Review Bird On A Wire - Takapuna

Paula Bishop
Went here for lunch on a Saturday. Table was a bit small but ambience of the alleyway was warm. Food was delicious. Pictured here was the Korean BBQ Chicken Baguette and BLT chicken burger. Reasonably priced. Service was good. Food was hot. Only downside was table was in a wind tunnel but heaters were on to help warm area.

Visited on a Monday night and ordered the Chicken BLT Burger with Chips. My friend ordered the Korean-Style bowl. Both meals were delicious. The food came out quickly and the staff are very friendly, holding conversations with us! The little restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing with string lights and other cute details in the alley outside. Note the restaurant itself isn't very big inside and most seating is outdoors. Lost one star as the drink fridge was completely empty except 1 kid's juice box. No fizzy drinks or other drinks were available for us to purchase so we just had water. Additional notes: No parking on site - must park in the Takapuna pay and park.

I have recently had the pleasure of dining at Bird on Wire, and I must say it was an experience that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism by the friendly staff. Their commitment to providing exceptional service was evident throughout my entire visit. The waitstaff (Indian Girl) at Bird on Wire were incredibly attentive, catering to my every need without being intrusive. They were well-informed about the menu and offered insightful recommendations, ensuring that I had a memorable culinary journey. I truly appreciated their attention to detail, as they seamlessly anticipated my preferences and dietary restrictions. Speaking of the menu, the food at Bird on Wire was nothing short of exceptional. Each dish was crafted with precision and care, showcasing the culinary expertise of the talented chefs. The flavors were vibrant and the presentation was stunning, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to both quality and aesthetics. The menu offered a delightful range of options, accommodating various tastes and dietary requirements. Bird on Wire has something to satisfy every palate. The ingredients were fresh, and the dishes were thoughtfully curated to create a harmonious balance of flavors. I particularly recommend trying their signature dish - an absolute masterpiece that left me craving for more. Keep it up guys.

Buttermilk fried chicken was 💯 Service was really friendly 🥰

No complaints about the food. The fried chicken was really good! Just... Why's there so much bird poo on the seats?
Marielle Ibarra
The food was tasty and the portion size was pretty big as it should be for the $22 you shell out! But I ordered a korean fried chicken burger and it didn't quite taste like what I expected...? Either I got a different order or their take on Korean Fried Chicken Burger was, let's say... unique :) in any case, the experience was good overall so I'm not complaining.

We wandered around Takapuna looking for somewhere nice to eat. As it was a public holiday the whole area was buzzing and it took ages to find anywhere and we ended up here. I kind of wanted to not like this place, but I couldn't. The service was great, the food was excellent, the venue was fresh, new and really cool. I definitively recommend going here.

Great place to have to meal, my son really enjoyed the kids meal with chocolate milkshake and I enjoyed my coffee too. Service was lovely!

Had a great meal here, a spicy korean chicken bowl to takeaway packed so much flavor! The team here were super friendly and efficient, highly recommend this place for a quick, healthy meal. James Ashwin Kakapo Business Sales

What a great place for chicken lovers and vegetarians! Meals where superb and full of flavor, well priced. I would refer to bird on a wire as a very up market KFC which is all round healthier and better value. Funky little lane its in gives a great vibe with some hussle and bussel. The menu could be improved so its more understandable what you get.

Yummy food and really nice and polite staff. It was a bit cold out so there was a blanket waiting on the table for anyone who wanted it, and of course the heater was switched on. Food was really good and filling, it’s a bit pricy but it is quality food in Takapuna and you end up spending around the same amount on a filling meal from somewhere like Macca’s anyway. :) 5/5

The food is amazing. The place is under new ownership and the quality/hospitality has exceeded my expectations. I really enjoyed their salads and fried chicken (delicious). Dont forget their coffee, also pretty good!!!

My partner and I love the coffee from here, is so damn good!! Highly recommend the baguettes, are so filling and yummy.

Delicious food.. had the chicken schnitzel and buttermilk fried chicken. Big portions and the fries were the best I’ve had in a while. Food came out relatively fast and the new owner was friendly 😊
Rebecca S
Wonderful surroundings. Beautiful food - I had Korean Crispy Chicken with coleslaw and fries. A generous serving. Fresh-as! The coffee superb and extra hot as requested. We will return again soon. Thanks 😊
Tammy
I had high expectations considering the Schnitzel bowl was the most expensive "bowl" I've ever ordered. Sadly, it was bland, and gave the illusion it was thrown together in 10 seconds (despite taking 20 mins to prepare!). Too much sauce! Will certainly not be returning!

It Wasn’t tasty at all. Doesn’t worth money.

Me and my partner arrived at this place because it was takapuna restaurant month in october. I was keen to try the bird on the waffle. It is normally priced at around $19 but it's on special at $15 this month.<br/>I love this dish. I thought the combination of the food was amazing. The presentation was also really good. Personally not a fan of the mascarpone though.<br/>The employees there were also super friendly.<br/>I just thought that the tables could be cleaner because it was sticky when I touched it. I did ask someone to wipe it down for us which they were happy to do.<br/>From this experience alone I am going to rate it 5 stars! If it was it's normal price though I might give it a four star just because I think it is slightly overpriced :'(<br/>Delicious though!

Fantastic atmosphere, great food and friendly and helpful staff. The location was great as you are tucked away from the busy street and in a lane of smells that are as inviting as the music and laugh being herd. The food is fresh and crisp and refreshing, I ordered chicken parmigiana with slaw & chips and it was fantastic. The chicken was cooked to a golden crispy perfection and the slaw with fennel is refreshing and a lovely tasting surprise. My partner ordered the un-bird burger with the portabello mushroom being a huge hit. Super tasting and filling making it a must try burger. Also, the staff are very friendly and helpful with letting you know what they like and what sort of tastes they have. One staff member in particular is Mandy. She is friendly, bubbly and more than happy to offer help if asked whats she has eaten and likes from the menu. Will eat here again and look forward to being in a great location with fantastic food.

I ordered the classic baguette and the filling was pretty nice, however the baguette itself was impossible to bite or cut with a knife. This may have been because they overbaked the baguette? Anyways it took me ages to finish as this baguette did not want to be eaten.
Anastasia Matiatos
Bird On A Wire is the damn og place, been here so many times and always get the same baguette. The baguette I always get is called 'The Classic Baguette' which has chicken, mayo and cos in it, it's pretty basic for $11 but it's really fresh and yum. I wouldn't say it's worth $11 it's a bit pricey man. Although I would recommend going here as all the food is freshly served and all looks super cute in instagram photos x

We got a the chicken with the Fresh Herb, Lemon & Confit Garlic baste which tasted great and paired well with the moist chicken. Although, I do feel like more sauce should have been provided considering the fact that it costs another $3 to add on and was definitely not enough to go along with all the chicken.<br/><br/>The combination of two salads - Vietnamese and Summer, were light and refreshing. However, the Chicken Fat Roasted Agria Potatoes were incredibly stale, tough, and the skin made it quite painful to chew. Overall, this place just didn’t live up to the wonderful experience I had at the Ponsonby store a few years back.

Quick dinner option Bird on a wire has a selection of exciting salads you can pair with their delicious free range 🐓 chicken. Lots of nutrients, super fast and tasty! .

It just wasn’t that great...<br/><br/>The pancakes chicken didn’t really work. Staff was friendly. Might go back to try something else in the future. <br/><br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Presentation: 4/5<br/>Environment: 4/5<br/>Food Quality: 2/5<br/>Food Quantity: 3/5<br/>Price per person: $20-$30

Since I’m such a big fan of Nandos, I decided to give this place a try. The rotisserie chicken was pretty good. Piping hot with crispy skin. I’m a bit conflicted about the texture of the meat though. Pretty sure majority of people will enjoy it since it’s so tender that you barely need to chew at all, but for me it was to the point of being mushy. We tried it with the mushroom truffle butter basting, which just tasted like melted butter. Buttermilk fried chicken was overcooked and under seasoned making it bland and dry, but after smothering it with the sauces it was bearable. Hot wings were also dry and the marinade wasn’t good either. Wide range of salads. Tried curry kumara, Japanese slaw and Mexican potato. Not bad but a bit on the pricey side for a small portion of salad. Chips were really good though. Overall pretty disappointing, but I’d definitely rather go back to Nandos next time.<br/><br/>The weird thing was when I had posted my experience on Instagram, they reached out to me saying that from the photos it was obvious the fried chicken was over cooked and asked me details of what date and time I went. When I provided these, they left me on “seen” and never replied... I guess I’ll never know what they were up to.

Nice place with outdoor seating.<br/><br/>Good for groups up to 6 people.<br/><br/>The fries is a must have ! The chicken dish is good...mine is a little dry but Luckily you can purchase baste for additional flavor.<br/><br/>Staff is friendly

Been here several times, but today I bought a vast salad, which has spoiled rice, broccoli and cauliflower.Just disappointed as your royal customer, please check your food before them put on window, especially in summer, salad could easily spoil.
SpoonMe
Ordered a medium size salad with 120g of chicken. Kind of expensive but so worth it! The salads were both well seasoned with a yummy dressing and the chicken was moist and tender. I’d definitely get this again! <br/>Grab it to go and eat it by the beach:)
Angela_an
Waited 25 mins for a chicken wrap, but the people who ordered after me all got their orders before me from the kitchen. When I had half of my wrap I discovered an unidentified object in my wrap which was about the size of a thumbnail. Not happy.
Tan.ned
Their chicken is so tender! Highly recommend it. Well seasoned and falls off the bone. Couldn't get enough! reasonably priced too. Very friendly staff. Good service.

I ordered through UberEats recently - the blueberry buckwheat pancakes were freaking awesome and I’m glad they gave me plenty of syrup on the side (syrup fiend). I do like that they are ethical. I’ve been here on a few occasions but the pancakes were the first thing that I had fresh from the kitchen. They were great, and I look forward to trying their sandwiches also.

Nice vibe and delicious! Chicken was moist and tasty the gravy honestly super yummy. Worth trying . Beer battered chips were drool worthy and I’m not a chip fan but honestly divine
Mandy Rajanah
Delicious wholesome food at a great price. The fried chicken with a side salad and a side of beer battered chips were absolutely divine! Great atmosphere and 10/10 for customer service! Will definitely be back!
Lucykim0626
The food was great as usual. Food itself we would give 4.5 stars.<br/>We had mixture of salads and a roasted whole chicken. Healthy Roast Sunday! <br/>It would have been a perfect lunch if the staff were bit more organized and friendly.
Waiwera
The chicken was slimy (due to it all being thigh chicken) and that didn’t help by the copious dollops of mayonnaise mixed in with sloppy, hot tinned peach slices on top. Put me off chicken and peaches this place. 😑
Nashiba Daliri
I had a very high expectation for this place, as their instagram pics are amazing. Their salad is not worth the money, spend $20 for a salad. First of all the large is actually a med size, lettuce, cabbage and all ingredients was so old and brown looking. Chicken was test less and chacked on it. Overall Doesn’t worth the money. Having salad in a cafe is so much nicer.

Comparing with other restaurants in Takapuna their food is not too expensive, can easily go there for lunch also.<br/>Nice and clean, friendly staff great atmosphere reminded me of Melbourne.<br/>

Review #2: <br/>After enjoying the Korean Fried Korean Bird Burger first time round, I returned to Bird on A Wire to enjoy the burger all over again. Second time round I was hugely disappointed by the time it took to bring the food to our table, impolite staff, and a very disappointing burger. Three of my colleagues and I went to have lunch here. We placed our order under the same table number. Two of my colleague got their food within 5 minutes. Whereas, myself and another colleague had to wait a good 30 minutes, by which time the other colleagues had finished eating. On querying the whereabouts of my food and telling the waitress that we order the food together and two of my colleagues received their food and we had to wait 30 minutes before we got our food, I was told that our order was not put through together. When the burger arrived I was extremely disappointed by the amount of chicken it had. To add further to my disappointment the chicken was extremely dry. I had returned to this place because I had loved the burger when I had first tried it. But second time round was very disappointing. If you choose to go here be prepared to wait a good half an hour for your food, with a side of impolite service. <br/><br/>Review #1:<br/>This place has the best Korean chicken burger. They also have some decent salad deals. However, be prepared to wait as this place usually has long queues during lunch times. Overall, would definitely return to have their burgers and wraps.

Yummmyy! 👌🏼 We got the buttermilk fried chicken, Korean bird burger and the chicken schnitzel. The burger was my favourite with the kimchi! Food came out quite fast. Love the shared outdoor seating and lights. Messed up our order slightly but the great service and free fries totally made up for it! We really enjoyed the sauce that came with the fries!
Hyeon Sung
It was so delicious, we got 2 for 30dollar chicken salad with truffle butter and korean bbq baguette.<br/>Chicken was so succulent and was amazing with butter.

Great spot in Takapuna to get your chicken fix! Loved the BLT burger I had and the fries were great too with the Sriracha Mayo. Would visit for lunch again :)
Sheryn Walker
I had the BLT chicken burger and the freshly squeezed lemonade. The food came really quickly and tasted absolutely amazing and was also really filling. While the dining space was small it was really cute and cosy and the waitresses were really nice and friendly.

Decent some what healthy food. Had a potato salad with mixed leaves red onion capsicum and dressing. Was good and decent size for medium. Would have been nice to have maybe a bit of pumpkin or beetroot to add an extra flavour otherwise good. Also had the fried chicken was ok but the sauce selection it comes with makes it great . Slightly on the higher price end . Heard a group of teenagers saying how expensive this place was but ate here anyway. I would definitely come back . Nice food friendly good service

Another gem in Takapuna. My go to place for lush salads and great for a quick yet nutritious meal. Lovely ambience and there is something for everyone.

Just finished up family lunch at Takapuna location. From the moment we sat down the waitress was inattentive and not engaged with her customers. Music was loud and sounded liked something from a young teenage Glassons retail clothing store. Ended up having to go up to the counter and order despite eating in. Food came out quickly but was average compared to when we are in Orakei 2 weeks ago. My kids drumsticks were so dry it was difficult to tear the meat. The chips were good. Despite kids meals supposed to come with Garvey they cam with tomato sauce (so I has to go back and ask for the gravy). Bread came out with no butter so again I had to go up and ask for butter. At least they replaced the drumsticks which was good but then I started getting extremely annoyed when I found a black hair in my meal. That was the icing on the cake for bad inattentive service and average food. In the end after complaining again the entire meal was refunded - their saving grace. However will not being going back their soon. I hope consistency improves before they start expanding. They need to get the basics right.

This restaurant is a JOKE !!! The portion of food is a rip off for the price. $5 for a few small pieces of tofu, only half of their smallest cup was filled! We went back straight away to tell the staff and they didn't do anything to resolve the issue...
Tt_akl
Had the loads of chicken and medium salad. Very dry and cold chicken. I've had their chicken before in Ponsonby branch where it was tender and warm and delicious but don't know what happen here. Average salad, and the pumpkin soup is a bit overwhelming for me, firstly it was served barely warm, had to ask to heat it up, with way too much parsley @.@ Awesome staff service made the terrible meal better I guess.
Deena
I had the chicken feed which is a combo meal - 1/4 chicken, bread and salad. The potato salad had no flavour and no seasoning, quite disappointing, whereas the chicken with Korean BBQ baste was incredibly tasty and the chicken was super moist and delicious. So would definitely come back for the chicken but try another salad.

On a Sunday afternoon, me and my group of friends went to this place for drinks. It was really quiet and there wasnt any other customers around. The girl serving us was very unfriendly and unwelcoming. Coffee and tea we ordered took them over 30minutes to make. To make it worse, coffee cups they served ua with were dirty. I do not recommend this place at all.
Kiwi888
We ordered takeaway for two which was chicken, two salads and bread.<br/><br/>Asked for a coleslaw and potato salad, bread was included.<br/><br/>Both salads were put in the same container, 80% coleslaw and 20% potato salad. Would much rather have had salads served equally and separate.<br/><br/>Bread, two skinny slices. Very disappointing.<br/><br/>All in all. 2.5 out of 10.<br/><br/><br/><br/>

I have only been once, might have to give it another shot. The food looked good and the service was great, but the food itself wasn't that tasty.
Diner8Here
had the quarter chook dish with slaw and a bread roll, is tender but dry and crispy had a coke with this too but forgot to give me, so did apologise.  A generous serving of slaw too in which i cannot finish.<br/>Set me back 20$ came to the shore branch for a try and change of scenery.
Jessica
The time I have been here the food was very tasty. I had the gravy roll and a fresh juice. It was good for a quick lunch and has good outside area for myself and my friends to sit out and chat without feeling like everyone could hear us talking. The service was average but it's not one of those places you go and have to interact with the that staff much anyways. Would recommended to anyone who is after an easy choice for a quick dinner to eat in or takeaway cause the salads looked super yummy to bring home for a dinner one night.

I am Chicken OBSESSED and after many many reviews from friends raving about this place I finally had the opportunity to try the chicken here. I LOVE the Bahn Mi my fave!!!
Greg Brown
The ambience is terrific and my partner and I excited to try. The service was poor, unfriendly and not welcoming. The omelette and poached eggs ordered with coffees to accompany. We received no sugar for the coffee, salt or pepper for the food and needed to ask. The omlete had slices of chicken sausage? With burnt 8 day old bread. My partners bacon cold and came with the same burnt bread. For $50+ this was very disappointing. It's an experience I would not recommend.
Ashleigh Burgess
Friendly staff who were more than happy to help me work out what I could have for breakfast and they even do decaf! Creamy strong coffee - first sign a place is going to be good. <br/><br/>I had the baked eggs and my partner had the breakfast platter. Food was hot, flavorsome and so well presented! It was almost too pretty to eat. The eggs were cooked to perfection - these guys can poach an egg! <br/><br/>Definitely returning next time we're in Auckland

Bloody delicious!!! Is all one can say, have been here several times as we were trying to try out all the food outlets in the alleyway but kept coming back. Jerk Chicken is my fav options to have in roll or salad busy little place & i don't need to wonder why .

Got my Lunch from Bird on A Wire the other day. Some kind of potato salad, Mexican salad .. and i was feelin real greedy that day so topped it off with some of their amazing tofu! The food was great, really filled the spot and tasted great. Would make it 5 stars but its just so pricey!! Love the food! Great service too!
Caitlin
Have been craving bird on a wire for ages so popped into the Takapuna branch for the first time today (I usually go to Ponsonby). <br/>firstly I found the service to be unfriendly and I felt that the staff members were frustrated that I didn't know my salad choices immediately. The staff were very short with me and it made me feel really awkward. There wasn't a huge selection of different salads either and they all looked quite dry. My partner ordered a chicken wrap and we waited at least 15 minutes for our food to come. The staff member did say sorry for the wait but then dumped our food and walked off. Everything was just really dry and disappointing. I paid $14 for a medium salad with a little bit of chicken and my partner paid $12 for quite a small wrap.<br/>Was super disappointed today and not sure if I'll choose to spend my hard earned money here again.
Chris Wright
Reasonably good food but diabolical value for money, chicken rolls are reasonable price but if you look at the prices of quarter/half/full chicken it's daylight robbery
Kat. Jordan
Quick coffee fix before a late night drive. Nice, fast service but my mocha tasted kind of funny? Maybe off milk? Maybe fancy organic milk I haven't tried before? Who knows? I drank it anyway as I got used to the taste and I don't feel sick yet, so here's hoping.
Caitlin Crawford
One of my favourite places to go for lunch or dinner on the shore, especially for a good salad! The selection available is really good and changes from season to season, and they also have an additional menu with a great selection of chicken dishes, sides, sandwiches and drinks etc. Pretty $$ but you get what you pay for. Only critique would be sometimes the takapuna branch can have limited seating and you have to share tables with other parties but not a big deal, and some of the staff aren't always onto it, but most of the time it's a great experience! I usually order the traditional potato salad with the winter slaw or Japanese slaw, and with chicken - the chicken is the standout! Also recommend the rolls (especially the Korean BBQ one), the sides of chips, and the house made sodas. 😊😊😊

Quick, healthy and delicious takeout, we ordered big bird ($60), consists of free-range succulent roast chicken, 2 large salad - you can choose up to three flavors in one box (we tried a little bit of everything and they are all full of flavor, the only downside the container wasn't filled to the full potential so a bit small for a large side. We left with lots of chicken and no more salad!). It also comes one crunchy baguette. Dip it with their tasty gravy, oh so heavenly. Wish they'd do bigger size sauce/gravy - only sell a small punnet for $3. Service was very friendly.
Cushla Bloomfield
Our first takeaway from here.<br/>Whole Chicken $30 was very dry & not very tasty wouldn't buy again.<br/>Salad & chips were okay. Very dissappointed.
Manuela Ovalle Herrera
This is the ideal place if you really want to go out for dinner but don't want anything too unhealthy, the chicken is always cooked perfectly and the salads are just wow! <br/>The meal for two is such a good price at $30 and a great portion, we never leave hungry after this meal.
Tiffany A
Best beer battered chips I've tasted!! Delicious and well perfectly cooked chicken schnitzel! It was nice and crispy! The chicken burger was pretty nice too! Would definitely go back here again!!
Michael
No so much a fan of the quarter / half chicken options as I think slathering on a baste after cooking doesn't really do much in terms of getting flavour in there. <br/><br/>However, I think it's worth 4/5 for the Banh Mi alone. Hence the rating.<br/><br/>Salads are generally pretty good too.
Sam Varghese
Good fast food corner with some Healthy salads. Open seating arrangements, they also have some nice healthy juice for drinks. Overall, if you're looking for a fast food healthy place to eat, this is where you need to be 😄

We visited BirdOn A Wire twice within a week. We ordered whole chicken with truffle butter sauce sharing among four of us, fries, two lemonade soda, then we extra ordered 2 portions of Takapuna fried chicken. This cost us $70.<br/><br/>It was very airy and comfortable having meal there. Where the fine in customers seated was a walkway, shaded but not all covered.<br/><br/>The chicken was so good! With or without the sauce, especially the skin was so tasty (honestly I am not a chicken skin fan). The fried chicken was slightly spicy. But we all love it.<br/><br/>Overall experience was fantastic except for limited car park nearby especially during dinner time.
Jasmine Chai
Had a chicken feed for one here today. The order basically consisted of a chicken leg and thigh, a cous cous salad and part of a french baguette. Taste wise, I would not say that their food is spectacular - especially considering their menu prices. Chicken was a tad bland. I could only taste salt really. The salad was also pretty mediocre. Don't think we'll be returning to be honest!
Lmrliu74
Their roast chicken is just divine.  I usually order a gravy chicken roll whenever I visit the place.  The salads are delicious according to my friends.  If you need a quick fix for your hunger, this is the place to be.  Highly recommended!
Kelly Sanderson
I went to Bird On A Wire today with a friend and ordered a coffee and salad with chicken. I selected two salads which were both very tasty, the chicken also worked very well alongside it. Coffee was also really good. Service was very fast and the surroundings inviting and modern.
Genie @ BunnyEatsDesign
We were invited for lunch at Bird on a Wire Takapuna to try their tofu and fried chicken. We supplemented these with a couple of tasty beverages, more chicken and a salad. Everything was delicious, though if I had to choose, I prefer their original rotisserie chicken over their fried chicken as it was juicier. I like tofu and this one was really good. The prices are reasonable for free range chicken and I liked the tasty healthy options. Great for a quick guilt free lunch. I’ve also had their BOAW rolls at various festivals and they’re always super fresh and tasty.
Annie Ren
Bird on a wire perfects the simplicity of eating chicken and salad. I found their grilled chicken tender and juicy but what I love the most if their selection of salads. Made from fresh and tasty ingredients such as beetroot, bean sprouts, carrots etc., their salads capture not only my eyes but also my stomach! I love the freshness and tastiness of the salads!
Iain
Great takeaway place, love the gravy roll. We did a family size takeaway one time and the food was brilliant but, we got a little caught out on the price. Highly recommend this place buy watch your budget!<br/>
Cindy Wu
We have been going to Bird on A Wire several times and loves it.<br/>Their salads are light and delicious, with dressing that's just the right amount and pairs beautifully with their different ranges. There is a good range of different salads so anyone can find their favourite. I recommend the Asian slaw, with their sweat and sour dressing that is particularly moreish on a hot and sunny day. The potatoe salad is also recommended for something that is more filling yet refreshing.<br/><br/>Their chicken is just as lovely, it is tender and juicy, skin just the right crispness, and beautifully accompanied with the baguette.<br/><br/>All of this is washed down smoothly with their house-made lemonade, which is absolutely delicious and I'd dare say better than any of those branded soft drinks!<br/><br/>Overall, very impressed with Bird On A Wire, you'd think one would never be able to fill up on just salad and greens, but we always order the Meal for Two, and this let us leave the place with a full belly every time. Definitely value for money. We are so stoked that they've opened one on the Shore, will definitely visit again and again.

We have been meaning to try Bird on a Wire for a while and finally went there for an early lunch today.  We ordered the hot American Chicken Wings, Banh Mi, Jerk Chicken roll and beer battered fries.  We shared all dishes so we could sample a range of dishes.  The rolls were both very generous portions, full of succulent chicken, and flavoursome.  All ingredients -  bread, chicken, herbs, spices and vegetables - were quality and this combines to make the food superb.  The chicken wings were good without being special, but the beer battered fried fries were divine.  The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff very professional and the music - the blues - great.  There are also a number of healthy appetising looking salads on offer, which had come highly recommended - perhaps next visit.

This will definitely become a new local when I'm looking for something healthy with reasonable pricing in Takapuna! <br/><br/>My friend and I tried the Italian baguette which was delicious. The chicken was perfect, not too dry. I loved the herbed Mayo it came with too, definitely the star of the dish. The bread was also very crisp and fresh! <br/><br/>I've had a few of the salads from bird on a wire before and have never been disappointed. Will definitely be back, can't get enough of this place!

My favourite healthy takeaways! Love coming to both the Ponsonby and takapuna outlets for health y food on the go. Love how fast the food is prepared. Salads are great and the chicken rolls are nomnomnom, favourite one has to be the schnitzel roll. The housemade cola is tasty. If feeling a little naughtier the chips are always a great add on. Customer service is great, love the rewards system, gathering points and getting $5 off or a free roll is so easy when you go here as much as I do

This place was great. Loved the look of the salad options, especially the fact that the bigger the size, the more choices you got. I opted for the Italian roll on special which was delicious, there was a decent amount of filling and the sauce was really yummy, and also ensured it wasn't dry. I had a freshly squeezed juice too which the staff kindly put ice in for me, something I really appreciated. Will be returning to try salads hopefully!
Sophia Ignateva
The salads are amazing! Sometimes done of the waiters can be quite ride which is really disturbing! Also would be really good if the salads would change more often! And the price would stop raising all the time! Nice coffees and juices though!
Emily Pavey
Delicious!! Veggie burger for me packed full of egg, cheese and fresh salad, and the dirty chicken burger for my partner. He loved it although could've done with more chicken. We tried house made ginger soda and lemon soda (they were out of house made cola) and they were so fresh and full of flavour without being too sweet. Great service from the girls here too. Great, clean, funky interior, perfect stop for lunch. A tad pricey but will be back!
Lily
The restaurant is amazing. Healthy. Clean. Delicious and fast. I had a dirty chicken burger and roasted potatoes. Pretty healthy. Not too oily or sausy! They have a range of salads and roasted chicken as well. Will definitely go there again to try other dishes. I loved it.

I ordered a large salad for takeaway today. The takeaway boxes come in 4 sizes. I was originally thinking of getting the medium sized salad ($10) but when looking at the boxes on the counter, the box looked tiny, so I opted for the large ($15). The large box would have similar dimensions to a medium from Tank. Unfortunately I did not expect them to pack the box like crazy, so I ended up with enough salad for 2!! <br/><br/>The salads I chose (could choose up to 3 for the large option) were the Superfood Salad and the Potato Salad. I also added 'loads' of pulled chicken. Both salads were great and super filling! <br/><br/><br/><br/>

I personally don't rate the food. It's one of those cases of great marketing, setup and lots of money invest but the chicken is the same as a countdown one, salads are not that fresh and their grave is very salty. Potatoes tasted like microwave and old.<br/>Very pricey for what it is.<br/>The icing on the cake was the cashier, who was inpatient a bit rude and not very friendly.<br/>Save yourself some Money get a new world free range full chicken for the price of half a. C hook.

Great chicken and a good range of salads, quality fresh products and I love the efficiency of the staff, would gladly recommend the place to anyone #g1 GideonMarisa MasterchefNz2015

Love the setup at the Takapuna shop! it was a good lunch time experience and a lot better looking than the Ponsonby store as you can sit down! good selection of salads and lovely moist chicken! #g1

My friend and I had a really nice lunch here a few weeks ago. I had previously tried their chicken at an expo but it was nice to get to try the full experience. I had a sandwich with Jamaican jerk chicken and it was so delicious. I had a side of a kumara salad but I really didn't need it since I was so full already. My friend had the Korean BBQ chicken sandwich and she said it was amazing. The only thing I didn't like was the seating area - I'm not a massive fan of shared tables and I hate cutlery already being on the tables after seeing kids getting their hands all over them at cafes before. It's fairly dark and shady in there, even at lunch time, so it's not somewhere you'd linger over meals at all. I'll definitely return - I tried to the other day but there was a bit of a queue so I decided to go elsewhere.

Rotisserie chicken at its best! Would say best in Auckland! the "for two" option is the best deal imo~ salads are also great!<br/><br/>ps the fried chicken however needs a major overhaul.

Amazing chicken-best healthy feed in Taka! Love the gravy Roll and jerk roll (though not real jerk Caribbean flavour). Salads are always fresh and Fred for 2 is a deal and a half. <br/><br/>The beer battered chips with Harissa Mayo are life changing.... Though definitely not the healthy option. Also love this place for free soda water-wish more places did this as an option.
Coral Stroud
One of my favourite places to eat at, you get such a generous amount for the feeds and the chicken is always cooked perfectly. Favourite salad is the curried kumara 👅 . Really keen to try the new fried chicken as well

the drink was really cold and refreshing except it had way too much of the sour spinach taste. though the customer service was good and friendly

I love their rotisserie chicken - cooked to perfection. Their chicken breast (my least fav part of the chicken) is so damn juicy. I love their selection of bastings to put a little flavour but even on its own the chicken is just as tasty. I really like their salad selection also, great flavour just not your boring greens. Meal for two $37 which is not bad and it's healthy. The cashier lady was really helpful and friendly and showed us the best option. My only complaint is just check their cutlery, as I feel it wasn't washed/scrubbed properly and it still hd food residue. I noticed this with a few of their cutlery. Other than that I look forward to trying other things on their menu. <br/><br/>Food: 4.5/5<br/>Service: 4.5/5<br/>Ambiance: 4/5

Such a yummy place to go, went there for my work dinner and ordered a few family deals which were incredible, taste amazing and so many choices for salads and the chicken was perfectly cooked. Definitely recommend

New place in Takapuna! Great to see a lot of new passionate dining places opening in the shore. <br/><br/>Their meal is so healthy that I don't feel guilty of eating a lot if you know what I mean. I had chicken and salad(potato and japanese coleslaw) with Korean BBQ sauce and Jamaican Jerk sauce. <br/><br/>The chicken was crispy on the skin and tender inside (with juiciness) Both of the sauces were delicious! I was quite surprised with their Korean BBQ sauce as I am Korean. I actually wanted to ask them how they made it. It tastes like korean red pepper paste but it has an european twist! Jamaican Jerk was so delicious too. <br/><br/>I LOVED their japanese coleslaw. The dressing is just to die for. I wish I could get rid of coriander in it (because I HATE it) so I could dig in. Potato salads were yum and healthy taste. <br/><br/>There was a lot of people came to the shop while i was eating to get some takeaways as well :) nice and healthy alternative of KFC as a takeaway for a dinner.<br/><br/>I wish they could do something with the entrance so that the wind doesnt get into the shop when its freezing cold and windy. My food got cold and I was shaking while eating because it was so windy and cold! The heater didnt do much of work.. Takapuna gets windy so often so I definitely would recommend the owner to fix this problem

Had the chicken roll and chips, was quite nice. <br/>The salads in the counter look amazing

Tried their salads and their chicken menu... And I FELL IN LOVE. Chicken+salad is my go-to and Bird on a Wire does such an excellent job. Had free range roast chicken with three different salads that all went so well with the chicken, and roast potatoes. Their "for two people" menu is very fulfilling. And their Japanese soda 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 can't give enough thumbs up for this place. Friendly staff, great atmosphere for friends and family, even the mums and babies. If you haven't been, you won't regret.

If you love the P Rd Bird on a Wire, you will love this one even more. Seems like they have twice as many salad options and also more seating, and probably a trendier fitout. We had the half box, which came with roast chicken (super succulent and crispy tasty skin) with three salad options (get the noodle salad - woohoo) and some baguette. This new area in Taka is really showing some pizazz and was good to get to see how the other half eat :-) Great value and fun to boot.

So Delicious! I loved the food here!  <br/>The salads were yum and the prices weren't super expensive!  <br/>I also loved the service, I wanted to try two types of seasoning for my chicken and they didn't make a big fuss about it which was great!
Anna Harding
Great place to pick up healthy and fresh food to go! A nice alternative to going to a roast shop. I had a chicken and gravy sandwich which was messy but yum! Next time I will have to try to the whole chicken. Definitely worth a try as a yummier alternative to the oily fast food/takeaways.

Come here often for their sandwiches. At around $10 a pop they are great value, and everything from the bread to the sauce is of the highest quality. Really makes a difference to the final bite in your mouth. Well worth trying.

This place has a real warm and inviting vibe. Super cute and the workers are always smiley and friendly. The salad I wanted had run out, but my second choice was nice, if a little bland. Ingredients very fresh and yummy. Felt good about myself after eating this salad, plus it filled me up as the portions are huge!!!
HungryGirl
Always had excellent, high standard food with great service. Loyalty programme means you get a lot of free food which is always a bonus! Since my girlfriend is a meat eater and I'm a vegetarian it provides a nice variety so we don't argue!

The place is too cute! Vibe is very warm and inviting. I got the curried kumara salad with loads of pulled chicken. I love that they have so many salad options. It's very customisable. <br/><br/>The food tastes good but wasn't WOW for me like some other healthy joints. The girls I was with thought it was pretty good. <br/><br/>I'll definitely be back when I'm feeling like a healthy lunch. I want to try a sandwich or a basted chicken next time. They look delicious!
Cararmel Queen
Cute concept! All chicken dishes and quite a number of things to choose from. Side salads all looked great. I just got a quarter chicken with a Korean BBQ baste. Yum! If I was more hungry I would have given one of the burgers a try! I went with about 8 girls and I kept hearing them all say how yum their dishes were. Would be nice if you could choose your type of chicken cut though as I'm not a fan of much else other then chicken breast but got a leg! Still yum though!

They've managed to find the coolest little alleyway in Takapuna to set up shop. It's got a Ponsonby Central feel to it. The food was great. All looked healthy and fresh, the jerked chicken was to die for, and the portion sizes were bang on. A good coffee and a roll was all you needed. The great service was an added little extra.

There was a huge hype about bird on a wire opening. <br/>And for once it's lived up to expectations.<br/>The chicken and gravy roll is fantastic.<br/>By far my first pick but the rest of the range is great as well.<br/>I was not won over by the wings they were dry.<br/>But otherwise been here a number of times and will keep coming back.

I absolutely adore the food at Bird on a Wire. It's simple, healthy, fresh and tastes delicious. <br/><br/>The chicken is always cooked to perfection and the salads are always full of flavour. If you want extra flavour then try the Jamaican Jerk baste. <br/><br/>I went to the Takapuna Bird on a Wire for dinner with a friend and unfortunately most of the seating is outside which makes it horribly cold in Winter. I won't be returning again for a sit down dinner over Winter but i'll be back again in Summer because I love the food so much!

Located in the new complex called Fortieth & Hurstmere, Bird on a Wire is a welcomed addition to the Takapuna eatery scene. Their delicious sandwiches, made with proper baguette (I know what I'm talking about, I'm French), are all very tasty with a preference for the Korean BBQ and the classic roll. The Dirty Bird Burger is flavoursome too, but quite difficult to eat. Even though you don't go there for dessert, their brownie is one the best I've eaten in Takapuna (and maybe even NZ) so far! One question though: why are the take away sandwiches smaller than the "eat here" option?!

After going to the Ponsonby outlet I had high expectations. The guy who served us seemed as high as a kite and once my girlfriend had gotten her gravy roll the chicken was minimal and it was drowned in sauce, for a place called bird on a wire we expected more meat than sauce. I ordered the special burger of the week and waited 15 minutes after my girlfriend to get my food which was fine but the fact that when I did get it, the food was cold which was highly annoying after waiting so long. It all tasted fine but I expected higher quality considering the Ponsonby one was amazing.

In a world where food is getting pricier, and flavours are getting a bit to cliche the bastes from the boys and girls at Bird On a Wire are a godsend. They all have creativity in them, and true to their heritage the food here really is fit for those whom consider their body a temple. A short, concise menu done well - the salads and wraps are excellent! One of my favourite casual eateries in Auckland.

In love!!! The salads and house sodas are great! The only problem is that it's a little expensive. But it's a nice treat. The staff are all very nice, the food is great. What more could you ask for?

Been wanting to come here for a while and so glad I did. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The gravy roll I chose was made with fresh ingredients and had the perfect amounts of sauce and ingredients to make it not dry and not soggy. I also got a really nice coffee. I'll definitely be back!

i eat here about 3 times a week... the chicken feed for one is my perfect lunch portion!  combined with curried kumera salad and the beetroot and carrot salad i couldn't suggest anything that would make this meal better !! <br/><br/>being in an alleyway and super cold at the moment i would be ideal to stop the draft that fly's through there. but food wise this is the most tasty and healthy lunch in the area!  $16 for a feed is okay by me. <br/><br/>also... they have a nice bottle of Pinot nior (miners daughter) which is paired well with the food on a Friday lunch :)

Everything I have tried on the menu so far has been really good. I was promised amazing wings from a mate and he was right...the bread they use for the rolls is artisan level... I am so in love with this place, when I forgot my food on the roof of my car and drove away... I turned around to look for it. That's how much a fan I am of the food. <br/><br/>And Yes I found my brown paper bag, In the middle of the intersection, unscathed and well. No one would dare run over food this good.

Visited for a quick lunch, I had a mix of two salads with chopped chicken and my partner had the special chicken burger. Little bit pricy but overall worth it for fresh and healthy food that is often hard to come by when looking for quick lunch options! Only negative was the salads were pretty dry as the dressing was only put on top of the salad/chicken. Would be better if they tossed it through before serving!
Mind The Crumbs
We went in on a Saturday night and got 'Big Bird' and wow, I didn't know chicken and salad could be so good! <br/><br/>We got a mix of three salads; Mexi slaw, spicy kumara and raw beetroot and carrot! Each amazing in there own way! The Mexi slaw was my favourite so packed with flavour! <br/><br/>With our chicken we opted for it to be topped with salsa verde sauce! The chicken itself was moist and juicy. <br/><br/>Staff where happy to help with telling me the gluten free options!
Stuff&Junk
Wow. Delicious delicious food and friendly staff. Have some great Sawmill beers available as well. Recommend the Korean BBQ pulled chicken sandwich.<br/>

We have been here two times since it opened. Fantastic chicken and salad but the prices, especially for the chicken ($25 for a whole bird) are a bit on the high side. In saying that the taste and quality of the chicken is better than you can get in the supermarket. It makes a change from hamburgers and pizza and is a healthy option to boot.
Petra
Went here on opening day and it was pretty good. Sounds like they weren't well prepared for how popular it would become as they ran out of chicken last week (bit of a disaster since that's the only thing on the menu!) The spot is cool, service was a bit slow but I'm sure this will speed up as they settle in. The seating area was a bit dark and bare but I guess they just wanted to get their doors open and this too should improve over time I imagine. Ordered the gravy roll with fries - definitely too much food, I couldn't finish it. But it was tasty. I would definitely go back.

A great modern fit-out with a team of smiling and helpful staff. From the menu I selected the Gravy Roll to have in. While it was served quickly, hot and fresh. It was not overly exciting and did not seem value for money.<br/><br/>Will try again once they have been open a few more days.
