Review Fiori Cafe - Takapuna

Great cozy cafe. We called prior to our visit and spoke to Kim and she was very helpful in her foreign accent. We had a voucher for 4 but were only 3 and asked Kim in the cafe if we could get coffee instead of a 4th meal? The Manageress was helpful and said yes. Great coffee staff from various foreign countries was on top of their game giving great flavor to the cafe!! Great food, and hot drinks at good temperature!! Will surely be back, well done, awesome service Kim and French waiter too.

My husband and I LOVE this Cafe. It's unassuming and every time the food is AMAZING the flavours are always perfect. They have a big menu with lots of choice - one of my favorites is the haloumi and white wine mushrooms on Ciabata, and they are licensed, so a glass of bubbles with breakfast or lunch is totally possible and encouraged.

We had a lunch there today the food was perfect! I had the mushrooms in white wine sauce, and hubby had the Fiori all day breakfast. And the staff were lovely. Highly recommended.

Had their fiori mushrooms and it was good. Mix of mushrooms, poached egg, chorizo, toast with some nice parmesan cheese. You also get a discount if you have the Entertainment Book.

Service was quick and the food was great. They also had a high chair that was secure - lunch is so much more enjoyable without an escaping baby. :)
Rex Morgan
Nice food at reasonable prices. Very attentive staff. Enjoyed the complimentary water which had lemon, mint and cinnamon in it.

Love the chef special cumin feta potato cake with bacon, our food came pretty fast and we enjoyed talking with their friendly waitress, will recomment to our friends and come back.

A random choice, because the cafe I usually go to down the road didn’t have any available parking. I ordered the smashed avocados on rye, and it was an okay meal. It came with a kale & beetroot salad, and grilled tomatoes (which made the dish). I would’ve appreciated more avocado in the ricotta-avocado mouse, which only had specks of it, and perhaps more acidity in the dish... But I’m just nitpicking. It was an enjoyable dish, with crispy bread and perfectly-poached eggs. Espresso wasn’t bad either. However, a general grungy interior is a bit of a let-down. With bird-on-a-wire and Takapuna beach cafe nearby, I don’t think I’ll be coming back here again, but it wasn’t a bad experience. And before 10am they also do a 20% discount for food so it was slightly cheaper than the others, and worked out to be just under $20 for my coffee and breakfast dish. Service was good.

The food here is excellent, with a good menu with a few unusual options to spice up your brunch options. Their French toast is done vert well with a good balance of fine flavors. Their beans and bacon bun was a delicious savory breakfast. Their coffee is well made and they cleverly place a plate of small free taste of some of their bakery items so you can try and see of you like. Their service is generally good, but not consistent. They also offer freshly squeezed juices and smoothies which was well above average and not just run of the mill. One of the few places I could go to again and again.

Pretty average food and I've come here a few times with a Groupon voucher. Once I had the fries and burger... burger was delicious but the fries were slightly uncooked and tasted like they had been sprinkled with artificial chicken flavouring and made me feel sick... customer service varies depending on which waiter/waitress you get but is pretty average as well

From the service, to the decor, to the food, this place is a letdown. The staff here clearly lack experience in running a cafe; they weren't exactly rude, just very unprofessional and unaware when it came to service and keeping their customers happy.

My wife ordered carrot cake from the cabinet which was overly dry on the outside yet somehow raw, gooey, and uncooked everywhere else. This isn't the end of the world, as a typical cafe would apologize and probably offer you a complimentary slice/cake of similar value for the inconvenience. Instead they seemed more concerned that they had to throw out the remaining unsold cake. No apology was offered, and they didn't even ask if she wanted to order and pay for something else, let alone a complimentary replacement. They did offer her a piece of the same cake since they 'had to throw it out anyway'; unsurprisingly (seeing as it was from the same cake!) that one was also comprised of majority raw dough mix.

I ordered the Chicken Caesar salad which was okay, except for the chicken which was inexplicably dry; sort of like what I imagine chicken would taste like if i cooked it 8 times over then left it to sit in an oven for a week.

If you are after a nice experience, both service and food wise, I'd recommend you avoid this place.

Pretty good for a cafe but kind of overpriced. But great food. Recommend getting the Groupon deal. Friendly Staff. Kind of has a quiet vibe but I guess it was early. I don't know why this place has such a bad rating, it's so good!

My friend and I went here to get breakfast and I only have two words to say - oily and greasy

I had an eggs benny with salmon and I was quite disappointed. I'm not just talking about the soggy bread drowning in oil but the salmon was so fatty and not fresh. To conclude, my friend and I both agreed that the meals were too heavy and unfit for breakfast.

BUT! I did like was the caramel slice. I tried a little sample piece and they were delicious! I'll just get the caramel slice next time.

It was a small cafe located at the busy Takapuna street, very easily to be found but you will have to depend on your luck to get a parking.

I came here to have a brunch and catch up with my girlfriend. I had a lemon pepper calamari salad and I quite like it. Probably it was a weekday so there wasn't much people except those who passby and get a takeaway coffee. We were very full when we finished our food as they gave generous portion.

On both occasions of my visit i was impressed. The food was excellent and the service was great.

On my latest visit - which was a Thursday afternoon, the cafe was calm and peaceful and smelled of delicious coffee. We ordered the sirloin steak, salmon and calmari. The steak was evenly cooked to juicy perfection and the salmon tasted wonderful with the home made tartare sauce. All were beautifully presented.
I would highly recommend these dishes!
The portion sizes are also quite big - on my first visit we had to take the leftover food home.
Although it takes some time for the food to come out, I think its definitely worth the wait.
I find their prices to be very reasonable as the quality of their food is quite high.
With their burgers comes beautifully stacked fries - I think it would be nice if their fries were a bit crispier.

The service was excellent - the hostess was kind and attentive and I was very impressed.

Parking is on Hurstmere Road (which can be hard to find a spot - the road is quite busy), or alternatively Wilson parking or parking near the beach is also an option.

This place is definitely worth your time and money! I'm gonna be returning with friends in the future.

Came here on a Saturday morning and ordered Fiori big breakfast, order arrived shortly and staff were professional But food could be better than I had today

Overall: Dissapointing.
My partner and I visited Fiori Cafe, we were hopeful as the first impression is a quaint cosy cafe. They were somewhat busy with a table of 2 and two tables of 4, leaving only a couple of free tables.
No one aproached us, or even acknowledged our arrival. I understand they were busy, but all it takes is a "be with you in a moment".. we stood in the entrance for a good minute, till I got fed up being ignored and reached over the counter to supply myself with a pair of menu's. We seated ourselves near the back of the cafe, close to the entrance to the kitchen. We were approached by a waiter quickly who proceeded to take our drink orders. My partner changed his mind about his drink order, and got up to approach the staff at the counter to cancel the coffee for a kronenburg.. my orange juice arrived soon after which was delicious, freshly squeezed, (the juice has scored Fiori the extra 0.5) followed by a truffle?? Anyhoo, after much confusion we managed to explain to the two waiters that a truffle is not a glass of kronenburg and got the beer delivered.
We noticed that none of the tables were getting their meals deliverd at the same time, the poor lady sat across from us had almost finished her plate by the time her daughters had arrived. We ordered the blueberry pancakes $15 and wedges $14. Pancakes were barely warm and very basic, could have made the same thing at home, and the wedges were quite sad - not very crispy, and also not that hot. Overall food was tasty but didn't blow me away.
Turns out one of the tables of 4 were all staff, who proceded to stand up a loiter by our table being loud and irritating, followed by one of the girls creating a nice draft in the room by running around... sigh. Decor consisted of dead plants and flashing lights.
Note to the owner, get the service sorted out - that's what is letting your buisness down.
We won't be back.

Tucked away in the corner of hurstmere in Takapuna this cafe is definitely underestimated.

We got a voucher of groupon which included x2 breakfast and I brought my own which was $8 for a breakfast valued at $15 and you just pay the difference.

I ordered the baked beans, poached eggs with bacon and hollondaise sauce with a medium flat white.

I can't fault this dish, it was filling had so much flavor and all the components blended together beautifully!

They other two dishes were rated as:

Pancakes 3/5
Salmon omelette 3.5/5

Two things I really loved was the fresh lemon served in the water jar and also he equal sugar. The staff were friendly, attentive, bubbly and welcoming. I love the location and atmosphere I will definitely be back

We got a voucher from Groupon so expectations were not high to begin with but let me say, we were impressed. Service was friendly, food is good and generous. We ordered the big brekkie, burger and mince on toast. Cant finish the whole thing. We were sitting outside with our dogs on a sunny day so that was quite nice.

Basically if you went off the tourist track in France this is what you will get not some NZ (customer friendly)version of a 'French Cafe' so if you want to experience a realistic European vibe right down to the attitude and the locals smoking at the entrance (get over that and you will be rewarded) this is your cafe, on their day the food is exquisite , take a peek in the kitchen to get some tips. There is (French ?)beer on tap which is unique for a cafe but it went down well with the meal be loud and enjoy life 😀minus 1 for the smokers but I got over it

Food is fantastic (pancakes, french toast, mishrooms on toast, eggs benedict) service not so great.
We had breakfast here on the 22nd April and got the earlybird special that is on the menu $15 that included a drink. We went back here today// saw on zomato deal was still on the menu... and to start of it was difficult trying to place our orders as the waiter couldn't understand us. One of us asked for coffee after breakfast and got it before the breakfast. Come to the payment we asked about the special, staff member said it wasn't available so we were like ok... but then she tried to charge us for large drinks and we didn't order any??.. Thats when she got grumpy about us asking and line was growing longer so we quickly paid and left.

Little cafe located in the busy shops of Takapuna, if you aren't looking then you might just miss this place. This is one of the cafes that I would go back to once I've tried maybe almost every cafes in Takapuna. I was quite pleased with the food and service I received and can't complain anything about it. Would recommend this cafe if you've been wanting to try it out.

Me and my wife and the kids went in for lunch on Sunday.
We ordered the:-
Hash brown stack - which was super yum, great hollindaise and cooked perfectly.
The kids had a pancake stack, which was a huge portion and spot on.
Coffees were also perfect and the worlds biggest fluffys for the kids.
Service was great, even though they were super busy. The staff are french and its chilled.
Its a nice spot for a coffee, only held back by location as there are a lot of coffee shops on that road.
Def recommend for breakfast/lunch

Bad and rude service - took about 10 minutes just to get the cutlery after receiving the food. The tables weren't clean and didn't get any water. But the food and coffee was yum - service let it down big time.

I had the Kumara and Pumpkin Hash Cake with a side of bacon and it was the best breakfast ever. Really delicious. I will not return because of the waitresses :-( They seriously need to improve on their customer service. They are too abrupt and need to wait until you have finished ordering instead of interrupting you while you are trying to order. Perhaps write down the order and then repeat it back to check its all good. I hope the owner sees these posts because all the hard work out the back by the chef can be ruined by the poor service out the front.

Once again a restaurant that I wish I could've given a higher rating to. Me and my partner visited this restaurant this morning as we were given a coupon as a gift. I try not to use coupons to restaurants that I have never been to before as this may affect their usual service/quality. However, coupon or no coupon, consistency is crucial. To be honest, I actually quite enjoyed their food. Their coffee was full of flavour but could taste slight hints of 'burnt' coffee towards the end. We ordered the big breakfast and a salmon and avocado 'best ugly bagel.' Some of the portions in the big breakfast (such as the bread) was definately too small, however I quite liked their sauteed mushrooms which were not overcooked and well seasoned. The bagel was also actually not too bad at all. There was a generous serving of smoked salmon, cream cheese and avocado which I thoroughly enjoyed. The only downside would be that there was definately a bit too much of what seemed like olive oil. What put down the rating for this place was the customer service. We were served by two waitresses, of which one waitress was extremely polite and well presented. However, the other waitress seemed like she was having a really bad day. The way that she 'thumped' the coffees onto our tables was not a pleasant feeling. We thought that it was a mistake the first time but doing it twice said it all. She did not check how our meal was nor provided us with a decent farewell. With an improvement in service, this restaurant could get much better reviews. Regardless, I do recommend this restaurant as it is a nice little place to relax and enjoy the good food.

A sad little cafe on Hurstmere Road in Takapuna.

Food is so so, the real issue is the staff and their rude attitude. Its like being served by surly teenagers who seriously don't want to be there.

They seem to spend more time on their phones texting each other than serving customers or clearing tables.

Its not a good look for the wait staff to be sitting at the tables on the street surrounded by dirty tables that badly need clearing while they smoke and text. Not sure what the owner thinks about this, perhaps he/she is fine with it, as a customer, sure puts me off.

Lots of choice in Takapuna, plenty of places that try and provide good customer service and clean tables.

UPDATE.... this is now my third time here, there have been a few bad reviews since my first visit so i thought i would see whats up. All my experiences have been on weekends, and all for breakfast. I have had no problems at all. Food has generally been as expected, and staff have been great. It is also worth noting we are a young couple with no kids, and Fiori hasn't been hectic at any of our visits.

Original: My first time at Fiori. Saw vouchers on Groupon and thought i would gove it a go. I ordered the mushroom benedict and was really surprised. Generous ammount of thick sliced button mushrooms, well seasoned, and the tomoato was cooked well, not sloppy like some places. Also ordered the fries with aioli, and they were good too, as was the coffee. Afterwards i ordered the gf salted caramel brownie, and a pumpkin cheese truffle, to share. Both were good, but i really recommend the truffle. It was fantastic. I will happily return here. They also do a range of discounted combos for dining before 10am.

Hi, I knew about this café with the voucher and my partner and I are going quit often. We try a lot of meal from them menu and everything is perfect good size and we can feel the chef is cooking by her heart. The meal presentation are lovely. The staff are very lovely and they take a time for talk with the customer. For me this cafe is just amazing and relaxing. I am just here for traveling for one year and I tried a lot of restaurant but not equal at this one. I'm enjoying there and the food are fresh. For a cafe the food are really amazing. There are some product very healthy. For me you can try this cafe and you will love it for sure. Thank you for the chef and the staff You make this cafe amazing and feel we are at home. Thank you next week for try your new meal :) . Pierre

This is the second time I have been here. My first time was quite a while ago and I believe they had different management since their layout has been changed and also has more decorations in the café. Today was my second visit and I found it mediocre. First the service was poor, I understand they were pretty busy but I felt that the waiters weren't really paying enough attention when we needed something and when I ordered an open steak sandwich, the waitress didn't even ask me how I would like my steak to be cooked. Because I'm not a steak eater so I don't really remember to mention how I like my steak to be cooked. So came to my table medium rare; I don't really mind having medium rare steak however the steak they served was really difficult to chew on and using a butter knife didn't help. The coffee was all right, I have ordered a soy flat white and it was ok. Then my friends and I ordered a carrot cake to share however we found the cake too soggy in the middle. Over all I found this experience pretty mediocre like I've mentioned before and I don't really recommend this café unless you are in desperate need.

Seems like I wasn't the only one to find that this place was not run or managed efficiently. Staff can learn a thing or two about service such as asking if everything is ok and the person who took the order should remember who is having what without again interrupting and asking who the meal is for. ( it's not a big place!) My friends got brought meals which was not what they asked for. All in all prices are what you expect in Takapuna. However the coffee and cuppa tea is superb so I'm giving this cafe a 3.

Nice little cafe with nice people, however they don't seem to now anything about customer service. The food was pretty late even though we were the only people in the cafe. Quality was reasonable. Loved orange and lemon water.

Went where for lunch today with my family and we had a really good experience. The food was awesome, quantities were huge and the service was extremely good. We had a groupon voucher but did not feel that the quantity and quality of the food or the service were compromised in any way. Would definitely go back there even without a voucher.

I went to this restaurant with 3 other friends. We ordered a few dishes from the breakfast and the lunch menu. The food was absolutely TERRIBLE. The salad leaves (mesculin) were wilted, pasta was overcooked with a lot of (unnecessary) salt, mushrooms served with eggs were thrown in without any presentation. The hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict was unappetizing and can someone please tell me who adds balsamic vinegar on a turkish bread! Omelette lacked seasoning and my friend is grappling with a stomach ache.

I will NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. Go at your own risk.

We've been twice in the last week because we've enjoyed the service, food and pricing of this cafe. I had the omlette with Salmon and Avocado and all I can say honestly is aaaaamazing. My friend had the fiori big breakfast and it definately held up to it's reputation. It's definately a favourite of ours to visit from now on

The woman at the counter was extremely rude and dismissive. Perhaps she might get a better response if she politely says that there is a wait for the table rather than pulling a face and barking at customers. In the two minutes I was there, she managed to upset another customer so much that they stormed out. Was so bad it was almost comical. Good luck getting any repeat customers.

I love the coffee in the Fiori Cafe. I buy the flat white coffee for morning tea everyday. The cakes (Tiramisu Slice, Chocolate Mudcake and Custard Slice) are very yummy. At lunch I often eat the open steak , it is really delicious. I'm not just love the delicious food. I'm very enjoy the comfy surroundings. The waitress are very politeness and earnest. Reasonable price. You can go and try. It's very nice!

Had a nice breakfast. Good food. The manager was friendly and moved the table into the shade for us. The cafe is decorated immaculately, though they chose to put the counter up front beside the street. It acts as a barrier so nobody wants to sit inside. They should move the counter to the back to make the room more inviting. So we all sat outside on the street because it was a nice day. The street is not so nice because the view is parked cars and traffic noise is annoying. No music playing.

Went for a meal, the sirloin steak was mostly gristle and fat and not cooked as requested. I think I blunted the knife trying to cut it, so I gave up. Really poor, not recommended. My wife had a similar meal and experienced the same low grade cut.
Ana Butterworth
We went there for a late lunch with a voucher, which was just in time as the kitchen closed at 4pm - not that this was mentioned on the voucher. Both our meals were large portions and really nice. The waitress was really nice and mentioned that they have 1/2 price breakfast before 10am. Definitely good value for money on a deal/with that. The place has been refurbished since the last time we were there about a year ago, so it has a really nice and chilled atmosphere. Cabinet food looked yum too! Recommended if your in the area.
Makilua
Waiter and waitress were very kind and friendly. We had macchiato, tall black, French toast and a toasted bagel with avocado, cream cheese and pesto. All was nice and delicious. We used a voucher and was well worth it!

My partner & I used a deal voucher on two different occasions, friendly staff both times : )
The portion sizes were great for a hungry guy like me! Nice and big :D
Loved the salmon : )
The Lavazza coffee here! One of the best in Auckland!
Definitely recommend : )
Sharon
Had been here a year or so back for lunch and dinner and the meals were good enough but not exceptional. However went for brunch this week and both meals were very tasty and a good size. Staff are friendly and although we didnt partake, what was in the cabinet looked very nice. They now close late afternoon and I feel that is probably a good thing for them. There are sooo many places open for dinner, why compete when you have a niche in the market earlier in the day. Much better for the family life too. I wish you well for continued success and look forward to returning again soon.

Pro: smiling staff
Con: everything else

Staff was smiling and friendly but don't seem to have a clue how to run a cafe (or even how to cook). On some tables the waitresses left a jar with water, others had big glasses, but we just got small glasses and no refills (went to counter myself to get more). They either don't come to you at all or two within 1 minute.

The food we had (eggs benedict and corn fritter) was bland, the coffee was average, and the smoothie so bad that I returned it. As I didn't get the smoothie option with ice cream, I didn't except any other milk product either. I took one sip - not only was it very milky but also super sweet. I asked the waitress about the content and she explained how she just put in one spoon of the powder. Powder? I really don't expect a cafe to give me some mix with milk and powder if I pay 7.50 for a smoothie.

The interior design wasn't inviting and didn't have taste and unfortunately even the other guests fit in the picture and had no manners (but of course not their fault). The only good thing was the smiles of the staff (and the fact that they mentioned the fact that we hadn't used all of the voucher and could get a muffin for the remaining 1.50 - not sure of the quality for that price...) and that they use free range eggs, but that didn't change enough.
Jenny
After getting menus and going to sit at outside tables, finally gave up and went to order at the counter - to be told they could not see us behind the pillar! Despite having served another man coffee closeby. Only 1 other table occupied (noticed similar thing with another group later). Breakfast: first got wrong order, then HOW CAN YOU UNDERCOOK POACHED EGGS! Egg whites were liquid....certainly not an experience we would ever repeat. Not much point putting out coupons for discounted meals if your staff would rather chat to each other.

The worst restaurant in Takapuna - probably?

We went on a wet cold night - other places were busy, but this place was deserted (for good reason).

Service was slow and the "italian" menu was just a selection of generic dishes. But they had Sirloin steak on the board which sounded good.

When the meals came, they were mixed up. The Sirlon Steak was very chewy and tough - it was either Blade Steak or more likely BulletProof vest as the steak knife had a hard time with it. We seriously debated sending the food back, but we didnt have enough time.
The till-worker was very rude and unapologietic.

BurgerFuel is nearby and a much better option - actually ANYWHERE is a better option!

My husband and I went to this restaurant for lunch in the weekend.

It was reasonably busy when we arrived and the place is quite small, but still pleasantly cosy. The decor is also quite lovely.

We were served by a staff member who is new to the job so was clearly nervous and inexperienced, but she was lovely and cheerful so we didn't mind having her look after us at all. In fact, she made sure that if she didn't know the answer to a question we asked, she would excuse herself then find out the answer.

It was a miserably cold and wet day, so my husband and I both chose the seafood chowder to start. The consistency was runny, so not very chowder-like. However, the flavour was delicious. It would probably be better named seafood soup rather than chowder.

For mains we ordered the pork belly and the lamb shank. The pork was nice enough, but I would have preferred it a little more tender. The lamb shank was delightful! The meat fell off the bone, and the merlot jus worked very well with the dish. The mash was a little on the bland side though.

For dessert we had the warm carrot & walnut cake, and also the affogato. The cake was lovely, light and moist. The affogato was excellent.

Their coffee is also very good!

Overall, it was an enjoyable dining experience and if we are around the area in the future, we would definitely dine there again.
Rachel Schuurman
We went here on a deal and definitely got value for money! The starters were fantastic - seafood chowder and soup of the day were yummy. The scallop entree was good, but the chicken tenders were not very tender -a bit overcooked. Desserts were great and waitress was helpful and friendly. You can't go wrong with the prices - FANTASTIC! The only downer was I felt the tables were a little too close together so not much intimacy for a dinner but overall we had a great night :)
Nadia Hicks
I had lunch here with my partner last Sunday we both ordered the 'Seafood Chowder'. This came out and it had no resemblance to a seafood chowder whatsoever. It came out with a few big bits of smelly seafood in a tomato slop that had a gelatin like consistency. It was inedible. We will never return.
KAR
We came here for dinner today- my friend had the chicken breast with mushroom sauce and I had the scotch fillet. Food good serving size and price was quite reasonable too. Seafood chowder looked quite nice so will try next time!

That's a great cafe. I came whith a group of friends and we ordered a french toast, pancacke, big breakfast and some coffees. Everything was so yumy and for me this is the best french toast I have ever had and my coffee was so creamy and nice temperature. I loved the service also,, the staff was really caring us. Thanks!

Very unimpressed and disappointed from my lunch today. Everything from start to end did not go right at all. We walked into the cafe and the available tables all had dirty cups and plates not cleared. We waited for quite awhile wondering if they will get round to clearing them. But we eventually got tired of waiting, so we just moved those cups and plates to the table beside us. We sat ourselves down, went to get the menu and then went up to place our orders. The guy was so preoccupied he wasn't listening to me half the time. We ordered a chicken Caesar salad and their big breakfast and a cup of flat white. Only when they brought the coffee over to our table that we told them to give our table a wipe. The coffee looked pretty weird for a flat white. Had way too much foam at the top. And I don't know what coffee art that was meant to be. The food was no greater either. My Caesar salad came out without the poached egg so I had to ask why there was no egg in it. Then he brought out the poached egg separately in a bowl. Presentation was very poor. Looked like something I could make within 5 mins at home by throwing some chopped ingredients together. The big breakfast was very small, again poor presentation and did not look appetising at all. This will be the first and last time I visit this place.
