Review Ramen Lab - Takapuna

Butch Jaca Rafols
First customer to arrive, service was quick. Delighted by the karaage and squid tentacles side orders. Then our tasty ramen noodle orders came afterwards. Will come back to taste more.

Stopped by for lunch and wasn't sure what to expect. It was a bit hard to find since it was a bit away from the road. The menu had quite a few different soup bases to choose from. The waitress was very helpful in describe what the different bases were. I went with the large tonkotsu ramen. The soup was delicious. The broth was really flavourful and tasted of pork. Tried the soup of my friends and they all tasted quite different. The noodles had nice texture and the char siu was nice. Also had the karaage chicken and miso dumplings and both were delicious. Ramens are around the $15 price per bowl and $2 for extra noodles. Would definitely return to try the other ramen.

Delicious and well presented. The restaurant takes a bit more care with their presentation compare to the other ramen places. The taste is also quite good. There is also a very cool blackboard with tips on how to customize your ramen order (noodle hardness and soup flavour), something that not many non-Japanese know about.

Another unique place to get your ramen cravings satisfied. All of them looked incredibly tasty. The place itself has got a nice feeling to it. Staff was nice. Overall great

Great tasting ramen under the tallest building in Takapuna. Took them only 3 minutes to prepare! Absolutely amazing! Will definitely be back for more. Service: 5/5 Food Quality: 4/5 Food Quantity: 4/5 Presentation: 4/5 Environment: 4/5 Price per person: $10-$15

Best ramen in the North Shore! Restaurant is modern and clean, not too many tables so the place is cozy. Table service is quick and staff are courteous. We will be coming back again for sure.

Was recommended by a friend to eat here. Tried their spicy tan tan ramen and ice cream mochi. The ramen broth was delicious and thick. Ingredients were all cooked well. Do take note that their tan tan ramen do not come with egg and was a little on the pricey side. Mochi had vanilla ice cream and was nice. Looking forward to trying their Miso and Shoyu ramen in my next visits to the North Shore.

Really nice place. All the staff are very kind. The food is amazing, in special the ramen soup. The place is small but comfortable. 100% recommended

Delicious ramen. Went on Saturday evening around 6 pm. Ordered Tantan spicy ramen and karage chicken. Place is pretty small and busy. Great place for meal with family or friends. One thing to note is that once is full it's pretty hard to move around. Shop is closed on Sunday.

First time visiting Ramen Lab. Had a good soup based Ramen. Decent soup broth and noodle. Egg was cooked nicely to the right level. Pork was yummy. It was quite busy that night but i have no complaints. Will visit again when im in the area.

Such quality good, I’ve been back several times to now get my ramen fix!
Aria
Absolutely delicious ramen. Been coming here for ages and I always get number 3 with thick noodles. The broth isn’t too salty but is creamy and tasty. The thick noodles are chewy and just perfect. Their pork is the best out of any ramen place on the north shore (at least so far) and completely worth the extra money for extras. Staff are always so so friendly and they serve very quickly too.
Josh
Beautiful restaurant with a great relaxed atmosphere. Delicious ramen dishes. Had one with broth and one without which was more gravy-like. Highly recommended!!

The best so far, love the soup, it’s a bit salty but it’s traditional👍🏼

Spicy TanTan Ramen FTW, can’t beat it!

Broth and ramen are excellent. Very satisfying. Chicken Karage is a bit pricey but its certainly one of the best i've had. Coating is light. Six large tender chicken pieces. Would definitely go back for it.
Tian Sweetly
I had miso ramen and it was quite good . The soup tasted was creamy but a little bit salty for me . The egg was perfect. A busy place but staff was friendly.

Best ramen in Auckland!! Will definitely come again!!!!!!! <br/><br/>The profile picture of Ramen Lab in zomato looks so bad and cannot reflect how good the ramen is. Come and taste and you will understand.
Minsoo Lee
The broth is quite good but the noodle quality is very poor letting down the quality of the ramen significantly

Shio ramen + Tamago(Egg)& extra noodle.

I have been to so many Japanese restaurants in Auckland to get ramen, but i think this place has the most authentic Japanese Ramen. Got a Tonkotsu Gyokai Shoyu Ramen and Chicken Karaage and they were both so delicious.
Sabrina Hea
Probably the best ramen you’ll find in Auckland. I went with my family and we ordered the spicy tantan ramen, tonkotsu gyokai shoyu ramen, tonkotsu gyokai shoyu Tsukemen and the shirunashi tantanmen. All were extremely delicious and so much better than the other ramen joints we’ve tried around Auckland. All the noodles for each dish were cooked perfectly. The soup for the tonkotsu ramen was rich and flavourful. Both of the tonkotsu dishes come with soft boiled soy sauce marinated egg which was absolutely delicious. The shirunashi tantanmen has a nice peanutty taste and is a dry noodle dish- I would definitely recommend this dish if you wanted to try something different to your normal ramen. Usually I don’t find Japanese ramen spicy when it’s advertised as spicy. However the spicy tantan ramen really had a good kick to it! I really loved the soup for this one. Service is lovely and we didn’t have to wait too long for our meals despite there being a few tables who ordered before us. I’ll definitely be coming back again!

My friend and I had Tonkotsu Gyokai Shoyu Ramen and Youzi Ramen.<br/>Ramen/noodle is full of noodle flavor if yiu know what I mean?

Get this:<br/>Spicy tan-tan ramen with a large serving, very hard noodles (barikata), Stronger soup (koime and tonkotsu base), 2 scoop pork mince topping, 1 egg topping and a bowl of rice. thank me later. <br/><br/>Also try:<br/>Shoyu ramen with hard noodles (katamen), extra spring onion topping, extra chashuu pork, extra seaweed and 1 egg. yum.<br/><br/>Karaage is very good and dumplings are homemade.<br/><br/>Forgot to take pics but dam is that tasty!
Tearoa Brendon
Taste is fine but amounts of Ramen is like food for squirrels. What can i say... it was alright. But I’ll go when i have no choice of options for dinner instead Mc Donald’s.

Ramen Lab is one of the closest ramen stores in my area. They're very affordable and because of this, it can get very busy during dinner. The service is very fast, and friendly.<br/>I usually get the Tonkotsu ramen with extra corn and the karaage chicken! The karaage chicken is crispy and juicy and it tastes amazing! <br/>I highly recommend this place. (They also have uber eats if you're not keen on waiting for a seat!)<br/><br/>Food: 5/5<br/>Service: 5/5

I ordered the Tantan ramen noodle. I ordered with extra noodles, and thank god for that as it would not have filled me up if I didn’t order the extra noodles.<br/>Food tasted good, but I felt it was overpriced.<br/>Service was good.

Best Ramen in Takapuna. Super good services and very nice Ramen. Lots of good choices. Number 1 & 2 Ramen on their menu are highly recommended.
Em Kay
Delicious noodles with vege options. Our go to for Uber eats and also takeout. Authentic and tasty Japanese noodles. Very flavoursome and always does the trick when you feel like slurping on hot noodles!

It’s been six months since our Japan trip and I am so missing that beautiful country already, the places, the scenery, the people and the food, everything was perfect for us. It’s a dream destination that all we want is in one country. It will be hard to go back again, first I have to apply leave then I have to save some money, Japan is not a cheap destination but it’s all worth it.
Ben Pogson
I think it is safe to say Ramen Lab makes the most authentic Ramen in the city, and it never fails to be what I feel like each week for a dinner out. The Miso Ramen is a great starting point, but having Tantan ramen and dipping noodle bowls are also a must-try.<br/><br/>In recent visits I was informed Gyoza dumplings were no longer on the menu - please bring them back Ramen Lab! I feel as though the experience is just one step away from perfect with those off the menu. They were the perfect accompaniment with your outstanding broth. See you soon!
Heonjung Kim
Went for dinner with two friends. Got the shoyu ramen, it was so salty!! My friends also found their ramens quite salty as well, which was a shame. By the end of the meal all of us just felt really oated from all the water we drank because the ramen was so salty.
Nyan515
I could not find any good point about their ramen . It was not worth the money. Not reccomend. Service was not bad but not good, just average .
Fooodie
Ordered the miso ramen, the vegetarian ramen and the karaage chicken takeaway. The ramens were both really nice, a bit salty but not overwhelming. Unfortunately the miso ramen only had one piece of pork. The karaage chicken was not bad.
Bonnie Hu
Ordered their Tonkotsu Ramen and added extra eggs and corn. The noodles are so fresh and has an amazing texture. The eggs were a little bit too salty since the broth is already quite salty. Generous amount of noodle and corn.
Food2belly
The best ramen I have had in New Zealand, it is seriously Japan standard. They are friendly with quick service, plus cheap lunch deals. Super happy I found this place.<br/>•<br/>Miso Ramen - (12/10, $15.00) -<br/>The miso ramen offered the option of a light or rich broth, I went for the heavy just because I have had too many watery ramen broths in Auckland. Wow it was amazing, rich and creamy coating each noodle. I finished every bit including the soup.
Jin Wan
Overall the look of the shop is fine and the service is fine. The taste for my Tantan Ramen was actually pretty good (if you like stronger flavours and have a slightly saltier palate like me, then you'd love the taste, it's strong and nice). My problem is the paltry little amount of meat they give. My wife was surprised to see just one thin slice of meat for her bowl of ramen. They really should add more meat to this, I don't mind a little less noodles but such little meat is not good enough. Also, the music was a bit trashy and noisy - sort of Japanese rock with bad singing. This detracts from the ambience.
Pukeko
Love the thin ramen noodles. Variety of ramen soup choices. The interior decor looks awesome. It was good that they provide some parking spots. Otherwise, it's hard to find the free parking space in this area.
Helenedonn
I used to not like ramen but the Ramen Lab changed my view about this dish. Firm noodles, flavourful soup, friendly staff (we just had a little problem communicating) But still, yum! Will be back again.
TJ Laurino
5 Stars for really delicious gluten free options!! This place also has one of the softest chashu (pork) in ramen so definitely worth getting extra if you’re a meat lover like me! I got the tonkatsu gyokai shouyu ramen with extra chashu. The staff was very polite and helpful. Would definitely consider becoming a regular at this place. Side dish recommendation: the Karage here is mmmm 😋
CocoOnFire
I was there the Thursday before last week, is it temporary closed now????<br/>Anyway, we went for a late feed at 8pm, the place was still full, music with life band and singer, lucky someone was leaving, we quickly sit down and order our food; because there's other customers ordering takeaway. Food is nice as Japanese standard, ramen is also good but there's better out there.
Max
Instant booking comfirmation, friendly service even tho they were very busy.<br/>I even saw an arrogant lady just walk in and demand a table. The team handled it well.<br/>The Ramen i had spicy tan tan. It was the best ramen i have ever had.
ShuYue Yan
The restaurant looked fancy and clean. We ordered tonkotsu ramen (豚骨ラーメン) and deep fried chicken (唐揚げ). The chicken was crispy and juicy, and the noodles were good too. Their only problem was that they were both TOO SALTY. I had a look at other reviews and found a lot of people had said the same thing. I liked this restaurant and really hope they can actually taste their food and put less salt in. (Or maybe less thick soup?) A sodium heavy diet is not so good for your health. That’s why I rated 2 star. If anyone from the restaurant sees this post please do something about it. I will definitely come back and try again if you can make it less salty!
Epicureans
Saw some great reviews for this place however we are little disappointed with the taste for one of the dishes we placed.<br/><br/>Had Shoyu Ramen and Karage chicken Don. Positives first, Karage chicken dish is really yummy👌. Shoyu ramen broth is very salty and too less quantity of chicken in that dish .. just a 5mm layer to be precise. <br/><br/>The place has some rustic vibes going on , with a live music setup, though it was not being played during lunch hour. <br/>Overall a good place to visit if you are craving for Japanese Ramen type of food.
Lance Law
Personally I haven’t had too much ramen so I won’t go into detail about the ramen. (Sadly my ramen count is probably still in the twenties) This ramen was really filling, and I think it was great value for money! The ramen had a variety of different toppings which I loved. The karage was delicious and is a must order in my opinion. It was nice and crispy yet the inside was still juicy. Karage was the highlight for me.

I had been craving tsukemen (つけ麺) (dipping ramen noodles) for the past week after some of my favourite youtubers introduced a great tsukemen restaurant in Tokyo, so it was really refreshing to find a place in Auckland that offered this type of ramen. <br/><br/>[fyi: Tsukemen is a type of ramen where the noodles are separated from the broth, and are eaten by dipping the noodles in the broth and immediately eating them after. I saw a girl on a nearby table make the fatal mistake of pouring the entirety of her broth into her noodle bowl and I just grimaced, knowing that would make everything so salty and strong.]<br/><br/>So I ordered the Tonkotsu Gyokai Shoyu Tsukemen (豚骨魚介醤油つけ麺) and it was absolutely beautiful. The texture and portion of noodles were great, thick pieces of bamboo shoots were really able to soak up the rich flavours of the broth, and my favourite marinated half-boiled eggs (味付け卵) were also incorporated. However, the real highlight of the dish were the two thick pieces of chashu pork. The pork was so flavourful, smokey, tender and just perfectly melted in your mouth. Never have I had chashu this amazing in New Zealand, and that alone was enough for me to dish out 5 stars.<br/><br/>The Tonkotsu Gyokai Shoyu Ramen (豚骨魚介醤油ラーメン) had the same elements as the tsukemen (except for the noodles being placed in the soup), which meant that it was delicious as well.<br/><br/>The Gyoza (餃子) was light and crispy on the outside and bursting with flavour and juices on the inside.<br/><br/>Service was prompt and friendly, however the cramped seating was slightly inconvenient especially since the table next to us were very loud and inconsiderate (not the restaurant’s fault by any means).
Imogen Trupinic
Wonderful! I'd never tried Ramen before and this was a good introduction. Lots of choice on the menu which is great and service was polite too.

I've tried 2 different ramen so far.<br/>One is Tonkotsu Gyokai Shoyu Ramen - the soup was somehow not united in favour. Especially the bonito flavour was too strong.<br/><br/>Other one is Vegetarian Ramen - a good flavour was lacking in the soup. What really dissapointed me was the noodle. It was thin type. I wanted it to be thick. How stupid of me forgetting to make sure when ordering😢<br/><br/>I was expecting some good 'Umami' Flavour in the Ramen dishes here by reading a lot of good review but the both of Ramen failed to impress me.<br/><br/>My freind ordered Spicy Tantan Ramen. I tried the soup. It was very hot and spicy, that's all.<br/><br/>If the price was this much, the volume of the noodles + the topping should be more generous.<br/><br/>However I liked Gyoza here.<br/><br/>The way of arranging seats is uncomfortable here, not enogh room between them because of the one too big table in the middle.

Food: 4<br/>Service: 5<br/>Interior: 3<br/><br/>We stumbled on this place after driving around takapuna for dinner, then noticed this store was packed full of people. When we came inside, the waitress was so nice and took us to our table straight away.<br/><br/>My partner and I both ordered the tonkotsu shoyu ramen and had a plate of karage on the side. Although it was busy, the wait wasn’t too long. <br/>The ramen was sooo good. The broth was deep and full of flavour which was soaked into the noodles. I feel like many ramen places in New Zealand lack this, so was quite surprised when I took a sip. Each topping played their own roles, giving a unique texture and flavour when eaten with the noodles. The charsiu was fatty and melted away in my mouth (definitely my favourite).<br/><br/>The karage pieces were very large compared to other places. The meat was succulent and the juices burst as you take a bite through the coating. The only downside would be the coating, where I would prefer it to be slightly crispier.<br/><br/>The interior was clean and simple with minimal decorations. But we could constantly feel this freezing flow of air throughout the meal (think it’s from the back door). <br/><br/>DEFINITELY would come back again!!!<br/><br/>

Best ramen I’ve ever had, and such lovely service! Ambience was lovely, staff were great, food came out fast and was DELICIOUS! Will be back for sure!
Veggie Delights
Best ramen in auckland. Only a couple of vegetarian options but it's soooo good. The broth is thick and flavoursome and they are generous with the portions and toppings. Really friendly and quick service too!
Matthew Yang
Watching Asian couples on awkward first dates here where they slurp their ramen and try and think of things to say is an easy 8/10 would definitely come here again.
Charles
The atmosphere was nice, the food was yummy but there was only one piece of pork in my ramen bowl. Was rather weird and for the price is not worth it
Joey
This small restaurant is the best ramen spot in Auckland. I tried ramen in many places around and this little restaurant would beat the rest.
Foodiechica
Went here with my friend as soon as it opened (11:30am) and didn't have to wait long for our food. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen, wich tasted pretty good! Great flavour, and nice presentation. The place started filling up quickly soon after they opened, so it must be popular 😄 Also, Ramen Lab is very #instagram worthy, with a nice ambience.

Went here during a Saturday night and got busy fairly quickly. Luckily we ordered before it got super busy so the food didn’t take too long.<br/><br/>Me and my brother ordered fried squid for the side and both got Tonkotsu ramen.<br/>The fried squid was tasty and wasn’t greasy.<br/><br/>The tonkotsu ramen was really delicious 👌<br/>The noodles are the thinner type of ramen noodle; it was well cooked and easy to slurp <br/>I wish the broth had a bit more ‘porky’ flavour but it was still tasty and not heavy and oily. <br/>Their chasu topping is probably the best I’ve had in Auckland so far, super tender and well made 💕<br/>An egg topping would have made it even more amazing but unfortunately you’d have to pay extra for it :(<br/><br/>I’d really recommend this place if you are wanting to try a good tonkotsu ramen or their other flavours which I am yet to try, it’s reasonably priced for the amount and quality you get <br/>Would definitely come back if I had the chance 😁
Maverick
Ordered Tonkatsu and Rich Miso and it satisfied my cravings. Taste and value for $ 👍👏<br/>Karaage chicken is good but tasted better on other japanese resto though.<br/><br/>Service was fast since it’s not peak hour. <br/><br/>Will definitely come back for the tonkatsu Ramen😍

Visited Ramen Lab on a rainy day! Perfect weather for a perfect bowl of noodle! It was when they first opened so was little short staff, and food came with quite a wait but worth it! Ramen was delicious and satisfied! 😀👍

Googled the best ramen restaurant n this Ramen Lab was on the list:) omg. I love it:) i have tried 3 different things and i love the clear (?)soup with Yuju(?) . Cheap price and love to edd egg best time:)
RamenHunter
My partner and I came here for a late lunch today with high expectations. I've bookmarked this place a while ago however the shore is about far for us to drive. The ramen turned out to be rather disappointing, we got Shoyu and Miso (rich) ramen, both are average, shoyu one is bland and the miso one's soup was super THICK, rather than rich...
Emily Ng
Ramen Lab is always one of my favourites for lunch during workdays. Quality tasting ramen, convenient location, friendly staff. Always satisfies my cravings! Of course, not as good as my favourite ramen shops in Japan but still delicious 😋

I wouldn’t say it’s the best but surely close enough. The ramen is silky and the soup slurpy. It has everything you look for in a Japanese restaurant. I particularly like the canteen setup of the place where tables are set close to each other allowing you to interact with your fellow diners.
Georgina
Very salty based soup . Specifically asked for no spring onions; and the noodles came with spring onions ; did not apologise and was very rude about it .
Paul O
Very quiet on a Wednesday lunchtime. Only two staff on duty and on arrival both were back in the kitchen, meaning we had a awkward wait for a few minutes before we seated ourselves. Rich miso ramen was very satisfying, although the spinach topping looked a bit agricultural. Karaage chicken was generous in size and taste, if a little salty.<br/>
Real Slug
My boyfriend claims that Ramen Lab makes the “best fried chicken in New Zealand”. Not much of a fried chicken fan myself, but I must say that the chicken is nice and soft, full of flavour, and not too greasy. <br/><br/>Good taste and attentive service. Only complaint about the food is that the ramen soup is too salty. Other than that, everything was good. <br/><br/>Every time I visit, I always feel like the place has just opened cus it feels almost empty. Could be that they’re going for a minimalistic approach but I think it could be executed better. <br/><br/>Clean and spacious venue. Have visited many times. <br/><br/>Presentation: 3.5/5 <br/>Taste: 4/5<br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Atmosphere: 3.5/5

Really good food, really great atmosphere, good price :) however, real weird layout of payment and booking situation, and service is moderate. When things get busy it looks like we have to wait a long time without being paid attention but overall highly recommend :)

Lunched here several times, and my absolutely favourite is the Shoyu ramen!<br/>Generous servings, delicious soup. . A great way to satisfy your hunger for reasonable prices. <br/><br/>You can tell authenticity by how they cook the egg, deliciously gooey and compliments the dish so well! Lunch time is a busy time for them, so be prepared to wait a little for seating but it’s well worth it! Staff are friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend and definitely will be back for more!

Good wholesome Ramen!! Great place to introduce new tastebuds to the world of ramen and creamy rich ramen soup bases. <br/>Simple menu, and great to see the gluten free options.

Great experience! Came for lunch on a weekday and although it wasn’t too busy there was a decent amount of people there which is always a good sign! Loved the decor and the service was great! Girl who served us was super knowledgeable and friendly. <br/>Had the tonkutsu ramen and tan tan ramen as well as the karaage chicken to share. <br/>The chicken was the best karaage chicken I’ve ever had, super juicy, light coating that was crispy and flavourful and a decent portion!<br/>Both of the ramens were great too and the bases had heaps of flavour. <br/>Only complaint is that it’s expensive for the portion as we probably would still be hungry if we didn’t get the chicken to share. Otherwise I found everything perfect and would defs recommend this place!

The ramen we had was really good. Forgot the names but it was the 1st and 2nd item on the menu. Also tried the karaage chicken which was also good. Place was not really packed at the time so the service was fast and the staff were nice

great ramen place !! a bit pricey and not much toppings at all but definitely DELICIOUS ! i asked for extra hot for a spicy ramen and i did get EXTRA HOT ! great service - love it ! again, compare to other ramen joints, the topping in this place definitely on minimal side of it. my number one choice for deliciousness and bang for your bucks is still DAIKOKU ramen in the city.
Ying Miao
Amazing soup, great noodles, ok topping. the topping is yum but very little, only one piece of pork, half of an egg, one slice of naruto... Recommend to get the 1.5x noodles, but you can always ask the kitchen to add half noodles! 😃
Arnold Smith
Had gyokai shoyu ramen double size and it was really nice! I loved the egg in there :) the waiter was friendly and professional. Highly recommended!!
Lucas
My friend strongly recommended me to this place so I came and ate. The Tonkotsu Ramen I had here was better than the ones I had in Japan. There were many chooses to choose from so I want to try something else next time.
Deena
I don't eat pork, so going to a ramen place is kind of pointless - not in this case. I ordered the vegetarian ramen with a half serve of chicken karaage - yum!
Benjamin Daisuke Hirata
Great ramen. One of the best ramen restaurant in Auckland. Tonkotsu and syo-yu ramen are the best choice. It's worth a try if you haven't been there before.
Leenix
Rich and tasty broth that is not too salty (no obvious msg). Ordered the Tonkotsu Gyokai Shoyu Ramen with a distinct fish base and came with lots of toppings, very enjoyable. Simple and good variety menu for food and drinks. Friendly and polite staff. Reasonable prices ~$44 for 2 ppl (noodle bowl and side to share).
Max Choi
Very good food but a bit slow. Perhaps just because it was busy. I order a Tan tan ramen and it was by far one of the best I've had in New Zealand so far.
Greg Brown
Huge fan of this place been here a few times and its never disappointed. From shoyu to tonkotsu to the tan tan ramen it's all been delishious! Defiantly some of the best ramen I've had since Japan. Quite a small location and its always been busy when I've gone. Wonderful friendly staff and some awesome Japanese beers.
Jc
Really nice and cosy, and the only ramen joint in takapuna. A welcomed addition. They have probably the best broth in Auckland and the egg is perfect each time. However the toppings and the amount of noodles they give is really minimal compared to other ramen joints. Just a little bit more noodle would be really nice. Would definately go back again. Would recommend always order additional egg
Jovs
Finally a ramen joint in Takapuna, been waiting for something like this in ages. Huge piping hot bowl of ramen and that broth is just amazing. The tantan-men is a pleasant surprise, by far the best version we've had. I just find the protein serving a bit too little - thin slices of pork and had to pay extra for an egg in my tonkotsu ramen. Definitely can't have better ramen when in Takapuna, if not the whole Shore.

4.5/5 Taste<br/>4/5 Display <br/>3/5 Quantity <br/>4/5 Customer Service <br/><br/>Small but mighty.<br/>These ramens are packed with flavours, the soup feels so nice and thick it almost feels like curry. <br/><br/>My noodles only came with one peices of pork :(

Nice place to come to whenever you're craving a bowl of delicious ramen, taste is authentic and reminds me of the wonderful time I had travelling to Japan. We tried their tonkotsu ramen and shoyu ramen as well as their gyoza. Tonkotsu broth is rich and the noodles' texture is perfect for me, chashu is really good but a bit thin. I like the shoyu ramen better because even though the tonkotsu one is tastier, this one is milder and more enjoyable to eat. For the gyoza though, there's really a strong flavour of ginger/vinegar in them, but it's still nice to eat. Overall, I recommend this place if you're in the area and craving a bowl of tasty ramen.
AA
If you are looking for a good Ramen place, you can consider this place. Its a small shop located in Takapuna. Had Spicy Tantan ramen and shoyu ramen. They're good. Ramen is all abouth the broth, so be sure finish it all (drink by the bowl). Customer service was excellent. Japanese standard, as run by the Japs. But could feel its abit short-staffed. But still worth a go if u visit Takapuna.

Came here for dinner, was quite busy and a reasonable waiting time for our meal to come out. <br/>We ordered the tonkotsu ramen, karaage, and negi-miso gyoza. And the highlight would be the gyoza with miso dressing bcs it was flavorful and i have never tried something like this before. Simply to die for! 👍👍 <br/>nothing special for the tonkotsu ramen. However, the broth was really strong which made it tasty!<br/>And last but not least, the large portion of karaage was yummy with its crunchy texture! Super like!👍<br/>
Austen Ganley
Good, authentic Japanese ramen (despite what some reviewers who clearly don't know Japanese ramen think). Broth is excellent - really flavorful and interesting. The chashu is good, but not the best I've had. Nice ambience, with Japanese wait-staff. Only been once, so interested to try some of their other dishes.  Recommended for a taste of real Japanese ramen.
Ian
Came here and ordered the tonkotsu ramen and miso ramen. Both were nice but on the pricey side as the portions were quite small. The soup was well made and not too salty but would've loved a more generous amount of toppings. Great service and would definitely come back again!
Kiwi Eats Asia
Absolutely delicious tonkotsu ramen for the very reasonable price of $12 including seaweed slices, spring onion and chashu pork atop the noodles - highly recommend adding the ginger and garlic oil (free extras on) to up the umami :) I usually don't like chashu pork in my ramen but this chashu was thin, tender and perfect. The broth was the best I've had in Auckland so meaty and delcious like it should be. I have also tried the tan tan (non spicy) ramen in the past and it was delicious but not at all generous with the toppings, especially the amount of mince meat was very disappointing for the price. Gyoza is also great here though a little pricey.

If you're after a warm potent Japanese ramen broth, please don't look any further.. Ramen Lab us your answer.<br/><br/>Broth was superb, noodles - pretty average (as I've had better textured noodles before based on my liking), but overall good experience with friendly service.<br/><br/>P/S: they offer gluten free ramen too

Tried this restaurant based on the Zomato review and it didn't disappoint. The place is small, but nice and simple. The customer service were good too. I really enjoyed the vegetarian ramen I got as it's very flavoursome. <br/><br/>Customer Service: 8/10<br/><br/>Food: 8/10 <br/><br/>Atmosphere: 7/10<br/><br/>Date: February 2017

Great Ramen. The free range ethos is very welcome to any ethical noodle fan. The pork broth is so tasty, thick, moorish  and with a depth of flavour I haven't tasted in a restaurant of this affordability before. The ramen itself slippery and the right firmness. It's extremely generous portions for lunch you could easily share a bowl. I have also had the spicy noodles here - I'm a hardened chili eater, but these were far too hot for me. Be warned you need to have extreme chili toughness for these.<br/> <br/>Friendly service, nice simple decor only downside is the precarious chairs, look cool but very wiggly. Was worried it would fall apart.

Good noodle! tasty food! The soup in the noodle is great! Noodle is delicious! <br/><br/><br/><br/><br/> <br/><br/>

Best Tonkatsu ramen in town. The broth is superb, absolutely fully of rich texture and flavour of pork bone. The texture is creamy and full blast of flavour, it is absolutely brilliant, you can never replace this flavour with enhancement. Absolutely top notch pork broth. The service is friendly and if you decided to give it a go, listen to the waiter advice, have the ginger in the seperate dish as you do not want to ruin the broth. Tonkatsu ramen is absolutely 5 stars for the broth and yes I finish the whole bowl of noodle with the broth for the first time.

Admittedly I haven't had ramen before trying it here, but here seems to be the only place to go. It's a cosy little restaurant hidden away in Takapuna which is very welcoming.  The staff are very friendly and service is excellent. First time coming here we had a few starters and then the mains. They were all delicious - recommend the karaage chicken. But the ramen is amazing - so good I keep craving it! They don't skimp on the portion size or flavouring at all. Definitely a new weekly regular spot for us and we will be back time and time.

Nice to see a ramen place in takapuna.<br/>Had a high hope after seeing positive reviews. Ordered tatan noodles for $16. The taste was pretty average. Nothing amazing. I will definitely try something else next time and hopefully that exceeds my expectation.

Not a big ramen place but very clean and ordered. Operated by Japanese, great service (but a pretty and polite Japanese girl). Not a long list of ramen to choose but adequate. Came with thick broth, need some drink if you feel salty. Reasonable price. Chicken Karaage was too chunky, may be chopped to a smaller portion.

High expectations before visiting ramen lab, i read all the reviews and i wanted to believe the hype. The staff and the atmosphere of the ramen place was really good but the noodle menu was a little disappointing. We ordered the tantan , tonkotsu and gyoza. Gyoza was really nice; and the noodles were also very fresh however, the broth was very mild to my liking. It had a very western friendly broth; which is fine but it just did not deserve more than 3 stars in my opinion. After the meal we were disappointed. I will say the broth was very rich, but it did not have a kick a great ramen should. Tantan had a nutty flavour which my partner was not expecting. Very westernized needless to say. It just wasn't what we expected from this place in general. I would like to give it another try next time.

No nonsense ramen. I've eaten at other Japanese lunch bars but they do not even compare to the taste of the fuller smoother flavor of the pork bone broth ramen lab make's.

This is the best ramen restaurant in New Zealand!<br/><br/>They do not have many choices in their menu, but trust me you will go for the same ramen once you have eaten there!<br/><br/>My favourite is tonkutsu (pork bone soup base) ramen special which a bowl of dry ramen with some ingredients of bamboo shoots, spring onion, char siew, spinach and aside from that you have a bowl of thick soup for you to dip the noodle before putting in your mouth to enjoy! You have the choices of hot or cold noodle to be served.<br/><br/>The restaurant is very small and most can accommodate below 30 people. It is always full during dinner and weekend. Please book your table before you visit.<br/>Sunday is rest day, don't go on Sunday!<br/>Highly recommended. You will not regret.

Food here is no less than amazing!<br/><br/>Though I've never been to Japan before, I don't think it is possible to cook a better tonkotsu ramen then the one they serve here. Broth is the soul of food, and these guys know how to do it. Full of flavor, deep bodied and made with fresh and local ingredients.<br/>Recently I tried the fried chicken and it is unbelievably good!Even if you don't live close to Takapuna, it definitely worth coming here to try this place. You won't regret at all!

Takapuna has needed a decent ramen place and here it is. Outstanding. Ramen was wonderful as was the gyoza. Friendly and efficient staff. Highly recommend this out of the way spot.

After having countless bowls of delicious ramen in Japan, obviously no ramen place in Auckland would compare. However, I would say that Ramen Lab has made it to my second favourite ramen place here.<br/><br/>Our group ordered the tonkotsu ramen and the tonkotsu gyokai shoyu ramen. Both were really good. After trying the soup for both, I still couldn't decide which was the better one. <br/><br/>Did not realise you could upgrade to large (but this is at the bottom of the menu). I would recommend doing that as the bowls of noodles are so good that you would probably be left wanting more. Oh, and also add an egg if the ramen doesn't already come with it.

Came here for Ramen on a cold winter night and was not disappointed. The broth was thick, portion was adequate and everything we ordered tasted great. I especially liked their gyoza. They had one of the best gyoza I have ever tried! They don't have many tables so booking is recommended on busy nights

Ramen is like a Burger. The individual pieces that make up a Burger are bland on their own, but when combined, can make a variety of personalised flavours.<br/><br/>For me, the 'buns' of a Ramen is its broth. The broth needs to support the other flavours and keep them together. The TanTan Broth was so creamy that sometimes it felt more like a curry. The broth accentuated the spiced pork, spinach, and noodles, creating a unique taste which was a delight for each mouthful. <br/><br/>Karage chicken was served with salad and a side of mayo. Crisp and crunchy like fries, the karage chicken was a nice snack to divert our tastebuds during our Ramen conquest.<br/><br/>We all agreed that the gyoza was a fantastic entree. Crisp bottom and chewy wrap of the dumpling didn't distract from the stuffings' flavour, which was authentic and tongue pleasing.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Ramen, either the TanTan, Tonkotsu or Vegetarian.<br/><br/>Overall Grade: A-

My friend recommended this ramen place to me and I am hooked! We ordered the Tsukemen and gyoza. It was my first time trying Tsukemen and I really enjoyed the rich dipping broth. Yum! I am always searching for good ramen and this cute little place did not disappoint.

Having recently just come back from Japan, I've been trailing around Auckland on a hunt for the tastiest/most authentic ramen that I can find that reminds me of Japan.<br/><br/>I ordered the classic: tonkotsu ramen.<br/>The noodles were nice, the egg was perfectly cooked and the pork tender. The only thing is that their broth, despite being delicious, had a taste which leaned more towards a porky flavour than the traditional tonkotsu taste? I don't know how to explain it... But it's still very delicious regardless. <br/>Tip - sprinkle some of their chilli flakes or chilli oil to get that extra depth of flavour.

This place is easily the best ramen place in Auckland. Very rich and flavoursome broths. For thick broths I recommend the Miso and Tantan flavours. The Tonkotsu Gyokai Shoyu ramen (soy/fish/pork base) is also a deliciously unique item for those who don't mind fish flavours.

Great service, very friendly staff.  Had the tonkatsu on my first visit, liked it so decided to come back again.  Had the yuzu shio ramen, very nice. we also shared the karaage chicken.  The ramen comes with only one slice of meat but the noodles and the broth are so delish you don't really mind. But if you are a meat lover then you might be disappointed.  The karaage chicken to me was only so so.  Will definitely come back and try the other ramen on the menu.

Never had such a nice ramen in Auckland until came to here. Ordered Tonkotsu, which is ramen in white, milky, pork based soup, was dished up nicely and tasted so smoothly. Like this.<br/>Really would like to try to take Dumpling, other ramen and karaage(deep fried chicken) next time.

Went with my friend with alot of expectations. Unfortunately the ramen wasn't up to standards that night. We both agreed that the noodles were too mushy and this ruined the dishes. On the bright side, friendly staff and fast service.

This is a really great place!<br/>A hidden gem in Takapuna, if you haven't tried ramen before it will get you hooked! Be sure to try and you will not be disappointed!

If you like ramen, make this your next stop. If you are interested in trying Tsukemen (aka 'dipping noodle'), make this your next stop right now. <br/><br/>The miso ramen from Ramen Lab has a super strong and tasty broth, perfectly done egg, and medium to firm noodles. <br/><br/>Tsukemen is a dipping style noodle where noodles are served separately from the broth. You take a chopstickful of noodles, dip it in the broth, rinse and repeat. Once you are done, ask for a top up (Tsuyu) and the staff will bring you a watered-down Tonkotsu broth base to mix with your Tsukemen broth. <br/><br/>Well worth the visit, try it now!<br/><br/>
