Review Cafe Mimosa - Takapuna

Rachael
I was looking for a breakfast cafe that could suit my daughters dietary needs and came across this gem. The eggs were delicious with the sourdough bread, and the buckwheat gluten-free bread was a great alternative. The iced chocolate and mocha were fantastic, but the highlight was the hash stix with the vegan aoli sauce. They were scrumptious. The service was quick and so friendly. If you're in Auckland, I would highly recommend this even without dietary needs.

Presentation: 5/5 Timeliness: 4/5 Price: 4/5 I'm a meat eater so it caught me off guard (in a good way) that this place is vegetarian(except eggs bene). Enjoyed the protein that wasn't meat.

Update Nov 2023: even better options than before. Recently had the smashed avo and tofu, and vegan tofu Benedict, both were delicious. Finished off with a tasty vegan blueberry muffin. Great place to eat or just for coffee. Excellent food. Friendly staff. Great vegan options. Lovely coffee. Tasty treats. Highly recommended.

Our favourite spot in Takapuna đŸ„° We're still working our way through the menu and have loved everything. My favourite is probably the avocado toast, and my partner loves the cream stew (no photo). Also, had the vegan breakfast and wanted to split it with my mum because we weren't super hungry, and instead of just adding side plates they divided everything up and gave us each our own mini breakfast, beautifully presented ❀ Also, best coffees. I'm obsessed with the maple latte (with oat milk). Photos: Mimosa bowl, avocado toast, omurice, vegan breakfast (halved), coffee and cabinet slices (highly recommend the snickers!), and mushroom crepe.

Absolutely lovely vegan breakfast. I normally don’t opt for tofu as it’s my least favorite meat alternative but I LOVED it on this toast. It was my favorite part of the meal. I’ll definitely be back to try everything else! This Cafe is amazing.

Delicious breakfast/lunch! Great matcha, coffee and smoothies. The food here is on point, balanced and flavourful. I loved everything we tried which was the vegan ramen, French toast was amazing and the tofu bowl! Highly recommend.

First place I ate at after moving to NZ and it was lovely. Ramen was fantastic, atmosphere was quaint and we were treated with respect. Great for vegetarians and morning coffee!

A very cozy vegetarian restaurant. The service was friendly, the coffee was great, and I tried almost everything on their menu and I was very satisfied. Of course, what I like most is the dan dan noodles, which warms the stomach of Asians.

We had a great Sunday brunch here! We had lattes (one regular latte and a matcha latte) and the eggs Benedict with Beetroot Hollandaise sauce. Possibly one of the best Eggs Benedict dishes that I have ever eaten! The service was prompt and courteous. They were busy, but our drinks came out quickly and our delicious meals were served about 10 minutes later. This is one of the few vegetarian/vegan restaurants in the area, and we were not disappointed! They have a good selection of baked goods, desserts, and gluten-free options, too. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, including a covered back patio area. We will definitely return here sometime again soon

Great vegan cream soup and the sourdough that came with it was the best I’ve had, highly recommend. Their matcha latte was very natural and not too sweet or artificial. The atmosphere is very cosy and welcoming.

Staff were warm and friendly. When we arrived it was very busy however seemed slightly understaffed. The food wait was around 30mins, we thought that was very long however the food did turn up well presented and hot. Ordered the waffles, eggs bene (vegan), soup and tofu bowl. The food was very nice and overall great flavour, found that the misogynist was lacking that came with the Tofu bowl. Dessert was snickers and jelly top slices. Jelly was great but I would guess the snickers was a miss. If you are vegan and looking for a nice place for a sit down chat and food I would recommend it. Have been in he past and the wait time always seems to be fairly long, so not recommended during the week unless you have a very long lunch break.

Wanted to go somewhere different so I chose Mimosa, when we walked in there was appetizing food in the cabinet. I ordered again bowl and my husband vegan eggs Benedict. When they came they were very pleasing on the eye and tasted delicious. The staff were very friendly, we'll definitely be back!

If you like vegan or vegetarian dishes, this is the place. There are a good options of vegan food. However we didn’t try the food only because we were there for a coffee.

Just the way I like my cafe - great design, healthy, tons of vegan options, everything is tasty and is prepared on the spot. The bowls are especially good - we had the power bowl which is a nice take on a Mexican bowl with a mixture of cheese, beans, rice and avocado, and a tofu bowl which is served with a lovely cup of vegan miso soup. The smoothies are also great. If you are in need of an energy boost go for the peanut butter smoothie. It is just amazing. Beach access is just around the corner.

I’m not Vegan but this restaurant populated when I performed a search for grain free items. I was pleasantly surprised. It was an interesting taste. Overall I enjoyed my time here and would recommend it for vegans.
Travis Nobles
Absolutely the best vegan ramen I've ever tasted! Really delicious raw, vegan and gluten free treats at the counter too. Good music, nice positive vibe.. great little cafe!
Janine Walker
Really great little Cafe. Tasty food and a real treat for vegans having many different options to pick from.

I got the organic free range eggs ($16) and a coconut mocha ($6). The eggs were good but definitely not worth $16. Also, the greens were just spinach with lemon juice drizzled over. Having mixed greens would definitely lift the dish. The coconut mocha was delicious and was definitely the highlight of the meal. My friend got the waffle and I was shocked to find out she paid $21 dollars for it! For what you get, this dish is not worth the price at all.
Unfortunately the high price you pay for the food here is not a reflection on food quality or portion size (both are lacking). However, the cafe itself is very comfortable with a nice interior design.

Real cute and cosy exterior, somewhere I can spend all morning reading a book and enjoying a tea in. Ordered the Balanced Big Breakfast and although it was impressively vegan (which is still quite rare to find these days) it felt like an overload of tofu. Loved the baked beans and potato hash! The coffee was amazing too, but felt a little expensive at $6 for a small glass of it. Keen to be back to try out the other things on the menu!

Food: 7/10
Ambiance: 8/10
Service: 6/10

Mimosa is a really cozy cafe to visit on your weekends. The environment is warm and relaxed which was a perfect spot on the windy Saturday I visited.

They have a unique selection of homemade vegan cabinent treats and also a full food menu with a reasonable amount of beve4age selection.

The Matcha Latte here (unsweetened) is one of the best and authentic I've had in Auckland so far. The barista prepares the matcha by actually whisking it with the proper equipment so it fully dissolves in with the milk (unlike some places where you can see lumps of matcha just not mixing in).

The cafe gives a peaceful and warm atmosphere, and overall is very clean and tidy and is a great place to start off your weekend!
Tasteful Seconds By Kyrsta Lynn
With homework on my mind and on the verge of sickness, I went to Mimosa. I ordered a turmeric latte and was very surprised at how tasty this was. I was impressed by the presentation and the atmosphere of the cafe is adorable with extra seating in the back. While there were not great plug in's for doing homework on a laptop here, the area was still great. Do not suggest doing school work here.
Brandon Brooks
Cosy and friendly cafe, tasty sourdough toast and hardworking but relaxed staff, and very nice. Chill atmosphere and great coffee too, could become a favourite hangout.
Pulp Culture
On the menu, a rendition of a Japanese style curry using a combination of fresh root vegetables and brown rice that elevates you and leaves you feeling fueled and satisfied without sacrificing flavor. A refreshing difference from the popular katsu curry, that leaves you feeling extremely satisfied but induced into a food like coma that leaves you couch-ridden. The cabinet is filled with nourishing salads and baked treats. A peanut butter rice snap that lures the sweet tooth with its sticky, sweet and crunchy charm and beautiful rainbow rice rolls that juice and crunch with every bite. I may come back to have something familiar or to adventure and try something new, but either way, I am always surprised by the food served at Mimosa. It has become a place that relaxes, nourishes and intrigues me.

Calming atmosphere and great use of recycled retro furniture. The staff were polite and friendly. The menu had an authentic Japanese home-cooked feel to it. I had the miso tofu and vegetables with rice. The miso sauce was bloody delicious - full of umami and took what would have been a very average dish to the next level. Overall, an enjoyable meal and would definitely go there again with my vegetarian friends.
Caitlin Elise
Such a great experience at Mimosa yesterday. My partner and I popped in for brunch and ordered the coconut waffles and eggs benny. His eggs were perfectly poached and he enjoyed the flavour combination. My coconut waffles were deliciously spiced and the caramelised pineapple was incredible! Our long blacks were so good that we ordered a couple to take away. Definitely returning to try more menu items! Thanks Mimosa for a wonderful experience!

Chose Mimosa for a birthday brunch with Mom and brother. We all raved about the food. We had the pancakes, muesli and smashed avocado all of which were really good. We’re a near lifelong vegetarian family, so it was a delightful find. Look forward to going back.
Sophia
Love the private, cosy outdoor area out the back - perfect for a peaceful lunch or for reading! I enjoyed their lychee & coconut panna cotta with fresh fruit, as well as their avocado, mushrooms & halloumi. The matcha latte could have been more flavoursome. Overall, happy with the friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere.

Love the food here! I love it even more that it’s Japanese fusion cause I love Japanese food! The staff are very nice too. Quite a small cafe but there is also “backyard” seating for a more cozy feel. I have been here a few times and don’t mind coming back. They have a good range of dessert but I don’t recommend to here for that. Go for the mains!

Interesting experience. I have never enjoyed vegan food in my life, but Mimosa was the place to change my point of view, Vegas do actually have a great food.

Rubhurb pana cota was very great breakfast to start the day, a bit of fruit smootie/mash, with some muesli and fruit pieces, very delicious. Also their barista is up to highest standards, tasteful coffee with a piece of art on top, amazing place.

Vegans will love it, also a wide range of breakfast foods you can choose, so a bit of everything for everybody.
Mya S
The food is so healthy, presented beautifully and is always satisfying here. I also love the cabinet food options which are special to have for a vegan foodie as we usually have to go without!
Jenny Aquino
The store is really cute, i ordered a matcha latte it came fast but it was not as hot as i expected. Anyhow, I still recommend it its a perfect place to meet up. :)
Jeannette Salim
When we walked into this cafe it was not obvious that it was vegan. I think there should have been signs on the door indicating it was vegan. The food was expensive, considering there was no meat and it was bland.
Winni Wu
Ordered a piccolo and a 2shots fw. The barista was trainee a front girl to make our coffee. Service was ok. Take our order fast then waitress an us all waiting for the girl to practise on our coffee. After 10min we got our coffee. My one was sooooo sour . Only take a sip n left all coffee. My friend one is just ok.
Pyjlover
Nice brunch at the cafe. Food are very fresh. As a Vegetarian Cafe, it tastes quite good. Forgot to take photo for the Japanese tea. It is quite special green tea compare with other kinds.
Ryder
Immaculate nutritious food always served with stunning presentation. Everything I have tried has been delicious. Friendly staff. Always excited to visit!

The food was really good, the presentation of the food was amazing too. The staff there were really nice, but just a little pricey for me :).

Mimosa is a great spot for vegetarian and vegan options. All the cabinet treats look amazing. The snickers bar and bliss balls are delicious. I ordered the AçaĂ Bowl and my friend ordered the Dragonfruit Bowl. Both were great size, fresh and tasty. The toppings were a great selection of fruit, nuts and seeds. I definitely would come back for another bowl or smoothie.
Viyola Dsouza
Very friendly staff and lovely owner who believes in eating healthy, organic and fresh produce. Very flexible and adjusts to all types of diets.
We enjoy our weekly turmeric latte and freshly baked muffins. The smoothies are delicious and so also the mimosa bowl - brown rice, avocado, home made beans, cilantro, sour cream (or a vegan option), quinoa etc.
We quite often buy ourselves a delicious treat - an orange and almond cake which is moist and melts away, but quite filling due to the almond meal.
Jessica Marson
Literally come here all the time as I work in Takapuna area. Tried the porridge for the first time today and it’s so yummy. The staff are always lovely. 💕
Dini
Lovely little family café which makes vegan food taste almost "normal". Great smoothies, food, snacks and service for a really good and affordable value.

Mimosa is a real gem for those that are vegetarian and vegan. We stopped here for brunch on Sunday and enjoyed the food and hot beverages. The cafĂ© is really cute and homely. Considering the cafĂ© is vegetarian / vegan, there is still plenty to choose from (food, smoothies and cabinet) with some great options such as the Red Velvet waffles. For drinks we ordered a flat white and a Peanut butter latte. The coffee was Kokako and delicious, we’d easily make this our coffee go to if we lived over the shore. The latte was also good - they nailed the nutty to sweet ratio! Unfortunately, the red velvet waffles were sold out when we arrived so I opted for the Creamy mushrooms with spinach and midnight baker bread. The mushrooms were really tasty and not too creamy. I hadn’t tried the midnight bakers bread before but it went well with the mushrooms and was a nice lighter alternative. My partner ordered the Eggs benedict. The dish was a generous portion and had plenty of veges – pumpkin, mushroom and spinach. For a vegan/vegetarian cafĂ©, we were pleasantly surprised and would dine here again when in the area.
Jess
Super yummy and perfect portion sizing. Only thing to complain about is the pricing, side of avo was toooo expensive and smoothie was slightly overpriced otherwise delicious! Definitely coming back :)
Alice
Definitely one of my favourite cafes! Red velvet waffles were outstanding as well as the coffee. Staff are friendly and I love their outdoor seating area, such a nice atmosphere :)
Hazel.crook
Loved this place and wish I'd found it sooner! Really lovely food, best presentation too. Loved the outdoor seating too. Their cabinet treats are to die for, and the peanut power smoothie is fantastic. Will definitely be back here.

Love this cafe very much! So many vegetarian/vegan options that are extremely delicious! They have all kinds of meals, treats/sweets, smoothies and coffees! I got red velvet waffles with coconut whip and drizzled white chocolate and it tasted as good as it sounds + looks! Lovely staff and really nice environment/surroundings 🌿

Service- sensational. Attentive and friendly staff.

Food- delicious
Highly recommend the shakshuka (see picture- they served it with 2 slices of sourdough. We were so hungry we ate one piece before taking the picture) . 2 runny poached eggs in a spicy tomato sauce topped with olives and feta. Delicious! I'd go back again and again for this! Mopped the dish clean with the sour dough. Shakshuka done right!

The coconut and apple polenta was well balanced. Subtle coconut milk flavour paired with the sweetness of the cinnamon apples and tart raspberry was perfect. If you're after something not overly sweet, then this is a great breakfast to start your day with.

Not your regular banana bread- the banana bread had sultanas and walnuts. Toasted with butter and it was a winner. Even my picky 2.5year old approved.

We also ordered the turmeric, carrot and ginger cold pressed juice. Yum! Great to ward off winter nasties and tastes great!
Mary
I love this little cafe BUT there is a big room for improvements:

1) TOO MUCH SOY PRODUCTS -

2) The portions are way too small for the price.

Mimosa is a hidden gem in Takapuna. Usually cosy and bustling, we were surprised to find it relatively quiet at lunchtime. Service was quick. We ordered the Macrobowl and Tofu Benedict with drinks; highly recommend the hot chocolate for a bit of indulgence. The meals were slightly spendy but full of fresh flavours. The menu is aimed towards health conscious customers (especially vegans/vegetarians) who won't compromise on taste. Keen to try out the peanut butter latte next time! With Matt Knott

I have been trying to find good matcha lattes around Auckland, in particular the North shore. Mimosa definitely delivered one of the better lattes. One of the downsides I found was that it lacked actual matcha flavour. Possibly not enough powder? Overall really good matcha latte and was the perfect temperature

First time to mimosa this morning

Ordered the green cold pressed juice - I wasn't a fan it was a bit grassy tasting for me
The pea soup was AMAZING!!!!
Easily the best soup I've ever eaten. absolutely will be back for this dish

The ploughmans platter was also incredible - easily enough for two - the mushroom pate was delish, also enjoyed the olive tapenade. Fresh - light and filling
Had a very tasty açaí bowl on Sunday for Mother's Day. My mum got given a little vegan bounty bar courtesy of the cafe which was a very nice touch

Absolutely love this place! It's got to be the best place in Auckland for vegan breakfasts. Lots of sweet and savoury healthy breakfast and lunch options. The Japanese curry is good for lunch and the acai bowl or big breakfast are good for breakfast. The smoothies and cabinet food are good also. The staff are very friendly and it has a nice atmosphere. A definite go-to
Chloe Lucas
We ate at Mimosa this morning for the first time and unfortunately one meal was served a good 5-10 minutes before the other. Something that can so easily be avoided in the service industry, that was unfortunately quite disappointing especially considering the meals were paid for together.
❀Irene
Love it! Gonna try the veggie big breakfast and Curry rice next time❀
Absolutely my type of cafe. Today we try the orange cake, strawberry cake and matcha latte. We recommend the orange cake. Strawberry cake taste ok as we don't enjoy coconut cream that much. Warm matcha latte make me feel warm.
I will definitely come again ❀

I love this place I go there everyday for my coffee and the muffins are delicious. Staff are so friendly and always remember my order. Highly recommend you check it out especially if your Vegan

Came here once, the food is super duper healthy but all honesty I think the only popular dish is the smoothie bowl. I ordered mushrooms on toast and it looked good but personally didn't vibe with the earthy organic tasteless feel. Everything is super over priced, I personally love organic healthy food places but this one really didn't get me. The service was great and so was the cafe. A bit small though. I'm sure any organic vegan food lovers would appreciate this cafe more but it didn't work for me
Saskia Kiefte
Went here for lunch today; I ordered the Mimosa Power Bowl. I was a little disappointed with the meal, it felt on the small side for $15 and there was nothing special about it - felt like something I could have made at home. Wouldn't recommend this dish.
In saying that though my sister got the Eggs Benedict, which was really nice and if I went back I would probably get the eggs, or try something else on the menu. The eggs were pricey ($18), but that seems to be the norm for Cafes these days so not sure if there is a lot that can be done about that!
Eden Wood
Such a cute little cafe tucked away on Lake Rd. The menu is small but offers a lovely variety of sweet and savoury. The acai bowl is one of the best I've ever had. Creamy and smooth with vibrant flavours!

Just came back to re-write this review. I have been a few times before and had smaller snacks and afternoon tea, I loved it, but couldn't give a full and fair review because I hadn't yet eaten a main meal off their menu. Today I went back with 4 others and we all had lunch and desserts and drinks. This cafe is even better than I had previously thought. Beautiful vegan fresh organic food..... super healthy and cooked with alot of care and love. There is also variations on the menu that aren't vegan, (like the eggs Benedict that my daughter had and loved), they have a wide selection of meals and every single thing we ate was heavenly. The owner was lovely, super friendly, and, on my way out she gave me a taster of a new drink that she had made called a turmeric latte.... it was amazing, turmeric, cinnamon, almond milk, and a few other yummy treats :) Every single thing that we bought here was amazing and I cannot wait to return. A very definite 5 stars. :)

Have been dining here off and on, for over a year now. Definitely one of the most consistent cafes on the North Shore. Have never left disappointed, great coffee, and most of all excellent staff and service.
Nikki Lockwood
My sister has a dairy intolerance so we ended up at Mimosa so she could have something that wasn't eggs on toast. Good god there are so many options for anyone with intolerances at this place, and the staff are willing to tweak to cater for any super-particular needs. As I am not dietarily-challenged I was almost certain the food would be weird and disgusting, I was so so wrong! The vegan waffles were to die for as was the vegan cacao porridge - the cabinet food also looked amazing but we were stuffed! Might need to come again!
Imogen Constantine
Wonderful service, the staff were really friendly. Excellent vegan and vegetarian food. The service was so fast! I had the vegan, gluten free mushrooms on sourdough and it was so good, one of the best vegan meals i've had out. Both me and my mum loved it, will definitely be coming again :)
Thewonderer
My partner had been wanting to try this café for sometime, albeit the interior is nice and staff friendly, the coffee was very disappointing. Very weak and luke warm so asked for an additional shot, but still just warm milk! After 2nd return I was refunded for my coffee (1st time I've had to do it in 3 years of living in AKL), my partners soy coffee was also binned up the road. Not sure why as it was Kokako coffee which is normally a descent cup. Did have a muffin too, which was good. Probably won't be going back though
Casslyn Tee
Nice cosy place to relax. I am not practicing raw/clean eating per se but I do enjoy the desserts (and coffee!!) here. Very clean and easy on the palate :) love the attention to details. Everytime i visit theres bound to be somethg new to try and experience.
Michael
Mimosa is one of my favourite lunch spots on Takapuna just because the food and coffee seems to be consistently good.

Menu picks : Cacao and Almond smoothie / mimosa bowl

Fresh healthy and delicious. The crispy tofu looks amazing. Although their portion was a bit small for the hungry boys! Really cute outdoor seatings as well. Definitely a go to when in Takapuna
Couple Of Cheap Westies
Cute little cafe tucked away in Takapuna. Lots of organic treats! Small but quiet cafe on a Friday morning. I ordered the acai bowl which was amazing and packed with nutritional goodies!
Lmrliu74
Warm welcome from their owner all the time. Service is great! Food-wise, I like their soba (Japanese cold noodles) that is mixed with fresh vegetables and a very yummy light soya sauce. Unlike some places that use a lot of MSG and artificial seasonings, the food tastes refreshing in Mimosa, which emphasizes the importance of healthy food. It is a great alternative if you are sick of the ordinary cafes. Will definitely visit again!
Katharina Wulandari
One of the best organic food cafés I have ever been. I like the interior of the cafe - so fancy and retro!
I ordered choc brownie (GF) with goji green tea. They were YUM! The brownie was so rich in chocolate and melted in your mouth, enriched with some healthy nuts and bits. The green tea was served well which made me relaxed and chilled. Look forward to try another menu here!

Room for improvement: the customer service should be improved i.e. the waitress/cashier should be more friendly toward customer, at least smile although it has been a busy day for them. Also, more knowledge in tea should be learned by the staffs so it can help the customer to choose the drink well.
Pietro
Little nice café with a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The coffee was really good and the menu selection will please even the most difficult vegans. The vegan banana pancakes were delicious and portions are big.

Since I heard so many good things about this place I finally had the chance to come around and check out what they have to offer. I had the Mimosa bowl which is quite a simple dish, plain brown rice on the bottom, some beans in a tomato sauce, a slice of avocado, few slices of olives and sour cream on the top. I personally think this dish is too simple and a little bit blend, it may need some sauce or some other flavours. I did like it, but it's something I could do myself at home and wouldn't cost $14. Others might love this dish, it just didn't work out for me. Still I will return because I'd like to try some of their smoothies and cakes. Coffee and macaroon were very nice. Here is.my rating: Coffe: 5. Macaroon: 5. Lunch: 3.

I went to Mimosa around midday Friday, with my girlfriend who has been wanting to try this little cafe for a while now as she is vegan. The decor is really nice, reminded me of Cocos Cantina on Krd a little (where both my girlfriend and I have worked, foh and boh) while as a meat eater I was skeptical about enjoying the completely vegetarian/vegan menu, the eggs Benedict was delicious, equally as good as my benny at Little King in Milford, minus the bacon, and heavy hollandaise, I left feeling really full but not like I needed to pass out which was great. My girlfriends vegan banana pancakes where really nice, very dense but flavourful pancakes with a vegan salted caramel (made of dates?) fresh banana and banana nice cream. We both had the cacao almond smoothies which where really nice, while not as thick as others I have tried the flavour was bang on and they where nice and cold which is something so many places get wrong. Coffee was perfect aswell. The only thing stopping me giving this place 5 stars was the fact that, while you have to order at the counter, which doesn't bother me at all, I placed my order first, and as my girlfriend was in the process of standing up to place hers, a friend of the girl working the till walked in at the same time and started a full blown conversation, leaving my girlfriend standing awkwardly for about 5 minutes before interrupting and asking if she was able to place an order so that our food would come out at the same time. How does this even happen? Is it not obvious that two people sitting together and paying about $35 a head would want there food and drinks at the same time? I thought it was ridiculous and really rude. Other than that service was quick and I really liked how the lovely Asian girl in the kitchen came and delivered our meals, answering my question about the vegan hollandaise. We will definitely be back, and hopefully I can change my review back to the original 5 stars I would have given!
Small cafe tucked away in takapuna
With very healthy choices and a cute interior filled with vintage accessories will revisit !
Had their winter soup and loved it. Was brothy but not too rich
Coffee was also good
Sitting by their window side makes you feel like you're in a movie 😂
Isabella
such a lovely cafe! friendly staff and great healthy food :) got the raw beetroot salad and a coffee, both were great! will definitely be coming back to try more off the menu
Caitlin Snodgrass
Great almond milk coffee! Always yummy. The raw toffee pop is delicious! Great meals to get takeaway with a nice small option range. Smoothies are slightly on the smaller side compared to other "health" good cafes.
Jade Woodhall
Poor service and not very friendly staff. I asked for water and the employees response was 'oh we don't have any jugs at the moment' When there were dirty ones on the uncleared tables.. Ordered the Vegan creamy mushrooms for an expensive $17 and the portions were TINY. Literally two pieces of sourdough bread with a stingy topping of mushrooms. Although food was nice is not worth the cost. Would not recommend and would not go again.
Angela (A Style Collector)
I really like this cute little cafe. The decor is nice and quirky. The service is great too. They have a good selection of healthy meals and also treats in the cabinet.

I also like their coffee. I've been here a few times and the last time I went they had a good deal of a muffin and coffee for $7. The muffin was nice and soft and paired well with the coffee. I had their pina colada drink too which was refreshing.
Jaffa
Quaint little spot in Takapuna for a coffee and sweet treat! Reasonably busy little nook tucked away with quirky lighting and design! Strong coffee for a good kick (they use Kokako coffee). Will definitely come here again!

Officially my favourite Cafe😍 The service is so kind and very friendly. The food is amazing and can't wait to try the whole entire menu! Would definitely recommend this place to anyoneđŸ™ŒđŸŒ

I ordered the organic acai bowl. The taste was sour and had a bitter after taste. The toppings were nice though but would not recommend ordering this for those with a sweet tooth 😋
Sophia
Love this cafe. Really friendly. Good food and great atmosphere. Their desserts are fantastic. I was so happy they offered another type of non-dairy milk. LOVE THIS PLACE!
Rose
it was alright but not as good as we expected. it is in a very good location though and is vegetarian/organic which is good. although the food wasn't too good and took a while to come

Came here with my mum for lunch a few days ago. The waitresses welcomed us in and we sat out in the quiet back section. The decor is lovely and there's even an outdoor heater! We got (left) a Ginger Banana Bread Smoothie and (right) the Blueberry Smoothie, which were both delicious and a decent size. For lunch I had the Raw Vegan Pizza and the scrambled eggs. The pizza was delicious but not very filling and the eggs were undercooked. They were sent back to get properly cooked eggs but the dish came back with the exact same eggs and soggy bread, however the waitress apologised profusely and refunded the eggs which we thought was very nice of her. A lovely spot overall but may need to make bigger portions and cook eggs for longer

went to mimosa for lunch and it was a cute little cafe! Nice and warm in there too. Decided to get the avocado, haloumi and beetroot relish sandwich which my mum got too, and it was SO GOOD! Would definitely recommend. Got the raw cacao and almond smoothie which I thought was going to be yuck but it was amazing. I also got the caramel chocolate cake which is vegan and was amazing too! loved the icing too! definitely would recommend you go, even if you're not vegetarian/vegan. My mum loved her coffee too.

Mimosa is an absolute gem of a cafe, located conveniently close to Takapuna Beach making it the perfect place to head to as the weather warms up. I arrived on a Sunday morning to find it pleasantly humming, yet certainly not overcrowded. Upon looking over their extensive selection of amazing vegan food (and being kindly shown which items in the cabinet were suitable for my dietary requirements), I decided to get the 'Vegan Coconut French Toast', which was impressively able to be ordered gluten-free. I perched myself at the sunny window seat and proceeded to thumb through the weekend paper provided by Mimosa.

The wait wasn't at all lengthy in my opinion, but one of the waitresses came over to inform me that a group of eight had just squeaked in ahead of me and offered to get me a hot drink whilst I waited. I settled for the peppermint tea, which came promptly, followed by my french toast not long after. It was delectable! Two exceptionally generous and thick slices of what I understood to be pan-fried nut and fruit bread, drizzled with glittering maple syrup and a smattering of soft raspberries. There was also a berry yoghurt dip on the side - much to my delight, the dish wasn't at all overly sweet (as many french toasts are), rather it was soft, spongy, and slightly sticky. The portion-size was perfect.

In terms of service, the waitresses and barista were all happy and engaging, and didn't mind me taking my time to order. This, accompanied by the unique wooden decor and almost vintage-inspired interior made for a very pleasant Sunday brunch indeed. Overall, I found Mimosa to be a lovely spot (note that there was outdoor seating available too), which I shall certainly be frequenting as we head towards the summer months.

Food: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Value: 4/5

A delightful whole foods cafe in Takapuna with a bright and airy back patio.
The food, service, and decor is adorable and will please just about everyone.
Great place to pop by for a wholesome meal or snack. The cabinet is crammed with sweet and savoury goods that accommodate almost any dietary requirement.
One of the nicest and cosiest places in Takapuna. Everything is very nice. Prices are good, especially counting that raw/vegan food is usually expensive in restaurants/cafes. Wish they could have more dairy free milk options except almond and soy milk, as well as more sugar free options:)

Gorgeous little cafe. Has a lovely atmosphere, I absolutely love the funky, mismatched decor. The food was absolutely delicious! Only confusion was the eggs with the vegan hollandaise sauce.

The formulae for a good cafe is simple and so few get it right. These guys have, There service does not leave you waiting at your table for your coffee, all the food looks freshly prepared and is not cold or frozen from the cabinet.

Fantastic coffee, food and service sums this place up.

Mimosa is a genus of, say 400 species of herbs and shrubs... Serving only organic and fairtrade ingredients (and now totally vegan), there was nothing to hide. Delightful :)

I visit Mimosa most days, for a soy latte and a blueberry muffin. The staff are always friendly, the coffee and muffin are always nice too. It's a great start to the day. The decor is just the most 'instagrammable' thing ever - so many cute little touches! I used to visit there for lunch fairly often but since the menu has become fully vegetarian it's a bit less desirable for me, but there are still some nice things on there. I can really recommend the smoothies too - definitely not just syrup and milk like so many places seem to do.

Its a very nice, well decorated cafe. Food if wonderful and yum. Very easily located and near to the Takapuna beach. I went with my bf and We enjoyed the environment of the cafe and its interesting book collection. Woul like to play the ball maze toy next time.

This is the first time we went for lunch to Mimosa. Ordered Herby beans worth $14, the plate looked like it was a kids meal plate (beans portion was as big as a hummus dip from the supermarket)! After asking to the girl who served us about the quantity, her response was she is new in the country! Although food taste was okay, quantity is terrible. In the name of organic food this is a total rip off. Little Bird cafe is a raw organic cafe with similar price range but great quantity and better taste. DO NOT recommend this place at all.

Mimosa Cafe has everything going for them, but greatly disappointed in the whole experience. Reserved a table and was seated in the back of the cafe crammed next to the kitchen/ dishes door. After waiting 15 minutes for menus we ordered coffee/food. Each meal came out in 20 minute intervals (They must of cooked 1 at a time) with 3 people in the kitchen. And then coffees came after food also in intervals of 5 minutes each. 1 meal was completely forgotten. 1 meal was cold. Cafe wasn't even busy to excuse this kind of service.
Food was good, but they really need to get a bit more organized!

This is the 3rd time I have been here, the atmosphere of Mimosa is so lovely and warm, as are the staff. I have nothing but praise for this quaint little cafe, an absolute hidden gem. Coffee was great and food great every time.
Definitely recommend coming here for a coffee and cake or even a small breakfast, and you can feel good about the fair trade coffee!

I've only been once so far but loved it. Got the great package of a coffee (Mocchachino) and a muffin for only $6.50. The banana chocolate muffin was just perfect, it just tasted very authentic and not too sweet. Also the organic coffee was super yummy. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was very inviting. I'd highly recommend it!

The only constructive feedback would be for the opening hours. I know it's not just me who sometimes also likes to go to a cafe after 4pm.

I find myself coming back to Mimosa more and more now, but how could i not?
Charming and quirky interiors are a wonderful addition by their Japanese owners, its a cosy cafe to enjoy a cup of coffee or meal.

Food is healthy and fresh, Vegetarian too if that works for you!
Some dishes are Japanese inspired with most of them a vegetarian dish. But you won't be missing any of the meat anyway.

Menu has changed from the one listed above but only slightly.
Mimosa bowl was a good filling meal for a cold winters day a great combination of flavours for a sort of Tex-Mex rice bowl.
I had visited with my sister for breakfast and ordered the bagels with avocado spread topped with tomatoes and sprouts. My sister ordered the poached eggs.
Bagels were tasty but eggs were average according to my sister.

The cacao smoothie was amazing and my go-to for a caffeine fix with its smoothie goodness.

I think this place is sooo cute. A little too small if you're going in a huge crowd. They have a big table out front that makes you feel right at home with the vases and shelves with books and quirky little display items. We initially sat down the back courtyard but felt a little awkward because I think it was still under renovation... Or the whole wooden DIY theme just didnt work. The food is interesting, being a fusion of Japanese and cafe style food. Also suitable for people looking for healthier food options. Staffs are also super friendly , overall great service!
Two Honest Truths
We ordered the Mimosa Bowl ($13) - which had a range of ingredients including brown rice, avocado, white beans, and some sour cream. A very light and healthy mix which was tasty and refreshing.

Eggs Benedict with Bacon ($18.50) - this was, shall we say, boring to eat. There wasn't anything special that made it memorable. A poorly made bene.

Blueberry Smoothie ($7) - thoroughly enjoyed this drink. It was sweetened with honey and full of flavour.

The cafe also has little trinkets and fun games around like the wooden robot and penny game. The owner is Japanese so you will see Japan-inspired dishes with the odd sushi roll there too. Even though the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy, the dishes took a long time to arrive considering they were only making our order. The plates came out separately, at roughly 20-minute intervals. By the time the second came, the first was growing cold.

For the full review and more photos visit: http://twohonesttruths.com/category/mimosa/
