>Having loved my first Nanam experience when they were in Royal Oaks it was only a matter of time I visited them again in Takapuna.<br/><br/>My birthday seems like an excellent time for a great dinner and an awesome dinner it was.<br/><br/>Restaurant was rather full so booking a table was a great idea. We were promptly seated by the very friendly staff and water glasses were filled. Friday night saw us being entertained with life music, a talented gentleman playing the guitar, added to the vibe and was really great to listen to.<br/><br/>The menu isn't extensive but the flavours that come out of the kitchen are and you are in for a real treat. Every meal was bursting with texture, flavour and overall a true food journey through every bite. A meal to highlight has to be the beef cheek, the richness of slow cooked meat never fails and this dish is a winner, HIGHLY recommended.<br/><br/>Overall a wonderful culinary experience one I will happily do again and will be sure to tell everyone else to do the same.<br/><br/>Food: 94%<br/>Ambience: 90%<br/>Service: 89%<br/>Coffee: N/A

Nanam is an experience. The food is fresh, delicious and unlike anything you’ve tasted. If you have not tried Filipino food this is a good place to start. Although it’s not your everyday Filipino food, and it’s certainly not traditional but the flavours will transport you there. <br/>Great set menu options for big groups and vegetarian/vegan options are available.

Had a lovely dinner on Friday with amazing live guitar music. <br/>The menu is not big but has plenty of exciting dishes to choose. <br/>We chose the brioche and a smoked eggplant dish to start with and can not describe how amazing both were.<br/>The brioche was so soft with a perfect amount of their butter and aged cheddar. I regret not ordering a whole one for myself!<br/>As for the smoked eggplant salad, I would think even eggplant haters would like this one. <br/>The eggplant(without the skin) is cooked so it is soft and smooth (no trace of that squashy strange texture of an eggplant) with some ginger on a brown rice(?) cracker with heirloom tomato and watercress. Beautiful marriage of flavours and very refreshing to the palate. <br/><br/>As for mains we ordered a braised cheek dish, a crispy pork hock dish and an octopus and pork dish. <br/>Braised cheek was beautifully tender but nothing special was what I thought. <br/>The pork hock was amazingly soft with mouth watering crackling with a sauce on the side which I could not quite decipher the taste. Most probably tamarind and etc. <br/>The octopus dish was somewhat similar to a Thai curry flavour, with lemongrass and chili. Very tasty but a little spicy for those who have low chili tolerance. <br/><br/>We also ordered a papaya salad on the side, very nice but tangy and maybe the fish sauce smell may put some people off.<br/><br/>Dessert was yum yum yum. I had a deconstructed dark chocolate fondant with jasmine tea mousse and salted caramel ice-cream. <br/>Very rich but not overly sweet and well presented on the plate. <br/><br/>Overall experience was very enjoyable and very filling. I must say the beautiful live music by the guitarist gave big points. <br/>I would highly recommend to everyone but especially those who are looking for a nice place to go on a date.<br/>Nice ambience and pretty romantic with the guitar. <br/>We asked the staff and the live music is on every Friday and Saturday:)<br/>

It is a shame I don't have anymore stars to give.<br/>The design, the live music, the flavours, the textures, the ambient..everything just works.<br/>We had the drunken prawns, smoked eggplant for entrees and the salmon in banana leaf, the NZ angus, the crispy NZ pork hock and the roast pork belly for mains and everything was simply top shelf.<br/>Extremely recommended

Went on a here on Saturday night with a group 5. I can say I was blown away with every aspect of our experience. One of the hidden gems in Auckland for me. <br/><br/>Ambience and fit out - Carefully thought out and unique without being too kitschy or pretentious.<br/>Service - Excellent and attentive. Waitress was friendly and polite and suggested some excellent items as it is a unique menu. <br/>Food - Best i've had in awhile. Every dish was carefully crafted with unique ingredients and cooked to perfection. <br/>Over one of the best dining experiences i've had in Auckland. <br/><br/>Would go here again in heartbeat.

Went there quite late but they still accommodate us. Ambiance and music is great. Food was exceptional specially the kare-kare.<br/>Though a bit pricey but overall we did enjoy the food.

Really love this place. Have never tried filipino food before and was blown away! The ambiance was great, food was beautiful, the wait staff was funny & friendly. The whole experience was just amazing! We tried the taco pao which was seriously delish! It’s basically Beet root bun with pulled pork teriyaki and condiment. Soooo good! The brioche ensaymada was very warm and cheesy 👍🏻 then we had the beef cheek which was gorgeous too and full of flavour and soft. The lamb was cooked to perfection but I must say the star of that lamb dish was the side dish which was the potato bayleaf beignet! Give me a dozen of those because it’s sooo delicious. It taste a little like dutch croquet. The flavour was just like a party in my mouth! The Kare Kare dish was lovely too. A little strong in the taste but good. For dessert we tried Halo Halo. It’s like shaved ice with mixed fruit & berries, sorbet and my god those ube mousse! Can you please make that ube mousse as is on its own please because it’s delicious!!!! Then we tried banana parfait, which was surprisingly good and tasty! Its wrapped in pastry skin, fried and caramelized. So its crunchy, sweet and gooey and just yummm! We will be back and bring more friends in. Thanks Team and appreciate you looked after us so well. Loved loved it! Thank you.

Excellent food, great atmosphere and attentive staff. The kids’ meals came fast however it was a bit of a wait for the mains. Amazing fusion of Filipino food. We all love what we have tried - Inihaw na tuna, Pata, Taco Pao, Longganisa, kid’s BBQ Pork, Crispy chicken, ice creams and Calamansi Mock tail. They were all delicious. Can’t wait to try the other dishes. We will definitely come back.

Haven’t stopped craving Nanam since the first time I went there! <br/><br/>Food is absolutely to die for. Food is so flavoursome. Service was great. Waitress talked us through every part of the menu. <br/><br/>Mirrors in the bathrooms are a little buzzy but all in all great experience!

We were heading down further to hurstmere road to another restaurant but stumbled upon nanam from outside and it looked interesting so we decided to check it out and was a great decision ! Decor was amazing with its front bar wrapped around the centre of the restaurant and also the comfy chesterfield sofas at the top side of the restaurant . They have live music as well which adds to the ambience .Food was amazing served on black plates and also with nice local beer and cocktails selection too , we had the salmon with banana leave and also the lamb , highly recommended and will be back !

I came here with family after realising they relocated to Takapuna. My goodness if I could score higher I would.<br/><br/>Beautiful space with amazing polite staff who don’t overwhelm you. <br/><br/>For starters we got the sausage, tartare and bao. All amazingly presented and tasted delicious! The sausage portion is small but there were no complaints on the taste (i would recommend ordering two). <br/><br/>Mains we had the beef cheeks, pork belly and tuna. All equally delicious. The sauces that come with the meals are mouth watering! <br/><br/>Dessert we ordered three of the four offered. These too did not disappoint. <br/><br/>Total was $210 for three people, three courses and a round of beer. Would happily return here and do it all again. This place has it all! Service, food, flavour. I would definitely recommend!!!

We loved this restaurant when it was in Royal Oak, so had to try it again and support them in the new Takapuna site. They are super friendly here and the food was amazing. We just came for dessert and left stoked and satisfied with what we got.. will definitely come back again!

I feel quite lucky that I’m spoilt for choice for places to eat in my neighbourhood. The latest exciting place that opened in Takapuna is Nanam Eatery. Nanam is not your traditional Filipino restaurant and that’s what intrigued me and my family so we decided to finally check it out.

Our table of four were well taken care of by the friendly staff. All the dishes were well thought out and on the generous side. Great wine list with bottles priced reasonably. The live guitarist (who apparently plays every Sunday) added to the whole experience.

What a fantastic restaurant with lovely decor, excellent food and outstanding service. We had a large group and were given a private dining room that was discreetly cornered off by light drapes. Perfect for a group function or Christmas party. In the main area there were perfect tables for an intimate dinner for two or more open spaces for a group. The ambiance was esquisit and the staff intuitive, competent, professional and friendly. The food was a delight with sensational flavours, an interesting selection and very well displayed. A definate repeat.

Nice ambience, great service.<br/>Everything was so delicious- from the croqueta (lamb adobo), clams, crispy pork and its zingy dip, octopus in ink. The ovaltine dessert was above average but the halo halo with coconut granita was a beautiful surprise.

We only had dessert here but all i can say is ... WOOOOOOW! LOVED the desserts + the service (service was friendly + quick, decor is really unique/interesting) and the desserts are just melt in your mouth goodness! Would highly recommend coming here for dessert (and i will definitely be back to try the mains)!<br/><br/>We had (in order of photos from left to right):<br/>- Ovaltine<br/>- Halo halo<br/>- Turon

Update August 2018:<br/>We went back with my partners family and were equally as delighted. The dishes lived up to our memories and it was again one of the best meals we’ve had recently. The service is so friendly (although the kitchen was a bit slow and one of our dishes was forgotten). They were quick to remedy any issues and one of the only places to actually highlight a listed dietary need (from the booking info) before we raised it. They had live music which was fun but as the tables are quite long (and we were right next to said music) it was a little hard to hear. We had the octopus, pork hock, beef cheek, wagyu sausage, eggplant, papaya salad and rice between the 5 of us. The dishes look small but everyone was stuffed afterwards. <br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>Original: The last time I dined at Nanam was a year ago in Royal Oak and the menu seems to have become a lot more accessible since then (or perhaps my tastebuds have). We had a pescatarian and someone with dairy intolerances but this was worked around with ease. The service was wonderful and very attentive. My partner and I ate the wagyu sausage entree which was superb, the smoked eggplant dip (also delicious) and the pork (heavy but tasty). I finished this off with the ovaltine dessert. It was easily one of the best meals I’ve had this year and I can’t wait to go back.
