Review Centro - Takapuna

Friendly staff. Food was yummy. The food was hot and fresh. Really enjoyed my breakfast.

I have came at this restaurant not only to enjoy a meal, but also to officially submit my resignation after spending three fulfilling months working here. Regrettably, my visa restrictions limit my length to this duration in any given establishment. Nevertheless, I must emphasize that I have never encountered a more exceptional employer throughout my professional life. If you seek an establishment that delivers exemplary service, delectable cuisine, and wholeheartedly respects and cares for its employees, then you have indeed found the right place.

Had a great experience when I went in for lunch during the week. Ordered a Cajun burger and a coffee and received both pretty quickly. The kitchen is open and you can see all the action while you wait for your food. The staff seems efficient and ready to help out. Good coffee too!

Best Belgian waffle I have had in my life. Compliments to the chef—we don’t have a cafe in Southern California like this.

We loved the brunch here today. Tasty food & coffee. excellent customer service and calm atmosphere. A+ place to dine in.

Just popped in for a coffee, and goodness, they know how to make it well. Carmel latte, with just the right amount of everything. Love your service too. 😊 thanks. EDIT, okay after the coffee I had to try the food. I ordered the breakfast bagel. 😋 delicious. Thanks CENTRO. Wonderful

I knew I was going to leave a five star review as soon as I walked into his place. First thing I noticed was the welcoming and warm decor of the place. Very attractive, setting, and attention to detail. The second thing that became apparent was the warm, welcoming smiles and attention from the staff, who were very friendly. Was a bit chilly at 7:30 in the morning with the doors all open (could have done with the doors being closed for a few heaters on to start, but it soon warmed up whilst we were dining.). When I talk about attention to detail, it’s right down to the cast iron teapots that serves the Earl Grey that we asked for. Both the Earl Grey tea and a long black coffee were really good. We were even offered an extra teabag by the friendly staff if it wasn’t strong enough. The toilets tastefully decorated with nice dark glass mosaic tiles and very clean. The food arrived in good time. I had scrambled eggs on mixed grain toast with a side of bacon. My mother had a bagel avocado. It’s the first time she has tried a bagel anywhere. Bagels normally have a slightly tougher exterior which she struggled with initially. The attention of Staff noticed this, and immediately offered her a lighter muffin to exchange free of charge. I thought this was very kind and worthy of a mention. My plate was delicious. , I highly recommend this place and will definitely come back to try lunch or dinner.

The service was great and the quality of the food/drinks were great. Loved the French Toast. The bacon omelette wasn't to our liking though. Although I think this was due to personal taste. Overall a great cafe!

One of the best restaurants we’ve ever been to every single time we passed takapuna this is one of our stops they got a variety of food options and its a open kitchen so you’ll see while your food is been prepared highly recommended got to know that soon they are planing to add some now dishes cant wait to try them. Most importantly friendly staff and the best service. Thanks CENTRO TAKAPUNA

Matcha lattle was too sweet. It teast like a cap of syrup. Also, fired chicken was no any seasoning. It was bland, only sweat chill sauce on the surface. It serve with honey sause waffle. It just let me feel strange and greasy.

Loved this place! Prices are so good for the large portions you get. Coffee is good, food is good, atmosphere is nice. What else could u need for a branch spot?
Myaliasispedro
Food was very bad compared to the price we paid. It looked amazing but tasted revolting. I ordered French toast that had a green banana!. At least use a ripe one. French toast was just toasted bread. No taste to to it. I felt completely ripped off. Took one bite and had to leave the rest.
Alex Yu
Loved their new menu ❤️ i have tried almoat all of them in a months and still cant get enough !

Lunch was delicious! Centro had an extensive menu and friendly staff. I ordered the french toast which was a tad on the dry side but very nicely presented and generously-sized.

However, I think vegetarians would really appreciate it if bacon was a separate add-on cost to the french toast instead of a default inclusion.

Came here on a Saturday arvo wasnt to busy. Cute decor and the food is yum probably the best mushroom omelette ive ever had

The korean fried chicken is a must! And the staffs were very friendly! Definitely coming back again

I came in asked if the table was free - she said no and walked off; we waited a little and finally got a table; ordered acai bowl and fried chicken, both tasted ok. the smoothie tasted really good and fresh! However, the same server who walked off when i first got there brought the spoon for the acai bowl and threw it across the table (which she didnt clean from previous customer) - i get that it was rush hour but threw the spoon across the table to a surface you didnt clean? it wasn’t ok ! wont be coming back

Perfect cafe to drop by in the summer! Would give the ambience 5/5.
Didn’t try the food on the menu but the cabinet food was very pleasant. Nice place to come for a coffee date :)

A wonderful experience today in a perfect environment ! Food was great and staff so friendly . Great location with plenty of car parks and food is top notch ! Will be back again

Came to try their newly released summer menu! We tried the Korean Fried Chicken, Salmon Omelette, Poké Bowl, Creamy Mushroom Bruschetta and Plate Sized Hash! For drinks I tried the Charcoal Detox, Pear and Peach, Sunrise, and Berry! Favourites were the Korean Fried Chicken, Salmon Omelette and Charcoal Burger!

• Korean Fried Chicken (10/10) made my eyes lit up at the first bite! The batter is fried crispy but doesn’t feel heavy at all! If you squeeze the chicken, juices come out so it is super juicy and tender! There is a slight nutty flavour which really fascinated my taste buds; the Gojuchang sauce is absolutely amazing! The chefs specially seasoned the sauce so it tastes different to any other gojuchang sauce. My only downfall is that the underneath pieces of chicken didn’t have any sauce drizzled over it. Presentation looks amazing and I would gladly have this again!

• Salmon Omelette (10/10) super creamy and thick egg omelette rolled over a flavoursome smoked salmon slice, with caramelised onions seeping through the top. I was surprised at how delicious this was, it did not need any extra seasoning and texture-wise it was fluffy and moist, probably the best omelette I’ve ever had! The toast was also toasted well, and the side sauce was tangy and salty and packed with flavour.

• Charcoal Burger (10/10) probably the best burger I’ve had at any eatery! It’s giant both in size and height, packed with layers of beef patty, hash brown, bacon, egg, lettuce and their special house-made BBQ sauce! Everything was moist and pulled together by the abundance of sauce! Have this while it’s hot! Chunky fries are also fried crispy golden and pairs really well with the dipping spicy aioli!

Perfect location at the corner in Takapuna Town Centre, it’s the ideal eatery to visit throughout the year, especially in summer! The foldable doors can transform into a semi-open eatery that makes you feel welcomed! I’m excited to visit again and try other dishes on the menu! Price-wise it’s definitely bang-for-your-buck and it will definitely be a go-to for me!

Food: 10/10
Price: 10/10
Ambience: 10/10
Service: 10/10

they did not understand how to make a blended iced mocha... very poor service and horrible communication. had to constantly remind the waitress’ to come and see us, no one came to take our order. there was mango in a salmon bagel?? no one looked happy to work there.

I’ve been wanting to come here for such a long time and it definitely lived up to my expectations.

Service: 9/10
The service was great. The people were kind and efficient.
When they had an error with my order they were quick to inform me.
I’ve been here several times and the service has always been impeccable.

Food: 10/10
I ordered the korean fried chicken waffle and the eggs benedict.
I had to swap out the waffles for hash browns because they didn’t have waffles at the time. The hash browns were sooooo crispy and seasoned to perfection. The fried chicken is one of the best I’ve had in Auckland. It was so crunchy and juicy on the inside. The sweet chilli sauce added a little kick to the flavour.
The eggs were nicely poached and the hash browns were equally delicious. The mushrooms added some creaminess and there was a slightly sweet flavour in the dish.

Ambiance: 10/10
This whole cafe’s aesthetic is so chic. There are wooden tables with a fake brick wall which reminded me of New York City. There is also a beautiful angel printed or painted onto the wall to look like graffiti.
The whole place is so chill from the music to the lighting to the decorations.

This has just become my favourite cafe in Takapuna. Won’t be long before I come back!

I was quite disappointed as I ordered the moroccan salad but as you can see from the photo, it was more like some cut up chicken with a sprinkling of kale on top and a couple vegetables on the side. It was a tiny portion for the price I paid ($22) which I thought was rather expensive for the meal I received. The chicken as well was very dry but the other flavours of the meal were divine. Beautiful use of different textures and flavours. The changes I would make would be by increasing the portion size by making it an actual salad or reducing the price by $10, not making the chicken so dry and increasing the amount of beetroot purée on the side. Unless these things changed I would not consider ordering this again.

Good place for buddies getting together. The food and coffee there is divine. I order the burger every time I go there. Love the neat place!

Originally found open hours a bit confusing. Looks like it has been corrected on Zomato.

Good food and service.

Centro offers good cafe food and is an ideal spot to grab breakfast or coffee on a warm day and go to the beach for a stroll. The open kitchen concept adds a nice feel to the cafe. The service is of good standard.

Love their coffee and food. Wonderful decoration and friendly service.

Had a weekday lunch at Centro and loved their Centro Burger with chips (very good!) and eggs benedict with bacon. Staff are friendly and interior is pretty. Will definitely come back and try their desserts too!
Food For Life
We ordered the korean fried chicken on waffle and duck pasta. Both meals were yummy and good portion.
Give Me Food
Have been here for drinks before but this time came here and tried the fried chicken waffles, and creamy mushroom. The mushrooms are nice and creamy but not overly spectacular. The chicken waffles are very good though and the portion is huge. The chicken is crispy and not oily at all. It goes really well with the gochujan dipping sauce.

We were a bit underwhelmed by the drinks though. We've tried a wide range of drinks both hot and cold (latte, iced chocolate, iced coffee, charcoal latte) and they were all a bit weak. The ice chocolate felt like it was made with cadbury chocolate powder and chocolate sauce, which was really disappointing.

Centro has a lot of outdoor seating which is perfect if you have a dog with you.

We've had a bit of hit and miss with service. Overall the staff are friendly but during busy times might leave you hanging for a bit.

Damn came here for a coffee the other morning and was very pleased. I obviously got an iced mocha which was delish such a good coffee yum! The cafe itself was super cute and modern and one of the waiters was cute haha. Would love to come back for food one day. x
Grace
Everything was so so good (esp the spiced chicken, grilled veggies, hash brown stick and baked beans😍😍)

We visited them twice at the times when it’s well during the opening hours as stated on Zomato and on their doors. But we got told they were closed on BOTH occasions. I just tried to ring them twice today to check if they were open but no one answered the phone so I wonder if this place has closed down?? If this cafe is still operating, they need to commit to the opening hours they promised to the customers!! So that we don’t travel there just to find out they’re closed!! Such a waste of our time.

Lovely little cafe on Takapuna. Ordered a fried chicken with waffle and a duck pappardelle. The duck pappardelle had too much olive oil and the flavoring was a little odd. The waffle was nice and buttery and the chicken was quite tender.

They have a little cabinet selection of desserts. The rocky road tasted great but was a little hard to bite.

Apparently they don’t offer the dessert menu during lunch.

Taste: 7/10
Presentation: 8.5/10
Service: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Value for money: 7/10

Price $20 per person

We had the Korean fried chicken and smoked salmon egg benedict. Both are good fusion dishes. Very tasty.
We prefer the Korean fried chicken better. We like the fried chicken sauce but would prefer to have it on the side. We felt if the chicken had too much sauce, it got a bit too sweet.
The atmosphere and service were very good. Water and menu were provided very promptly.

It's just ordinary same cafe with just good mood but nothing else. Food wasn't special, I found hair in egg scramble and roasted green tea was too hot. Thanks for burning my mouth. Not recommended

Hidden gem in Takapuna:) Nice atmosphere and delicious food. Staff were very attentive. We just wished the drinks could've been stronger. They were little bit blend.

Come for the Korean Fried Chicken Waffles! Hot crispy chicken paired with delicious sweet and spicy sauce, this dish is amazing!

Coffee was okay. Sadly they dont offer filter coffee so opted for a soy flat white which was acceptable.

Service was friendly and quick. Centro does get busy, so come early if visiting on the weekends!

Amazing food and bread, great atmosphere and service, good coffe + one of the best waffles in Auckland. Just not the biggest portions so don’t share

Wonderful food, staff are always friendly, and attend to you quickly. Tables are always clean and I love the coffee. I go there almost every day

Great coffee, friendly service and a nice atmosphere. Can choose from either menu food or cabinet food, both are unique and tasty So you won’t be disappointed.

So my bf and i have been to Centro about 3x now, and the food is consistently awesome. So far, my favourite is the Centro burger with the best chips on the side I've had in a while! The waffles with Korean fried chicken was also very unique and tasty, although it probably isn't traditional brunch fare. The full kiwi breakfast was great value for money and probably had the best portions. Mince on toast, i was told, went really well with the poached eggs. The only reason we gave Centro 4 stars instead of 5 is because the drinks were not up to standard. Watery tea, average coffee, and overall disappointing drinks. We got water last time and saved ourselves the regret. Still a place you should really try!
Olivia Clayton
Bit of a disappointment. Ordered the salmon bagel, which came out cold. I was expecting the bagel to be toasted. It was a bit flavourless overall. My father ordered the mince on toast which was extremely spicy and he struggled to eat it. The coffee was great, they use Flight Coffee.
Alex Wong
Desserts were tasty, but not overly sweet. Visually well presented dishes. Service was good as it was not overly busy at the time. Would like to return to try other dishes

My boyfriend is not a social media person. However, he went today to have brunch and his comments are that the coffee was very bad and cold and Eggs Benedict vey low quality, he just said that the experience was horrible and never will come back. Very disappointed since you have 5 starts but also I could see many 1 start.
Marcus Kwan
Nice ambience and music. Staffs were friendly as well. Really loved the coffee. We ordered the Duck Pappardelle and Korean Fried Chicken Waffle. Pappardelle was good. The waffle can be improved though. Waffle can be better and I think the chicken would have been nicer if it was coated in the sauce instead of drizzled. Other than that, good place!
Deen Khan
Wow where do I begin with this review. The terrible service or the worst desserts I have ever had the displeasure to have. The Oreo cheesecake was frozen solid and the white chocolate mouse was rubbery and not like a mouse at all. The staff really didn't give a crap about anything. The only redeeming factor was the flight coffee.

Great place for brunch with friends! Awesome with Zomato Gold too.

Staff was friendly! Came here recently with friends and we ordered the Halloumi Bagel, Korean Fried Chicken Waffle, Eggs on Toast and their Flight Coffee.
Halloumi Bagel was delicious and had a twist with aubergine as one of the fillings.
My absolute favourite was the KFC Waffle!!! The chicken had a nice crunch and was accompanied with a tasty sweet sauce. It paired well with the waffle!
Their Flight Coffee was great! I had never tried beans from Flight Coffee before but it was awesome!!

EDIT: Came here a second time and had the Korean Fried Chicken Waffles again! My boyfriend had the same thing and he loved it. We were both quite full. Would definitely come back for this dish.
Stephanie Qin
Absolutely loved eating here!! Delicious food cooked perfectly, great coffee, good service and not to forget the beautiful interiors. Came here with a friend and we both loved the food and coffee so much we can back the next week. Highly highly recommend. Worth making the drive if you don’t live on the shore
Mon
All in all great food, loved the complimentary pumpkin soup they got us to taste test, the berry smerry smoothie was delicious and so was the french toast...However, probably just a note for next time-maybe 1 brioche bread is enough for the nut crusted french toast- was given 3 and it was quite overwhelming to finish. Will still come back to try more of what they offer... the service was quick and the waitress was really friendly and approachable plus the decor was really nice!

Food : 4/5
Service : 4.5/5
Atmosphere : 4.5/5

What I loved about this place was the interior and the spacious room. I love little cafes but when I want to have a catchup with a friend, which usually goes on for hours, I prefer to go to a place with lots of tables. Centro is the perfect place for that because it’s in the centre of Takapuna yet it doesn’t compromise with quality or value.

Food is food — I love food so anything can make me happy. But so glad that the staff didn’t come by our table every 10 mins to ask how everything was haha that’s sometimes very annoying cuz it cuts the flow of our conversation.

Thanks so much Centro !
Was there last week. The food was nice. My fault to order Lamb fry with bacon. I don't know that was labm liver but was a good experience.
Service: 3/5
Presentation :4/5
Food:4/5
It was great spot for brunch. I had smashed Avo and it was unique as it has pineapple on the top. Was new flavor for me. Good price kind staff. It was busy cafe on Sunday noon.

Decided to try this place as it was on zomato gold! Loved it. Staff was friendly, Portions were great, Salad was so tasty :) will be back for sure!

Great food, polite staff, top quality. We had Centro burger and Korean Fried Chicken Waffle. Portion sizes were generous too. Fast service even though the place was packed. Can’t go wrong.

Come here regularly for coffee. Very nice coffee. First time for brunch. Impressed with their food. We had creamy mushroom with bacon and smoke salmon omelette. Reasonable priced. They also open for dinner with lots of dessert choices. Will return to try their desserts.
Ilenia Chandra
Amazing deal for Zomato Gold members at an elegantly designed and presented café. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Food was above average, though nothing too mind blowing...will have to try their Flight coffee next time - a nice place for catch ups with friends, or even work on laptops.
Julia
Very quick and friendly service.
Food is very delicious and good presentation .
Happy price for dish . I am willing to have another meal next time.
Went for the first time using Zomato Gold at lunch, I ordered the bacon omelette, super large meal and really yummy. Coffee was great too! Service and food was super speedy.

wanted to give this place an honest go as it is a new dessert place it's good to give new places a try. Considering it is new I expected more from them because they should be trying to get people in by selling great things. There was only acouple people in there when I went so we thought the wait would be short and sweet. Sadly this was the opposite we waited a good 10-15 mins (the way they were plated and by the looks of the things they look like they could be done in 5-8 mins, judging from experience) for the desserts only to be disappointed. The chocolate pudding was mush, on the cold side of things and tasted cheap. Although it was only around $10 I assumed the price was cheap as a way to get people coming in but the price was cheap because the dessert was cheaply made. It tastes like advent calendar chocolate. The ice cream was fantastic but I assume it's not House made please correct me if I'm wrong. The waffle tasted like bread, had no flavour not even sweet. Could've been plated nicer the sauce on the plate looked like vommit, that's not what you want to think of when looking at food. I also think that the pistachios are unnecessary they don't do much flavour or colour for the desserts. It was very quiet and there was a big pile of dirty dishes. The server continued to sit on her phone drinking her drink when while no one needed serving she could've made her self useful. Sure go on your phone but it looks very sloppy from a customer stand point. Overall I would stick to the savouries as I don't think desserts are their strong point. I'm giving this feed back not to be a key board warrior but in hope that you will do something with this feed back!

Style over substance. Was desperately craving waffles but unfortunately Centro did not deliver. The waffles were not like real waffles but dense and almost bread or pastry-like - and not in a pleasant way. The ice cream was okay however the chocolate sauce was also bland like the waffles. Gorgeous decor and presentation and friendly staff, however, overall underwhelming.

Didn’t have the best breakfast here when we came a few months ago, but tried it again due to their Zomato Gold offer and was thoroughly impressed. They’ve changed their menu and it’s both delicious and reasonably priced. They’ve got great presentation, really quick service, and a lovely ambiance in the place. Their French toast wasn’t too sweet and packed with fruit, while the salmon omelette was spot on. It was busy when we went and glad we gave this place another go, because we will definitely be back.
Anna Holmes
Firstly, I had tried to book via their Facebook page, which it let me do, but I never had a reply. I can see that the message hasn’t been read. We struggled to get the attention of anyone to order coffee and had probably been there about 45 mins before I finally flagged someone down to put in our order. I was very excited to order smashed avo, because they’re now back in season, only to find out that it was frozen!!! The others had MYOB meals, which looks much better than my insipid smashed avo.
NZ_KY
I bought couple of iced coffee today but I was disappointed with the portion. The plastic cups were small and the drink wasn't filled up to the top. To be honest the cups looked cute... ok but I was not happy that it was not full.I know that u cant fill it too full because we can spill it but this is just not enough.
Siyang Wang
decoration is everything but your food must be eatable first. This is my $8 smoothie! I can also change my rating to 3 stars if you did not use frozen avocado to make my smash avo!
Vincent
Staff was not really friendly - water was pouring badly and not with a smile . Coffee menu hasnt been completed yet - Chai Latte / Cold brew was not available. Egg bene was good / Pork buns individually tasted good but not as a whole .
Food2belly
Best eggs benny I have ever had. There is many bursts of flavours and textures. The hash brown is made from sweet potato which adds a natural sweetness to the dish. While the eggs and mushroom were cooked so beautifully, super creamy. Go try it at $20 a very decent price. The bagel was super yummy! Lots of toppings and fulls you up. The mango salsa balances out the creamy rich cream cheese. This dish makes me super excited for summer to come and more mangos!
Michael Pether
Lunched at Centro today - in fact we have been occasionally having lunch there since it opened and it has almost always had main dishes that are interesting and good . Today the two dishes we had from their new menu were excellent and would rank as some of the best lunch dishes obtainable in Takapuna at present. She had the Bocconcini salad which was well presented very tasty and refreshing; I had the Chirashi salad which had a seared 'fish of the day' on top ( it was salmon today) and I would rank it as very, very good. We both had the freshly squeezed juice mixtures which were also great. I think that this new menu at Centro has struck the right note for the rest of Summer!

We tried this place again after going here a while back, I was hesitant but I couldn’t remember why. As soon as my iced chocolate landed on the table, I remembered the reason I was bitter. It’s hard to review the iced chocolate as it was literally gone after 3 sips. It is served in a small glass with massive ice cubes so the drink takes up maybe 1/4, not quite worth the $5.50 so I was rather sad :( the eggs Benedict however was a great surprise. It consisted of 2 slices of a light and fluffy brioche, topped with wilted spinach, bacon, 2 small eggs (I assume because they were free range ✅), hollandaise, and a kumara rosti. The bacon was cooked quite well and the eggs were a little over done but that’s fine because they were so busy. I did wish there was more hollandaise but in the end all the flavors tied together well so no points taken off for that. The best bit of the meal was the kumara rosti. It was beautifully cooked with a sweet, caramelised flavour and it just melted in the mouth. It was a wee bit burnt on the outside - not sure if that was on purpose or not - but I didn’t mind as it kinda of worked with the flavoring. I walked away feeling the right amount of full, not too bloated, on the search of another iced chocolate to quench my thirst.

Not a bad cafe in takapuna - I only had avocado on paleo toast, with Charcoal detox smoothie as I wasn’t hungry . The smoothie was delicious and looking around at others dishes, there looked to be a good variety on the menu.

My dislikes were the waitress had to double check some basic items on the menu with the chef - like what type of GF bread do they have. Gave me incorrect wifi password, And they cleared plates literally as soon as we finished - my biggest pet hate is when they clear one persons before the other has finished - Makes you feel rushed!

We came for brunch on a Sunday. Place was nearly full with hardly any diners having food on their tables. Should have been a sign. Our coffee orders were taken but obviously forgotten when two other couples seated AFTER us were served before us. The food was also delayed. Poached eggs were very vinegar laden. Rest of order was below average. Expensive and unimpressive.

Really enjoyed the fried chicken waffles. I was a bit hesitant at first coz i thought it will be sweet, but it's totally a savoury dish so still perfect for brunch. So glad i ordered it. My bf ordered the full kiwi, he said it's different from the other big breakfast meals from other cafes but it was nice. For drinks we ordered iced mocha and hot mocha, both were delicious. Will be back 😊
Shannon
Had the vegan Buddha bowl and my mum had the salmon eggs Benedict. Both were really good, quality ingredients used. My only criticism with my dish was that the cabbage in the bowl could have done with some dressing and the avocado was slightly underripe. The menu has lots of vegetarian options and healthy options, the usual brunch type food such as omelette and mushrooms on toast as well as more Asian style dishes. Lots to choose from, would be keen to come back and try something else.
Chelscy Thowfeek
It was on a weekday (Friday morning) nearly got charged by a kids meal, I mentioned isn’t the kids meal free? The waitress apologise she explained that they forgotten to take the charge off from the weekend. Which is explainable. Had a berry nut smoothie and my daughter had a kids meal pancake. Food was great, I’ve done hospitality and would make my customers to be happy and will come back again if the staff have helped me. Not impressed with one of the staff an Asian dude with glasses did not help me clean the spilt smoothie at least the waitress got a blue cloth she went back to the counter waited for me to wipe off the ground then she stood there 3 min and offered help. Not impressed. Please do something with the staff.

My boyfriend and I visited Centro for the first time yesterday for Brunch. The first thing you notice is that beautiful yellow, crystal like counter. It’s an eye-catcher for sure. The entire cafe’s interior is super trendy and comfortable. I ordered an iced soy latte, which is what I usually order from cafe to cafe, but I’ve never come across one as perfect as the one I had at Centro. For some reason, there was a certain richness to the drink, either coming from the beans or from the soy; it was magic. I’ll definitely be back in summer to order. Onward to food: the big kiwi & the creamy mushrooms. My boyfriend ordered the big kiwi, absolutely raving about the beans. He enjoyed every element, including that the portion size was perfect - nothing too small but nothing too crazy - perfect for a lazy brunch. I ordered my go to - creamy mushrooms. What can I say, it was flawless. We will MOST DEFINITELY be back, especially to try the pastries in the cabinet!

Came here for lunch and loved it-nice vibe, friendly service and flavoursome food. We had a beef burger and Moroccan chicken salad -yum yum yum! Chips that the burger came with were exceptional!

Sun shinning brightly, crisp yet comforting at the same time. Time for Sunday breakfast trip.

Cafe had their doors to the street all open which made the space feel very inviting as the sun streamed in. We easily found a table and were greeted by our waitress.

Cafe has an eclectic mix as far as the decor is concerned, absolutely love the railway sleeper wood counter. The polished floor is awesome with these large stone slabs of various colours.

I already knew what I wanted and I stuck with my choice of Fried Chicken Waffles. Oh my word it was amazing!!! The combination of spicy crispy chicken with warm, fluffy waffle... a fantastic meal. Around the table there was also smashing avo on toast, tasty bagels and butterscotch waffles... all were excellent.

All in a great meal... sadly my one and only gripe would be the waitress... she needed to be a little more attentive and friendly. But otherwise we will be back for another meal.

Food: 92%
Ambience: 82%
Service: 64%
Coffee: 65%

Wanting to visit this place because of its good reviews, in Zomato. Placed an order for Nuts about blueberry smoothie and the order came in relatively quick. It was very nice presentation wise and Taste wise as well, happy with that😊
Ambience of the place is quite subtle and cool. Staff were friendly and helpful👌
The place is positioned in a good location giving amazing street views throughout👍

Overall like this place , a big yay from our end💙

Went to Takapuna for lunch, found this cool little spot, ordered the GF. waffles and this duck dish that I still don’t know how to pronounce, but they tasted good! Cafe style food with a small hint of Korean fusion in their menu! The atmosphere of the cafe felt like ‘Takapuna’ and their waiters was super friendly and awesome!

Food- 8.5/10
Service-9/10
Aesthetics-9/10
Went here with my partner and two friends over the weekend. The cafe is really nice, homely and open plan.

The service was really good, our waiter was really helpful and attentive always asking if we needed anything else and checking that everything was good.

Our meals tasted great! There was a problem with our mains, two of them were cold when they arrived but when they re did them they were hot and tasty.

I would definitely come back for brunch another time and bring more friends!

I had smashed avocado on toast this morning. The portion is too small and it is not value for money. Looks like a kids meal to me. Other cafe serves way bigger portion compare to Centro.

The duck parpadelle dish is highly recommend. The cafe was well priced for the quality and quantity of the meals. Coffee was good too and staff were friendly.

Deco looks cool, service is great, except mixed up our table bill after we changed table. Food looks great and taste good! If you want a everyday dish or you are really hungry, you probably will find the food portion is not generous. They have kids menu and colorings, which is cool, kids loves that.

Great food, delicious smoothies and excellent service. Centro is one of the best places that we always come back and never been disappointed.
To be fair they may be struggling with new café syndrome but the basics are poor, very poor. Ordered off the "make your own" breakfast. Ordered poached eggs, mushrooms and hand cut chips. Chips arrived, obviously pre cooked, half warm, and 5 minutes ahead of the rest! Who does this? Indicates out of control issues at best. Meals for 4 of us arrived, no cutlery. My eggs arrived, nicely cooked, but the mushrooms were luke warm at best. Obviously the eggs were the only item cooked specifically for me. So chips 5 minutes ahead of the rest, pre cooked luke warm mushrooms and nice eggs. Utensils a last resort.... Pretty average and wont be back. Plus the noise in the place is horrific, the seating cramped so you have to appologise to everyone if you wont to get up. Tables too close together. No one came and asked how our food was, which was just as well to be fair. The waitress who cleared the table had zero interest in us as a group and our opinions.

Been wanting to try this place for a while cause it always seems so busy, but it was closed for a month due to the weather causing havoc.
Definitely glad it’s open again. Went in on a Saturday for brunch. The Fried chicken waffles are a great Fusion blend with Korean fried chicken 😍
The Smerry Berry Smoothie is definitely my next go to drink at Centro now. A little disappointed with the Matcha Latte, as it tasted just like milk and green tea powder.
Otherwise the place is great!

Delicious food, great service, relaxed but modern ambience - Centro is one of my favourite cafes.
The eggs benedict was the best I have tried to date, and I especially enjoyed the hollandaise and the unique kumara hash.
The berry smoothie tasted as good as it looks.
The waffles had a crispy yet fluffy texture which I loved, creating more space in my tummy for dessert despite their generous portions :).
Highly recommended :)!

A brunch so nice, I went there twice within two weeks of them opening! Great value brunch menu and stunning presentation of food. A rare find in Takapuna. For my full review check out stormechaser.com!

“Different is not always better”

If you love soggy bread, this is where you wanna be!

Started with the salmon benefict. Brioche bun, sure. But why make it so it’s so soggy!? It was wet and yuck. I have a video clip of it I sent to my friends and none of them want to try it.

I then add on ordered the mince because I didn’t like the Benedict. Omg delicious mince, but heavy on the starchy potato’s making it taste cheap. But still acceptable... up until I found soggy bread at the bottom again! This time it was even brioche! The only time bread should be soft and moist is when it’s a cake. Not to mention and emphasise again, mine were both soggy twice in two meals!

My wife ordered the waffles. Very nice, good crunchy nutty texture... but oh my god why liquorice pear? It was heavy black jelly bean tasting liquorice too. Not the nice acceptable subtle...

Literally no one likes liquorice. It’s the most dangerous ingredient if you don’t know how to cook it properly.

Anyways. Highlight of this review is.

“Different is not always better.”

Service: 5/5
Food Quality: 0/5
Drinks Quality: 4/5
Food Quantity: 4/5
Presentation: 4/5
Environment: 4/5
Price per person: $40

Beautiful inside with a gorgeous pastry cabinet. The breakfast food was great, would love to go back to try their lunch menu. The staff were very helpful, accommodating my group for my birthday! We had a great time.

New cafe that popped up in the heart of Takapuna. Centro is super spacious and provides plenty of inside and outside seating. We had the eggs Benedict and acai bowl. Both were nice and decently priced, although there's nothing particularly outstanding about them either. Something that makes Centro different would be its huge range of drinks where you can find the likes of matcha latte, turmeric latte etc and the rainbow latte which I ordered! It's not exactly rainbow coloured as I had pictured but still quit photo worthy. The latte itself was however free of caffeine and was more like a hot white chocolate with coloring. They do have an in store bakery and we grabbed some hot cross buns which were $3 each, but quite nice! Overall we probably won't come back in a while as there have been a lot of new cafe openings on the shore.

I never knew fried chicken and waffles go well together!! :D definitely a pleasant surprise. I was happy with the smoothie as well. Very original. Peanut butter and blueberry combo. I'm pleasantly surprised. A tad pricey but i can see why. Very top notch and original food combinations

Great cafe that's recently opened on the corner of Lake Road & Byron Ave, Takapuna. Went there to meet a friend for bunch, amazing decor with an amazing menu to match. Was quite busy but we managed to get a table straight away opting to sit outside. About 30 minutes after sitting, Auckland's awesome summer day turned into a torrential downpour, but we were well covered and no need for us to go searching for a table inside. I ordered the eggs bene and a large almond flat white, my coffee came out and was a small so was gone in 3 gulps so I ended up ordering another one. My friend ordered Vietnamese Spring rolls. Eggs benedict was a decent size and very tasty. My friend told me the spring rolls were right on par . I'm definitely someone who stops talking mid conversation to check out dishes as they come out and every dish I saw looked amazing. Our waiter was very good and attentive, with a lot of knowledge. Went to pay inside and they have countertops piled with amazing cakes, I'd be so distracted if I worked the counter there. My one and only gripe is the salt and pepper are in small dishes that you have to dip your fingers into, no teaspoons on the table to dig out the condiments and using my teaspoon that came with my coffee that I had licked clean was not an option. I'd prefer the much more hygienic salt and pepper shakers on the tables. All and all a great experience and I will definitely be back

I've had four fantastic experiences with Centro.

1) Coffee on opening day. Flight coffee. Great flavour, no bitterness. Went with a friend who had a latte and also thought highly of the coffee. Not relevant to the quality of the food but also love the decor and stoneware plates.

2) First opening weekend for breakfast. Had the wild shrooms and a bloody good coffee. Mushrooms were cooked well, flavoursome and creamy . The bread was a balance of soft on the inside and crusty outside without fearing it will fly off the plate as you cut through it.
Also I personally think they've picked some of the best wait staff from Takapuna and afar.

3) A few weeks ago went for breakfast for Eggs Bene (Because Bene is our 'bread & butter' IG: @eggsbeneblog ). Co-BenAddict had the bene and I had the avo on toast (comes w/ poached egg) with hollandaise and bacon.
Again. Great coffee (consistency is key), lovely and helpful staff. Food was delightful as was the conversation between the two women at the table beside us (although that hasn't influenced the overall rating...Maybe a few points added to atmosphere). Generous amount of avo on the toast. Flavours and textures were on point. Was accidentally charged for two eggs bene and a smashed avo on toast however the way the staff handled me raising this after the fact was with kindness and had no issue with correcting the error, also gave me two smoothie vouchers which was not necessary but pleasant to receive. Really impressed but mentioned I would've come back anyway without the vouchers.

4) Smoothies (Redeeming vouchers) and a coffee for lunch this last weekend with another friend.
Had the charcoal detox and Berry smoothie. Filling and refreshing smoothies. We both commented on how well balanced the flavours in the charcoal detox were. You could taste each ingredient in it without anything being overpowering.

Fair to say I'll keep heading back time and time again. Happy to have a good staple in Takapuna.

Hard one to rate because what was good was fabulous, the beef ribs were incredible... but the pork buns were really average and not good value for money with only a tiny bit of pork in each and very bland. This dish is really letting you down and its not cheap at $24 so needs to be good... saw other dishes coming out and they looked awesome like the beef ribs. Pastries are fabulous.

Love the modern and creative interior at this cafe! The service here is efficient and staffs are friendly. Defs deserve the credit

A variety of food on the menu and unique homemade drinks that are both worth trying!Literally one of the best coffee on shore (10/10! - Served hot and freshly made) and the food is mouth watering.

Worth the visit!

So stoked to find a place where I can enjoy both the decor of Amano, and the signature dish of L'oeuf! Points deducted because they also stole my pin number, kidney, and sense of style.

The location of this new cafe is perfect and the decor is lovely. The service is also great when we came on a Sunday morning.

The coffee is pretty good and I’ve tried their cappuccino and iced coffee (although the iced coffee is expensive compared to others I’ve tried in Takapuna)

As for the food, I got the chicken and waffles. The chicken was nice. It was cooked well and had crispy skin. As for the waffles, I was a bit underwhelmed. The batter is not really waffles and it’s heavier and more doughy. The waffle tasted more like bread as it’s dense and not light and crispy.

Overall it was ok. I’m keen to go back to try more though

Takapuna ma new hot spot, the layout is really creative and very on trend! Food is epic and the arrangement of sconces, pastries, muffins are really good!

High recommend trying this place out!

We tried this new cafe and bakery on Waitangi Day. The initial thing that struck us is how many tables they have tried to squeeze into a relatively small space. Nice decor.

We ordered apple juice, two flat whites, Vietnamese Summer Rolls, Crispy Pork Buns and strong fries.

The large flat white was hot but a bit on the watery side. The regular flat white was better.

Orange juice was refreshing but we suspect it came from a bottle.

The string fries arrived well before the rest of the food - the fries were crisp but lukewarm.

Pork buns were lukewarm reasonably tasty but expensive for what they are.

The spring rolls were fresh but fairly bland despite the fresh chilli so order so soya sauce on the side and extra chillies.

Service was pleasant and reasonably efficient but we had to ask for cutlery and serviettes. They also leave the cutlery in a box on each table, which is not very hygienic.

An above average cafe but nothing to rave about.

We purchased a baguette to go - it had a soft crust so I Bread & Butter in Milford doesn’t have anything to worry about.
