Review Little Red Cup - Takapuna

Jae Park
Very reasonably priced food, probably on the lowest side I've seen. Despite this, it's in a very good location and the food was high quality and they have some original items you don't normally see in a cafe. I'd definitely come here again. Parking is a little scarce but wasn't too hard to find parking.

I was very impressed with this small but vibrant cafe on the outskirts of Takapuna. We opted for the Malaysian style options (the clay pot chicken and the seafood laksa). The food came out quick, within 15 minutes. The clay pot chicken is definitely worth trying, it was satisfying and leaves you craving for more. The service was excellent! One of the waitresses even chased me halfway down the road to return a hat that I left - thank you!

Friendly small cafe in Takapuna with yummy food. One of the main dish-Asian pot rice-the portion is a bit too small, not enough as a main even for my girl.

Always good value for money :) I didn't get the creamy mushroom this time but try it when you're there!

I had the "Keep Fit" with grilled chicken and my husband had it with salmon. We both loved the meal. It was beautifully presented, and very tasty. I think there was a deal on and we each received a free coffee as well. There is a very extensive menu and we will be back to try something different.

I ordered a takeaway Latte from here which was very nice. I didn't order any food however the sandwiches, slices & finger foods on display looked fresh & well presented. Inside the Café was clean & fresh. On street parking available on Hurstmere Rd along with a few other eateries. Staff & owner very friendly.

Staff is really friendly. We had a creamy mushrooms and a big breakfast. Both meals were yummy. I love creamy mushrooms and those ones were possibly one of the best ones I ever had. We had a GrabOne voucher. I will definitely go back.

Have been a few times. Could work on greeting customers when they come in. Like doesn’t hurt just to say hi. Other than that service is good and big compliments to the chef the food is sooo tastey and cooked well. Iv had French toast, big breakfast, eggs beni and Thai chicken salad, recommended them all and the coffee and ice drinks a pretty good too :)

Great. inexpensive Malaysian Street food. Great flavours - try the Thai Green Curry & Clay Pot Chicken Rice plus the Laksa. We paid $60 for two of us and took our own wine.

Excellent breakfast this morning. Just a perfect eggs bene with the ideal amount of hollandaise sauce. Coffee was great and service friendly. My companions loved their smashed avo brekkies!!

A great little place, my first visit was as a passer by, now I make the note to stop in for a coffee and bite to eat. The small details on shop fitout are noticed to create an ambiance, plenty of love and thought gone into this place.

Ordered the eggs on toast, poached with multi grain. Had it with a good coffee. Eggs were great, very clean. Service with a smile :)
James Mathieson
Great service and great food/coffee.

There's a battle out there for our café dollars and I hope these guys survive it. It's not as flashy as some of the other places. But the food is good with so called 'get fit' and paleo options. And free coffees with meals at the moment. Good luck to them.
Bruce Haycock
Great person to person table service, beyond professional politeness. Eggs just right, chai latte spices different but superb. The mesculen salad pieces a bit tired

Great service and lovely food. Loved the pictures and the kids area. Used groupon so was a win win. Great call going here for breakfast. Thanks guys 😁

Lovely little place with delicious food and a nice atmosphere. We really liked the decorations.

Little red cup is a beautiful cafe in Takapuna. It's a very warm, welcoming and cozy place. Food is fresh and fast, coffee is top notch. I enjoyed the food and nice atmosphere.

Amazing food. Great place if you are looking for Malaysian food🙂. Loved the claypot rise and curry laksa ❤. Reminded me of home. Lovely place if you are looking for delicious food and coffee near the beach.

Probably the worst experience ever- Both Food & Service. Highly recommend everyone to avoid this place.

1. They mixed up my order. They served my order on another patron's table. After a while they realised their mistake and simply moved the food to my table without apology (Is this a joke???)
2. The 'asian' girl at the cashier on Sunday 11am shift is so unprofessional, kept talking to the colleages and complaining about personal matter (so loud that I overheard some stuffs like: im korean and ppl keep asking my age)
3. They can serve Burnt meat to the customer without feeling bad - makes you question if they even prepare your other food properly
4.Their promotion "Free tea/coffee with $16 purchase" is not valid if you are using Zomato gold. They are so dodgy that they wrote it with small fonts in their store. Something for other Patrons to look out for.
5. Zomato Gold patrons beware!!!! Your second most expensive food is free, not the lowest priced one. This cafe will try to make your lowest priced item free. Greatest Scam ever.

Overall. Very disappointing experience: Burnt food and very bad service. Zomato Gold should consider terminating the gold status for this cafe.

They need to clean their cup properly, my coffee was served with a greasy cup.

Service : 4.5/5
Food : 4/5
Value : 3.5/5
Atmosphere : 4.5/5
Wall paintings : 10/5

What I really loved about this place was the interior ! There are two sections to the cafe; one that has large tables that’s right in front of the cafe cabinet and other section which is more closed off. Sat at the back to enjoy a long chat with a friend and wasn’t interrupted by anyone or any loud noise.

Really cute chairs and tables, and wall paintings. Also, there were a wide range of things to read ; newspaper, magazine, local papers, and even Chinese magazines. Honestly, I could’ve spent the whole day here doing assignments and work on my laptop.

Variety of Malaysian and kiwi food on the menu. Food is food — it’s always delicious.

Friendly restaurant with a dinning area dedicated to groups that dine with small kids. The area filled with two big sacks of lovely toys that my kids would not want to leave and keep on wanting to return!
Food that we ordered was great! We had the clay pot chicken on rice and laksa, both served bubbling hot. With Zomato Gold it would be a better deal!
HungryHam
Claypot chicken rice was nice but the burger we had hardly had any meat in there(portion is pretty small also). Should've used a normal meat patty instead of shreaded meat. Maybe this place serves better Malaysian food than brunch type of cafe food.
Florence N
Ordered clay pot chicken with rice and laksa. The portion are a bit small. The food is not too bad, just small portion. It did not fill my stomach. The chicken was chicken thigh which is nice. Some of the rice was stuck on the clay pot. Overall, OK.
Kitty So
I've ordered claypot chicken rice and mince on toast, taste was OK. The portion of the chicken rice was quite very small. If they put 2 small slice bread instead of one and less mince on the Mince on toast would be much better. I've ordered 2 keep fit chicken on the other day and they said it's the combo and didn't have complimentary dish when I used gold membership. The portion still small and not worth for money.

Found this little gem with Zomato Gold!! Such a great value for the 1+1 food. The clay pot rice is one of the best in Auckland and the satay skewers are very delicious. Bak Kuh Teh was also perfect on a cold day. The service is excellent and would definitely be back :)
Belinda
Cute cafe that we visited using our Zomato Gold membership. The coffee was good and the food average. We had scrambled eggs on toast and the French toast with bacon.
Sabrina Mayadayita
Have visited this place over a year ago and it was a lovely experience. Came back again this morning with Grabone voucher and they still keeping up the high standard. Super friendly staff, creamy and smooth coffee, and delicious authentic laksa. Will definitely come back to try different dishes!

A little cute cafe in Takapuna area. The decor is quite cute. It was quite quiet when we got in. The portion of the food is quite small, which is expected because of thejr good location - in the heart of Takapuna. However, the taste is nice. I love my seafood laksa curry, it tastes amazing, just perfect for a rainy day :)
Shantell
Little gem in Takapuna! We came because it was on Zomato gold and had no issues with it. It looks like a typical cafe but it serves delicious Malaysian cuisine as well as the usual cafe food. Laksa noodles were delicious with good flavour and a nice amount of heat. The claypot was really tasty. With the bao bun you get 2 bao buns - chicken and pork. The pork one was a favourite for everyone! Will definitely be back :)

Cool little cafe! Used Zomato gold and there was no problems there! Got a laksa and clay pot rice. Clay pot rice was really yum! Definitely recommend

Little cafe at Takapuna. Went there with a friend and ordered thai chicken salad and paleo breakfast. Chef forgot to put cucumbers in the salad and when I asked about it the staff member politely added the cucumbers and offer me a free coffee, which was great!!! Hurray... definitely coming back to this place ..

P.S. their chicken salad was amazing and I used zomato gold voucher.

Great little cafe in Takapuna. The food and coffee are reasonably priced.
Overall score:
Ambience 4/5
Service 4/5
Food 4/5
Value for money 5/5.

You can get free great food with zomato gold here. I paid only 21 dollars for 2 dishes and one long black. Good staff service and great food
Kristina Isabel
The food is always good and the service is impeccable! We got the big breakfast and it was delicious- had all the elements necessary for a filling meal

Had the Paleo Breakfast at the Little Red Cup! Everything about it was amazing! The bacon was crispy, the salmon was perfect, the mushrooms were creamy and delicious. The avocado and tomato were excellent. I was stuffed afterwards and it only had meat and vegetables. The salad, especially, was delicious, with a sweet mustard sauce. 11/10 would go to the Little Red Cup and have the Paleo Breakfast again.

This place was just incredible. I went back for lunch three times total. The food was not just perfectly cooked, it was also carefully designed. The kitchen staff is not only innovative but also bold in their choices.

Decent little cafe just off the main shopping street in takapuna. We stopped in to grab a coffee but ended up having cakes from the cabinet and tried the clay pot chicken rice. The coffee were good, carrot cake and lemon tart were average but the clay pot chicken rice was very good. There was a good size children's area for families which is a nice touch and the service was friendly. Price point was very competitive for the area.

We found this cafe when we were looking a place to have a light brunch. It's a small spot on the main road of Takapuna, I can't believe I've never seen it before!

We ordered a latte and hot chocolate which came out really good, and we had some of the counter food. The delicious bacon egg pie and chicken burger were about $5 each, such a bargain!

We had a lovely time in the cafe, no obnoxious music,no crowds, and no queues. All in all, I recommend this cafe.

We decided to visit this place using a groupon voucher the food was good, the only let down was our eggs were over poached, nice neighbourly feel and quiet place to enjoy a meal.
Destiny Mackay
I’ve been here twice and both times have been good experiences over all. The girl who works on the till is very good at knowing exactly what’s going on. It’s nice to be taken care of completely. Good work

Came here this morning and had a very pleasant experience. The staffs were friendly, and the ambience was nice and quiet. The cafe wasn't too busy, and we ordered curry laksa noodle and clayport chicken on rice. They were both delicious! Curry laksa wasn't too creamy and had a bit of spice at the end. I really enjoyed the clayport chicken rice which had chicken, chinese sausage, and broccoli on rice. I could taste bit of ginger which complimented nicely with the sweet sauce used on the dish.

Will definitely come back and try other menus as well.
El
They have good coffee and amazing food!! Staff are friendly and cafe has a cozy vibe. We had the french toast and the claypot chicken rice. Highly recommend both 👍
Maia Metcalfe
Affordable and delicious coffee! I come here every Saturday and Sunday, the food is amazing and the staff are friendly :)) always leave a happy customer

Food is Okay. Service is Okay. A place make me feel good. The most important thing is the Cafe has play area with enough toys for kids. I become a fan of here recently. 👍
Eric Anderson
I'm going to start with the positives:This is a quaint cafe with a cozy atmosphere and the decor is pleasant and thematic. The staff were cordial and accommodating. In fact, the servers were very cheery and pleasant and that may be the best thing going for this place.I eat at a lot of cafes and this looked like a nice venue, but unfortunately, the food was a complete let-down."Big Breakfast" The bacon was so dry it resembled bacon jerky. The sausage was like leather, the hash brown was so overcooked and rock hard it looked like an ice hockey puck.
The poached eggs were nicely done, but the fried tomatoes were completely blackened on the bottom.

(Food: 1/5; Service 4/5)
Elaine Ng
they got 2 menu that with and without pictures! it helps a lot~ like their cafe design and foods are awesome as well(^ω^) gooooooood~~ (=^・ェ・^=)

Nice coffee!! I order homemade fruit muesli.very nice!! they sell alot cabinet foods, and scone is yummy.i order berry smoothies for my daughter.

This charming place has some really good food - both cabinet and menu - and AMAZING coffee. Whether you're in for a quick bite or a full meal, they got you covered. Loved their Eggs Benedict with salmon, I wonder how it is on a rosti instead of an English muffin, but I guess I should be back to find out! Ham and cheese toastie is also top-notch. The place is quiet and suitable both for doing your own things or enjoying with a group. They have a communal table wich seats I would say 8 or 10 people. They offer sweet and savory options for breakfast/brunch, and some Asian meals that seem to be quite filling for lunch. But the definite star is the coffee, don't know if it is the blend or the barista or both, however coffee is not to be missed here. Friendly staff, quick service.

The "Keep Fit" breakfast/lunch with cold smoked salmon comes with toast, mash avocado & poached eggs was a big meal. "BrAvo" is cold smoked salmon, grilled chicken & bacon on ciabatta bread. Big breakfast includes fried eggs, mushrooms, bacon, sausages & bread. Everything was good except the grilled chicken (in "BrAvo") which was too dry.
(food - 4/5; Service - 3.5/5)
Visited on 18 Mar 2018

coffee is amazing and have a great selection of dairy free milk including coconut milk which id never seen anywhere else before. the fresh muffins and scones are also amazing and have made dining in such a great experience but get in quick as theyre often sold out! love this place even though its not the closest the quality is definitely worth the little extra distance 😀

My family and I come here every day, sometimes twice a day for coffee. We love it here! Great, friendly and welcoming staff! We’ve tried food off the menu too and that was fab, also banana loaf in the cabinet is a fave. Go you guys! You make the best coffee on Hurstmere Road!
Stephen Town-Treweek
Pretty average food. So me and my girlfriend got the chicken and bacon wrap and the satay chicken skewers. So first of all the wrap was suppose to. Be a chicken and bacon wrap i would have called it a salad wrap with 3 pieces of overcooked chicken and undercooked bacon really not very nice fell apart a complete mess. My girlfriend had the chicken skewers they were $12. Now for that price you could get yourself the same order at a Thai or Malaysian restaurant so heres me thinking they were going to save the day. No not really the peanut satay sauce wasnt very nice and the chicken was bland and overcooked. You could get better from a restaurant for less the price. We didnt order any drinks but had a bottle of water served to us that was basically warm had been sitting in the sun. Probably wont be returning.

Stopped in for breakfast at this cute cafe yesterday! Love all the sayings they have hung on the walls, gives it great character. Their Paleo breakfast was exactly what I was looking for and the free coffee with their meal special was excellent.
Jennifer Banks
Great spot along Hurstmere road, easy to get a park and good spot outside under the umbrella. Excellent coffee and a great selection of fresh cabinet food. Also plenty of options on the menu which includes a kids menu. Will definitely be back!
Lucyeatsakld
Had a grabone voucher and came on Saturday prime brunch time but it was pretty quiet and we got seated at a sunny spot outside. I got the Thai chicken salad with prawns which had great flavour but was unfortunately drenched in dressing which overwhelmed the dish. Service was minimal, friendly and efficient.

Went for brunch with the family, 7 of us. It was recommended that we book and arrive early to make sure we could have a table. There was no need, as there weren't many people in. The meals were very tasty and brought quickly. The staff were friendly, but I don't think we'll be back as it lacked atmosphere
Chris Russell
nice place, very like it, food taste good, coffee taste nice, people friendly, but tables are not very clean, may because it was very busy time.
Britley Bennett
Went in on Mother's Day just before closing and the kitchen were kind enough to make us some meals before the cafe closed. Very tasty and filling meals. The cafe also gave my mum a free dessert which we ended up sharing as we were so full from the meals that we had just had
Vanessa Briana-Anderson
The girls serving were very friendly and helpful. No kids menu which was annoying with two kids.
I got the "keep fit" says it came with fresh avo but my Avo was black and rotten. My bacon was cold. Was a bit cramped with our kids in high chairs, felt like we were getting in the way.
Richard J
We went for brunch, pancakes , eggs Benedict, big breakfast all tastes great decent portions too . Coffee was excellent , service good and friendly ...
Catherine Tan
had the chefs special satay pork rib and the mixed flavour buns. Was delicious! Very nice kind of Asian kiwi fusion dishes you served. keep it up little red cup!
Rebecca Kennedy
I've been here a few times now. The coffee is always superb and the treats at the front counter are great. I give this place a 4/5 because it doesn't really have much atmosphere. It is a nice shop with chairs and tables and not much character. The reason we keep going is because we can almost always get a Park and a seat outside.
Greg Brown
New restaurant/cafe in takapuna. The food is nice but unfortunately just so many better choices in taka to be had. Prices are essentially in line with surrounding stores. Nicely set out but just no theme/vibe or funk. Friendly staff and owner is extremely nice, just easily forgotten.
Lan Nguyen
New barista, new food, new menu!! Little Red Cup has changed into a new leaf here and I'm so stoked!

Had the most wonderful scones and freshly baked raspberry muffin, and their French Toast is to die for! My latte came out tasting as awesome as it looked. Fast service, kid's playing area, free lollies for the little ones, can't really ask for more :-)

Keep up the hard work guys! You'll see us so much more often lol!
Coco
The coffee is fabulous!! I am an absolute coffee lover, so I have so much demand for my coffee, but this shop's coffee was inspired me a lot 5/5. The staffs are very nice and friendly. Their fresh made donuts were so amazing. Must come back again and They also provide free Wifi as well.
Austin
Not the best looking cafe but the food and service is great. Freshly baked scones and probably the best coffee on Hurstmere Road. We had poached eggs on toast with bacon and tomatoes (fantastic) and the kiwi breakfast - avocado on toast, fresh tomatoes and poached eggs with bacon on the side. Strong long blacks with hot milk on the side. The owners are also putting their heart and soul into the place which takes the cafe to a different level. Give it a go!
Alysha Bower
Just went here this morning with my partner for brunch. It is a cute little cafe on hurstmere road. Inside is nice and open with simple furnishings. They also have about 5 tables with umbrellas outside as well.

Service was amazing! 5/5 for sure. The man that served us was very friendly and had some good suggestions when what my partner wanted had sold out. He also dealt with our complaint about the iced coffee very well and even came and told us what went wrong with it when he brought the new one out.

I ordered the creamy mushrooms and my partner had the keep fit with bacon. Both were very delicious! Make sure you come hungry as they are nice large portions!

I will definitely be back with as many people as possible to support this little, amazing cafe! Keep up the great work!
Mike
Great cafe that is worth driving for!

Friendly and smiling staff! And the coffee is from espresso workshop so combined with barista skills a place has to offer it's 5 out of 5!

Tasty and well presented food so we have almost licked our plates clean. My favourite mince on toast had a well sized portion and perfectly cooked poached egg with it.

Highly recommend to go there whether you after a good breakie different from everyday omelettes and eggs benne's or just after a cup of a great coffee and a piece of freshly baked goods like cake or scone.

Tom Batcheler
Call me non-PC but I normally view Asian managed cafes serving European fare about as sceptically as I avoid Asian drivers...but these guys have really done it well and kept it consistent. Used to be a regular at Latin Larder down the road, but since it changed hands and it went hardcore Swiss, the Red Cup has taken pole position. Well done :)
Iain
What a great place!
Cheaper than a lot of places in the area, but customer service, food and coffee standards are right up there. We eat here quite often and have never had any complaints.
CherryPie
love the food and coffee, the coffee is really good, it's very smooth. I ordered a corn fritter stack, it was so fluffy with a little bit Spanish touch. compare with other cafe, that's the best corn fritter stack I have ever try... very cozy environment, easy to park. friendly staff there... I will definitely go there again.
Toby
It is very yummy and nice. The new coming dessert is dedicated. Forgot to take the house paster picture. I love the pasta as well.👍👍👍recommend this cafe
Emma Grey
Delicious food! Love the breakfasts here and I am never disappointed. Sometimes had to get a carpark but it's worth the visit if you can! Came here after it was in the entertainment book but I've been back numerous times!
Kali
Service was very awkward to start of with then staff giving the wrong orders out. Mother and I ordered mince on toast I cannot believe how awful this dish was the mince tasted cheap and lumpy
and it had this foul vinager taste to it? The bread was tasteless very cheap tasting the other half did not enjoy it either we actually ended up leaving after a few bites. To make matters worse the price for what u get was over priced and down right awful I would never ever step foot in this place again I can't wait to get this awful taste out of my mouth. Wouldn't recommend this place.
Christine
Oh my goodness! Coffee 5/5, food 5/5, customer service 5/5. The coffee is really good. We went for breakfast and I had the pancakes (of course). Lemon soufflé pancakes sounded intriguing. The most amazing, cake like pancakes with lemon infused through them, covered in pancakes and orange segments and topped with grilled banana and a dollop of mascarpone. Yum! I would highly recommend this place. Interesting looking food in the cabinets too if you are just looking for something smaller to eat with that great coffee :)
Dominic Zolezzi
Great food and very good coffee! Staff are very welcoming..
