Review The Featherston - Wellington

Love the Yorkshire and the roast beef! Came here with friends for a quick dinner and catch -up but end up enjoying the time here. The food is yummy, choices of drinks are abundant, staff is friendly and the service is quick! We tried jacket potato, the yorkshire, steak, toasties (the sourdough toast is super good!), and cheese cake for the dessert. I also had pumpkin soup and scones. Love them all. The place is also strategically located with easy spot for parking.

Amazing meal. Steak cooked to perfection, in my case rare 😋 with beautiful sides & a lovely red 🍷 to compliment. Roast veggies in winter would be a great option although the salad was still a winner.

Really nice place! We came for the Women’s World Cup and were so happy to find this pub! They put down a big screen to show the games and put the sound on. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff! The other customers were all really nice as well. Good food. Highly recommend!!

A rear sight down the corporate part of Wellington, a great pub. Enjoy this place a lot and the food is great pub food! From the great Beef cheek pie to the steak to the beef on Yorkshire pudding and gravy to the pound of Cheerios! A real gem of a pub down town, and worthy of a visit!

I had a good time here tonight. The vege roast with large Yorkshire Puddings, gravy and free desert afterwards exceeded my expectations. Was quite tasty and filling (coming from someone who loves big portion sizes). The staff were very friendly, accommodating and informative. I definitely recommend this place! Thank you :D

We had booked in advance, There were 18 of us, all from different parts of NZ , two locals plus two from Australia. Everyone enjoyed thier meal and loved the venue, the staff were friendly and efficient. With such a large group to ALL be hugely satisfied, now that's a winner. Well done Team Featherston

Up from ChCh and found this place for the All Black rugby game. Great food, excellent service, recommend you book for the final before they are sold out.

Beautiful lunch at a reasonable price. Great selection to choose from and a well stock bar. Can watch the sports or the TAB too. Awesome staff

Delicious.. best meal I have had in a long time… steak and chips cooked to perfection. The man in charge was awesome. Friendly and knowledgeable, he was attentive and even bought the young apprentice out so we could show our appreciation about dessert. Great prices and great experience. Perfect score….

Loved it here. Veg perfect. Roast pork a little dry but forgivable... and it was later in the afternoon. Cheese cake a little gelatinous.

Visited here with the family last night Sat 24 August.
We were shown to our table and was given water for our table. Ordering was easy. Food came pretty fast. Good as we were hungry lol.

We chose 2 starters Wings and Skins and Chargrilled zaida sourdough with garlic butter. Delish.
Then 10 mins after our mains came. I had pan fried fish and mash with spinach with tomato oil, which was sooo good and worth the $27. That mash was the best I've eaten.
My husband had some kind of burger which looked really tasty.
And I just managed to eat half my dessert, a chocolate brownie with cream. I asked to take the rest home.
My brother-in-law jokingly said can we have it in a gold box with a ribbon and she said ooo I'll see what I can do. Hahaha she brought out a normal take out carton and wrote GOLD on it. Lol

I really enjoyed my visit, food was absolutely delish, staff were attentive and very friendly, ordering and paying was easy.

The only thing that wasn't perfect was I couldn't find the ladies toilet. There was an arrow pointing to the left, where there was a darkish corridor to the left round a bend and a huge flight of stairs and a disabled toilet, so I just nipped in the disabled toilet. Up the stairs maybe?
But I will definitely be back. It's all about the food and service. Which was perfect.

I’be been there for burger welly event. Burger was good but service is horrible. They had a cheap look on face for us may be because we ordered only one burger and shared between two. Reason for ordering one burger is because we had planned to try other burgers from different places as it was an event and had limited time to taste all the burgers across Wellington. Bad rating is only for service. They were rude for questions we asked and don’t care attitude screwed my experience . Would never go back.

Only had wings, very average no spice or crunch, maybe mains are the focus, were greasy and
tasted off would not recommend.

Focus seems to be on be restaurant diners.
No offense to the team at The Featherston but my experience this evening was severely average.

Now, don't get me wrong, average isn't bad and many would have enjoyed it I'm sure however in a city that prides itself on a foodie culture, I just wanted a bit more pizzazz.

For a Tuesday, it was quite busy but we were able to get a table straight away. Our waitress was nice and ticked all the right service boxes but didn't shine which is always something I look for as it adds to the experience.

The place has a tidy well appointed tavern look (win?) but as I try to think what colour the wallpaper is, I come up short so maybe a bit too taverny and not enough pizzazzy.Yes, those are words.

My only real food option was the Quinoa salad which, on a dreary day, wasn't quite going to hit the mark. The salad was predominantly quinoa (well duh) and cranberries. I have had some amazing quinoa salads and this just needed a bit of flare to it to make it a worthy main.

Highlight for me was the Lake Chalice Riesling. If you're into sweet wines, check this one out if you see it. It was like drinking Nectar and had legs for days.

My friend had a medium rare steak. It was a bit medium for his liking and he should have gone rare he reckons. Didn't help that the tomato sauce container was a bit faulty which caused a wee sauce waterfall at the start of his meal.

Anyway, overall experience was a pass but I may pass on heading there anytime soon. Sorry team!

I liked it! As a Canadian visiting Wellington for the first time I really liked the atmosphere. Very cozy ant quaint. It was a short walk from my hotel. The service was incredible. Food was delish! Smoked chicken wings! Wowsers!! Fish and chips was very good! Beer selection on tap was limited. All in all very positive experience.

Featherstone is good for fried mash. Its proper tasty and I could eat it on its own. What's disappointing is what the mash comes with. I've eaten here 3 or 4 times, sometimes being pleasantly surprised at a beef sausage and other times wondering why they bothered serving creamed corn when it tastes like suggared wallpaper paste. The service is decent though.

Visa Wellington on a Plate Burger......pretty good, well flavoured and tender pork. The Accompanying apple fritter was a nice touch but maybe a little on the bland side as were the fries. Service - excellent!

Great Pub with tasty food!
Second time I've been here separated by a couple of years. It's down the road from the IBIS hotel on Featherston and I remembered it on my walk back to check in to the hotel. Quick change of clothes and I'm in there in 5 mins. A friendly greeting from the bar and we agree on where I'm sitting. 1 min later I have a beer in front of me. A few mins perusal of the excellently simple, but v tasty, menu gets me to order a lamb pie from the also friendly waiter. Cutlery arrives, followed by the pie 10 mins later. It's old school crispy flaky on top of a bowl of steaming hot tasty lamb stew. It goes perfectly with the one of several craft beers this place has on tap. Much shoveling goes on before I run out of flaky top. Then the genius comes in - they serve it with perfectly toasted thick wedges of fresh bread - cut to that perfect angle to mop up the stew from the corners of the bowl. A small touch but genius none the less. Another craft beer and I'm satisfied. The other diners are congenial, happy and obviously satisfied too. Want excellent pub grub served by friendly motivated staff, in a great atmosphere in a great location? Then come here - you won't regret it. ☺ Ross

Was pleasantly surprised by this pub. Very grand upon entry, spacious, and has 20s/Great Gatsby like feel to it. Large main and beverage lists, decently priced by comparison to Wellington CBD-standard. I chose the 250g Rib-eye steak, which was cooked medium-rare, and it was absolutely delicious - very tender, and the garlic butter was a nice touch (see photo). I split a dessert (the $6 Triple Chocolate Cheesecake) with my partner and it was just the right amount because it was so rich. All desserts are $6 which is unheard of, or you can get all 3 for $15 - great for sharing, or if you just want to pig out.

Have recommended to all, will definitely be back again soon!

I found the menu covered all bases except for vegetarians. The chorizo and prawn covered in chicken with black rice was exceptionally bland. Maybe next time I'll come for the drinks rather than the food.

We went to this bar before the ACDC concert the staff were all friendly and very helpful great prices we had a meal and couldn't fault the food or service we had a great time and will be back. Thanks to all the staff for your friendly and welcoming service.

Attractive space with gorgeous wooden floors and retro furnishings that manages to be both roomy & cosy at once. The food is not brilliant but it's OK for pub comfort food, so it's hard not to have a good time here - staff are friendly enough, even offering free bar snacks.

I had some fancy sausage on white bean stew, with a side of fried mashed potato. In context my only gripe with the food is some of the prices - $24 for a pub schnitzel, you really have to be kidding.

What looks like a good deal is the advertised Sunday/Monday night multi-course roast dinner for 2, for $49. I'll be back for this one cold Wgtn night!

The very friendly staff guided me to my table and handed me the menu. As I was in a steak and chips sort of place, it was only fitting that I order from the grill. In this case, I ordered a 500 grams sirloin on the bone. The food arrived quickly and the presentation looked fantastic with the chips being served in a basket. The only drawback was that I had requested my steak to be medium done but unfortunately half of the steak was raw :(

I'm impressed! I really like this place - great atmosphere, the staff went above and beyond to ensure we were happy, the service was fast and friendly, the prices were very reasonable, and most importantly, the food was great. The bar manager even cruised around with a platter of nibbles for people to try - I had a deep fried cauliflower and it was delicious.

People at my table ordered the Venison Burger, special ($18.50), the chickpea & spinach fritters with pomegranate, yoghurt & avocado oil dressing ($11), and the 250g Primestar Rib-Eye Steak with garlic butter, green bean salad & steak fries ($29.50). Even had room for dessert, which was a delicious Warm Chocolate Brownie with mandarin confit & crème fraiche ($7.50).

All in all, a great experience. I will definitely be going back there.

Had lunch here today with a friend and received very friendly and efficient service. The panini I ordered was tasty too and I enjoyed the ambience of the place. I would give a 5 star rating if the food had a bit more wow factor but on the whole very good!

Terrible service, they had an issue with the gas so could only offer us stuff they had in bottles (coke).
The entree I ordered was meant to come with toasted bread however it came with slightly warmish stale bread.
The main my colleague ordered was meant to come with onion rings - didn't get any.
They were a bit lean on the meat in the dishes, could have put some more in.
Oh and they also don't have decaf coffee.
We asked for the bill to come to the table - they forgot, just sums up the night really.

Great service. Friendly helpful staff. Great during the weekend for a relaxed time
Mother Of Three
Very average to say the least. On a second recent trip and a second visit, benefit of the doubt I have now had a second less than good experience with food at this Bar - dont be disappointed. The staff in charge were less than professional on the first round - second time, I did not even bother to complain about the standard of the foods. If they lifted there game it would be great. :-(

Rubbish. Went with kids for a quick bite before the fireworks. Waited 90 minutes and had not been served in spite asking twice where our meals were. Each time was told by waiter he would check and get back to us. He never got back to us, so we paid for drinks and left and got a Subway. Can't comment on the food as we never got any, however I can comment on the service and this does not exist.

A nice place centrally located in the CBD. Been here a few times and for business lunches on all occasions. Food is good and price is just about typical. Their steak menu is extensive and slightly priced higher. I ordered sausages and mash, and wasn't let down. Wasn't a dish that I'd order again but enjoyed my meal. People at my table ordered the fish and chips, steak and fish pie. Fish Pie received top points. Customer service was great. Food was served quick enough and atmosphere was just perfect. Surely a place to return by choice.
