Visited here with the family last night Sat 24 August.
We were shown to our table and was given water for our table. Ordering was easy. Food came pretty fast. Good as we were hungry lol.
We chose 2 starters Wings and Skins and Chargrilled zaida sourdough with garlic butter. Delish.
Then 10 mins after our mains came. I had pan fried fish and mash with spinach with tomato oil, which was sooo good and worth the $27. That mash was the best I've eaten.
My husband had some kind of burger which looked really tasty.
And I just managed to eat half my dessert, a chocolate brownie with cream. I asked to take the rest home.
My brother-in-law jokingly said can we have it in a gold box with a ribbon and she said ooo I'll see what I can do. Hahaha she brought out a normal take out carton and wrote GOLD on it. Lol
I really enjoyed my visit, food was absolutely delish, staff were attentive and very friendly, ordering and paying was easy.
The only thing that wasn't perfect was I couldn't find the ladies toilet. There was an arrow pointing to the left, where there was a darkish corridor to the left round a bend and a huge flight of stairs and a disabled toilet, so I just nipped in the disabled toilet. Up the stairs maybe?
But I will definitely be back. It's all about the food and service. Which was perfect.
I liked it! As a Canadian visiting Wellington for the first time I really liked the atmosphere. Very cozy ant quaint. It was a short walk from my hotel. The service was incredible. Food was delish! Smoked chicken wings! Wowsers!! Fish and chips was very good! Beer selection on tap was limited. All in all very positive experience.
Visa Wellington on a Plate Burger......pretty good, well flavoured and tender pork. The Accompanying apple fritter was a nice touch but maybe a little on the bland side as were the fries. Service - excellent!
Great Pub with tasty food!
Second time I've been here separated by a couple of years. It's down the road from the IBIS hotel on Featherston and I remembered it on my walk back to check in to the hotel. Quick change of clothes and I'm in there in 5 mins. A friendly greeting from the bar and we agree on where I'm sitting. 1 min later I have a beer in front of me. A few mins perusal of the excellently simple, but v tasty, menu gets me to order a lamb pie from the also friendly waiter. Cutlery arrives, followed by the pie 10 mins later. It's old school crispy flaky on top of a bowl of steaming hot tasty lamb stew. It goes perfectly with the one of several craft beers this place has on tap. Much shoveling goes on before I run out of flaky top. Then the genius comes in - they serve it with perfectly toasted thick wedges of fresh bread - cut to that perfect angle to mop up the stew from the corners of the bowl. A small touch but genius none the less. Another craft beer and I'm satisfied. The other diners are congenial, happy and obviously satisfied too. Want excellent pub grub served by friendly motivated staff, in a great atmosphere in a great location? Then come here - you won't regret it. ☺ Ross
Was pleasantly surprised by this pub. Very grand upon entry, spacious, and has 20s/Great Gatsby like feel to it. Large main and beverage lists, decently priced by comparison to Wellington CBD-standard. I chose the 250g Rib-eye steak, which was cooked medium-rare, and it was absolutely delicious - very tender, and the garlic butter was a nice touch (see photo). I split a dessert (the $6 Triple Chocolate Cheesecake) with my partner and it was just the right amount because it was so rich. All desserts are $6 which is unheard of, or you can get all 3 for $15 - great for sharing, or if you just want to pig out.
Have recommended to all, will definitely be back again soon!
We went to this bar before the ACDC concert the staff were all friendly and very helpful great prices we had a meal and couldn't fault the food or service we had a great time and will be back. Thanks to all the staff for your friendly and welcoming service.
Attractive space with gorgeous wooden floors and retro furnishings that manages to be both roomy & cosy at once. The food is not brilliant but it's OK for pub comfort food, so it's hard not to have a good time here - staff are friendly enough, even offering free bar snacks.
I had some fancy sausage on white bean stew, with a side of fried mashed potato. In context my only gripe with the food is some of the prices - $24 for a pub schnitzel, you really have to be kidding.
What looks like a good deal is the advertised Sunday/Monday night multi-course roast dinner for 2, for $49. I'll be back for this one cold Wgtn night!
The very friendly staff guided me to my table and handed me the menu. As I was in a steak and chips sort of place, it was only fitting that I order from the grill. In this case, I ordered a 500 grams sirloin on the bone. The food arrived quickly and the presentation looked fantastic with the chips being served in a basket. The only drawback was that I had requested my steak to be medium done but unfortunately half of the steak was raw :(
I'm impressed! I really like this place - great atmosphere, the staff went above and beyond to ensure we were happy, the service was fast and friendly, the prices were very reasonable, and most importantly, the food was great. The bar manager even cruised around with a platter of nibbles for people to try - I had a deep fried cauliflower and it was delicious.
People at my table ordered the Venison Burger, special ($18.50), the chickpea & spinach fritters with pomegranate, yoghurt & avocado oil dressing ($11), and the 250g Primestar Rib-Eye Steak with garlic butter, green bean salad & steak fries ($29.50). Even had room for dessert, which was a delicious Warm Chocolate Brownie with mandarin confit & crème fraiche ($7.50).
All in all, a great experience. I will definitely be going back there.
Had lunch here today with a friend and received very friendly and efficient service. The panini I ordered was tasty too and I enjoyed the ambience of the place. I would give a 5 star rating if the food had a bit more wow factor but on the whole very good!
Love the Yorkshire and the roast beef!
Came here with friends for a quick dinner and catch -up but end up enjoying the time here. The food is yummy, choices of drinks are abundant, staff is friendly and the service is quick!
We tried jacket potato, the yorkshire, steak, toasties (the sourdough toast is super good!), and cheese cake for the dessert. I also had pumpkin soup and scones. Love them all.
The place is also strategically located with easy spot for parking.
Amazing meal. Steak cooked to perfection, in my case rare 😋 with beautiful sides & a lovely red 🍷 to compliment. Roast veggies in winter would be a great option although the salad was still a winner.

Really nice place! We came for the Women’s World Cup and were so happy to find this pub! They put down a big screen to show the games and put the sound on. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff! The other customers were all really nice as well. Good food. Highly recommend!!
A rear sight down the corporate part of Wellington, a great pub. Enjoy this place a lot and the food is great pub food!
From the great Beef cheek pie to the steak to the beef on Yorkshire pudding and gravy to the pound of Cheerios!
A real gem of a pub down town, and worthy of a visit!
I had a good time here tonight. The vege roast with large Yorkshire Puddings, gravy and free desert afterwards exceeded my expectations. Was quite tasty and filling (coming from someone who loves big portion sizes). The staff were very friendly, accommodating and informative. I definitely recommend this place! Thank you :D
Good quality Sunday roast and huge delicious Yorkshire Pudding!
Loved it here. Great food with a homey touch and plenty of flavour. Perfect steak and mushroom pie. Service was fantastic
