Delicious juicy and crispy chicken. Our favourite was the C. A. B burger (chicken, avocado and bacon) which was very satisfying. Chips dusted with spicy or smoky seasoning were both very tasty (spicy is actually quite spicy so be warned). Always a fan of chicken with bones so while tenders were good (juicy and crispy) I preferred the wings. We enjoyed ourselves so much we visited twice!
This place is unreal. The best chicken burger I’ve ever had! They have vegetarian and vegan options too and it’s seriously the sexiest chicken you’ll ever have the pleasure of devouring. And it’s huggeee. Get the meltdown with liquid cheese. You won’t regret it
Wānaka is so lucky to have Firebird! Although it was chaotic, we really enjoyed our lunch.
We weren’t too sure how the spice rating worked because we have found that spicy food in New Zealand is never actually spicy, but our pants were both off!! (We ordered 2 hotboxes one “hot” and the other “proper hot”
We were hurting quite a bit so we bought the aioli and peri mayonnaise sauces to help us get through it.
I would definitely go back to try the burgers or another hot box but stick to the safe zone of “medium” heat.
The fried chicken here is awesome! They have different levels of spicyness you can choose for your fried chicken. If you order a box of fried chicken, it comes with fries and coleslaw, you can even remove coleslaw in exchange for more fries! That's a really good option! It needs sometimes to wait for it, but it's worth!
Big burgers full of juicy chicken. The burgers had a little too much sauce for me but I would just ask for less if I went again.
The loaded fries are drenched in gooey liquid cheese and are super yummy!

The food truck is located next to a very pretty little stream so if you want to eat at the truck it’s a nice place for alfresco dining.
Busy place. Nice to sit outside and relax whilst waiting for your order. Quick and convenient touch screen ordering for card payment, at the counter for cash or online ordering all very useful. Cheerful team behind the counter always a pleasure to see. Burger and chips very filling meal for one and very tasty to boot!! Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Wanaka
We tried fried chicken with medium hot and the spicy fries.
Fried chicken is so tasty and juicy, and the quantity of fries is fair. In my humble opinion, it's the best fried chicken I've tried in Wanaka.
If you need ketchup, notice that it costs extra 2 NZD.
Super juicy and crispy chicken, awesome fries, and enormous portions.
Our personal favourite was the firebird burger. It was outstanding. The meltdown burger was really good too but I’d recommend getting a decent spice level on it as there is a lot of cheese that mellows it out. As said above, the portions are really generous so you only need one portion of chips for two people.
The wings were delicious! It was crispy and not oily. The first time we tried, it was during mid day and we ate in the cold. It was so good that we ordered again that same night, and again the following night. We had to leave Wanaka otherwise I am sure we will buy the wings again. We tried the mild, medium spicy and the most spicy one (Stupid Hot). My personal favorite is the medium spicy. Stupid hot was too much for me, but my husband loves it. Try at your own risk! 😆
We went twice for the 2 days we stayed in Wanaka. My kids enjoyed the chicken pieces and hubby's burger was huge. The seasoning of the chips was nice but fries was overcooked, very dry. Our overall food experience is good. You have to choose how spicy you want for everything. I have to say the lady who took order isn't that friendly.
