An intimate dining experience hosted with warmth and charm. The food is top class restaurant quality with European influence and the service was just right. One thing that really lets many restaurants down is how the food is served. I don't want to eat off a plank, brick or shovel, if I did I would eat straight off the table and save the washing up. I also hate receiving hot food on a cold plate. Suffice to say TopSail made neither of these egregious errors and created a dining experience to remember.
Debbie was most welcoming and attentive. The food was absolutely divine. The flavours were delicious. Portions weren't massive but we all left there full. Charlotte waited our table and was humorous and pleasant. Ian, the chef was excellent. Would recommend this restaurant. We will most certainly go again.

How has it taken me THIS LONG to find this wonderful gem!!! I had asked for recommendations from some girlfriends for a new spot for an anniversary dinner, but couldn't get a reservation. I tried again a few weeks ago, given we had the opportunity to have a babysitter, and scored a 6pm reservation (only one left!)
Earlier than we planned, but was happy we came when we did, as we got to enjoy a beautiful sunset in the harbour.
The FOOD!!! Wow. The presentation, the flavour profiles, the portion sizes were all incredible!! South Island Paua, Venison, scallops...all cooked to perfection! I was absolutely blown away.
My new favorite restaurant in Whangarei. My only disappointment was not finding it sooner! Worth the drive....worth the wait....we will definitely be back!!
In my opinion Top Sail is Whangarei's finest dining. It's intimate, loaded with atmosphere, most of all the food is wonderful and creative.
Debbie who is front of house is welcoming, knowledgeable, professional and a very sweet woman.
Chef Ian is a wonderful chef who makes just incredible dishes. We have never had a bad experience here. They are happy to tailor your meal if you have any dietary issues whenever they can.
They offer a full wine list and cocktails. As well as a delightful dessert menu.
They also have a server who is very sweet and proficient.
Overlooking the harbor, on top of the yatch club makes this a very special place. Whether you're celebrating something special or just want a great meal, you can't beat the ambience. It's great to go there before sunset so you can watch the sun go down whilst enjoying your incredible meal and drinks.
I really can't say enough great things about Top Sail. I highly recommend you try it. You'll find yourself coming back often.
Loved the duck main, had a chocolate mousse for dessert and that was also delicious. Finished off with a delicious café macchiato. (I’d like to note that it feels rare to get a great coffee in a restaurant as I’m a picky old barista) They had no issues accommodating my celiac disease and made anything I wanted gluten-free. We will definitely return soon, even if it is just for another delicious evening coffee and dessert with a water view ☺️
