Beautiful South American food, very delicious. Lively music and atmosphere. Waiter was friendly and the young lady we originally spoke with. Think the man at the counter needs to work on understanding humor with customers. Other than that would recommend.
First time to eat here. Sooo goood. We love the churros. We just had a taste from my son's dessert, then decided to order some for takeaway. So crunchy outside but soft on inside.
We've been to El Cupo three times, and each time the staff at El Cupo are friendly and accommodating 😀 The food has been pretty great each time: we had the spicy wings, ceviche, various tortilla chips, kids' quesadillas and the churros (which are enormous)....the ONE exception was the beef torillas which contained virtually no beef 😕But overall I'd go again; well done!
We had a delicious meal at El Cupo Cantina. The food was yummy and so fresh, the serving sizes were generous so we left with full, happy tummies! Our server was also really friendly and gave us some great recommendations to try. We would highly recommend!

Great restaurant. Good food and personal table service. Friendly and informative staff about dishes and drinks. Nice atmosphere. Lively. I’m not from NZ and used to being served at the table and staff being engaged and friendly in what they are doing. I generally found this lacking in NZ at restaurants and cafes. I come from hospitality in Africa managing hi-end luxury bush lodges. This restaurant gave the same experience to me that we give our guests in Africa. Personal, engaged, friendly service that makes it an experience you remember. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Food was amazing and drinks were superb. Best part was our server, who was incredible and attentive. Blown away to hear that he had only been on the job for a month. Well worth a visit if you're looking for a great experience!
We’ve dined here twice recently - with both experiences being fabulous. Attentive and on-to-it waitstaff. Delicious, cold, well balanced cocktails. And hot, tasty food! Thank you! We will continue coming back. So good having this on the coast.
Master Chefs in action. Good food isn't just about the ingredients but also when you know there is really a masterpiece happening in the kitchen. I love steak and I've never tasted a sirloin like this before. Everything I ordered was new to me and loved and will be coming back for more. I was looking for a good meal, and next I'll definitely come and try the coffee.
Still 5 stars. Edit review as business is now a restaurant - and what a great place! You must come try the food. Everything we ordered was amazing. Big meals and also small bites. This place would be great for lunches, diners, or snacks with drinks. Staff were very attentive. Special mention for the kids' menus - no boring fried hotdogs and sad mac n' cheese here. Instead kids also get to experience lovely South American cuisine along with the grown ups. Only thing we didn't try tonight was the coffee but given this was originally a cafe I am confident this is still done well and we will be back to confirm
